Technically today's prompt is Glass, but as I've covered that one in a previous piece, I figured it might be a good time to post one of the prompts I was behind on.

This is unexpectedly one of my favorite pieces so far. I hate to admit it (because the "one drawing a day" momentum is awesome) but... the drawings that I let myself work on a little longer do seem to turn out a little more to my liking?

Anyway, I'm basically 15 drawings in (including some I haven't posted yet) and I'm incredibly surprised at myself for getting this far. I'm not making any promises, but I really hope I can keep it up a bit longer!

They didn’t actually break swords (in fact the stress risers from the teeth often caused these to break, which we know from several broken extant pieces) but one of the theories for the name that I’ve heard is that it “broke” the enemy’s attack.

One of my favourite styles of parrying dagger is trident parrying dagger, which has three blades (in some cases spring loaded) for catching the enemy’s weapon.

Matt Easton of Schola Gladiatoria knows far more about fighting with period weapons than I ever will, so it's nice to see him confirming things I wrote on Tumblr long before he did it on YouTube.

Here's one of his most recent videos:

And here's me on the same subject 3 months, 1 year, 8 years and 10 years ago.

In this video he also mentions the impressive-looking "sword breaker" dagger, a repro of which featured in another recent YouTube, and says,

"...in the video with Todd we looked at a specific type of left-hand dagger called or sometimes referred to as a sword breaker probably more correctly described as a sword catcher..."

how have i never used the parrying dagger before. i’ve NEVER been able to parry, i thought people were making shit up about it being easy but now it’s… so doable with this thing. also a good offhand for my babygirl the miséricorde :3
