'The Stand Up Comic’s Instructions' [...] is a noble attempt to tackle racism built around Lenny Henry’s fierce lampooning.
“I still think it’s a brilliant idea,” says Steve. “To get a black comedian to talk about that racist, Northern, working men’s club tradition. We did a Saturday night TV show presented by Lenny on LWT. He came on stage and started singing with us on 'You’re The Best Thing' and Paul hooked up with him later.”
Mick: “That was bizarre, it was a message that kind of worked. He was keen to be involved and it was us having a go at the mainstream. Alternative comedy was just an infant then – Jim Davidson, Bernard Manning they were immensely popular. We’d grown up playing working men’s clubs and it opened us up to the narrowmindedness that bred in some of them.”

Sorry for getting back to you late.
I LOVE David Bowie, and I adore Iman 😍. She is so freaking BEAUTIFUL 😩

Paul Weller from The Jam married Dee C Lee, a gorgeous black woman and they did The Style Council together.
Iggy Pop is married to a Nigerian woman
Robert Plant and Pam Grier
Billy Idol and Vanity
Nikki Sixx and Vanity
Marc Bolan from T.Rex was married to the original singer of "Tainted Love" Gloria Jones

Pete Doherty's ex is black or mixed (I forget)
Donyale Luna and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones
Naomi Campbell and U2 Adam Clayton
Those are the ones I know.

THE BEST WRITTEN SONGS OF ALL-TIME
Because I have zero innate musical ability, the idea that someone can sit down with a musical instrument, and create an original song out of thin air is magic to me. Songwriting is a craft, but it’s inspiration that makes a good song into a great one. There are songwriters who seem able to turn out high quality songs in perpetuity. There are others who write maybe one or two great songs, and are never heard from again. So, I made a list of what I think are the 50 best written songs I’ve ever heard. These are in no particular order. I’ve listed the title followed by the songwriter or songwriters, and in parentheses is the performer I most enjoy hearing do the song – although most of these songs have been recorded countless times by a variety of artists. You can probably find all of these on YouTube or any of the streaming services. Most have lyrics, but some do not. But, it’s hard for me to imagine any of these songs being recorded by anyone with talent, and not retaining the brilliance with which the song was written.
Claire de Lune by Claude Debussy (Eugene Ormandy & The Philadelphia Orchestra)
Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin (Zubin Mehta & The New York Philharmonic, Gary Graffman, piano)

if you could arrange a music festival, where would it be, who would play and what would the theme be?
my backyard. but if not my backyard then idk a field near my backyard. the theme would be “morgan (at this particular moment in time)” and the artists would be an inxs intro at their wembley peak but playing my favorite selections. then we take it down a bit for hunky dory era bowie (there will be more bowie later). into the smiths right before their break up with the conclusion being johnny marr’s evaporation and morrissey transforming into 1992 live in dallas morrissey or maladjusted tour morrissey spending on how I feel that day and we get a recreation of a famous stage storming. this then cuts into a sam’s town era killers preforming sam’s town and hot fuss selections and then what’s that? a selections from desired effect interlude. oh now its suddenly modern brandon flowers and he’s performing pressure machine front to back just for me. and then? the entirety of the killers at glastonbury 2019. including the pet shop boys interlude but this time extended to include other parts of their catalogue of my choosing. end scene. oh wait they’re coming back out. who’s with them? we transition into dustland with springsteen. springsteen slowly de-ages through the years and we go through my favorite points of his catalogue. courtney love comes out and throws a shoe at my head and I thank her. surprise tyler the creator frank ocean reunion. the 1975 interlude (I have to). robbie williams and madonna both walk onto the stage. what happens next? who knows. bowie is back. what’s this? its young americans bowie slowly transition into station to station think white duke bowie. oh and now it’s heroes era bowie with the little brown mullet performing selections from his entire catalogue. enter marc bolan for a few selections and some bowie duetting. and who’s that? lou reed is here to perform my personal selections from his catalogue and duet with bowie on satellite of love. what’s that? oh it’s paul weller. is it jam or style council paul weller? who knows but he’s playing all my favorites. pete doherty acoustic interlude. followed by a the format reunion live at the mayan theatre themed. dog man star suede/ the holy bible manic street preachers section. enter the kinks. 1969-1971 kinks specifically. now we transition to the noel gallagher portion of the evening. (paul weller also pops back out to play on a few) maybe we even get oasis at the heights of its powers. again it depends on how I feel that day. I think I would want the year 2000 oasis on their come down actually. we end everything on don’t look back in anger.

Great Guitarists 100 - Mick Ronson, Joe Perry, Steve Jones, Mick Jones, Paul Weller, and Andy Gill [CROSSBEAT (November 2009)]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mick Ronson What is the sound of glam rock? In a nutshell, it's the sound of Mick Ronson's glossy guitar. From 1970 to 1973, Mick Ronson was David Bowie's right-hand man and the guitarist who defined the sound of the glam rock era. His best-known work from the glam period is Bowie's 1973 album "Aladdin Sane". The sound of glam's golden era can be fully appreciated, including the guitar sighing in "The Prettiest Star". His independent 1974 solo work features songs that show Bowie's influence. He remained in intermittent contact with Bowie and Ian Hunter until his death in 1993. However, I think his best work as a rock guitarist is the 1971 Bowie song "The Man Who Sold the World". Listening to the dynamic performance of 'The Width of a Circle', you realise that he had plenty of potential to become a hard rock guitar hero. -Hirose Tohru
Representative albums "The Man Who Sold The World" (1971, photo) David Bowie "Aladdin Sane" (1973)
Joe Perry Besides Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix, Joe Perry's biggest influence was Peter Green, the guitarist of the early blues-tinged Fleetwood Mac. His cover of "Stop Messin' Round" is a favourite, sung by Joe himself and performed live without fail, and is included in the covers collection "Honkin' on Bobo". He mainly uses a Gibson Les Paul, but also plays chords and solos on a six-string bass as well as a regular guitar, and his weighty sound can be heard on two of Aerosmith's best-known albums of the 1970s, "Rocks" and "Draw the Line". The figure of him singing with Steven Tyler on stage with one microphone is reminiscent of Mick & Keith of the Rolling Stones, and countless artists, such as Slash of Guns N' Roses, admire his cool guitarist image. -Ikuyo Kotani
Representative albums "Rocks" (1976, photo) Aerosmith "Draw the Line" (1977)
Steve Jones Steve Jones is the guitarist of the Sex Pistols, a band synonymous with 70s punk. His most famous work is, of course, his debut album, "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols". At the time of its release, he was playing the guitar behind the bellowing Johnny Rotten, and that's exactly what he did. At the time of its release, the only impression it gave was that of a punk band with a bad-ass vigour, but 30 years later, on the live reunion album "Filthy Lucre Live", the band sounded extremely decent! However, if you look back after the Pistols broke up, they played on many albums, including The Professionals with Paul Cook, Suzy & The Banshees and Bob Dylan. The 30-year gap in the sound of "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols" may be proof of his struggle to find a place in the world before the Pistols, when he liked Iggy Pop, David Bowie and others and stole their equipment, while being torn between the rise and fall of punk and the rock music that followed. -Ikuyo Kotani
Representative albums "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols" (1977, photo) The Sex Pistols "Filthy Lucre Live" (1996)
Mick Jones Mick Jones used to be a big fan of Mott the Hoople, to the extent that he even followed them around. The guitar that made his mark on the world was that jangly, crisp guitar. The Clash's "London Calling" was a milestone in punk, but it also showed many different directions, including reggae and rockabilly. It is a must-hear along with "Combat Rock", which later spawned big hits such as "Rock the Casbah". The band's versatile sound, while also defining punk guitar cool, earned them a spot on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 25 most underrated guitarists in history. Since the Clash, he has been involved in various bands and projects, including Big Audio Dynamite, but in recent years he has been more active as a producer, for example with the Libertines. It is no wonder that he is close friends with the members of Hard-Fi. -Ikuyo Kotani
Representative albums "London Calling" (1979, photo) The Clash "Combat Rock" (1982)
Paul Weller During his time with The Jam, Paul Weller was far more highly regarded as a vocalist and songwriter than as a guitarist. It is well known that after the Style Council, which greatly expanded his musical range, his presence as a guitarist increased alongside this. Originally, his guitar playing was more of a backing for songs, focusing on chord cutting and rhythm riffs, and he was not a technically gifted guitarist by any means. He has actively played guitar solos since going solo, but when listening to his playing, I feel the influence of Neil Young, with whom he has also featured on cover songs. The common denominator is his clumsiness, which becomes a passionate emotion and erupts in his tasteful, bad-guitar playing, and his hot, rough guitar charm is even more powerful in his spontaneous playing live. -Yoshihiro Hoshina
Representative Albums "All Mod Cons" (1978, photo) The Jam "Catch-Flame!" (2006) Paul Weller
Andy Gill Gang of Four from Leeds were one of the first post-punk bands to be enthusiastically re-appraised in the 1990s and 2000s. The band's first impression in the early days was Andy Gill's incisive cutting. His clean, cutting-only playing on tracks such as 'Damaged Goods' inspired later alternative acts. It is also symbolic that in later years Gill produced work for the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Jesus Lizard. Although the general reputation of the band is concentrated on their first two albums, their later works, which replaced the band members and had a more funk-tinged sound, were also revisited in the 2000s. Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Rakes, who participated in the 2005 revival album "Return The Gift", were the first of the bands to inherit Gill's chappiness and dry funk feel. Gill's shadow can be clearly seen in the arrangements of Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party. -Masatoshi Arano

Pictured: Les Paul (left) and Dick Dale (right)
Top 10 guitarists by genre: Instrumentalists The country-tinged (1/ Les Paul) is an exception to the rule, and the influence of the guitar he developed, as well as his playing style, is enormous. The founder of garage (2/ Link Wray), known for "Rumble" (also covered by Guitar Wolf), inspired Pete Townshend and many other guitarists. The Shadows' bespectacled man (3/ Hank Marvin), who used tremolo arms extensively to produce a clear sound, was Britain's first guitar hero and was admired by Brian May and Ritchie Blackmore. (4/ Allan Holdsworth) and (5/ John McLaughlin), with their superb technique and wealth of musical information, have moved freely between jazz/fusion and rock, influencing everyone from Eddie Van Halen to Vernon Reid and Mike Stern. (6/ Duane Eddy), who helped make the guitar the mainstay of rock 'n' roll in the 1950s, has earned the respect of too many guitarists, including George Harrison. Telecaster user (7/ Steve Cropper), who supported Stax Records as the guitarist of Booker T. & the M.G.'s, also deserves a lot of credit. Kraut-rock stalwart Ash Ra Tempel's (8/ Manuel Göttsching) has continued his experimental guitar adventures as he released 'Inventions For Electric Guitar'. John Frusciante has been playing delicate guitar sounds sprinkled with various effects since the heyday of punk/New Wave, and (9/ Vini Reilly) has been highly acclaimed by John Frusciante. (10/ Dick Dale), familiar to many for "Mirselou", established the surf guitar with a Middle Eastern melody, and impressed even the young Jimi Hendrix. -Shiho Yamashita

I'm sure you hear this every day, but... O. M. G! Your art is divine! The details amaze me and every time I look at it, I find something new. Right now I'm obsessed with your Sherlock series (even if part of it is sad 😢). Your elderly Sherlock is perfect!
I particularly love your John. There's a lot of artists that draw/paint characters from Sherlock, and many of them are wonderful, but looking at your John Watson made me feel like I was actually going to see him stand up and say something! I think Martin Freeman is so gorgeous, and you captured his distinctive look when he is playing John really well. Like I wouldn't even have to see anything but his face and know that it was John vs. Lester or Phil. Thank you!
I'm also quite sure that you are busy with all of your other work (I also love the Black Panther art I've seen), but I was wondering if you are planning any more Sherlock art in the future? Do you ever draw anything based on or inspired by any fanfic? I could absolutely see your work being part of or as an addition to some of the excellent writing out there. (maybe that's just my wishful thinking hahaha 😉😂).
Anyway, sorry for rambling on, I just can't get over how beautiful the Sherlock series is. I'm going to stalk the rest of your work now!
PS the Soldier Boy piece is fantastic as well! Have you considered other Boys characters? I think you could do stunning work with Butcher, Hughie, Maeve and Stormfront, just to name a few of my favorite characters 😉❤️
Hi anon!
Thank you so much for such a detailed ask and for enjoying my art in general and my Sherlock art in particular! It's very kind of you. ❤
Right now I'm obsessed with your Sherlock series (even if part of it is sad 😢). Your elderly Sherlock is perfect!
(In reference to THIS POST) Thank you so much! I'm quite sadistic, honestly. First Sherlock artworks since 2015 and what do I do ? I kill this poor John and Sherlock ends up on his own. Don't ask me why I had this terrible idea! 🙃
I particularly love your John.
Do you know that he's not that easy to draw ? Bizarrely, Sherlock is easier (except his chin).
I think Martin Freeman is so gorgeous
He is. I'm French and I don't know how to explain it better than he's the cute British guy next door, the one with whom you dream to go to a Paul Weller concert with (that's how I perceive him, don't ask 😅). I'm hoping for a return of the bangs one day 😞
I'm also quite sure that you are busy with all of your other work (I also love the Black Panther art I've seen), but I was wondering if you are planning any more Sherlock art in the future?
YES! But this time, I'm not killing this poor John. First, I have two portraits to post, one of Sherlock and one of John (you can view a preview HERE). Then, when I have the time I'll work on a follow up to this series and this time it will be "John Watson's Camera Roll" (so John's POV) but I won't do it immediately because I've just finished working on a new Avengers series and I'm a bit tired. 😅
Do you ever draw anything based on or inspired by any fanfic?
Sherlock fics no, I've never collaborated with an author but I did tons of collabs for Supernatural and even Marvel fan fictions. I gathered a good part of my works in a PDF HERE.
PS the Soldier Boy piece is fantastic as well! Have you considered other Boys characters?
I'm going to be honest. I love The Boys but so far I don't have enough time or interest to draw anything inspired by it. I prefer focusing on Sherlock and The Avengers.
Thanks again for your lovely ask and have a great day!

He didn't just say what I think he did, did he? Never-ending spiral or Miles and Alex keep singing about each other...
The reason why I started looking into it was this line: "So I put on my suit, polished my best shoes " Constantly, Miles Kane (Change the Show) Sounds familiar? Yeah, it is, isn't it? "Wardrobe's lint-rollin' your velveteen suit And smudgin' dubbin' on your dancin' shoes" Mr Schwartz, Arctic Monkeys
So i thought, okay... Let's listen to some more of this Constantly song... "Driver, stop, turn this cab around 'Cause I hear the sound Of Bandini's call " Constantly, Miles Kane (Change the Show)
So pull over, I know the place Don't you know an apparition is a cheap date? What exactly is it you've been drinking these days? Jukebox in the corner Long hot summer Star Treatment, Arctic Monkeys So you will be like: okay... The first 2 lines are somewhat similar, but who is Bandini and what has it got to do with Long hot summer? We all knew that Long hot summer is Paul Weller's (The Style Council) reference and that The Last Shadow Puppets were into it during the EYHCTE recording. Check this interview here [5:14 min]
But what has Bandini got to do with any of it? In 2019 Bandini released his debut album “Barflies” produced by Camelle Hinds who worked with [coughing in gay] Style Council, Paul Weller)... This Bandini is great too btw.... Check it out...
