A swimming lesson
It was another typical day at school, and as usual, I found myself in the crosshairs of Mr. Coachman's disdain. My name is Tristan, and I am what one might call an "unsporty" student. Thin, nerdy, and full of useless facts, I was the kid who always got picked last in gym class. Mr Coachman, a former athlete turned sport and philosophy teacher, had no patience for my know-it-all attitude. He believed that my incessant need to correct everyone was hindering the class and, quite frankly, his sanity. One day, Mr. Coachman approached me after yet another unnecessary correction during PE. He offered me a chance to improve my abysmal grades in sports by taking extra swimming lessons with him. Reluctantly, I agreed, desperate to boost my overall GPA. At our first swimming session, Mr. Coachman handed me a peculiar-looking swimming cap. He claimed it would allow me to hear and see his instructions directly in my head. I thought he was out of his mind, but upon putting on the cap, I realized it actually worked. It was a surreal experience, feeling Mr. Coachman's voice and visual cues echoing in my mind as I swam. The instructions were crystal clear, making it easier to perfect my stroke and improve my technique in record time. Weeks later, Mr. Coachman, noticing my progress, approached me with a new pair of swim goggles. He said they would help me focus better in the pool. Skeptical yet willing to try anything, I put them on and dove in. As soon as the water enveloped me, I felt a heightened sense of concentration. The outside world disappeared, and all that mattered was the water beneath me. Mr. Coachman's voice became a distant echo, guiding me through each stroke and turn. It was as if the goggles had transformed me into a single-minded swimming machine.
Mr Coachman observed my newfound dedication and satisfaction. I was exhausted from the intense swim training, which left me with no energy to display my usual know-it-all tendencies in class.
Several weeks later, Mr Coachman's next request gave me pause. He presented me with a slim blue Speedo and promised that it would enhance my speed in the water. There was just one catch—I had to shave off all my body hair. He argued that professional swimmers did it all the time for better speed and reduced resistance. I protested vehemently. "Shave off all my body hair? Are you out of your mind?" I exclaimed, my voice filled with disbelief. Mr Coachman, with a grin on his face, replied, "Of course not, Tristan! It's a small sacrifice in pursuit of greatness. Trust me, you'll thank me later." I crossed my arms stubbornly, determined to resist this outrageous demand. "Absolutely not! I'll wear the Speedo, but I draw the line at shaving my body hair. It's like asking a caterpillar to give up its fuzzy coat!" Mr Coachman's smile didn't falter, and he simply said, "Suit yourself, Tristan. But just remember, the pros do it for a reason." His words lingered in the air as an internal struggle waged within me. The temptation to conform and become the ultimate swimmer clashed with my natural inclination to rebel against such absurdity. In the end, though, curiosity won over. I figured, if I could endure the grueling training and wear these magical swimming items, what harm could a little body hair removal do? With a hesitant sigh, I finally agreed to Mr. Coachman's request. Trudging to the bathroom, I grabbed a razor, examining its gleaming blade with trepidation. As I stood before the mirror, thoughts of caterpillars and metamorphosis floated through my mind. I wondered if shaving off my body hair would truly transform me into a swimming powerhouse. With each stroke of the razor, I felt a mix of excitement and unease. Whiskers and hairs fell, leaving behind smooth, hairless skin. Trapped in my thoughts, I couldn't help but wonder what my friends would say or how they would react when they discovered my newfound aquatic obsession and hairless body. Finally, once all the hair was gone, I took a long look at my smooth reflection. It was a strange sight, almost otherworldly. I felt a mix of vulnerability and exhilaration, like a sea creature shedding its scales and emerging anew. Standing tall in my hairless glory, I slipped into the slim blue Speedo. Ready or not, I was about to dive into the next chapter of this bizarre journey, hoping that my shaved body would indeed prove to be a worthwhile sacrifice in the pursuit of greatness. Emerging from the water for the first time in my stylish Speedo, I had transformed. My physique resembled that of a Greek statue, not an ounce of body fat in sight. I was an athletic swimmer, a force to be reckoned with.
With my old clothes no longer fitting, Mr. Coachman outfitted me with a tight beige chino and a light blue shirt.
As I squeezed myself into the outfit, I couldn't help but complain about looking like a preppy dork. However, Mr. Coachman assured me that it was all about how I wore the clothes. Skillfully, he rolled up the sleeves of my shirt, unbuttoned the top buttons, and stood back to appraise his handiwork. "Aren't you a handsome devil?" he remarked with a satisfied grin.
Surprisingly, I found myself thanking him, swallowed by a sense of excitement and self-confidence that I had never experienced before. Something about Mr. Coachman's approval made me feel alive and validated, even if I couldn't pinpoint exactly why I had become so susceptible to his influence. And thus, Mr. Coachman's cunning plan had come to fruition. Those magical swimming accouterments had not only transformed me into a skilled swimmer but also had slowly but surely chipped away at my once-sturdy resistance. When I wore all three items—cap, goggles, and Speedo—I was utterly beholden to his every command, a true embodiment of the "perfect student-athlete" he had envisioned from the onset. Now a member of the swim team, I had gone from a nerdy outcast to a charming and good-looking athlete, the joy of all my teachers. But deep down, I couldn't help but wonder if Mr. Coachman's methods were entirely ethical. Regardless, I was living proof of his success, and the sensation of hearing Mr. Coachman's voice and visualizing his instructions while wearing the cap and goggles had left an indelible mark on my perception of swimming, forever changing the way I experienced the water.

Days 1,830-1,854
-
His knife moved with delicate, practiced precision. Affection coated every turn of his wrist, every indentation of the wood. He'd been working at it all day, but now that it was finally coming together, he could feel unfamiliar excitement coursing through his veins. His heart began to race as the final details materialized. He'd taken the most time on her figure.
His beautiful bride, alive in his hand. Penelope.
He'd put off making her figurine. Although he longed to see her face, he knew that it would take him the longest, that it would be the hardest to get right. There were a dozen attempts that had been thrown away in frustration. A mistake in her jaw, her waist, her dress. Something that tendered it unworthy to stand as a representation of his wife.
But this one was perfect. He knew it would be perfect. It was the 9th attempt, and they'd married on the 9th of the month so many years ago.
He'd deliberated for days on what expression he'd immortalize on her face. Pure joy, dignified resignation, mature assuredness... Nothing felt entirely right. She didn't have Circe’s persuasive smile, or the lighthearted expression that the siren had conjured.
Eventually, he settled for a specific, beloved look of her’s. Captivated wonder. It adorned her face when she learned something of particular importance. When her mind, working like the most wonderful of machines, conjured a solution, a tease, a dream. The mind that he adorned, bringing the corners of her lips up, her eyebrows back. With the most delicate of hands, he'd brought it to life.
He'd expected to feel a great catharsis when he finished her. But now, as he whittled away the final contours of her hair, he felt a heavy lump grow in his throat. She was here with him, now. Laying in his hands, adorned in an elegant chiton. Eternally beautiful, present.
“Oh Penelope,” he whispered. The knife began to tremble in his hand. It was as though he was seeing her for the first time, taking in her face anew after so many hours of work. His lip quivered at the sight. He held her up, let the sunlight take her in. Let its rays highlight the dignity of her nose, the curve of her cheekbones. He twisted his hand, allowed the shadows to exaggerate very precious detail. Alive in the sun, basking in its golden light. For a moment, he swore he saw her blink. “You're so beautiful.”
A true smile captured his lips. Adoration bled through his body like drunkness. He knew it was mad, to feel the way he did, but he couldn't stifle it. He loved her. He sat her in front of himself on a stump, reluctantly pulling his hands away.
“It's been… so long since I've seen your face, my love,” his voice broke, the lump in his throat growing ragged and harsh.
His smile slowly withered as he stared back in her eyes, her beautiful eyes. He was accountable to her, now. He could see her. He could feel all that he had done. There was so much for him to say.
-
Odysseus ran his calloused hand across the side of the wood, searching for any missed crack, any untempered imperfection. His hardened palm grazed a jagged edge where the wood had curled up in protest. He muttered a curse, took the blade from his side, and smoothed it.
He'd been absolutely meticulous with the body of his raft. Any problem with its foundation couldn't be tolerated, lest he join his comrades in the depths of the sea. He took twice as long as he really needed, making sure that everything was ready.
The sail was made from clothing gifted to him from the goddess. Fine cloaks and robes, stripped to their bare form and sewn together mishappenly. It had upset Calypso at first. She'd bitterly dismissed him as ungrateful and cruel, using her gifts so halfhazardly. It had taken him days to fully escape her ire.
Enduring that minor tribulation had been worth it. The cloth caught the wind perfectly, and the plant fiber rope that lined it allowed him to steer the ship with relative ease.
It wasn't the prettiest vessel in the world, but it was sturdy. He had ensured that. Taken every precaution possible to verify the quality of his work. If the gods ever gave him the opportunity, he'd be ready.
He imagined his raft, towing through the waves. Every whisk of the wind carrying him closer to his home. He'd row until his arms grieved with pain, until his last set of oars snapped.
Penelope’s figure was heavy in his pocket. As he rolled back on his heels, he put his hands over it. “It'll sail, I promise you that,” he swore under his breath. “It'll get me back to you.”
A gust of wind cut through the air, wafting his hair through the air. Stronger than usual. He dared to believe that it was a sign. Eventually, the same gusts would take him away.
-
He couldn't tear his eyes away from his wife. The longer he stared, the more guilt concentrated in his stomach. Nausea overtook him slowly. There was so much he had to say, and yet he struggled to articulate a single word. He merely stared, his eyes flickering between her and the ground.
“I wouldn't have ever left if I’d known,” he told her. He closed his eyes, felt the weight of the war slowly wash over him again. “Ten years of fighting. Ten years, Penelope. I'm so… so sorry. If I'd have known, I'd… I'd have broken my own leg, cast myself down the palace stairs. Found some excuse to stay by your side. It would've been better to live as a coward than...”
The bitter sting of regret burned his eyes. He reached forward and caressed her hair, feeling the smooth dark locks.
“I thought I'd come back in honor,” he admitted in a murmur. A laugh left his lips, hot and bitter. “Honor. What a useless thing.” He took his wife in his hands again, showed her the scenery around him. Idyllic trees guarding him like prison bars. “What has honor done for me here?” He asked her. He brought her back to himself, terrified to let go of her for too long.
“I- I still remember the day I left,” he reminisced softly. “You had violets in your hair. Do you recall, my dearest? I thought… in a few years, I'd come back a hero. I thought you'd still have that same smile. I didn't know, gods forgive me, I didn't know…”
“But all I'm doing is making excuses, aren't I?” He clutched onto her, closed his eyes until his face contorted. “You don't deserve that. What I mean to say-” he sat her down once again in front of him on the stump. He stared back into her eyes, letting out a shaking breath.
“I'm so sorry I left, Penelope. I'll spend my life regretting it.”
-
He clutched the bow in his hand, an arrow already knocked. He wasn't exactly sure what he was looking for. Practice with the weapon had been slowly worked into his typical routine. It felt productive, gave him a sense of duty.
He stilled when a burst of motion leapt through the air before him. A bird, red as crimson, flying through the air, away from the treeline and towards the coast. The same species as the one he had killed months before, when the goddess had suggested shooting as their activity together.
Instinctively, he moved his shoulders back, concentrating the end of his arrow on its body. The wind was still today. It wouldn't interfere. A simple, clean shot.
The bird’s song danced through the air as a breath left Odysseus’ lips. Light and airy, perfectly beautiful, like a poem caught on the draft of the wind.
His fingers loosened on the bowstring, but did not release it. He watched the bird fly, swirling around carelessly in the breeze.
He wondered how far it would fly. If the bird, in all of its freedom, could abandon the island. Did it prefer it here? Prefer the idle existence that accompanied the ever prosperous island?
It disappeared beyond the treeline. He lowered his bow.
-
Penelope stared back at him. He could've sworn judgement entered her eyes, accusing and heavy. His stomach twisted with nausea.
“Do you remember the men I left with?” Odysseus asked her, his voice raw. He began to pick at a blister on his hands. They'd popped up like spring flowers since he'd started the raft project. “There was 600 of them, if you recall. They're dead now. Every single one. All of them. All of Ithaca’s men- boys.” His hands curled up into his hair. It was growing out again.
“I saw them all die, Penelope,” he clenched his eyes shut, felt the rock of every breath leaving his chest. “All of them. Most drowned- but I heard them. They blamed me. I don't blame them.”
“I sacrificed dozens of them myself. Dozens, Penelope- I traded my life for their’s, like they were… silver, or fine linen, something to be bartered with. I saw them struck dead with lightning. I'm the only survivor.”
“But they haven't died, not fully. They're still alive, here-” he tapped the side of his head with his fingers. “-They don't let me rest. Gods, what have I done?”
-
He'd gone through so many knives in the past few weeks. The rock on Ogygia was either too soft for them to last more than a day’s work, or too difficult to form into an adequate tool. Odysseus had settled for spending an unworldly amount of time making more, praying that this one lasted longer than the previous ten.
Calypso was with him, sitting nearby. A gentle melody left her lips, spun through the air. He hardly noticed, focused intently on the tool before him. He clipped at it, trying to maintain a balance between durability and sharpness.
“You're being rather quiet, aren't you?” came the familiar voice, her song now abandoned.
“I’m just trying to finish this,” he murmured, holding up the blade and peering at it. Too dense, still. It wouldn't dent the hardwood.
“You're the most hardworking person I've ever met. Although, I suppose I don't have much to compare you to,” she toyed. A gentle laugh left her lips.
He felt her eyes as he continued on, striking against the rock. He didn't give her comment more weight than it necessitated. Abandoning himself to mindless work was his favorite pastime. He basked in the methodical click, click, click of the stone.
“...Do you know what I've made this for?” the nymph asked, not letting silence take hold for more than a few seconds.
He furrowed his eyebrows. “...What?” He asked, running his thumb down the blade, testing it. Terribly dull.
“You aren't looking,” she complained, her voice rising in octave.
His eyes flickered up. In her hands was a collection of vines. In the dusk, it was hard to make out the details of the shape. “What is it?” He asked, narrowing his eyes at it.
“It's a gift for you,” she replied pleasantly, her voice now significantly lighter. She stood up and approached him, holding it out. “It's a crown. You're a bit like a king here, I thought. A king needs a crown.”
He took it in his hands. A woven crown, perfectly circular. It was embroidered with strands of gold, perfectly beautiful in its simplicity. “Thank you,” he returned, his voice quiet. He sat it down beside him, took the knife in his hand again.
“You don't sound very grateful,” Calypso toyed in response. He cast a quick glance up at her. She was smiling, but it didn't reach her eyes.
“I am. It's very pretty, Calypso,” he elaborated swiftly. He pulled a small smile onto his face. “I like the gold.”
“You should wear it,” she encouraged, gesturing towards it again. “It ought to fit you perfectly.”
It would only get in his way. Even still, he took it in his hands and sat it on his head. He looked up at her, hoping to see a satisfied look on her face.
He was successful in his attempt. “You look beautiful,” she praised warmly. She stepped closer to him once more, took his cheek in her hand. She brushed back a piece of hair that had fallen into his face. The goddess adjusted the accessory dutifully, interlacing strands of his hair in it.
“My king,” she whispered. She leaned down and pressed a kiss to the center of his forehead. “You're the most lovely creature in the world.”
-
Odysseus heaved a breath as he watched Penelope. He was putting off what he truly needed to say to her. What his wife needed to know. The secret that had consumed him over the past four years.
“But that- you'd understand all of that. I think you would. You'd say… that they knew dying was a possibility when they left. But that's not… that’s not what I need to apologize to you for. There's… there's something else, and I don't know how to say it.”
He felt the familiar contraction of his lungs, the staggering of his breath that always accompanied the familiar feeling of panic. His vision began to blur, her wooden likeness getting harder to discern.
“I've… I've betrayed our marriage, Penelope. I've… I've lain with another woman.”
Hot, grief stricken guilt burned his eyes. He could feel the tears coursing down his cheeks, he could taste them. He could feel the venomous eyes of judgement piercing him.
“I didn't want to,” he whispered, every word painful to utter. His throat burned. “I tried to reject her, wife- I swear it on my life, I tried. I fought, Penelope, I fought,” He had given up fighting years before. How could he look at her now? How could he explain himself? He had become a coward, a man demeaned by his own incompetence. He couldn't even control his own body. He had stopped trying to. He choked a bitter, relentless sob. “She's a goddess, how could I have stopped her?” he asked, waited for her reply.
She didn't give him one. She merely stood, silent. He knew he was a fool to want something out of the piece of wood. He knew that all of this was madness, and yet he couldn't force back the emotion rocking in his body.
“Forgive me,” he begged in a whisper. He shifted onto his knees, pleading with the figurine. He chest heaved, wracked by the anguish that consumed him. “Please, Penelope, forgive me. I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you- once I'm back, once I'm back…”
-
It floated. The raft he'd poured weeks of labor into stood tall on the gentle tides surrounding Ogygia. Something close to a semblance of pride enveloped his tired bones.
He stood at the helm, feeling every coursing wave rock the ship back and forth. It wasn't much. A shoddy attempt at a vessel, limited by the resources of the island. And yet, it floated. Today, it was enough that it merely floated.
“I know, this isn't my best work,” he murmured, a trace of a smile capturing his lips. “I promise I haven't gotten lazy, my love. Even still- I have a job for you.”
With steady hands, he slipped the figurine out of the bag tied at his waist. He lifted her up, above his head, let the sun kiss her.
“You've got to help steer, okay? Lead me home, darling wife. Guide me back to you,” He grasped the twine in his hand and wrapped it around her, tying it firmly around her waist. He looped it around the mast, letting her take in the view of the sea. Three knots. His wife sat, high on her throne, facing the endless sea before them both.

Dragon's Treasure Ch4 So... It's A Date?
You could still remembered when you woke up and how bizarre and scary the whole situation was.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Went the sounds of the machine's living motherboard as it monitored the heartbeats of the living girl lying on the bed. The person groaning and shifting in her sleep. Her head slowly moving left and then right. Before slowly waking up. Your f/c eyes shifted from under your eyelids. What-....What happened? Everything was so, so dark. And your body felt so, so light. Like that feeling when you were just waking up every morning back and home. Groggy and almost impossible to wake up once you fell asleep....Is that what happened now? Were you fast asleep? Was this where you would finally wake up and be back home? Where your mother would yell at you to get up and scold you for your messy room and for being late again and how she raised you better than this and so on. Then what was that beeping noise? Your alarm clock? But you didn't remember it making a noise like that? Ever so slowly, your eyes opened and you woke up. The first thing you expected to see was the ceiling of your bedroom but that's not what greeted your poor eyes. Bright colors danced across your vision. So lovely and bright it was almost beautiful in a grim way. Smelled so clean too. One might've thought they'd died and went straight to heaven. Although ...you knew better than that, because heaven wouldn't give her such a strange sight. A hospital. What the-....What kind of crazy dream was this? You tried sitting up but stopped when the WORST headache you had ever felt before in your life sent a spike of pain through your body. You hissed immediately letting your hand shakily reach up and grab onto your sore head where you felt a goose egg. You...Must've hit your head or something. The pain in your body made flashes of pained white flash across yout face as if to match the white walls of the hospitals walls and ceiling, and everything else. White everywhere. And it smelt like too much cleaning supplies and lemon. That didn't compare to the sounds. The sounds of hospital staff running around outside the room, and the heart monitor keeping track of your heart rate to your left. It took you quite a while to fully wake and let your scrambled brain figure out where you were just staring around the place in total confusion, but you eventually did.
The memories SHOT back through you like lightning and you instantly froze. THE ETERNATUS BATTLE!! You would've sat it if your sore head let you. LEON!! HOP AND GLORIA!! AND VICTOR!! WHERE WERE THEY!? ...In fact..WHERE WERE YOU!? By the looks of it you can been taken to a hospital. Does that mean Leon and the others were taken here too?! The last thing you remembered was...was....Something hard hitting you. You hand tenderly rubbed at your head again. Well at least this explained why you were in the hospital, and you still hadn't gone home. But where was everyone else? Were they in the hospital too? Or were they back at home? You had no idea. You just hoped they were alright- CLICK! You jumped, hissing in pain a bit, and turned to the door as it opened, and your eyes widened as a middle aged blue haired man was in the doorway. He wore the typical doctor attire of a long white coat, glasses, and a stethoscope around his neck with a clipboard in his hands. He paused see you staring back at him from the bed but soon smiled.
"Ah! You're finally awake I see," he greeted before closing the door behind him and approaching the bed. "That's good to know! You were out for almost a week."
"A WEEK!?," you asked shocked.
"No. I said almost a week," he corrected you and hummed. "Miss.." He looked back down to the clipboard he held to read the name back on it. "Y/n L/n. Cause of unconsciousness was a heavy object slamming into you at a great force and speed, and yet no concussions or trauma. Other than some soreness or pain your body may experience, I don't see anything concerning except for perhaps how long you were out cold. You're very lucky considering, Ma'am."
"LEON!!" You shouted and tried to sit up but had to stop because your head shot out another pang of pain when you moved all of a sudden.
"Careful there. You still need to take it easy until we'll sure there's nothing's wrong."
"LEON!!", you interrupted him holding your head and opening one eye up at him, "I-..I was with some people b-before I got hit. Are they ok?"
"Oh. You must mean the Champion then," he said calmly going back to his clipboard, "He's still here, and he's doing fine. Just some bruises and scrapes. Nothing really too serious considering what he went through....." He glanced up over his glasses at you with narrowed eyes. "You both are very, very lucky to have gotten out unharmed."
"T-There was some others! Two kids! W-Where are they-"
"I can assure you they're all doing ok. But for now, I need to check up on a few things concerning you're physical health." And he took off his stethoscope.
You sat there and just let the doctor run through his tests. Listing to your heartbeats, testing your breathing, opening your mouth and saying 'Ah', shining that light in your eyes, having you follow his finger with just your eyes, checking your blood pressure, and some other basic things you've experienced before at doctor appointments. He seemed to be pleased with the results of it all and kept writing down notes on his clipboard.
"Are you experiencing any aches or pains anywhere? Or are you feeling strange in anyway?"
"My head hurts. A lot. But that's about it."
He nodded. "Then I shall send a nurse up with some prescribed painkillers. Everything seems to be checking out, but I want to keep you here for a few more days just to make sure. You can never be too careful."
Made sense, you were kinda still in shock over the whole situation. But there was still one thing that you had on your mind. You hand snagged onto the doctor's coat when he turned to leave causing him to look up at you. "Hey. You said Leon was here right? Well can you tell deliver a message for me? Tell him I'm alright. He's a friend of mine."
The doctor paused for a moment looking at you but he nodded and pulled away from you, letting the coat slip from your grip and your hand was still out in mid air as he left, and the door clicked behind him as he did. After a moment of just sitting there and staring at the door your hand slowly lowered back onto the bed and you laid back into that soft pillow. F/c eyes staring up at the too white ceiling like a giant white sheet over you. According to the doctor, Leon was ok which was good but what about everyone else? Were Hop and Gloria hurt at all? Was Victor alright? You hoped he listened to you and waited outside the city. Where was Silver then? You weren't worried about Victor and Silver too much. Victor had a good head on his shoulders and Silver could battle decently from what you've seen. They'd be alright. And you knew Leon was alright thanks to the doctor. But those two kids were the closest ones to Eternatus, they might've gotten hurt or something before Gloria managed to catch it like in game. But you were still worried they might've gotten hurt or worse. But no word of them showed up. You didn't know what time you woke up but it must've been around noon because a nurse soon showed up with lunch and those prescribed painkillers the doctor mentioned before. Thank goodness. You didn't stand this headache any longer. You tried asking the nurse about Leon or the others but she honestly didn't know anything and just made sure you took your medicine before leaving. Which didn't quell your worries but at least you got some food for your empty stomach. Compared to the other one time you were in the hospital for a broken leg, the food you were given wasn't that bad. It still had the kinda bland cardboard taste overly healthy foods in hospitals had, but you'd happily take it over the amount of trail mix and camping foods you were usual forced to eat on the road. After eating you again just laid there for...for...well who knows how long before noticing a TV and a TV remote just a little bit aways from you. Maybe some tv would help? HAHA!.....NOPE!! Every channel you flipped to had some kind of panicked news you would eventually change the channel away from.
"The Champion Cup interrupted by the giant red light luminating the sky-" Flip channel. "Chairman Rose has turned himself in confirming authorities' stories that he was behind the region wide attack-" Flip channel. "Investigations under way as Hammerlocke Stadium-" Flip channel. "The Unbeatable Champion hospitalized after-" Flip channel.....And you finally paused leaning back in your bed as a field of wild mudsdale was shown grazing in a field and someone hiding behind a bush with a cameraman spoke. "We've been following the wild herd for two days since the annual migration from the winter to the warmer fields near the oceanside. If you look over there the lead male of the heard dubbed Mountain has been stationed on the hill above the rest to observe the herd and keep on lookout for any possible outside dangers-"
You sat back and decided to watch the documentary about mudsdales and their annual migrations. Wasn't the worst thing to focus on and you could use something to clear your head. Plus, you liked learning about pokemon. Heh. If Hop was here he'd probably point out everything he knew about Mudsdales and what these people filming them were getting wrong about them....You shook your head and focused back on the mudsdales. You had to calm down. It won't help your headache unless you calmed your nerves and let your head rest for a moment. You weren't sure how long you laid there but it must've been for a good while because a nurse came back a while after to collect your lunch tray and delivered what you assumed was dinner as the sun set. Again you tried to ask about the others but the nurses either didn't know or didn't answer. Giving you your dinner as the dark approached. You ate dinner and fell asleep to the sounds of the nature documentary speaking bout mudsdales' eating habits. The next day you woke up to the TV still on, something about pokemon moves playing on TV, and the same things happened. This time a nurse and doctor came in with the nurse holding another tray of what must've been your breakfast and switched out the food trays as the doctor again through a typical check up and he seemed really happy not to find anything wrong with you thank goodness for that but that wasn't the first concern on your mind. You tried asking about your friends again but the doctor assured you the same things. Leon was fine and he didn't know of any child patients in the hospital, and of course the nurse didn't know anything. It frustrated you but on the bright side your headache was gone! So you could think clearly now at least. You just ended up watching more wild pokemon documentaries, this channel was called Pokemon Planet for a reason you guessed, and eating breakfast until around noon came and then you'd fall back asleep. But then things were starting to get better. Leon and Piers had come to visit you while you were in the hospital which was a relief although you couldn't leave or see anyone else until the doctors gave the go ahead. You missed your friends and Silver and staying in the hospital was just getting too repetitive and shut in and predictable. Don't get you wrong. You were glad no one was hurt and that you were alright and you were glad that Eternatus was destroyed and that things were starting to go back to normal now....Well. Almost. There was still that ID card that was so confusing to you. Where did it come from? How could you even have an identity in this world? So many questions and still so few answers. You were relieved about one thing. You were glad to still be here even it was in the hospital for the moment.
So imagine your surprise when one day, two days before Raihan and Leon's big rematch for the Champion title, when you heard a knock at your door making your head perk up from the Weavile documentary on TV and towards said door. You were expecting Leon, Piers, or maybe one of the doctors coming to see if you were alright so you thought nothing of it when you went ahead and spoke up from sitting on the bed.
"Come in."
So imagine your surprise when the door opened and it wasn't Leon or Piers who decided to visit you again. And it wasn't anyone from the hospital staff either. The doorknob turned. The door opened wide. And a person with dark blue eyes and an orange bandanna walked right in. And you paused staring in confusion as none other than Raihan stepped through the door. The man also froze seeing you in the doorway hand still on the doorknob as silence passed between the two of you. You stared at him blinking...before finally speaking.
"Raihan? What are you doing here?"
Your voice seemed to snap him outta his daze because he shook his head and forced a smile at you. "Hey! I-If it isn't Ms. Sassy herself!" Did he just stutter- "How are you?" He quickly stepped in and closed the door behind him before forcing his hands back into his pockets. "I was just in the neighborhood so I thought I'd stop by and see how the sass master herself was doing this evening?"
"....It's noon."
He paused for a moment smile straining before one hand found itself mimicking Leon and rubbing his neck. "Well...Ahaha! Y-You're right. M-My bad. Guess I should've known better-"
"Dude. Relax. I was just joking."
"Huh- OH! R-Right! Haha. F-Funny joke. *ahem* So...How are you feeling? From what I heard you got a really good knock on the noggin."
You smiled at him. "I'm fine thanks. I mean I did have a headache for a bit but it's all gone now." As if to prove your point you reached up and patted your head. "I'm right as rain as they say. But I'm surprised you showed up to see me."
He flinched. "O-Oh...Y-Y'know. I mean I've seen Lee and Piers...And those kids ok. And I guess I just wanted to make sure everyone was alright y-y'know?"
....Your brow rose higher and he felt sweat starting to form on his face the longer you stared at him in suspicion. Before his smile became even more strained as you crossed your arms and stared at him.
"You're lying," you stated bluntly catching him off guard.
His mouth dropped opened a lil bit for a few seconds before another forced laugh came out and he mumbled. "W-Wha- Psh! Nah! W-Why would I be lying about t-that-"
"Well firstly-", you interrupted him holding up another finger with each point you made, "-you're not acting like yourself. You're stuttering, you're the last person who'd want to see me considering the last few times we've met and we're not that close, usually you're acting so overly confident so this is new, and you could've just asked someone if I was ok instead of just coming to see me so there's no real reason for you to come all the way to the hospital." Raihan felt his stomach drop and drop and drop with each point you made. The weird feelings in his guts increasing. "And lastly you look like you've seen a ghost. So obviously something's up. So...what's up?"
Raihan didn't move. He even doubted he even breathed for that matter as you still stared at him. He raised his hands moving them around as his mouth opened and closed silently like a magikarp. Your brow rose more...and he sighed letting his arms flop back down to his sides. You now felt your suspicious look turn confused watching him rub his face.
"Is it really that obvious?"
"Yeah. You're a pretty open book."
"Oh come on. Seriously?" he sighed again. "You're worse than Piers. "
"...I'll take that as a compliment."
"...Heh." His hand removed from his face and he gave a weak smile towards you. "It'd be weird if you didn't." Before he sighed and held up a hand, face going back to that almost tired expression. "Alright. You got me. I did come here for a reason."
"Why?"
"I actually was curious about how you were doing." ..You rose a brow again and he held up both hands. "No. Really. I-I heard you were ok but-" His stomach did summersaults like he never imagined before. He never expected to see you of all people hanging limp in Leon's arms wrapped up in his cape as the hurt champion struggled to take you to safety- A shudder wracked his body making him shake his head and finding the floor suddenly interesting as his eyes stared at it. His hands gripping the insides of his pockets. "...That's not...The only reason I wanted to see you."
"Why? It's Silver isn't it? I bet he's tried to spray you down."
"No! I mean yes! He has but that's not the point." He'd rather not try to explain how many times the drizzlie had tried to hose him down while in his care. "I-...Y-You-...Ahaha. W-Well I just figured while I was here I should-..." You blinked confused at him as he stuttered and his hands moved around as he tried to explain. "B-Back at the gym you were I-...GRRRAAAHHHHH!!!" You flinched in surprise when Raihan growled out like an actual dragon and his hands flew up to grip his signature bandanna in frustration. "WHY MUST THIS BE SO DIFFICULT!? THIS WASN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!!"
"Raihan. What are you talking about-"
"I'M SORRY!! OK!?", a voice with the ferocity and desperation of a dying dragon cried out as the dragon leader threw his hands out and gave you the guiltiest most genuinely emotional look you had scene on Raihan ever since you first met him in person back at Hammerlocke. Raihan leaned right and when he thought he would fall over his body followed and he began to pace back and forth. His mind spinning. Hands gesturing at nothing. Eyes blown wide in almost panic. Chest heaving. Lungs feeling as though he was literally breathing fire. Flashes of what happened that night flashed back and forth with his view of the hospital room he was standing in. "I'm SORRY I was there! I'm SORRY I couldn't stop it! I didn't know...I DIDN'T KNOW!! And how come I didn't know! It's my gym right!? I should know! There should've been some way I should've known and I could've done something! I'm supposed to be top gym leader! It was literally under my feet this en-entire time! And I didn't even suspect anything?...GRAH!!" His palms met his face in a double facepalm. "How could I be so blind!? This never should've happened! No wonder I can't even beat Lee! I couldn't even protect my own terf from-"
"RAIHAN! STOP!!"
Something soft grabbed his hands and YANKED them away from his face and downwards, far enough that the pull also pulled the shocked into silence gym leader forward to lean over none other than you. Unbeknownst to him, during his ramblings you had been staring at him in semi shock during his panicked rambling and noticed him spiraling downwards. At one point you had gotten up and gone over and grabbed his hands to make him stop his rant. Which ultimately left you both now in this predicament with you scowling at him and holding his hands as she leaned over you staring like he literally saw you just evaporate into thin air. Jeez. Even leaning over the guy was taller than you. After a moment of silence you sighed and shook your head before holding his hands up to him, clutching them gently in yours.
"Look...You need to calm down. Alright?," you gently spoke to him holding his hands up higher in yours. "None of this..Any of it, was your fault. Ok?" You gave his hands a firm shake. "None of this was your fault. Yeah. You didn't know but neither did Leon and he's the bloody Champion."..Your eyes looked down to the side real quick. "And I can't believe I completely forgot that part of the game."
And he blinked. "....Wh-What?"
"Uh...Nevermind. The point is no one saw him coming and so no one could've really stopped him let alone you. Things happen sometimes but it's all ok in the end." One hand patted the pair of hands bunched up in yours making his blue eyes glance at where you were holding them for a moment. "Arceus look at you. All worried over nothing." Finally at last you let go of his hands but he still held them up. "And you came all the way here to do what? Apologize to me for something you didn't do? That's insane. There's nothing to apologize for. Not where you're concerned."
"But-"
"Shush." Anything else he would've said died on his tongue when something soft pressed again his lips and that soft thing just so happened to be your fingertips as you gave him a firm look. "Raihan, I don't want your apologies." You slowly removed your hand. "Because there's absolutely nothing for you to apologize for. You didn't do anything wrong and if you did I would've sicked Silver on you long ago so we're pretty even." He took a moment to just stare at his hands before one ever SO slowly reached up to touch his lips...And his face heated from the explosion of red blasting across it. Not that you seemed to notice as you continued speaking. "So don't feel bad about anything. If anything just do what you need to and everything will be ok in the end."
....He finally pulled his hand away, stared at it, before he shook his head and allowed his hands to flop to his sides to look at you. "You ..certainly got a way with words, Sassy."
"Well so do you." You crossed your arms. "I bet you help a whole lot since Leon's in the hospital."
"Oh. So you know about that?"
"He might've mentioned to me you were looking after his little brother and his friends." ..You head turned. "How are they by the way? They aren't..hurt or anything are they?"
"Huh? OH! NO!,'' he confirmed, "No no no. Nothing like that. They're perfectly fine. In fact they're more concerned about Lee or you than themselves..Don't know if that's a bad thing or not."
"HA!" Your loud bark of laughter had him flinch for a moment as you shook your head with a smile and rolled your eyes. "Yeah. That sure sounds like them. Poor guys must be worried sick. ...And you must be exhausted." He blinked when you gave him another look that seemed to be...pity? Pity!? For him!? From YOU!? "I hope juggling everything hasn't been too hard."
"Wha- Oh! *ahem* Well I mean I definitely wouldn't say it's easy because you'd have to be crazy to think it was easy." He finally gave a genuine smile. "They're kids after all. It's never easy. But that's the jist of it all huh?"
"Oh yeah definitely. They're great kids but they can cause some mischief. ...Hey. You said they're visiting Leon right?"
"Um. Yeah actually. Why?"
"Then shouldn't you be watching them?"
A flash of realization came over Raihan's face. "Oh yeah! I left Piers there to keep an eye out for them so I could..I Uh...We-Well y'know- Come here and uh.." He pointed behind him. "I should probably get back to them before they give Piers a hard time. Can't have Leon all worried about his little brother before our big battle."
"Oh yeah. That's right. You guys are battling aren't you?"
"Yeah..Yeah." Another silence fell over the two as he stood there and rubbed his neck. "....Still..I-I'd like to make it up to you....I don't suppose you'd be willing to let me treat you to dinner now?"
You huffed and crossed your arms. "Whoa. Still on about that?"
''Hey. My offer still stands.~..." ....The battle? His face suddenly lit up as an idea struck him and he pointed at you. "Hey! I've got an idea! How about a little deal?"
Your brow rose higher. "A deal? Really?"
"Just..Just hear me out," he said holding up his hands. Well you didn't say anything against it so he gave his proposal. "I still feel bad and whether you like it or not I wanna make it up to you so let's make a little deal. ..If I beat Leon in the first round you let me take you out.~"
You still stared at him, not surprised he'd say something like this, before huffing. "Alright. You're on. But if you don't then you never ever bring up taking me out to dinner again. Deal?"
And for the first time in a while Raihan found himself smiling again. "It's a date.~"

When it comes to the best outdoor dining sets, there’s a whole world beyond the glass-top patio tables and old-school picnic setups of our youth. Not that there’s anything wrong with the classics (we’ll happily hang out under a sunbrella any day), but with all the different styles, material preferences, and space requirements out there, it can be nice to see what else exists in the patio furniture landscape. There’s plenty to consider when choosing a set: how much space you have, how often you’ll be using the furniture, the style of your space, and what materials work best for your climate. Teak, wicker, acacia wood, aluminum, and plastic all have their pros and are generally weather-resistant (which explains their popularity), but they can all benefit from the right kind of care. And once you figure out exactly what you’re going for—whether it be an armchair or a rocking chair, a conversation set or an expandable rectangular table—it’s also worth investing in some quality covers or figuring out where you’ll store the furniture during truly inclement weather. To help make the process a little easier and breezier, we’ve rounded up a few of our all-time favorite patio sets. And once you’ve made your selection, hop on over to our favorite outdoor lights to fully complete the look. Our Top Picks for Outdoor Dining Sets:Article Calliope Wicker Outdoor Dining TableArticle Kempel Outdoor BenchThis six-seater brings 1970s California cool to your patio—pitcher of margaritas not included—with a solid acacia surface set atop airy wicker for a relaxed and welcoming vibe.
