P.S. How we view Pink Diamond’s treatment of Pink Pearl

I know this post is probably gonna get buried under all the fan art and the memes, but I want to make one thing very clear. I’ve been seeing some people trying to say about how what Pink Diamond did to Volleyball was probably a one time thing and was most likely an accident and not repeated abuse, that she didn’t mean to hurt her. That because of what she did to Volleyball, she changed her ways. I definitely believe that because of what she did to Volleyball caused her to change her ways, but you can not write off the literal fucking crack in Volleyball’s face as the result of a one time incident or that it wasn’t abuse. 

That’s why I’m writing another post, because I’ve been seeing people in the tags trying to write this off as a one time thing or that it wasn’t the result of abuse when its been told that that Pink’s tantrums happened a lot more and most likely Volleyball bared witness to this. I know from personal experience, even if the anger or frustration of a person’s tantrum is not aimed at you, that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t affect a person psychologically.  

What makes me believe that this also isn’t a one time thing is when Steven turns pink and does his scream, Volleyball cowers in fear, likes she flinching away as to avoid getting hurt again. I’m willing to bet before Volleyball got hit with the scream that messed up her face, she had plenty of other close calls with them, which is why she reacts the way she did too. Another thing that makes me believe that Volleyball was abused is the fact that when she turns around, saying she was fine after being told that the crack can’t be fixed, her crack worsens, probably as the result of being told that she’s too broken to be fixed, which worsened her psychological state.

She even talks like someone who been in an abusive environment or situation, in the way she says what happened to her eye was a funny story, or how she would basically see every time PD would throw a tantrum and how she would let loose her destructive powers, writing it off as nothing to be concerned about. Even if the abuse wasn’t intentional, it still happened and had a horrible effect. I personally believe that getting hit with PD’s scream was the breaking point for Volleyball, that it was the scream that caused her mental state to snap. So please, don’t try to write this off as a one time thing, when it clearly was something more along the lines of the straw that broke the camel’s back. Thats just my two cents.

If pearlxpearl is going to be canon, I’d be excited to see how it goes! But I’m curious to see if the crewniverse will pull another ame/lapidot on us.

After jailbreak, lapidot was a super popular crackship (just like spinearl was after the movie). Many lapidot shippers weren’t sure lapidot would happen, especially after Peridot joined the crystal gems and started having a lot of romantically coded scenes with amethyst (much like we are seeing with our pearls rn). Both ships grew in popularity, but eventually Peridot and Lapis stayed in the barn and became what we would now call a “canon” ship.

All I’m saying is that Spinearl shippers, don’t lose hope!
