We are now down to the finale three episodes, and this time around Kei Fukuide prepares to launch his final attack! Riku is summoned to Okinawa to duel Kei, however he is unaware why it the location for their battle. Yet, Riku friends who in pursuit of him, slowly piece together this is a trap that he may not return from…
  Summary:
Laiha notices a letter from Riku explaining that he has left to battle Kei Fukuide. Furious at Riku’s decision, Laiha calls everyone to assist in locating where the battle may take place. AIB already has a suspicion that Riku is going to meet Kei at Okinawa, due to various maps found at Arie’s residence. The maps and additional notes indicate Kei needs to be at a specific location in Okinawa to receive some sort of power booth from his home world. Zena decides he will lead a small team, featuring Laiha, to Okinawa to stop Kei. Whereas, Moa will lead AIB with Zero and Reito, as a last line of defense if things go wrong.
Meanwhile in Okinawa, illusions of Kei lead Riku to their battlefield. Yet, each illusion reveals bits of information about Kei’s past; Planet Strum was a planet destroyed in a war, which Kei sees at fault with his own race’s weakness. Zena and Laiha are still in pursit, as Moa and the others slowly begin to pinpoint their desired location, Naka Gusuku castle. Riku finally arrives to Kei’s location and questions Kei’s decisions that lead them to this point in time. However, Kei expresses he was not fooled by Belial, and followed him for the power he sought. This leads the two to transform and conduct what maybe their last battle, as Kei basks in the light of his home world.
For every second Kei baths in the Strum’s light he grows stronger and larger, but Riku manages to counter each attack. Eventually, Riku summons enough power to defeat Kei. Then as Riku and the others attempt to capture Kei, Arie reappears from the dead! However, it is revealed to be Ultraman Belial, himself, possessing Arie’s corpse. Belial reveals he was hiding within Arie the entire time, waiting for his moment to steal Kei’s Strum Organs. Belial then takes his leave, as Kei has a mental breakdown and makes his escape. Laiha then takes the time scold Riku, for leaving without his friends help. Yet, unbeknownst to Riku or the others his father, Ultraman Belial assumes his new demonic form… Ultraman Belial Atrocious!
  My Thoughts:
Episode 23 “Strum’s Light” is a decent episode to kick-off the finale, and a lead in for the battle with Ultraman Belial Atrocious. To start off I like the beginning with Riku’s letter to Laiha explaining his reasoning to go alone, while it may be a stupid decision it is a heroic trope. I personally enjoy moments like these in almost any tokusatsu, because normally one can expect an awesome fight as well as great character development. What the viewer got was not entirely development towards Riku’s progression as a character, but development on Kei’s past. The use of illusions to tell the story of Planet Sturm, and lead Riku right to Kei’s location is wonderfully coordinated; the scenes feel more like a supernatural dream than guided messages.
  Now, as for Riku and Kei’s fight, I found it to be great. However, I would not say that it tops the first two battles with Pedanium Zetton, which means it is my third favorite fight for this Belial Fusion Beast. Yet, the fight still manages to standout! For starters, the two are seemingly even at the beginning with Kei eventually overpowering Riku. There is a cool moment when Kei pushes Riku up against a mountain side, and furiously Riku throws a rock at him; I did not catch the rock throw during my first viewing of the bout, but once I did it added to my overall enjoyment. Then when Riku uses his shield to deflect Kei’s blast to become Magnificent, and tackle him down it was incredible. Magnificent form’s contribution to the fight is maybe my favorite part, since they both did the anime-trope simultaneous punch to one another. In addition, Geed is forced to use the Geed Claw in the form, which I think was a first for the form. Once Kei enlarged himself I found the resolve slightly underwhelming since Riku defeated swiftly.
  Belial’s return is another interesting twist because I did not think he was possessing, or latched himself onto Arie; had the light on Kei’s back not been explained as his organs, I still would have believed it was Belial. The reveal is rather shocking especially since Belial is walking around in a corpse, and makes viewers wonder was he in control of Arie the entire time. In addition, Belial strips Kei of Sturm Organs and absorbs them into himself before taking his leaving. Belial’s departure is a little awkward because he just leaves, without lashing out at his son or the others. However, Kei’s mental breakdown at the betrayal is incredible to behold; I think Kei’s breakdown is one of the more emotional scenes seen within the last few episodes. When that one tear trickles down Kei’s face it does not make the heroes pity him, but the audience too. Yet, due to the preview for the next episode Kei seemingly will overcome this betrayal, and attack Reito’s family.
  Honestly, I think this is wonderful set-up for the final two episodes! I like how it attempts to wrap-up most of Kei’s story before he eventually dies, or somehow redeemed; yet, I highly doubt Kei is truly redeemable though because of the various crimes he committed. The preview for Episode 24 excites me with all the action, but has me wondering where this is all leading to! Will this finally be the end of Belial? Will Kei die a hero, or as a villain? Also, will Moa be stuck in the friendzone?! Find out either in the next episode, Episode 24, or in the finale with Episode 25!

The Father's Choice.
Z: Right at the start this episode gets points for remembering Shining Ultraman Zero exists. I think it last got used in the Ginga S movie? Is Zero escaping by accelerating time to where he's trapped is contracted? It makes sense Juggler is the one who'd be wise to the deception by the robots. Riku wants his father to rest in peace, not be recreated or otherwise. It's interesting he actually calls him father, he's done it before but still. I find it really surprising that operating at human size has a tighter time limit that giant size. I know human size fighting is pretty rare but has that ever seemed to be the case before? Seven fought at human size a lot but he doesn't follow the 3 minute rule anyway. And Skill Gomora is back. And soon switches to Thunder Killer. They're getting their money's worth out if those suits now. And then Pedanium Zetton to make things that much worse. Turns out I had Zero's plan the wrong way round, but time for this epic fight. Having Zero and Z use their similarly coloured/ability having forms is a great touch. In the end Zero and Riku both head off to continue the fight across other worlds, but you can be sure both will be back. Juggler has a name now, but it's not the whole story.
Zero & Z:
Zero-One: As we enter the final month of this series, it's worth noting this is the second Rider series from Takahashi to effectively be cut short by at least a month. Just don't be too surprised if some of this stuff seems rushed as we go to the finale, the show effectively lost at least 4 episodes. Horobi makes a choice against the Ark's will for really the first time, valuing the Humagears enough to oppose Ark. He still intends to destroy humanity though. Ikazuchi, who we already knew had reattained singularity goes to Subaru, and together they destroy the satellite, Aruto is head of Hiden Intelligence, with Humagears back on the market. Naki has gone to the person they are the most like, Fuwa, looking for guidance of their own.
Kiramager: I was wondering why we hadn't seen Drilljean transform yet, turns out it needs a silver Kiramai Stone to do that. Also by being quiet about it this week's Jamenshi was able to gather enough darkness to summon the Jamenju without the Kiramagers knowing. We get the crazy debut of Gigant Driller, and apparently Mabusheena is cursed and doesn't know it, and that's the reason Takamichi has been after everything.

TSUPRO IS A DICK TO PEDANIUM ZETTON
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hmmm. Speed overwhelms Power. Like your strategy there, Zero and Z. Although, TsuPro could have made this more tough for them by letting Pedanium Zetton to teleport and launch several of its attacks from the Geed Series. But.... TsuPro is a dick to Pedanium Zetton and makes him weak.

We have finally reached the midway point for Ultraman Geed! That means the series is almost over, and even then, we still are not sure what it is all leading to. However, with Episode 12, it tries to clear up the mystery of what the series’ endgame might be. In addition, the episode makes our bland protagonist a badass, finally! Furthermore, Minori Terada (Ryubee Sonozaki from Kamen Rider W) makes an awesome guest appearance in this episode…
  Summary:
A flashback of Riku being left at the observatory occurs, as Pedanium Zetton continues it assault. Laiha and Pega question where Ultraman Zero is, but REM explains he left Earth. Meanwhile, Zero has entered the dimension Belial hides in. However, Kei/ Pedanium Zetton is having drawbacks from the Ultra Capsules, and it causes his body to temporarily fail. With Kei recovering Riku takes the time to go search out the person who left him the letter. The person to leave him the letter is Sui Asakura, who sought Riku out because of their history and the revelation that he has a Little Star; this Little Star causes Sui to see anything he wished to see! Now, the reason Sui sought out Riku was because he had to help Riku recover his fighting spirit, and because he is dying.
#gallery-0-13 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-13 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-13 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-13 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Soon Sui explains the history on how they know each other, as Sui was an administrator once, and his duty was assist in naming and finding orphans homes. Originally, Sui and his wife meant to adopt Riku, but were unable to. Midway into the explanation, Kei recovers and continues his attack. Sui then has Riku assist in helping him escape from Kei’s wrath. During their attempt to flee, Sui explains to Riku about Belial’s whereabouts and how Zero is attempting to find him currently; where currently Zero fights to escape a trap set for him. Kei closes in on Sui, and Sui tries to convince Riku to leave him since his time is nearly up. However, Riku refuses to let Sui die whether he can or cannot transform into Ultraman Geed. Yet, this causes the Little Star to materialize into the Father of Ultra Capsule, which Riku then fuses with the Zero Capsule to become Utraman Geed Magnificent!
#gallery-0-14 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-14 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-14 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-14 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Ultraman Geed’s return shocks both Kei and Laiha, as he sets forth to stop Pedanium Zetton. The Magnificent form is very powerful easily overpowering Pedanium Zetton. This resiliency from Riku frustrates Kei, as he attempts to destroy his creation. A war of words breaks out during the battle, where Riku explains what it means to live and why Kei will ultimately fail. Eventually Riku finally defeats Pedanium Zetton, while Zero escapes and closes the entrance to Belial’s dimension. That night, Riku and friends, search the city to recover the missing Ultra Capsules. In addition, Riku chooses to continue to visit Sui and to make every moment with him matter. Whereas, Kei has managed to survive and Belial tells Kei he has earned valuable time to rest…
#gallery-0-15 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-15 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-15 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-15 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
  My Thoughts:
Ultraman Geed episode 12 is impressive and is the only continuation in the series to nearly equal its predecessor. Now, while being almost as great as Episode 11, Episode 12 “My Name” does have a few faults. The first of these faults come in the form of the time-span in which the events within this episode occur; some estimate a majority of the episode’s story took three to four hours with six hours being a stretch. Riku leaving to visit Sui in the middle of Kei’s attack as Pedanium Zetton added to the slightly odd pacing. The excuses to explain even why Riku chose to see Sui were conveniently timed too, since he could not transform and Kei was incapacitated. Then Riku’s meeting with Sui was a little eerie only because the location was still in the city. However, I forgave the location of Sui’s house since he reveals he is dying and knew Riku is an airhead. Since as soon as Riku comes in the house, Riku immediately is mesmerized by the PS4! Yet, the PS4 would be revealed to be a part of Sui’s plan to help Riku regain his composure.
  Now, it was Sui Asakura that made a lot of my issues with the pacing and convenience of events nearly go away. Sui is written shows a man who missed the luxury of have a normal family life, and sought to make closure with that part in his life. Being the host of the Little Star that gave Sui infinite sight, and it allows him to get that resolve. In addition, Sui realizes he had to do something for the “son” he wished he had kept. This alone made Sui an outstanding father figure and once Riku got to know him Riku understands this man is his friend/ family. Also, it helps that Sui Asakura is portrayed by Minori Terada, who has play two interesting dads in previous tokusatsu productions. Furthermore, I found the progression in how Riku makes the realization that Sui is the closest thing to an actual father wonderful; even if Riku never actually called Sui, dad or father. I saw the progression start out as Riku merely seeking answers only to befriend Sui. However, that friendship would strengthen further when Sui selflessly told Riku to leave him behind, and the world need Riku more!
  That moment lead to Riku ultimately beginning to sprout into a dynamic character, as he sought to save Sui. That then resonated with the Little Star/ Ultra Capsule, and it allowed Riku to become Ultraman Geed once more. During the battle with Kei/ Pedanium Zetton, the quotes Riku spouted off were typical for Ultras to say, but coming from him made the quotes stand out. Hearing the quotes made me remember back to episode 6 when Reito explained Riku need to discover the motive as to why he fights. Yet, as for the on-screen confrontation between the two, it was splendid, and used some unique effects. I personally enjoyed the various transitions between Ultraman Geed vs. Pedanium Zetton to the internal conflict of Riku and Kei. Having Riku and Kei squaring off with one another in the actual fight was very spiritual, as well as added to the intensity. However, I thought the battle could have used more alternative shoots like the ones seen in the previous episode, for example, when the two circled about as their attacks clashed.
  Never the less, I really enjoyed Ultraman Geed Episode 12 “My Name.” The episode captures several of the best attributes the Ultra series can offer such as stories about sacrifice, family, and heroics. In addition, the final scene with Ultraman Belial is simply chilling, because of how he deceives Kei; it further the set-up for Belial’s coming betrayal perfectly! Also, I hope this is not the last time we see Sui Asakura in the series, excluding flashbacks; it is not because Sui is portrayed by Minori Terada, but how the character adds to Riku’s better understanding of humanity, and family. Now, the next episode is a clip-show, but it seems that it will be better handled than how Ultraman Orb’s clip-show turned out. That is due to the plot focusing on a weird amnesia storyline with REM sustaining memory loss…
