Tretta is a Pokémon Arcade Game released in Japan, it’s the sequel to Pokemon Battrio. These machines have been around since July 14th, 2012 across arcades in Japan.

The Machida, Tokyo half of it (the town where Satoshi Tajiri was born) is very much... Not that. But it does have an arcade (also a Kit-Kat sandwich)! The Pokémon -related arcade game that is being played is called “Pokemon Tretta”, and it is a “three-on-three Pokémon battles that require special tiles, called Tretta, that depict one of the various Pokémon species in order to play. Tretta incorporates searching and capturing Pokémon in various locations. Pokémon caught in-game are dispensed for players to use in other battles, or to add to their collection.” ...Or at least, that was what “Bulbapedia” says about it. I have to ask, just how did you obtain the character art for Pokémon Battrio, Pokémon Tretta and Pokémon Ga-Ole? (Has this question been asked before?)

The Ga-Olé artwork is from the official website. Most of it is just cropped from various images around the site, such as this one - I sadly don’t have access to the clean art. The same goes for Tretta, but that site has been (mostly) taken down now so anything not on the Internet Archive is likely lost forever...

For Battrio, the main avatar art is from Bulbapedia and other characters are from a scan of Pokémon Fan magazine.

If anyone has tips on where to find higher quality versions of any of these (or would be able to rip the game graphics somehow) please let me know!

Oh, and while we’re on the subject, here’s some related trivia most people might not know: Older versions of the Tretta avatars appear in Ga-Olé as the “Senpai Trainer” trainer class!

Types and Moves

A Pokémon's type is indicated by a symbol on the obverse of the Tretta. Its type determines what move types it will be weak against or resistant to in battle. The types featured in Pokémon Tretta are the same as those found in the core series, and share their individual strengths and weaknesses. The first set did not feature all types, but all as at Generation V were covered by the time of the fifth set. The Fairy type was introduced in the ninth set, shortly after the start of Generation VI. With the exception of the Fairy type, all symbols used in Pokémon Tretta are based on those from Pokémon Battrio.

Each Pokémon can have up to three moves as indicated by the segments on the reverse of the Tretta. Each segment details the name and type of the move, all of which are based on those from the core games. Each Pokémon in the first set only had one move, but sets released thereafter included Pokémon with multiple moves.

My answer: My favourite is 1 Eevee, 2 Murkrow, 3 Grovyle, 4 Buizel, 5 Zoroark, 6 Goodra, 7 Hisuian Decidueye, 8 Dragapult, 9 Slither Wing. Cute also awesome designs!
