Ahahahah YES! PICHU GETS TO SCREAM ABT POKÉMON! ❤️😂
You got it!!!
~
Favorite starter award goes to Oshawott!!! He’s just a little precious lil’ dude and I LUV HIM!!! 🦦 Water types are prolly my favorite of ‘em all, and the whole line is just peak design, man <33 Love them to death!! Samurott’s one of my favs and always will be!! (Close seconds and thirds go to Meganium and Feraligatr!)
Ooooooh Pokémon Dream Team??? Let’s go!!! ❤️ ✨
#1 (ace) - what else but a level 100 Pichu?? xDD I think it’d be a crime if I didn’t have my all-time favorite bean with me!! (Although for logistical reasons he prolly would be a Raichu shshsh)
#2 - Houndoom!!! EXTREMELY precious Pokémon to me shshshsh. Technically he’s the star of my first ever fanfic, too 😂 6th grade Pichu regrets nothing
#3 - Togekissss! Also one of my favorites, and BOY you know I ain’t playing this game without a flyer xD These legs weren’t meant for walking.
#4 ~ Goodra. GOODRA! Big slimy fella who gives big ol’ hugs!! Everyone needs a nice pseudo-legend on their team, and this fella’s been my favorite dragon since time immemorial.
#5 - Lycanroc dusk!!! literally my favorite Pokémon before Pichu 😂 Wolfie powweeeeeeerrr!!!
#6 (last but not least) ~ we got Samurott!! My favorite starter, my favorite starter evolution, and you KNOW we’re gonna need a surfer lmao xD Perfect way to round out the squad!!!
*puts down bullhorn*
Tysm for your interest, my friend! 😂❤️

get to know the mun
What's your phone wallpaper?: Currently this.
Last song listened to: "Run Baby Run" by 2WEI, Ali Christenhusz. Sometimes I need suspenseful music to set the mood while writing and what not.
Currently reading: The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon
Last movie: Uhh... I think Spider Man: Across the Spider-Verse?
Last show: DOTA: Dragon's Blood.
What are you wearing right now?: Blue and purple tie-dye t-shirt and flowy yellow floral pants. They do not match at all, but I'm wearing them as pajamas basically.
How tall are you?: 5 feet tall lmao.
Piercings/Tattoos: My ears were pierced. I say "were" because I haven't worn earrings in a long time, so they might've closed up somewhat.
Glasses/Contacts?: Glasses.
Last thing you ate?: Kielbasa and strawberry lemonade.
Favorite Color: Forest/emerald green.
Current obsession: Well, I said Elden Ring and US politics/current events in my last "About Me" post, both of which are still true. Besides that, I've always been pretty obsessed about my original character, Djahima lmao. They've gone through a shit ton of development over the years. Fun fact: when I was in high school, Djahima was originally named after a Pokemon.
Do you have a crush right now?: Crush deez nuts (no).
Favorite fictional character: There's a few, but if I had to choose one, gun to my head? I'd say Alucard from Hellsing Ultimate; I was obsessed with his character for years. Still kinda am, but it's cooled off. Other favorite characters include Calypso/Tia Dalma from Pirates of the Caribbean (Djahima's inspiration), The Whispering Hillock/Black Beauty and the crones Weavess, Whispess, and Brewess from The Witcher 3, Miguel O'hara (I'm assuming we all know where he's from), Lae'zel from Baldur's Gate 3, Hecate from Hades 2 even though I barely know anything about her right now but I don't need to because that's peak fuckin character design right there. The pattern here is that I love pathetic, broken men who are a hairsbreadth away from being insane and women who are already deranged and are so sexy about it. Feminism, innit?
Last place you traveled: Like traveled, traveled? Iceland.
tagged by: @hauntsect (thank you!! <3)

twisty pokérot hours here are some of my fav pokémon from each region BECAUSE no one asked :3 /pos
whoopsie a WHOLE BUNCH of rambling under cut !!
kanto:
Tumblr media
wartortle!!! my boy!!! his design slaps SO HARD and is honestly one of the best middle stage starters. everyday i weep for the scrapped og blastoise design that looked a lot more like him :(
johto:
Tumblr media
i honestly cannot pick between typhlosion, scizor and ampharos… typhlosion is one of my favorite starters ever, i don’t really care about how he and the other gen 2 starters are under designed. i love my angry honey badger echidna freak <3
Tumblr media
scizor is just like. peak character design to me. shes like scyther walked into hot topic and came out a girlboss. i love the underrated bug type and bugs in general and scizor really held the candle for the best bug type for a long time (for me atleast)
Tumblr media
ampharos omgggg ampharos… honestly the entire mareep line is so cute to me!! i love how it goes from an unsheared sheep, to half sheared, and then to fully sheared. also ampharos has the “bean bag body type” pokemon design trope that i love, all pokemon with this body type (ex: goodra, dragonite, flygon ) are all so huggable and cute to me!! i NEED an ampharos irl NOW!!! 🤬🤬🤬 /pos
hoenn:
Tumblr media
maybe a basic answer but THE ENTIRE MUDKIP LINE!!! YES I DO LIKE MUDKIPS /ref
yes this includes marshtomp ily marshtomp and most of all SWAMPERT!!
mudkip is one of the cutest starters EVER and choosing one in a gen 3 game is THE CORRECT CHOICE. i chose mudkip and i named her skipp and we quite literally single-handedly obliterated every single trainer battle, gym leader and the elite four + steven stone together. swampert has one of the best typings in the games ( water + ground ) so she only had ONE weakness and was IMMUNE to electricity 😭 poor wattson
she REALLY cemented my love for the entire mudkip line oaosufjfoighhh i love my mudfish salamander axolotl so much!
i will admit it took me like. a few days of playing ruby and looking at fanart to get used to marshtomp’s design but i can say with certainty that i love marshtomp as much as mudkip and swampert <3
sinnoh:
Tumblr media
GLISCOR 👹👹👹
i love bats so much and gliscor is not an exception. one of the best new evolutions design wise, and i just love the cheeky personality it radiates. i caught one in platinum and named it uzi after uzi from murder drones <3
it was the evolution gligar NEEDED and thank lord it got it because gliscor is amazing and i want one irl. also kinda unrelated but i was baffled when i learned that this mf is 6’07’’?? hello???
honourable mentions also go to gastrodon <3 (specifically east sea form)
unova:
Tumblr media
man i feel so bad for the gen 5 games plus it’s pokémon cuz the anime gave it such a bad rep 😭 yeah i agree the anime was kinda eh BUT THE GAMES AND GEN 5 POKÉMON ARE GREAT OK?? i have a lot of favs but im gonna have to go with reuniclus !!
when it comes to my taste in pokémon i don’t really care about their stats or competitive stuff, i mainly judge them based off of their design. so you can imagine when i saw reuniclus plus it’s pre-evolutions i instantly fell in love. he’s??? so silly??? HELLO??? who knew a pokémon based off of my average biology class lecture would make me go HDJDHEJWHWHEHEHEHEEHIEAWWWWW 🥹🥹 so much
kalos:
Tumblr media
gif quality is awful but GOODRA AND ITS PRE-EVOLUTIONS ARE ACTUALLY MY FAVOURITE POKEMON OF ALL TIME !! <3
i was watching the xy anime... i was watching the ash vs clemont battle... i saw ash's goodra do it's silly little splashes while using its rain dance in the gif above... i don't think i've ever " AWWWWW'D " louder in my life???
i cannot put into words HOW MUCH I LOVE GOODRA!! it's FAT it's a DRAGON it's a SLUG it loves HUGS it's TALL it's FRIENDLY and it's ALSO CUTE?? AND A PSEUDO-LEGENDARY??? PEAK POKÉMON!! i just look at goodra fanart daily just to make my heart melt CUZ I LOVE THIS FAT SLIME DRAGON SO MUCHAWGFWJFWAHB
BEST dragon type CUTEST dragon type BEST pseudo-legend BEST POKÉMON EVER I'M RIGHT YOURE WRONG !!! /HJ /LH
alola:
i have two favs... the rowlet line (mainly decidueye) and lurantis!! i'll talk about decidueye first
Tumblr media
pokémon sun was actually the first pokémon game i've ever played!! i really wish i played the earlier games sooner but i was more of a pokémon anime kid growing up... sigh... atleast now i've been playing more games <3
anyways decidueye!! rowlet was actually my first ever starter! i loved the beach ball owl so much! i don't remember much about my first couple of playthroughs of sun (i dont think i ever got to evolve my starter beyond a dartrix) but ever since i got into pokémon again and absorbed so much info into my brain i've concluded that decidueye is actually amazing
i LOVE archers. i LOVE owls. i LOVE characters with hoods/cloaks/capes. i HAD to love decidueye. plus it's typing ( grass / ghost ) is actually so cool?? it's just such a well designed and well thought-out pokémon
Tumblr media
lurantis omg lurantis... they could never make me hate you lurantis...
it's. literally. SO CUTE!! if a pokémon is cute enough to me i am GOING to like it automatically. additionally i love how it's based off of the real life orchid mantis!! irl orchid mantis' are basically pink mantis' that look like flowers, particularly orchids to hide themselves in plain view to ambush their prey. cool, right?
well, with lurantis, it's a pure grass type, not a bug type. the reason that is is because lurantis is actually a flower, particularly an orchid, that looks like a mantis, to fit in with other bug types since grass types are weak to bugs. i really love that!! i also just love lurantis' design in general🥺
galar:
Tumblr media
even though gen 8 is my least favourite generation (i don't hate it, it's just that i love the others more) i do have a fav! while i do like pokémon such as dragapult, corviknight, frosmoth, grapploct, etc, centiskorch is 100% my favourite!! i love bugs in general and a fire centipede is honestly just super cool. it's design is awesome as heck and it's gigantamax form is one of my favourites, even though it just gets super long :3 also the name centiskorch is so cool
hisui:
Tumblr media
surprise surprise my fav hisui mon is hisuian typhlosion!! legends arceus really took one of my fav pokémon and made him stoned and girlypop huh /pop
again. with. the. amazing! fire/ghost! typing! it works SO well with typhlosion somehow. hisuian typhlosion's design didn't change much from johtonian typhlosion's but it still slaps SO HARD. the darker purple works so well with the fire collar pattern it has arounds its neck and i love how they gave him eyeshadow!! just an amazing mon all around <3
paldea:
it's a tie between ceruledge and tatsugiri!! i'll talk about ceruledge first <3
Tumblr media
look at my baby coughing like a smoker <3
i've said this a lot already in regards to the others on this list but one of the biggest reasons i fell in love with ceruledge when i saw it for the first time is because of its design!! ghost/fire is such a cool typing (that skeledirge also has <3) and despite ceruledge and it's counterpart armarouge being more on the humanoid side, unlike other pokémon who are also in the same boat they don't look uncanny to me at all!! ceruledge is just so cool with its colour palette and the BLUE/PURPLE FLAME SWORDS?!!!??? HELLO!?? that it's difficult NOT to like it!! ily ceruledge
Tumblr media
the contrast between tatsugiri and ceruledge is kinda funny
anyways i bloody adore this ONE FOOT TALL sushi fish so much. i love how in its stretchy form its glaring at me like it knows what i have done /hj
Tumblr media
i dont know?? why i?? love him so much??? he's literally just a grumpy sushi fish who changes colours... he's my favourite boyfailure!! he's so cute and tiny!!!
anyways this has been twisty pokérot hours goodnight tristate area <3

Your tags under the pokemon poll are SO TRUEE and it hurts how many people dont understand that
I grew up in the change from pixel art to 3D and have nostalgia for bw, xy AND sm. So i think because of that, I can see the good and bad in all the games but don't feel like any of them 'peaked''. They're all different games, so they are really hard to compare.
On a related note tho, its so sad to see so many fans praise one of my childhood games and not the others. And like, I get it because gen 5 is more similar to what they grew up with.....but every time I say I love xy, sm and even swsh i get told they are terrible and usually imply that I shouldnt like them :/
That only happens online, though......irl all the fans ive met, no matter their ages, just say something like 'i didnt like it, but i'm glad you did!'. Growing up in irl fan spaces and having to move online during corona was AN EXPERIENCE omg
Yeah! It's super interesting how much we are affected by nostaglia.
There's usually a pattern you can notice with this stuff too. There are two lines that go up as time goes on. The one everyone talks about as being great and the newer one people hate on, usually to do with nostalgia of the now older original audience of the game.
My full reply got long so putting it under a read more skfjsh
My first Pokemon game was Colosseum, so gen 2/3 pokemon and gen 3 sound effects are pretty nostalgic to me.
Then I grew up mostly playing Diamond/Platinum/PMD2/Ranger2. I LOVED Team Galactic. I restarted the games so many times just so I could play through the story again with Cyrus and the Galactic Grunt theme. (I have also played through pmd2 many many times). I remember in my early teens seeing people on the internet hating on DPPt a lot and it making me sad. I recall someone saying that the gen 4 Pokemon sucked and I remember thinking "aw I guess they're right, some of these pokemon are really boring or annoying" and then I learned later that the pokemon I was thinking of were all gen 1 pokemon sdfkjsh
Gen 5 was hated when it first came out because it wasn't very fun for new players. I bet it also didn't help that the advertising for B2W2 was pretty poor and also came out after the 3DS did. I didn't even know it was a sequel until years later. That's why they went in the complete opposite direction for gen 6, and added gimmicks!
I have heard multiple people call the designs from gen 5 horrible over the years (And they're all wrong). Those comments are nowhere NEAR as frequent now, but they almost always come from people with nostalgia for the ones they grew up with.
I was 13 when BW first came out. I think I've only beaten it once, MAYBE twice. I'm not entirely sure why, because I was still replaying DPPt a lot. I would guess it's because the game is super linear in terms of gameplay and every playthrough will start exactly the same. You don't really get to make decisions on your team and how you play until later. Kid me loved the beginning of the main pokemon games the most because they were the most fun bits to play usually. So I suppose when you've already played it once, the beginning becomes quite boring.
And to compare. I did not like XY when it first came out. I was 16 and very against change and also my fav types at the time were dark and dragon so fairy type was the worst thing ever. I said previously that I really liked Team Galactic, so Team Flare was just a bootleg version of them to me. BUT I did immediately replay the game when I finished it. The character customisation plus the huge dex gives the game a lot of replayability. Because while I didn't like a lot about the game it was still fun to play, and it was the first time online was really accessible to me. I went back to 2013/2014 on my blog and there's SO much positivity about the game it's amazing! Over time people only remembered the bad parts and started hating it. I bet there'll be an influx of nostalgia for it before long. We can even see it in the hope people have for SV having Kalos DLC.
I need to replay sun/moon or play USUM because in my brain currently it sucks. But I'm very aware that that's because I only played it once, it's been years, and I played it when I started to grow out of Pokemon. So I'm excited to play it again now that I can appreciate it better. (Also the Sun/Moon anime is my fav so I have a lot of love for the characters now)
And finally, I loved SWSH! I didn't finish it the first time I tried to play it. Mostly because I spent HOURS trying to get a shiny hatenna before doing the fire gym skdfjhs. But then I SPED through the game with a bug type only run before Legends came out and I really enjoyed the story! One of those things that's more enjoyable if you're only focused on enjoying the story (and playing the game through with a joltik as the lead and trying to make sure they stay strong enough to beat the game with pfft) Also Leon was the first ever Champion I actually thought was cool and enjoyed seeing while playing the game (as ridiculous as his outfit is)
If I were to logically plot out the best for me based on how nostalgia works and taking into consideration that public opinion ABSOLUTELY influences me. I would have said BW was the best and XY(or SM) was the downfall, even though I had way more fun playing XY than BW as a kid

im always curious at the application of fan favourites in canon games. for example:
1) did they purposely make red the silent type or did they roll with it being a widely popular hcanon and apply the thing in pokemas masters (making it the funniest thing)?
2) was N supposed to be an emotionless doll (generations) turned loving human (pokemas) as part of his journey or did the developers see how widely sweet N is in fanarts/fanfics that they decide to put it as canon?
3) was steven meant to be a popular heart throb by the public in game before the remake came out as well as pokemas or was that a silly jab at the actual fans who genuinely go gaga over him?
4) was touko meant to be a rowdy protagonist because of her outfit or because its a famous hcanon from the fans?
5) the submas twins are very popular so did pokemas give them THE perfect japanese voices the fans hcanons about how they should sound like?
like right now. immortal hiker volo is quite a famous hcanon. i wonder if pokemas will ever make an alt of that. i doubt it but if that ever happens thatll be so funny.
but one things for sure: volo earned his spot as one of the most famous male pokemon characters in a span of a year. thanks to his resemblance to cynthia (who is already extremely famous) + the fact that hes a memorable villain, volo is widely loved fans. hes also designed to be a very handsome/pretty character (yes even in his stupid final boss form hes cute imagine if gamefreak didnt nerf his hairstyle) and even without a canon voice yet, lots of people have imagined him to have this sweet, prince-like voice who can be cunning and piercing. ive seen the ウォロショウ go from 0 to nearly 100+ fanarts in a year. hell, even the volo tag is expanded in like 3 diff social medias.
volos fame reaches its peak that it almost rivalled N when he was first introduced. steven and red are famous, yes, but volo is a fan favourite in many aspects. hes designed in a way that caters to fans who loves whatever spectrum N falls under.
and they gave N an amazing voice in pokemon masters. steven also has a charming voice to match his rocks for brains. red has a great seiyuu for someone who says 'A' as an actual dialogue. even adaman has a great voice. iridas voice matches her so well. ingo has a hilarious scream that will also sound great (and heartbreaking) if we ever get his legends version. emmet sounds adorable in his japanese voice. hell even cynthia has THE voice to match hw everyone hears her. so far pokemon masters do a great job to match the voice with the characters.
so the question is: when is volo coming out to pokemon masters ex and who will voice him?

Ranking The Pokemon Antagonist/Villain Teams
Team Rocket (Kanto) 10/10 - Good starter villains. This ain’t peak Team Rocket, but this was still an alright base for future entries to improve and build upon, so it’s a 10/10.
Team Rocket (Johto) 3/10 - This is an UGLY blot on Rocket’s resume, but in all honesty with Giovanni gone, and some boring as hell admins running the gang, this plot was doomed to fail without someone carrying the team. The only good thing was that their plan was to try and get Giovanni back.
Team Magma 2/10 - Cool designs, especially in the remakes, Courtney was okay, but come on! WE CANNOT SURVIVE WITHOUT WATER, MAXIE!
Team Aqua 7/10 - We can live in a world with water, so Archie was onto something, but the group is held back by the story of Hoenn games. Still better than Magma
Team Galactic 10/10 - The plan was carefully constructed, Cyrus is a good villain, the admins here were better than in other games, the space cadet outfits are bland in a fitting way, and Team Galactic felt less like Pokemon villains and more like Final Fantasy or Xenoseries villains.
Team Plasma (Original) 10/10 - Plasma was the most unique team in the series, especially since they brought up the concept of “pokemon liberation,” gave us N, and had the most devious plan in the series. However this was revealed to be a lie that it’s founder, Ghetsis, used as propaganda to try and convince people to release their pokemon, so he can rule the world utterly, and the plan almost worked! That and the medieval aesthetic is VERY unique.
Neo Team Plasma 9/10 - Plasma may have lost all power, and the aesthetic is vastly different, but they’re still dangerous as hell, and the plan is literally one big revenge scheme (It’s a backup in the manga). Also Colress helps carry the team, along with a more demented Ghetsis.
Team Flare 5/10 - On one hand, Flare was not great in their debut games, but on the other hand, they’re better in other media.
Team Skull 10/10 - Best joke villains the series has ever made.
Aether Foundation 7/10 - Lusamine is fine, but aside from that these guys are just PETA. Also the existence of Faba is cringe.
Team Rainbow Rocket 10/10 - What a nice way of establishing what Giovanni would to with multiversial travel! Also this was a nice way of reintroducing Team Rocket!
Team Yell 8/10 - Team Yell was just a gym leader, his sister, and a bunch of twitter stans. The stans were an annoyance, but they weren’t awful, also Piers and Marnie were great.
Macro Cosmos 1/10 - Magma at least tried, Aqua was just held back, Aether had Lusamine, and Flare is salvageable. The ONLY thing goods about this company were Rose’s boss theme, and the POTENTIAL Rose had.
Team Star 10/10 - Team Star may not have been the actual villains, but they WERE antagonists, and in all honesty it was nice to see Tumblr Users and victims of bullying who fought back be perfectly represented in a video game.
Team Break 3/10 - These little shits are from a mere mobile game, and are annoying as hell, but they aren’t a steaming pile of shit so I needed to be based about their placement.

Year in Review: Games Part 1
This is a series I've been wanting to do for a while. Whenever I finish a piece of media (books, games, movies, comics, maybe art and music in the future) I jot in down in a doc so I can look back on them at the end of the year. I wanted to write my thoughts on them as I finished them, but since you have to start somewhere, I'll be writing simple reviews in retrospect. This is just for fun, but I welcome any feedback.
Pokemon Scarlet
This game released with some controversy. It was an unfinished glitchy mess with graphics still not up to the standards of the Nintendo Switch six years into its lifespan, but tbh this game was fun as hell to complete. I loved most of all the new designs and managed for the first time in my Pokemon career to actually complete the Dex. I usually get worn down on that pretty quick.
The characters were also much more engaging than the previous generation, especially my best boy Arven. The environments were super fun to explore and I got a new favorite little guy (Slither Wings my beloved). Here's hoping the next game has an actual sane development cycle and we get this amount of creativity in a higher degree of quality with better paid developers.
Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations
If you thought I only played games that came out this year, sorry to disappoint. I don't manage to pick up even half of the blockbusters that pop up annually, and go after older games way more often. That being said, I see why AA fans hold this game up so high. I played the first and second Phoenix Wright games last year (which I won't review since that was too long ago now) and this is a nice cap to the original Trilogy.
You get Phoenix's background as a dorky bisexual art student, Mia's first case as a defense attorney, and an honestly heartbreaking quest for revenge through Godot while never stooping to melodrama. (I love his theme it sounds like the Mother 3 Magypsies). Also unlike the first two games, there were zero "filler" cases. Each one was thoroughly engaging and moved the plot forward in a meaningful way. Though, I don't begrudge the earlier cases that fuck around a lot more.
Pokemon White 2
When the OG Black and White came out, I was in the "everything new is lame" stage of adolescence, so when the sequels came out I didn't even bother. Turns out I was the lame one for doing so! In hindsight, Pokemon seemed to reach something of a peak with Gen 5 in terms of graphics and gameplay, and would seek to experiment with new artstyles and gimmicks for the next (looks at watch) 11 years damn.
With the first Black and White, it focused on remodeling classic Pokemon designs and gameplay into something new and modern, and these games add back in most of those classic Mons. The plot is also very action-packed and engaging, and gives a satisfying epilogue for a lot of the characters from the first games. You get to see how the region has changed after 3 years and even get to explore some new parts of Unova, similar to how the Gen 2 games handled Kanto. I hope Gamefreak does something like this again in the future.
Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded
Prepare for a deluge of this series, and not in any conceivable order. Kingdom Hearts took over my heart, mind, and body Xehanort style for the better half of the year. This title is known for a fun variety of gameplay and an absolute dogshit story. I wouldn't really agree. The game switches up its playstyle pretty frequently, including side-scrolling platforming, railshooting, and turn-based combat but for the most part its classic hack-and-slash 3D platforming that feels kind of grindy, but there's multiple unlockable difficulty sliders that you can use to switch it up if you get bored.
Storywise, there's not a lot for newcomers and if you want to play through all the games as one overarching narrative, I wouldn't blame you for skipping this one. However, if you're already a fan of Sora and Riku's relationship, this has quite a bit for someone to dig their teeth into. The world's are all recycled from KH1, making this one of the two games where you can actually explore Destiny Islands, but they all feel pretty downgraded. The endgame gave me a headache.
Kingdom Hearts
Our best boy's first big boot step into adventure. I watched all of the KH cutscenes for all of the games during a particularly dry season of lockdown, so this was my first foray into the original. The story genuinely holds up to a surprising degree, leaning into the Disney elements more than its Squaresoft side for probably the last time in the series. Its really good groundwork for Sora's introduction as a hero, I especially love the assertion towards the end that it is Sora's choice to help others that makes him worthy of the Keyblade and not destiny. Its a theme that would be both muddied and compounded upon later in the series in a pretty interesting way.
I was almost astonished at how in-depth all of the worlds are, especially Traverse Town. There are a lot more little Disney references and sidequests, like the 101 Dalmation quest, that help the worlds all feel a bit more lively. Also NPCs, which later in the series would become a rare gift. I fucked up on the combat. Did not learn how to do spell shortcuts until midway through KH2. Despite that, it was still fun to wack Heartless with my keyblades six different ways, and it makes me excited to replay it at some point.
Kingdom Hearts II
This is the big boy that every KH fan loves to absolute death. Chain of Memories had already started the series tradition of experimental storytelling, but the mainline sequel takes it to an fascinating and well-executed degree. For the first three hours you are forced into playing a new protagonist with zero context and near zero Disney shit. Vivi is there though and we love him for that. Later on we would see this prologue as the tragic conclusion of another entry in the series, but its initial presence here is jarring in a way you have to piece together throughout the rest of the main game. It would also introduce many of the more headache-inducing plot aspects that are fun to dissect but a pain to explain, such as Nobodies. I see them as ghosts, and no one can tell me otherwise. I wrote a whole absurdist retelling about it.
The worlds are more quantity than quality, I'll be real. About half of them are made up of 4 or 5 flat maps with nothing to do except grind Heartless encounters, (e.g. Mulan.) The other half are a bit meatier but could have benefited from more sidequests and such. You revisit quite a few from KH1 to see how they changed and that's always fun. There's a theme to each of the Disney worlds that add to the narrative, in this title mainly being romance and identity. The identity aspect leans toward the relationship between Sora and Roxas, two separate people who are also one person, while the romance theme hints towards the relationship with Sora and Kairi. Oddly enough, both themes also seem to work towards Sora's quest for Riku, who is in the midst of his own identity crisis while Sora desperately tries to find him. Huh. Interesting.
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep
This is my favorite Kingdom Hearts game. This was one of the few I was able to play as a teenager and even after all these years I still adore this game to death. It works without knowing anything else about Kingdom Hearts. You don't need to know about Ansems or Nobodies or Time Travel; none of that shit. This is the story of three friends that get torn apart by their own ignorance and one bitter old man on his quest to change the world. Its one story split among three perspectives, and each character you play through the game with you understand the grander narrative. You understand why Aqua's best friend snapped at her, why Terra's little brother is so ready to die. You also get to hear Leonard Nemoy yell "KEYBLADE" in the same cutscene three different times.
I love this game so so much dammit. The combat has a fun collection system where you earn action commands and combine them to make better attacks and healing moves. The worlds in the latter half of the game are also really creative and fun to explore, though you get a limited area to move around in for each character. If you have played previous KH entries, there's a lot of references to make you point at the screen and go "THAS AXEL THAS MY BOY HE'S A LIL GUY HERE." Anyway I'll shut up. Play this game.
Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance
Never ask me to explain the plot of this game. They added Inception to Kingdom Hearts and also Time Travel. And the story is mostly told through unlockable backstory cutscenes including the premise. Yes, the introduction to this game's story is an unlockable. Despite this, the story is pretty effective. This is Riku's second time in the spotlight since Reverse/Rebirth, though the game is once again split between him and Sora. It dissects Riku's character arc in a similar way to Re:Coded, except uhh this one isn't a computer simulation, he is a Dream. Completely different. It asserts his desire to continue as Sora's protector, and realizing this it is him who ultimately triumph's over Angst Teen Xehanort, saves Sora and passes the Key Test. He's no longer on his Way to the Dawn. He's in the light. It's sweet.
The worlds in this game are based around vertical movement. There's a new Parkour mechanic that lets you wall-step-flip around basically everywhere, and to compensate this the worlds are Huge. Since they're dreams, that also means they're pretty empty of anything to really do or explore. They are pretty at least. There's also a pokemon mechanic where you collect lil guys. I did not realize this mechanic also determines Riku and Sora's stats until the final boss, which caught me off guard. I see why this is a lot of people's fave KH game of all time, but its a little too busy for me.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
This is an odd one. I first played this game two years ago at college alongside Oracle of Seasons in my spare time. Eventually my phone-I MEAN MY AUTHENTIC GAME BOY COLOR- broke and I thought I lost my save data for both. Turns out I did not and finished through the last few dungeons. This game makes solid use of the time travel mechanic, which is a mix of Ocarina's time travel and Alttp's world jumping. It's fun to jump sporadically between 1000s of years and see the world in different eras. That rock? Used to be slightly over to the left. Would you look at that.
The dungeons had a larger focus on puzzles in comparison with Season's love for combat, which is probably why this is the more beloved twin. Some of the dungeons had me waddling back and forth for too long until I figured out what to do. You can link these games up to get bonus items like the Biggoron's Sword which is fun to complete. After beating both games, you get an extra final boss against Ganon and a scene hinting towards the beginning of Link's Awakening, which is a nice touch. And then Nintendo declared them two separate Links, for some reason. Beh.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Oh hey. One of the most beloved games of all time. I have played through this games more times than I know. Probably around like. 6 times I used to boot this game up and play all the way up to the Forest Temple and then restart for some reason, I don't know how many times I actually got to the end.
Its a game that eases you into its idyllic fantasy world before dropping you headfirst into the apocalypse you inadvertently caused in your quest to destroy evil. Its never a melodramatic game though. Its about the loss of innocence. Maturity. Learning that the evil was always there, before the King of Thieves took over the world, before you were even born. It even came from the place you are trying to protect. But there was always goodness too, there was always light. There are always friends to be found in dark places. The style and presentation are peak. The dungeons are rich in aesthetics and well made puzzles. The time travel mechanic is honestly a bit undercooked. But this game is fantastic. Quintessential Zelda.
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure
I straight-up forgot I played this. Its fun though. Its a relatively short game, but compared to its predecessor, its a huge improvement. The game plays out in stages like the first Four Swords game, but usually in explorable environments, like towns and forests rather than generic volcano and cave themes. You control all Four Links at once, moving them into different formations to move rocks or put fires out. Or you can do it with friends controlling each Link. I did not. :(
I was mainly interested in this games story from a lore perspective. It features the return of Vaati, the Wind Creep who Lova Da Ladies, but with the addition of the Rise of Ganondorf. You are sent to stop him from a wise owl, Ganon allies himself with Deku Scrubs, attacks the Gorons, and is eventually turned into a monster by his own lust for power. It seems more and more like a retelling of Ocarina in a different light. Eh. Maybe I'll write about my Zelda timeline theories in a different post. Not here though
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory
BACK TO KH BABY! This is a rhythm game, so I don't have too much to say. I've never really played any rhythm game before this, and I'm not sure if this one is on par with the more well-known rhythm titles out there, but I had a good time with it. Its great for people who like Kingdom Hearts music, lmao. You have a lot of unlockable character groups to play through the music with and level them up, but once I unlocked the Days trio I didn't really go for the others too much. Xion my beloved.
The story is hilariously shallow, almost insulted considering its Kairi's first solo outing, technically. She's on her quest to learn all the KH lore she missed out on, and eventually finds a repressed memory of a grown adult monologuing at a toddler for fifteen minutes. Also that her boyfriend is alive so that her boyfriend's boyfriend can go save him. Her boyfriend's boyfriend is also her boyfriend. Fight me.
Kingdom Hearts III
People were. So upset when this game came out. Acted like it was the biggest disappointment since the ill-fated economic crisis of '07. Sure, yea, that's a reference. Well this is the first time I've gone into it and I'm here to say this is probably among my favorite KH games of all time. Strong competitor with BBS. A lot of the criticisms of the story and gameplay weren't wrong per-say, but the issues with this game, such a goofy dialogue, bizarre pacing, and over complicated exposition dumps, are problems with the entire series that fans of the series, in my opinion, have come to see as endearing elements of Kingdom Hearts. Its funny to watch the big cloak guy point at Sora and say "Darkness Light Heart Darkness," and see Sora gasp in fear, while also realizing the importance of that dialogue to the story. It's a feature, not a bug.
The worlds in this game are its biggest asset. They are huge, heavily detailed, heavily explorable areas with tons to discover. Hell, the Pirates of the Caribbean world acts as a slightly smaller Wind Waker. The game adds in most of the mechanics from all the spin offs to give you a lot of toys to play with, such as parkour or sharpshooting, that are easy to forget but a treat to use when you actually remember them.
A central theme of each of the Disney worlds is happy endings. Hercules finally takes down Hades for good. Mike and Sully are able to visit Boo without risk to her safety. The dead Baymax from that one Disney movie gets a redemption arc. Frozen and Tangled play out exactly as their movie which is kind of boring. This correlates with the happy endings the rest of the supporting cast get to experience, including the initially tragedies of the BBS and Days trio in scenes that genuinely got tears out of me. But Sora doesn't get a happy ending. He sacrifices himself to strong-arm everyone else into their perfect circumstance. Literally breaks the rules of time and space to force the universe into saving his friends at the cost of his own life. And then Hell turns out to be Tokyo so its not all that bad. It makes you feel for the boy. This game also lets you play as Kairi in the DLC which makes me happy.
Alright ending this here. I've played way too many games this year this isn't even half. Also only including games I've finished, and games with definitive endings. I played Mario Kart 7 but that doesn't rlly end, ya know? Will try to write these weekly, even if no ones reading them. But if you do read them tell me what you think! Gonna switch over to books next week to even it out. I swear I don't just play games. This is the last Kingdom Hearts game on this list too I swear.

"My eyes may look evil, but my heart's anything but that!"
The first party member Geo meets, Vyren Asphodel is always ready to lend a hand and can't just leave someone be... provided they don't run away from him first.
Vyren's bio is under the cut.
Name: Vyren Asphodel (pronounced Vee-ruhn)
Age: 25
Height: 180 cm
Birthday: 5 July (Cancer)
Personality (Miitopia): Kind
Job (Miitopia): Thief
Pronouns: He/Him
Likes: Goblin Ham, Sword Sashimi, Roast Lizard Tail, Sandwich, his friends
Dislikes: Snurp Radish, Penguin Treat, Bone Biscuit, Mouse Treat, Iceberg Salad, judgmental people, squirrels
Hobbies: Exercising, playing card games, stargazing with Geo, visiting the local markets
Clothes: Wears a fully zipped greyish-blue long-sleeved top that's partially covered by a pink bandana and a pair of greyish-blue capris is worn over a pair of dark greyish-blue tights.
A pair of dark bluish-black zipper boots are worn, along with a dark greyish-blue belt with a silver metal buckle and a pink pouch attached to it. A greyish-blue bandana covers the scalp, with the hair tied up with a pink hairband and a pair of light grey goggles with pink lens is worn around the head.
Sexuality: Gay
Description: Tall, pale, and muscular with surprisingly broad shoulders, Vyren is capable of athletic feats with his signature being backflips. His dark grey ‘just below the shoulders’ hair is tied into a low ponytail, with his fringe gelled into two prongs a few centimetres away from his face. Vyren’s remembered for his unnaturally pale pink eyes and sharp narrow eyes, which gives off the impression that he’s a slightly deranged villain.
He wields dual daggers and a total of six throwing knives, and also keeps another six more throwing knives on his person as spares. At night, he wears his night vision goggles so that he can see in the dark. Thanks to Gladea’s upgrades, he’s able to see clearer and farther in the dark.
Background: Vyren grew up as the oldest child to the royal family in a kingdom located in the Powdered Peaks. When he was born, the first thing everyone noticed was his unnaturally pale pink eyes. This resulted in everyone assuming that he was cursed, thus everyone around his age shunned him.
Initially, his family tolerated him as he was the only heir they had. Even so, they distanced themselves away from him and were only observed to interact with him during social events. Overtime, Vyren wasn’t brought to social events after discovering that his hair remained a dark grey and his eyes resembled evil. His family then started to tell him that he didn’t deserve love for he was different from everyone else and that he was just a burden, something which Vyren took to heart.
When he was six, his younger sister was born. After discovering that she was born without any odd traits such as pink eyes, grey hair and villain-like eyes, they realised that instead of making Vyren their heir, they could make their daughter their heir. However, to do so, they needed to get rid of Vyren first.
As they discussed ways to assassinate him, Vyren’s father pointed out that family tradition requires heirs to participate in a parents-child camping trip when they turn 12. Given that there were only a few more years before Vyren turned 12, they decided to wait until he was old enough to participate in the camping trip before carrying out their plans.
For the next six years, his family did their best to isolate the two siblings from each other such that his sister didn’t know of Vyren’s existence. Vyren himself didn’t attempt to communicate with his sister as he doesn’t want an innocent person to be stained with the knowledge of being related to ‘a loveless child’.
On the first night of the camping trip, his parents left him alone in an ice cave during a heavy blizzard without food, water, gold, and clothes. To ensure that his fate was doomed, they sealed the cave by exploding the entrance. Vyren knew that his family was trying to kill him, but didn’t protest as he thought that it would eventually benefit his family in the long run.
Shortly after the blizzard ended, a dragon dug away the rocks that blocked the entrance as that was their cave. Seeing that Vyren was naked and about to die from thirst, they took pity on him and flew him to the nearest town after he insisted to not bring him back to the kingdom. Once he arrived, everyone immediately shunned him due to his ragged appearance.
As no one was willing to help him, Vyren has no choice but to resort to stealing from the residents in order to survive. He was soon caught after a few months, and was promptly banned from returning to that town. Since then, Vyren has visited numerous towns, stealing what he needed to get by and to prevent from being banned, he learnt how to figuratively blend in with the shadows in order to successfully steal from others. At one point, he had to learn how to fend off his targets as some of them were perfectly willing to kill him if it meant protecting their possessions.
Shortly before the game, he visited Greenhorne Town in order to steal what he needed before setting off for Greenhorne Kingdom to steal a small sum of wealth from the castle's treasury. While travelling along Easin Hills, he heard the divine power calling out to him and asking him to help Geo who was nearby. Realising that he would finally be able to be useful to someone, he quickly went to find Geo with the divine power guiding him to his exact location.

my games of the year!!
hey yall!! with the year coming to a close i wanted to list my top 5 favorite games that i played this year!
5. honkai star rail - i was really conflicted abt putting a gacha game on here, especially since i don't even play it much anymore but tbh the belobog arc was just too good not to put it here. maybe the next planet will bring me back in but i didn't really like the luofu at all. but the time i spent on the herta space center and belobog were so enjoyable that i rlly feel like it deserves this spot.
4. octopath traveler 2 - this came out this year?? jfc this has been a long year. but yeah this game is really good!! i would absolutely die for agnea. i feel like in just about every area this game was a huge step up from octopath 1, i found every character really enjoyable and i genuinely cried multiple times during castti's story (malaya.... she loved her) and in general just loved nearly every story, and the endgame and how the characters from each route tied in was so cool. i think there's still some qol needed in certain areas and that's why this is only fourth but overall very good game i recommend. also ochette is super fun to play, love beastmaster classes sm
3. fire emblem engage - sort of the opposite of octopath honestly, the story was pretty awful in this game and the characters were all very one note but the game is just so gorgeous to look at and so so much fun. what can i say, i like fire emblem dfkdfskdkdsf and while the characters and story are completely camp i found it charming in it's simplicity at times, lapis and citrinne especially were really endearing characters to me. this certainly isn't my favorite fe game bc i admittedly prefer story/character heavy ones like 3h but i still found it to be a really enjoyable experience with lots of fun customization! i hope they take a lot of what was in engage and put that into future games bc i rlly need more fe games where everyone has cute casual outfits like that and you can dress everyone up all silly. this game is just pure silly fun.
2. cassette beasts - so this one took me by surprise. this game is an absolute GEM and if you like pokemon at all you seriously owe yourself to play this!! it takes everything i love about pokemon and just brings it to a whole new level. the story, the characters, even the designs for the beasts are all so peak. the way types interact with each other is so fun and something i've never seen before in this genre. this is the type of game i absolutely see myself replaying every year just to try out new beasts and the randomizer mode and stuff!! ALSO THE WAY YOU CAN REMOVE THE MOVES AND PUT THEM ON OTHER BEASTS?? god. this game is everything i WISH pokemon was, and if it were any other year it probably would have been my goty. but..
baldur's gate 3 - yeah. i mean, do i even need to say anything on this one?? a strong demon lady held me in her strong arms and kissed me. we ate spaghetti together. we went to hell and fought demons together. this game is a lesbian love story and i- oh wait i probably shouldn't just talk about karlach for this whole section lol. really though, bg3 is just one of those games that hits different, there is SO much to do in this game and not a single moment of it isn't filled with fun. exploring the world was so fun, whenever i discovered secrets and stuff it felt amazing, there's just such a wonderful feeling of mystery in this world. there's so many ways every interaction can go, the story is amazing, the characters are amazing, the multiplayer is amazing. this whole game just fucks hard, and i think it's not only my game of the year but possibly my game of the decade. i think if this game's mod support gets better then we could be looking at a stardew valley situation where fans keep the game alive FOREVER by adding all sorts of cool stuff over the years. i can't wait to see what gets added as time goes on! anyways back to karlach so yeah i wanna cuddle with her and go on a pizza date and be pinned against the

I’m So Cute Even the Grinch Want to Stole Me Ugly Christmas Sweater
Tumblr media
Christmas Pikachu Pokemon Ugly Christmas Sweater
The USD is what I’d call the stress barometer of the Christmas Pikachu Pokemon Ugly Christmas Sweater, and a breakout to the upside is indicative of the stress in the system. Note that this makes sense because when the Fed tapers from bond buying, they are essentially strengthening the dollar. The S&P 500 index is trading at all-time highs because the large and mega-cap names are holding it up, but there is a lot of subsequent carnage (and increasingly so), which is a classic sign we’ve topped off in the market. The M2 money supply peaked in February of 2021, which coincided with the top in the most speculative parts of the market, including SPACs and Cathie Wood’s ARKK. Well, the truth is, the companies whose stocks have overrun have gotten so large in market cap that it’d take them years for them to grow into their respective valuations, so either these companies grow at a much faster pace, which is unlikely, to “catch up” to their stock prices, or their stock prices will have to come down to Earth

Pokemon Card of the Day #2641: Hydreigon (Crimson Invasion)
Tumblr media
Hydreigon was a weird sort of Pokemon that seemed like was built to hurt its own side. When used well, said thing was instead a benefit, as the game did not lack for Benched Pokemon that were placed once for the use of an Ability that activated when played from the hand and then were done. The catch was that Hydreigon also used up Bench space, and that its disruptive attack actually did backfire by design. It would take some careful play to get the most out of something like this, but having a role that didn’t overlap with other cards was always a good first step.
160 HP was the kind of bulk a Stage 2 needed to keep up. Even Pikachu & Zekrom-GX needed an Electropower to get to that level, for example, so the earlier Pokemon such as Zoroark-GX were going to need an extra turn. A Fighting Weakness was a big issue in 2018′s BKT-On format due to Zygarde-GX, Lycanroc-SX, Buzzwole-GX and the like, but meant little after the shift to only Sun & Moon-era cards due to other cards just passing those decks by. The Psychic Resistance didn’t change much in most cases, but having a slight extra buffer against something like Garbodor or Mewtwo & Mew-GX was still nice in a few spots. Hydreigon needed 2 Energy to retreat, so if you were just using it for its Ability you would probably need a Trainer to switch it around if it was targeted by Guzma.
Weed Out was one of those really interesting Abilities that would work only with certain Pokemon. Luckily, most of those Pokemon were quite useful. Once during your turn, you could choose 3 of your Benched Pokemon. Anything you didn’t choose would be discarded. That probably seems bad, but sometimes you’d be in a spot where you used a Tapu Lele-GX to get a Supporter and didn’t have a need for its attack. Maybe that Dedenne-GX was just taking up Bench space. Hydreigon could get rid of those, but also took up a Bench spot so you were really working with 4 spots instead of 5. This could still have some value for decks that relied heavily on that sort of Pokemon for draw and support, at least, as sometimes they did get in the way.
Dark Destruction had some interesting applications as well. 120 was a pretty solid number for 3 Energy, and if you wanted to stop at that you could. You could also discard an Energy attached to Hydreigon if you wanted, and if you did so you got to discard an Energy attached to the opponent’s Active Pokemon as well. This was best if you could pair it with something like Crushing Hammer to get rid of multiple Energy at once, setting the opponent back more than what you did to yourself. It also worked best against high-HP Pokemon that didn’t have a ton of acceleration, since you could lock things down longer that way. Finding a good target ended up being hard due to this, and the attack was mostly a good damaging move that could buy a turn in a pinch against the right opponent.
Hydreigon was a solid, but not spectacular, Pokemon. It hit hard enough to keep up as an attacker while clearing Bench space when needed. It probably would have seen a decent bit more play if it was a Stage 2 or was on a type that had more going for it. Darkness was not at its peak at the time and the game was starting to shift from Stage 1 to Basic Pokemon with time. If going for a Stage 2 that wasn’t a Pokemon-GX, this was one of your best options. You could still get some mileage out of it compared to most things with the same build.

Hello Jan! I am such a big fan of the game, I've been playing since v9 I believe. Thanks to you and the rejuv team for putting this game out there. I have one question and one request, sorry if that's too much.
Question- Is there a chance of the iconic cutscene towards the end of chapter 11 where Melia's hair is flowing in the wind and she promises to herself that she'll never let Madam X succeed be added back in the game? (I know a lot of people bitch about sharing the spotlight with Melia but the art for that cutscene is so beautiful and it also shows how far Melia has grown)
Request- Can I please get 10 useless facts about Dark Gardevoir?
PS- I love Crescent as a character so much. Her story is so tragic to me and I feel like she's underrated by the fandom in general.
I'll see what I can do. There wasn't a good moment for it, but maybe I can squeeze it in somewhere!
As for Dark Gardevoir, sure!
1.) Was a Ralts that had extraordinary power for its species.
2.) Was found by "Mr. Luck" and was put into his circus for entertainment.
3.) Her design and character is based off the Destroying Angel from the hebrew bible. They are the "messengers of death" or executioners of the lord.
4.) Was found by Vitus after it was abandoned by Luck when the show was no longer sustainable for him.
5.) Believed that Vitus cared for her despite his disgust for Pokemon in general. Obviously, this was not the case.
6.) She was the prime executioner for Servants that became "too much of their own person", or diverged from Vitus' rule.
7.) Adopted a disgust for Pokemon just like her master due to their extremely close bond.
8.) Obviously, this close bond was only one sided, so Gardevoir was never truly at the peak of her power like she thought. Her future sight was also hampered by this as a result.
9.) Sensed the curse placed on Vitus by Anathea immediately and is the reason why she loathes her.
10.) Was put through intense training by Vitus the moment they were together. It was this rough training that altered Gardevoir's appearance and gave her a darker power.
