Who is Mu-Deok?
Crown Prince Go Won: Filthy Mu-Deok? A stinky, insolent peasant, always causing trouble! But only I am allowed to say that. I’ll execute anyone who harms her.
Jin Cho-Yeon: Jang Uk’s maid. There’s something weird going on with her, and she always manages to cause problems. For me specifically.
Seo Yul: the soul of my childhood sweetheart and a dangerous assassin, inhabiting the body of an innocent girl. She is a monster but not the way people think. It will break my heart to kill her.
Park Dang-Gu: Uk’s maid! We all think she’s great! There seems to be a lot of trouble around her which is such a shame bc she’s lovely!
Jang Uk: my master, my servant. My love, my killer. My best friend, my torturer. The only one who knows me. Truly the other half of my soul. She would break any rule to be with me, and I would bend the laws of the universe for her. My wife, my obsession. My protector and my delicate bird egg to protect. No she doesn’t like me back.
Naksu: idk man I just live here

Marth and Tiki drabble
On Ao3
“Give me your hand for a moment, Mar-Mar,” Tiki requested.
“Alright,” Marth agreed, ever obliging.
Or, more accurately, distracted. He was doing paperwork, reading through letters and reports, and so he held out his hand, unconcerned by Tiki’s request, without thinking about why she wanted it.
She held it in her own hands gently. Marth’s hands were bigger than hers. They were calloused from years of wielding a sword, but still rather soft. Tiki had heard some of Marth’s men describe him as delicate once. With his neatly trimmed nails and warm palm and slender fingers, she thought she might just understand what they were getting at.
She bit him.
Marth kept working for a moment, then abruptly stopped. He looked over in confusion, his head tilted in question as he watched Tiki hold his thumb between her teeth. Tiki was being as gentle as she could, unwilling to hurt him.
“Tiki,” he said gently. “What are you doing?”
Tiki released him to answer. “I’m trying to make you a dragon.”
Marth blinked. “Pardon?
“Xane told me a story about dragons who could bite people to turn them into dragons,” Tiki explained. “I thought that sounded marvelous. I imagined a world in which you would never leave my side and we could fly through the skies together. Doesn’t that sound nice?”
“That does sound nice,” he replied. “But, I think perhaps Xane was speaking about vampires.”
“Vampires?” Tiki repeated, turning the unfamiliar word in her mouth.
“Creatures of legend who drank the blood of their victims and occasionally made those victims into vampires themselves,” Marth said.
“He was messing with me again,” Tiki mumbled, pouting. “How mean. I was really very excited, you know!”
“Don’t fret,” he soothed, his fingers curling around Tiki’s hands. “I’m sure he didn’t mean any harm.”
“Still,” Tiki huffed. “I don’t want you to leave me, Mar-Mar. I want to stay with you forever.”
“Oh, Tiki,” Marth sighed, but his smile was fond and warm. “I will always be with you. Even when I die, I’ll still be with you.”
“No you won’t,” she said.
“You’ll always have your memories,” he said. “We live on in the memories of our loved ones. So long as you don’t forget me, I will be at your side always.”
Tiki held onto his hand, her own trembling.
“It won’t be the same,” she mumbled.
“No,” he agreed. “It won’t. But I will die one day, Tiki. I can’t stop that. All I can do is make more memories with you, so that any pain that comes alongside my loss is lessened.”
Tiki released his hand to hug him instead. He hummed, but hugged her in return, his touch as gentle as ever. Tiki buried her face in his shoulder.
“I don’t want you to go,” she sniffled.
“I don’t know what other option could exist,” Marth mused. “Unless you’d like me to haunt you?”
“I wouldn’t be scared if Mar-Mar was haunting me,” Tiki told him firmly, clenching her fingers in the back of his tunic.
“I don’t know that I could watch you sleep for thousands of years,” Marth told her. “It would be a long time of being idle. I’ve never been good at that.”
“I’ll stay awake then,” she said.
“How will you grow if you don’t sleep?”
“But-!”
He ran a hand over her head.
“You’re strong, Tiki,” he said. “You’ll be just fine without me. You’ll be able to make even more friends. You’ll be able to make wonderful memories. And when you die, I expect you to tell me all about the adventures you’ll have. The world will change so much, I want to know all about it.”
Tiki looked at him, tears still glittering in her eyes. She met his eyes for a moment, then nodded.
“Okay,” she agreed. “I’ll tell you everything. Even all the boring stuff.”
“I look forward to it,” Marth chuckled.

The first Fire Emblem game has me so gooped. Nearly obsessed and lowkey in a rage way. If I didn’t have save states via the emulator these late game levels would take me days. I have to beat it. I have to beat it. It’s testing my patience but I WILL take Marth and his little no personality units to victory

Sham of a Prince { Katarina & Nanna
As the most successful scammers of the group, “Marth” and “Roy” are your biggest targets. A chance encounter in a large town brings you face to face with the two, but things turn complicated when a crowd forms in support of the imposters. A gaggle of fans proudly support these “down-to-earth princes”, viciously defending them against your supposed slander. Try as you might, just one sensuous “babygirl” from Marth is enough to rally the crowd against you. The puffed-up “Roy” goes as far as to say they are undefeatable in their strength and purity of heart… but can they prove it? [Grants Sword +1]
The concept of imitation was still abstruse to Nanna because it meant that the imitator only had enough substance to make half a man out of themselves. When Scàthach had explained to her that they needed a fake Lord Leif, it had dawned her that the nature of these scammers were no better than the likes of Shannam—who, in her youth, pranced around with King Shannan’s name as a sell sword.  Sighing, she didn’t know if that humanized the scammers or made it just a tad more exasperating on her part, but she supposed he was the one mimic who had been on their side. Retelling Katarina of her woes at fifteen, Nanna recalled Shannam lightheartedly. “—And you see! My childhood friend Mareeta told me that he had somehow taught her Astra…!”
As she waved her arms, animated and amused, Nanna inadvertently bumped into a man who slid his soft hand into hers with one fluid motion. “Excuse me, sir!” She enunciated each syllable, emerald eyes flaring dangerously. “I apologize for impinging on your space, but please unhand me!” Nanna snapped her hand away from him, before she was compelled to do something far more impulsive. She wasn’t exactly the pugnacious sort but…
Indignance seared over the man’s face, whose sky-blue eyes had a vague, insidious glint to them for a moment. His whole body reared away from her, as he flung his pompous blue locks back in spite. “Now, that is no way to treat the Hero-King Marth, miss! If only you were half as serviceable as you thought you were, attempting to lay your hands on me.” This ‘Hero-King’ had hallowed cheekbones and a long maw that must have belonged on the other end of a horse. He shrugged both shoulders, cockily shaking his head as he laughed his way out of his own embarrassment. ‘Marth’s’ blue eyes met Katarina’s and smirked, gesturing to her with a vanity that bordered on flirtation. “Isn’t that right, baby girl?”
Tumblr media
“Don’t you prefer the company of a prince?” He winked.
He couldn't even keep his titles straight.
Nanna raised her hand to him, half-arched to slap his wits about him— only to be grabbed by the wrist by another man with a red fringe that wasn’t entirely dyed. “And now you’re raising a hand to him, too? You should be honored that Hero-King Marth and Prince Roy of Lycia are of pure heart! Isn’t that right, starlings?”
Erupting from both sides of the open square were a group of young girls who clamored in infatuated squeals. “Y-yes, our Kings! You should be glad they are as merciful as they are kind!” A couple of childish voices rang out from the crowd.
“Oh come off it,” Nanna disregarded their effrontery with a scoff and a snap of her wrist, cracking away from this ‘Roy’ character. “Katarina, I think we’ve got our scam—” Nanna stopped in her tracks, as Katarina’s face was contorted in a way nearly unrecognizable. “—mers…”

—  Mars; A Peaceful God of War(?)  —
The corruption of Marth's original name as well as the connotation attached to its origins is always a topic of fascination for me. Dubbed Mars after the Roman god of war, the inability to perfectly translate Japanese characters into English phonetics likely twisted the '-su' sound into a '-th' and that became the Marth we know today. In Japanese he's still named Mars and this in turn gives him an entirely different first flavor as a character than the western mistranslation, which can be considered very polarizing if one isn't aware of Greco-Roman pantheon specifics.
At face value, Mars, god of war, is not really illustrative of the kind-hearted and idealistic exemplar that modern day Marth represents. Closer inspection of his role within the four Archanea games does wonderfully to map out the key characteristics that make Marth, or Mars, so deserving of his name. A name that, at some points, even seems exceedingly suited to him at that; a veritable aptronym.
Tumblr media
And it must be due to this scene, right?
The unwavering aplomb in the face of a fast approaching enemy host? The dedicated profession of his statement to not only defeat, but also totally destroy and “crush” imperial Archanea, fueled by his vindicated anger and moral superiority in this war at having his kingdom invaded by the suzerain he swore to serve?
Only a little. His faithful accuracy to Mars lies more namely in that Marth is twice-fold the commander of a vast liberation army and beacon of hope for the disillusioned people of Archanea, their military messiah the 'Hero-King' as in line with the hope-filled image of Mars—the patron god of defensive and offensive peacemaking, or use of the army as a facilitator for lasting peace. This as opposed to the Greek variant, Ares, that waged war negatively for anarchy, is an obvious and illuminating selection.
Nyna:  Grust’s artillery…Our opponent is mighty.
Marth:  Nonetheless we must face them head-on; they stand between us and Altea.
Nyna:  That hunger for danger worries me, Marth. Humanity’s hopes rest on your shoulders. I would sooner not see them crushed.
Marth:  Which? Humanity’s hopes, or my shoulders? …Have a little faith, Nyna. The enemy ballisticians can strike from afar, but they’re powerless up close. All we need to do is move in and silence them before they do too much damage. Watch!     (Chapter 13: Wooden Cavalry)
True to his etymological roots, and reflected by pieces of his dialogue alongside, Marth is not by any means an unremitting pacifist. He’s a trained commander, a necessary swordsman, and the military aspects of his character number many regardless of his peace-loving traits. It can be easy to overlook how committed and unswerving he is to his tactics just as well as to his own amicable ideals, but laid out before the player is stark evidence.
Coexisting with the noble prince is a determined, self-certain, and sometimes even cocksure commander. For one, there’s not a lot of meaning or intent to misconstrue with either the exchange he shares with Nyna when faced with the famed wooden cavalry of Grust, or even less, the very certain words he has for Cain in response to the knight’s report that imperial Archanea was closing in on their location.
Grust and imperial Archanea respectively were extolled as the most powerful armies in the world. These things mean nothing to a man like Marth who is backed by great extraneous purpose, a kingdom to save and a war to end much greater than his own fears.
Marth:  I'm truly glad that you came back unharmed, Cain.
Cain:  Yeah, somehow I managed to shake off the enemy and escape here.  But the enemy is already approaching from the north.
Marth:  Don't worry. We will crush them.   (Chapter 8: Soulful Bridge)
From his portrayal in the Maki Hakoda manga to Dragalia Lost to the animated OVA as well as the many expressions of his self-sacrificial nature in Shadow Dragon, Marth is not above using his emotional or physical well being for the sake of furthering his campaign. Furthermore, the Jagen of the manga adaptation states that Marth moves decisively, striking down the commander of an army and thus disabling its chain of command, removing the reason for the enemy soldiers to fight.
The manga insight, more importantly, illuminates the heart of Marth’s approach across most of his iterations. His desire to see the least amount of casualties amongst both allies and enemies leads to him employing strategies that will end his battles as quickly as tactical ability can allow. In the FE12 remake this line is reallocated to Kris, but originally it’s Marth who suggests the quickest route to Pales by cutting through Adrah Pass which is well aligned with his desired element of speed and highlights his military acumen.
Marth:  We must defeat Grust once and for all. If we march south without finishing them off, we have our rear exposed.
Nyna:  Then you mean to invade.
Marth:  Yes. And this time, General Camus will be there to meet us. I am sure of it. ‘Camus the Sable’, they call him. Many extol him as the most able warrior alive. It will be a fierce battle…but one we cannot avoid.
Nyna:  You are certain we must face him?”
Marth:  We have crippled Grust, but they will regroup and stand in our way again. No, we need to stamp this fire out before the wind catches it and starts spreading it anew.     (Chapter 19: Manakete Princess)
War to Marth isn’t won by overwhelming numbers or vast discrepancies in military technology or advancements, it’s the clever and never wasteful targeting of goals and expeditions. He cuts no corners and lays out no lace or frills on the explanation of his warpath. When Nyna asks if he means to invade Grust, he puts simply that he does without wavering at the semantics. At Castle Helena he launches another preemptive strike on the Grustian occupational forces stationed there, seizing gold and provisions to curb the army’s life flow.
He doesn’t only wage defensive warfare, but also more aggressive stratagems if he believes it will be a means to convincingly less bloody ends. The cleanest end to their war. His quote in FE11 especially invents the most lucid core of his approach to battle. He means to fight and he means to fight well; this in turn identifies just how precisely efficient he can be when exercising his role as commander over the Archanea League.
Malledus:  Sire, we are nearing the Macedonian border.
Marth:  Did you send a messenger?
Malledus:  Yes…but…
Marth:  They will not yield.
Malledus:  No reply came, sire…
Marth:  I knew they might not switch and join us, but I had at least hoped to avoid bloodshed…So be it. Macedon stands between us and Dolhr. And Gotoh is here somewhere as well. If the battle must be fought, I mean to fight it well.    (Chapter 21: Clash in Macedon)
His strict adherence to utility is softened by his consistent behavior of allowing his opponents to flee, reiterating to his soldiers never to pursue those who throw down their weapons or show their backs. His messenger to Michalis and his words to Camus—though both failed attempts—were inducted with the intention of parley and armistice. Marth is far from a purist, but he is a moral and pacifistic leader who is repulsed by human death, protracted war and suffering, and peace is his goal. That is where the distinction lies.
Mars, the Roman god of war, is the military god of moral war practice. True to his name, Marth is good at war but refines his temperament with the vision he has for peace. He’s good at war, but behind the hardened face of a commander is a sensitive man who deeply dislikes fighting. Be it the contrast between his gentle face and bellicose-sounding origins, or his aptitude and personality, there’s a dichotomous yet informative quality lying beneath the surface of his original name, ‘Mars’.
