Sandstorm not being antagonistic to Princess is a good thing. Actually. The trope that they had used in the original novel is this: women get bitchy with each other when they have a common male loved one (very often he's love interest and his sister). You see it a LOT in 90s-00s sitcoms because they loved the joke that women are catty and instantly hate each other.

Sandstorm and Princess being instead gay for each other is an improvement.

I mean, I think you are better off arguing it is because Sandstorm is prejudiced towards her because she fits her stereotype of the lazy kittypet unlike Fireheart. And this plays into what we have said before here in this blog about there being a push to smooth over and invert negative character traits like that in female characters.

If your issue with that is that it's not explored properly as a flaw I think a more drawn out Cloudpaw arc would have worked better for that. Which gets back to my issue with it, being more that it's truncated and underwhelming rather than inherently any change made within it.

But yeah, now that you mention it I do take issue with her relationship to Princess being more amicable.
