Back when I used to read Warrior Cats as a young lass, I would always wish that all the kittypets (Smudge, Princess, Bumble, etc.) would go and join Thunderclan or one of the other ones so that the clan cats would stop being mean to them. And that way, they could “prove themselves” to be the cool and awesome characters I believed (and knew) they were.

I mean, my kid brain was able to see how the kittypets were interesting characters (especially after reading about only the clans for months on end), but was unable to understand why they were treated so shitty. Look at Smudge, for example. If I remember right, bro literally had a vision during Firestar’s Quest about Skyclan. This made me real excited as a kid because that had implications that Starclan didn’t care if a cat was a kittypet or not (I wish), they would send visions through to them anyways. And I thought that would lead to more and more kittypets to be accepted into the clans and respected. Instead, Smudge was left along with Princess in the background to fade from the fans’ minds and the relevant narrative.

The books would always revert back to that same idea that kittypets suck and always will. Which confused the hell outta me until I grew up a bit and realized that the Erins somehow figured out how to make cats be xenophobic towards each other.

But the moment that really solidified my realization how Warriors is so sucks actually was when I read Dawn of the Clans. I was kinda excited to read it in a way because I figured that it would explain some of the reasons why the clans are like That in the present. I also thought it would explain why kittypets were so hated and where that stereotype of being fat and lazy came from. Maybe they went to war at some point, maybe they laughed at the clan cats as they watched them starve over the winter, something like that.

Imagine my disappointment when the clan cats fucked off from the mountains and met a kittypet just to immediately hate them for no good reason. Then, Bumble showed up, and I loved her character. I had just read Wings of Fire and got to see the sweet relationship between Sundew and her girlfriend, so when Bumble and Turtle Tail started hanging out I thought “Oh yay! Cool epic relationship that isn’t the same thing as every other relationship in the series! Something new!”

We did not get cat lesbians. Instead, we got to read about a cat being body shamed (Why does that exist???), not allowed sanctuary from her abuser, and then how she was left to be starved in the woods until resident she-cat killer Clear Sky came around and killed her with no consequences.

But, after all this, I did get a semblance of an answer to my question of where the stereotype of fat, lazy, and useless kittypets came from. It came from Bumble. After all the time that passed, because of Bumble’s suffering being deemed inconsequential and her being overlooked as a result, she is remembered not as the confident and perhaps a bit sassy cat that she was. She is remembered as the source of a stereotype that is still used within the series to justify its discrimination.

I had to stop reading after that. It just felt gross to read something like that. I did not read this shit at the young age of 13 to listen to the narrator try to convince me that Bumble’s death was alright because she was “just a kittypet.” Bitch, that was a character. You made cat racism, don’t play with me

Telll meeee why I spent nearly 24 working hours making this bloody niche as, kitty cat arcade illustration over a week, but still can't motivate myself to do laundry.

This is kinda another teaser for the video I'm making, I'm doing my best to burn through it, because I want to make other stuff! But can't! Until it's done!! Ahh!

No regrets tho, I really enjoyed making this :0 it's sort of a redraw of this drawing from about a year ago when I made the /other/ kitty cat arcade video. It's not the fairest comparison of growth, considering the differences in effort spent in each, I mean I didn't even finish last year's.

If anything, it just shows that I've gotten worse at prioritising my time???

smudge is a travel domain cleric! he used to travel with fire heart and hattie, before fire heart settled down in the thunder kingdom. he and hattie travel around and help fellow adventurers where they can. he prefers to heal, but can hit pretty hard with his staff if need be. he and hattie visit fire heart when all three are around the thunder kingdom.

warrior cats au/rewite(?) thing

nobody asked but they have been in my head for far to long

Basically Rusty and Princess both start out as members of bloodclan that are being kept in the smaller two-leg place because Scourge is basically privately training them. They befriend smudge, who is still a kittypet(I imagine that the town rusty is from in the og books is on the edge of the city). Anyways they eventually go into the woods together(rusty managed to convince smudge and princess to follow him in this time).

They end up running into and fighting Graypaw and Dustpaw, Smudge runs, but princess and Rusty are actually able to hold their own VERY well, considering they are being personally trained by the leader of BloodClan. Graypaw eventually manages to stop the fighting, and sees princess' and rusty's collars, rusty only has one tooth in it, whole princess has quite a few in hers. before dust and gray can ask any questions about them, Bluestar, Lionheart and Redtail show up(redtail gets to meet rusty before "dying.")

(I only have a Lionheart design out of these three)

Blah blah blah bluestar asks Rusty and Princess to join, and they say they'll think about it like in cannon).

They go back to the abandoned house they were staying and smudge is relieved their alive. At first Princess is against joining ThunderClan, and Smudge agrees, but rusty is like, “c'mon guys pleasssseee, if we don't like it we can just return to BloodClan” and they end up agreeing because firepaw used his special move, plot.

Anyways they go to ThunderClan and longtail and darkstripe beat them up(ignore the old art style I don't like it). Rusty loses his collar and becoems firepaw and princess is forced to take hers off because apparently wearing other dead cats teeth is "disturbing" and "disrespectful" and she gets renamed scorchpaw. And smudgepaw is there too I guess.

And then like in cannon tigerclaw and Ravenpaw show up with redtail's corpse.
