In a perfect world, LIGHTSUM would just release new music already, and I wouldn’t have to make up new things for the members to do. But in the real world, it doesn’t feel like new music is happening anytime soon, so I can’t help wondering if this group is interested in a reunion. I would stan.

The Wire is an American crime drama television series created and primarily written by American author and former police reporter David Simon . . . Set and produced in Baltimore, Maryland, The Wire introduces a different institution of the city and its relationship to law enforcement in each season while retaining characters and advancing storylines from previous seasons. The five subjects are, in chronological order; the illegal drug trade, the port system, the city government and bureaucracy, education and schools, and the print news medium. . .

Simon has said that despite its framing as a crime drama, the show is "really about the American city, and about how we live together. It's about how institutions have an effect on individuals. Whether one is a cop, a longshoreman, a drug dealer, a politician, a judge or a lawyer, all are ultimately compromised and must contend with whatever institution to which they are committed."[5]

The Wire is lauded for its literary themes, its uncommonly accurate exploration of society and politics, and its realistic portrayal of urban life. During its original run, the series received only average ratings and never won any major television awards, but it is now often cited as one of the greatest shows in the history of television.[6]

Salon has described the show as novelistic in structure, with a greater depth of writing and plotting than other crime shows.[27]

Each season of The Wire consists of 10 to 13 episodes that form several multi-layered narratives. Simon chose this structure with an eye towards long story arcs that draw in viewers, resulting in a more satisfying payoff. He uses the metaphor of a visual novel in several interviews,[7][48] describing each episode as a chapter, and has also commented that this allows a fuller exploration of the show's themes in time not spent on plot development.[5]

"We are not selling hope, or audience gratification, or cheap victories with this show. The Wire is making an argument about what institutions—bureaucracies, criminal enterprises, the cultures of addiction, raw capitalism even—do to individuals. It is not designed purely as an entertainment. It is, I'm afraid, a somewhat angry show.[52]"

This is an incomplete list (apparently I love lists) of details scattered throughout the 1st season (still working on the 2nd, my head needs some rest) which seems to be either: hints to a deeper truth; red herrings; mistakes; meaningless details not to be taken seriously (except, in time traveling story, messing with dates and times would be silly, it shouldn’t happen, right? RIGHT??)

Unfortunately, at the moment I am unable to collect screenshot of the episodes as reference, but if you request them I can produce the timestamp.

Episode 1

Emma’s mother sends her a message at 02:47 of the 15th April 2021. The phone states “Wednesday”. Too bad April 15th 2021 was a Thursday. Why, Why Wednesday. Is that a mistake? Was it meant to say that they live in a different timeline? Is it a hint that shows that Time is already broken?

I had my timeline all done and to simplify it, I was sure that: - 14th at 22:00 – 16apr!CXS dives in Emma - 15th at 10:00 – 17apr!CXS dives back in the present - 16th, before evening – QL states the mission - 16th at 22:00 – CXS dive in 14apr!Emma - 17th at 10:00 – CXS dives back and LG pass the info on the fraud to the client. - 17th, Later that day, the fraud makes into the daily news - 17th evening – Emma goes home, finds spring rolls and blankets, calls her mother, meet Liu Min - 18th at dawn, Emma dies. - 18th evening, LG see the news about her death until I realized that the consensus is that the news about the fraud came out on the 15th already, which would make sense with her not seeing CXS message before coming back home and her parent arriving straight away. But then, How could the news about the fraud reach the public before Shiguang were involved? Another time traveler? A mistake? Which timeline makes more sense? I’m not sure anymore. Is it important? Most probably.

Emma's wristwatch consistently marks times inconsistent with the timeline, which I will just tag as “random watch pics, do not read too much into it” and move on, but I feel I still need to acknowledge them.

Episode 2

Now, I have nothing much to say about this episode, except that it seems to be completely separated from the main plot, every episode is strongly affecting the whole story, why this one does not? They could delete it without affecting the overall plot and it weirds me out, probably because I’m a little bit too paranoid at this point.

Episode 3-4-5

Three major problems with these episodes:

Obviously, the glasses issue: at first I indeed thought it was weird, but then we saw Liu Min walking easily while possessed, so I thought that, somehow, the possessor retains its physical characteristics while diving. But then, episode 12 kindly reminded us of this glasses detail. So what’s going on here? Are physical abilities passed down while diving or not? And in that case, what’s happening, someone put lenses on Chen Xiao? The glasses were not his? Is there someone else possessing him?

Why is Chen Xiao the only one actively asking to change the past? Any other case has always been just about retrieving information.

And why does LG accept? Because I’m definitely not buying that the only crucial node is the actual earthquake. After the dive, Chen Xiao should feel less guilty about that day, and therefore he has no reason to look for the “Fairy” in the first place. Isn’t there a time paradox through and through?

Episode 6-7

Why the date on the Security Camera is 20XX/XX/XX 14:48:12 instead of an actual date? What’s the secret here? Was it meant to hint that time is already broken (again) or was this an easy way to stalling because the authors had yet decided the days of the trip?

IF we agreed that, while diving, past and present time flows at the same speed, the two dives in these episodes overlap in present time:

first dive starts on October 13th at 14:30 in the present and presumably on 20XX/XX/XX at 14:30 in the past, the kidnapping seems to have occurred at 14:55, both in the past and in the past. We can presume that this dive ends way before the 12 hours limit was reached.

second dive begins right before the kidnapping, which again I presume happened on 20XX/XX/XX at about 14:55, then CXS awakes and LG states that the 12 hours period is almost done; the dive ends on October 14th at 02:55, which seems to suggest that the second dive started on October 13th at 14:55 BUT at that time CXS was still inside the first dive.

What’s happening here?? Am I wrong? Is time wrong? My goodness

Episode 8

This one drives me nuts for really no reason, I’m not even sure if I’m correct, BUT on the dial of Dong Yi’s wristwatch watch you can read what appears to be a 15 inside the box where, as far as I know, the day of the month is usually shown. IF this assumption is correct, Dong Yi’s watch marks that it is the 15th, while XSS’s phone marks that is October 21st.

Again, Why? Just why are they messing with our head?

Episode 9

Nothing new on this episode but, if only, this episode proofs that diving doesn’t need to start at the exact time the picture or video was taken, because CXS’s dive occurs somewhere between the 10:00 and the 14:45 of October 21st, while the dive’s time seems to be late evening (from more that 2 hours prior 22.34). Does this solve the issue with episodes 6 and 7? Not sure.

Episode 10

I’ll use this episode to address the elephant in the room: the 10:10 ghost clock!

The photo studio seems to have at least 2 clocks, one on the hall, with a red frame, plus another one in the darkroom.

However, a third ghost clock with a white or blueish frame switches place with the other 2 every now and then. The red clock seems to be working fine, the darkroom clock seems that either it stopped or it is 10 minutes off, the ghost clock always marks 10:10.

WHAT is this clock?! Is this a random clock picture just to fill the scene? Is it a hint that something happened at 10:10?

I, I… I’m lost.

Episode 11

I won't address Lu Guang's thought at the end of this episode but I'll leave them for my season 2 analyses, because they fit there better.

Therefore, nothing much is left to say about this episode, except that the darkroom wall with the clock keeps changing aspect (and even the clock disappears at some point).

But, just for the sake of my mind I will tag this as “do not read too much into this one” and, again, move on with my life.

And this was just season 1, I have no idea how mad it’s going to be during season 2.

Bora called the Into The New World team onto the stage. The girls introduced themselves to the audience.

“Let’s see the performance of the trainees who chose Into The New World by Girls’ Generation,” Bora said. “It’s show time.”

The Into The New World team sat down to discuss the song. Chaewon volunteered to be the leader, everyone agreeing with that.

“Now the centre,” Chaewon began. “Let’s select the centre because it’s very important. Who wants to be the centre?”

Eve, Yunjin and Nako raised their hands.

“Since the centre is the main vocal, how about you sing the high note part?” Chaewon suggested.

Eve nodded. “Okay.”

“Last time I didn’t try out for the centre position, but this time I want to stand out,” Eve said. “I’ve always been complimented for my singing, so I’m very confident that I can get the centre position.”

The girls sang the part one by one before lowering their heads so the rest of the team could vote.

“The centre is — according to the vote — Nabi unnie,” Chaewon announced.

“Thank you.” Eve bowed to the members. “I’ll do my best.”

As the team went over the song, Yunjin looked upset. She finally spoke up, “I really want to show you my voice. This may be my last chance, so can I try for the centre again?”

Eve nodded slowly as she fully processed what Yunjin was asking.

“We should ask Nabi unnie,” Chaewon said, causing everyone to look at Eve.

“Um… We can vote again,” she said, tucking her hair behind her ear. Her eyes flickered between Yunjin and the sheet music.

“Really?” Yunjin gasped. “Thank you, unnie.”

“I understood why Yunjin asked to try again, but it still surprised me,” Eve admitted. “This is a survival show and we need to survive to make our debut, so I’m not going to go easy on her just because I understand where she’s coming from.”

Eve flashed her a strained smile as Chaewon spoke up, “Okay, we’re going to vote again, but this is the last time. No more voting after this.”

The two girls nodded as they got ready to sing. They sang the high note part before lowering their heads so that their members could vote again.

“Okay, we’re done voting,” Chaewon announced, prompting the two girls to raise their heads. “The final centre is… Nabi unnie.”

Yunjin nodded as she clapped. “Congratulations.”

“I’m sorry,” Eve apologised, feeling bad for Yunjin.

“No, it’s okay. It’s okay.”

“Let’s see Into The New World by Girls’ Generation,” Soyou said as the girls walked up to the centre of the room. “Let’s sing one line each.”

“Yes,” the girls agreed.

“I’m the main vocal,” Eve started, “so I have to make the least mistakes in my team. I hope to give a good performance, even if it’s just a practice, and I hope the trainers compliment all of us.” She smiled at the camera.

Eve sang her part, receiving praise from the trainers. They moved on to reviewing the other members singing.

“Nabi, you look so tired,” Hoongki said at the end of their review time. “Have some energy!” He cheered.

Eve blinked rapidly, looking visibly confused, before waving her fists. “Woohoo!” She weakly exclaimed, causing Hoongki and a few of the trainees to laugh.

“Everyone here has decent vocal support and good to– Did you just say ‘Woohoo?’” Soyou cut herself off, looking at Eve.

Eve’s shoulders shook as she softly laughed. “I didn’t know how to be energetic while standing still. Trainee Hoongki didn’t specify what he wanted me to do.”

“She really looked like she was panicking,” Cheetah said as she chuckled. “She didn’t know what to do.”

Soyou shook her head as she tried to stop laughing. “Anyway, Chaewonie should try and add emotion to her singing so that she doesn’t sound so sad,” she summarised. “But other than that, you guys are doing really well.”

“Nabi is a very powerful singer,” Yoonjung commented as the trainers watched the performance.

Youngjun nodded. “It seems so easy for her to do the high note.”

Honggi chuckled. “The dance trainers are complimenting a vocalist.”

“Shush,” May J Lee said, playfully rolling her eyes.

The girls walked into the room with the results for their performance.

“I hate this place,” Eve complained, sitting down.

“Me too,” Yunjin agreed.

“I’m so nervous,” Moe said.

“Try to calm down.” Chaewon placed her hand on Moe’s shoulder.

“Try doing breathing exercises,” Erii comforted. “Like thi–” she was interrupted by her teammates screaming because the screen started counting down.

The members’ rankings were revealed one by one until only Eve and Chaewon’s rankins remained.

“I’m really nervous, but I want to come in first,” Eve said. “As the centre, I felt that I should come in first.”

Eve was revealed to be in first place, causing the girl to exhale in relief.

“You’re first!” Nako cheered.

“Congratulations, unnie,” Chaewon said.

“Thank you.” Eve bowed. “I seriously wouldn’t have been able to do this without you guys. I love you.” She made a heart over her head.

“We love you too,” Erii responded.

All of the trainees gathered in the hall at the end of the day to view the vote results.

“First,” Bora started, “we’ll reveal the grades of the six trainees who picked Into The New World. Please reveal it now.”

The votes for the trainees were revealed, showing that Eve was in first place with 602 votes. All the trainees gasped at her position.

“Kim Nabi from JYP Entertainment, who earned 602 on-sit votes, is the first place for now. Since she came first in her group, she secured 5 000 benefits.”

More groups’ votes were revealed, Eve remaining in first place until there was one group left to announce.

“Kim Nabi from JYP Entertainment, what do you think?” Bora asked. “Will your place be changed or not?”

Eve hummed in thought. “As much as I would like to stay in first place, I think I won’t be able to. Haeyoon unnie did really good, so I think a lot of people voted for her.”

“Who will take a total of 105 000 benefit votes? Please reveal it now.”

“I felt very stressed and I just kept staring at my name, thinking ‘Don’t change the rank. Don’t change the rank.’” Eve laughed. “It was so stressful.”

Eve was revealed to still be in first place, causing the younger girl’s jaw to drop in shock. Her teammates hugged her in excitement.

“The first place for Vocal and Rap position earned 602 on-site votes,” Bora announced. “The first place is Kim Nabi from JYP Entertainment. She earned total benefit points of 105 000 votes. How do you feel?”

“I feel… I don’t know, actually,” Eve admitted. “Being in first place feels surreal, but I feel apologetic to Haeyoon unnie because she did really well.”

Clerks #2: "The Clipshow Wherein Dante and Randal are Locked in the Freezer and Remember Some of the Great Moments in Their Lives" | June 7, 2000 | S01E02

This one starts out with a very funny gimmick. I say "starts out", notably, because it's usually my instinct to do what the episode does, and pretend as if it's going to sustain this gimmick for it's entire thirty minutes. It doesn't! The gimmick is this: Dante and Randal get stuck in the freezer at work, and one of them mentions how their predicament is like a premise for a clip show. They then actually begin reminiscing about past events in their lives, ACTUALLY turning this episode into a clip show. Trouble is they find themselves unable to remember anything beyond the previous week. That's because this is only the second episode, and they only have one other episode to flashback to.

Back when the show was new and I felt the need to sell it to people, I would always indulge in describing this episode exactly in that way: A second episode clip show where they only flash back to episode one. Technically, that's true, I guess. But the episode effectively drops this premise and flashes back to previous, newly animated moments in Dante and Randal's lives. The first non-episode one "clip" they flash back to occurs at 4 minutes and 22 seconds in, which is when they effectively drop this premise. To put things even further into perspective: Randal finishes delivering his line about how "if this were a sitcom" at 2 minutes 48 seconds. That means that the episode truly only runs with this premise for 94 seconds! There's at least one instance of callback after that, possibly two (I don't feel like rewatching the entire thing, sorry).

It still makes for a really funny episode. They refer to various things like their participating in the MTV's The Real World, Randal ordering a mail order bride but ordering a strict Japanese mail-order HUSBAND instead, the first times they met (once as children in the 70s and once as young adults in the 80s, each flashback beginning with a very funny gag where the then-current president is seen walking past during the establishing shot) and movie fans are tossed a bone with various flashbacks of Caitlin Bree cheating on Dante with house painters. They even flash back to earlier in the episode, but with Randal's inaccurate and self-aggrandizing version of the events. This is the start of a recurring joke in the series where he envisions Dante as a dunce-cap wearing simpleton wearing a diaper.

They eventually escape, only to get locked in RST Video, where Randal suggests they watch Flintstones List, a combination of the Spielberg-produced Flintstones movie and his own Schindler's List. It's one of the funniest jokes of the series, and it was cut from television for being too tasteless. I think the part where Randal suggests they watch it was left in, but they cut out the clip from the movie. At one point I had the episodes taped from ABC, but I don't think I hung onto them after the DVD came out. I also probably cut out the commercials immediately after taping them. Sorry, everyone. If I knew then what I know now...

Speaking of them airing on television: ABC made the odd choice to air episode four, the courtroom episode, first, and then air THIS episode, which heavily references an episode that hadn't aired. What a bunch of jerks!

Season 3 Ramble#4 - All About Art ver.2

As you probably guessed from the title, this episode is all about art. Art is crazy subjective, with a crazy amount of forms, each form having a crazy amount of styles and each practitioner having their own unique spin or application. Art is huge, and I don’t think it’d be right for me to just be yapping on and on about it all by myself, so just like in version 1, which of course I encourage you to check out, I have a guest with me to help out today.

Now how this ramble is gonna go is that unlike other rambles where I rank, describe and then give my opinion on whatever manga I’m going on about that month, this time I'm gonna try and bring up what I thought were the main points of the manga in a more subtle way. I’m still going to give a general description of the manga but instead of the usual yapping we’re going to look at questions asked by the different manga so we can have the more contemplative yapping I believe the subject of art calls for.

I'm not going to transcribe the entire episode here in this post, what I'm going to do is give the descriptions as I said and include questions I thought they asked. If you're interested in our responses please listen in and if the questions themselves interest you please feel free to respond with your own answers. In either or neither case, the manga is still the focus of the podcast so their details are included below.

I usually come up with the descriptions myself unless otherwise stated but this episode all descriptions were pulled from anilist. also the list isn't ranked, the manga are ordered in the way I thought the questions best progressed.

1) Paradise KISS (story and art by Ai Yazawa, complete w 48 chapters)

Yukari wants nothing more than to make her parents happy by studying hard and getting into a good college. 4) Rock it, Girl! (Story and Art by Minoru Tanaka, complete w 12 chapters)

Kaname likes playing her guitar and singing by the streets and can't believe her ears when a strange girl who's actually a music producer suddenly offers her a contract for a debut CD.

However she tells Kaname that her voice is completely worthless and that she'll have to debut within a band and just be the guitarist. Furthermore, the vocalist who will sing the songs in her place is an arrogant girl full of herself who immediately starts bullying her; however...

5) Dragon and Chameleon(Story and art by Ryou Ishiyama, 8 chapters ongoing)

Hanagami Garyo reigns supreme at the pinnacle of the manga world, a genius author boasting millions of copies sold. An unrenowned rookie, Miyama Shinobu, lurks in the shadows below, consumed by his envy for fame. Their fates intertwine when an unlucky accident leaves Hanagami and Miyama swapped into one another’s bodies. 6) Thermae Romae (Story and Art by Mari Yamazaki, complete w 39 chapters)

When Roman architect Lucius is criticized for his “outdated” thermae designs, he retreats to the local bath to collect his thoughts. All Lucius wants is to recapture the Rome of earlier days, when one could enjoy a relaxing bath without the pressure of merchants and roughhousing patrons. Slipping deeper into the warm water, Lucius is suddenly caught in the suction and dragged through the drainage at the bottom of the bath! He emerges coughing and sputtering amid a group of strange-looking foreigners with the most peculiar bathhouse customs... over 1,500 years in the future in modern-day Japan! His contemporaries wanted him to modernize, and so, borrowing the customs of these mysterious bath-loving people, Lucius opens what quickly becomes the most popular new bathhouse in Rome—Thermae Romae!

7) Descending Stories (Story and art by Haruko Kumota, complete w 32 chapters)

This multi-generational epic dives deep into rakugo, a rich form of Japanese storytelling theater. Small-time crook Yotaro has never forgotten the rakugo tale "The God of Death," which the master Yurakutei Yakumo performed for Yotaro during his time in prison. After his release, he goes to Yakumo's theater and pleads to be made his apprentice. Yakumo reluctantly accepts, but Yotaro quickly finds the world of rakugo is complex and grapples with a growing bond with Yakumo's ward, Konatsu. Meanwhile, the two young people bring reminders of Yakumo’s own inescapable past.

Tisha Campbell Talks About Leaving Material Things Behind

Campbell's first television appearance was at the age of six, in an episode in 1974 of the PBS show The Big Blue Marble. As a child, she won many talent shows, going on to appear in such children's programs as Kids Are People Too, Unicorn Tales (played lead Daisy Bunsen in episode, The Magnificent Major), and Captain Kangaroo. At age 17, she performed in the musical feature film, Little Shop of Horrors as Chiffon, one of The Supremes-like girl group Greek Chorus, along with future Martin co-star & best friend, Tichina Arnold. After graduating from the Arts High School in Newark, she moved to Hollywood, where she became a star on the short lived NBC musical comedy-drama series, Rags to Riches (1987–88). She later starred in the musical comedy drama film School Daze, directed by Spike Lee, as Jane Toussaint. In 1989, Campbell costarred in the crime film Rooftops, and the following year starred alongside Eddie Murphy in the action comedy Another 48 Hrs.. She later appeared in a supporting role in the 1992 romantic comedy Boomerang, also starring Murphy. Her most notable film credit is 1990 comedy House Party for which she received Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female nomination. She later co starred in its two sequels; House Party 2 (1991), and House Party 3 (1994). In 1997, she received her star billed role in the Trimark Pictures' comedy film Sprung.[5] She later had the leading role in the independent drama film The Last Place on Earth (2002),[6] and appeared in Kevin Smith's sex comedy film Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008) playing the acerbic wife of Craig Robinson's character. In 1992, Campbell was cast as Regina "Gina" Waters-Payne in the Fox comedy series Martin. She left the show in April 1997, after settling the lawsuit against Martin Lawrence of sexual harassment.[7] The following year, she starred opposite Diahann Carroll in the Hallmark Hall of Fame film The Sweetest Gift (1998). Campbell returned to television in 2001, starring opposite Damon Wayans in the ABC comedy series My Wife and Kids. The series ran for five seasons, until 2005. In 2003, she won NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for her role. After My Wife and Kids, Campbell was a regular in the Lifetime comedy series Rita Rocks (2008–09). In 2011, she starred opposite Ally Walker in the Lifetime police drama The Protector. The series was canceled after a single season. In September 2015, she was cast in the ABC sitcom Dr. Ken, starring Ken Jeong.[8] The series was cancelled after two seasons in 2017. In the beginning of 2018, she played Olympic gymnast Simone Biles' mother in the Lifetime movie The Simone Biles Story: Courage to Soar.[9][10] Later in 2018, Campbell starred on the ABC drama pilot The Holmes Sisters about the lives of five African-American sisters, all officers in the NYPD. It was produced by Regina King and Robin Roberts.[11]

Obscure Animation Subject #57: Kimagure Orange Road

Based on the manga series by Izumi Matsumoto, the show is head written by Kenji Terada and head directed by Osamu Kobayashi, airing on Nippon TV from April 6, 1987 to March 7, 1988, with a total of 48 episodes.

The story follows teenage esper Kyōsuke Kasuga and the love triangle he gets involved in with Madoka Ayukawa, a young heroine with a reputation for being an unpopular loner and delinquent, and her best friend Hikaru Hiyama. A pilot film was produced and released in 1985.

After the series ended, another film was released on October 1, 1988. An 8-episode OVA series would follow and lasted from February 15, 1989 to January 18, 1991. A final film would release on November 2, 1996. The anime had received positive reception during its lifespan.

The series is influential and is credited alongside Dragon Ball for introducing entire generations of Europeans to anime and manga. It had major influence on the shonen romantic comedy genre. Although not the first to be made, it was the first to have significant popularity.

With how love and relationships are portrayed, strong comedy, beautiful animation and amazing supernatural elements, this show is a definite must watch! This is especially with the Christmas episode, an early usage of the time loop plot device, though used earlier in UY 2: BD.
