šØ BIG NEWS: We invite you to participate in the possible designation of a national marine sanctuary on the central coast of California.
The Northern Chumash Tribal Council submitted the sanctuary nomination in July 2015, and NOAA is considering sanctuary designation to protect the regionās important marine ecosystem, honor the cultural values of the local Indigenous communities, and protect a collection of historically significant shipwrecks and cultural sites. The nominated area stretches along 156 miles of coastline connecting the boundaries of Monterey Bay and Channel Islands national marine sanctuaries.
We want to hear from you! Visit sanctuaries.noaa.gov/chumash-heritage/ to learn more about the proposal and how you can submit an official comment online or by mail.

Uber and Lyft may not have to fingerprint drivers in California
Uber and Lyft may not have to fingerprint drivers inĀ California
Ride-sharing companies Uber and Lyft have had some issues with driver background checks over the years. More than 8,000 drivers from both companies failed checks in Massachusetts this year, while Uber was reported to have missed criminal records as far back as 2015. Uber was sued in California over misleading statements around rider safety last year, and both companies promised to leave Austin ifā¦

In April 2019, in response to a community-based sanctuary nomination, NOAA announced its intent to designate a new national marine sanctuary in New York's eastern Lake Ontario.
The proposed sanctuary would celebrate the area's unique history and heritage and provide a national stage for promoting tourism and recreation. NOAA welcomes your input about the proposal during the public comment period which ends tomorrow! To learn how you can submit your comments, visit: https://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/lake-ontario/. SEND IN YOUR PUBLIC COMMENT at https://cityclerk.lacity.org/publiccomment/ Enter file number 21-0140 Mechicano Art Center and 21-0136 for Centro de Arte Publico. Your comment can be as brief as "I support this nomination"
Big news from HPHT: The PLUM hearing is now scheduled for our Chicano Arts Collectives nominations for Tuesday, August 17th - please do your best to save the date to be there on Zoom for public comment!
You came through for us back in October and January for our CHC hearings, and we need your help again to bring us one step closer to designating the Mechicano Arts Center and the Centro de Arte PĆŗblico as historic cultural monuments.
In order to make the strongest case possible before PLUMās vote, weāre asking you to send a letter of support via LAās Portal at https://cityclerk.lacity.org/publiccomment/, make a public comment at the Zoom hearing, or both! If making public comment through the portal, please enter file number 21-0140 Mechicano and 21-0136 for Centro.
Comment will be available all the way until the final hearing in front of the full City Council, but we need full community support now so that PLUM votes to send our nominations to the full council.
The meeting will take place via Zoom at either 2:00 or 3:00pm, and a meeting link and agenda will be publicly available on August 14, which weāll post in our bio once we have it.
Please share this post and graphic with your network as well - we thank you for your continued support and are excited to share the outcome with you!

Would you be willing to email a public comment calling for the City of Salinas to invest in rather than cut public services before the City's deadline of 2:00 tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday, June 23, before the City Council meeting starts? The City staff is planning to repeat the mistakes of the past by harming the most vulnerable with massive cuts in public services, rather than using even one penny of the City's plentiful Rainy Day Fund to address projected budget gaps. Please take a look at the attached letter and let the Council know you agree with it (or at least parts of it)! Short letters are fine (and preferred) as the City Clerk will only read each one up to the 2-minute mark. Take action to defend our community and send your message about how the cuts to our city are wrong, and we must invest not cut. Send your public comment via email by 2:00 P.M. on June 23, 2020 to the City Clerk at [email protected] In solidarity on behalf of Salinas Valley Raising Link to letter: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c2ECZeUjwq62X-87YV6ySYq85Dze-o7R/view?usp=sharing https://www.instagram.com/p/CBwQJ7IA9F3/?igshid=1kt34nemv1ra1

#Sanctuary4MarineSanctuaries #MarineSanctuaries NEED YOUR #VOICE ; #PublicComments Window at #NOAA Ā :Ā
Ā Ā https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=NOAA-NOS-2017-0066
Dear Ladies and Gentleman of #NOAA + Esteemed Associates,
Our bodies, like our #planet, are primarily made from #water and our destiny as a species is inextricably tied with the survival of #MarineLife. What we do to our #Oceans and their inhabitants, we do to ourselves with exponentially greater extreme consequences.
" #Humanity Must Become as Sophisticated as #Technology ... Or We Lose BOTH . "
Our responsibility toward marine life, #cetaceans, every creature in the #sea, is no less important, than our responsibility to our citizenry and to the planetary #ecosystem which supports us. We must support the eco-system that feeds us, shelters us, indeed, affects every breath we take. An eco-system which also comforts us, bringing not only healing powers, but also joy, wonder, #science, and no less important, pleasure.Ā
Our #MarineSanctuaries, and our fellow creatures of the sea, have sustained us and we OWE it to these creatures to end the injuries we have already exacted upon them ...
It's our responsibility to STEP UP, not SIDE-STEP, our efforts toward sustaining these sanctuaries and our fellow citizens of earth ... In fact we need MORE SANCTUARY for our SANCTUARIES ...Ā
It would be an act of self-harm, to harm our waters, by invading further, where we have already trespassed ...Ā
PLEASE CONSIDER : THIS is THE moment in time that will define our own survival.Ā
Please allow me to reiterate : Our bodies, like our planet are primarily made from water and our destiny as a species is inextricably tied with the survival of Marine Life.Ā
" The Chain of Human KINDness is Stronger than our Weakest Links " my friends and I IMPLORE you to access HUMAN #KINDNESS ... #HUMANITY ... which is also a matter of #ETHICS ... in order to defend the helpless creatures we have already impacted with our human actions ...Ā
Please resist efforts made by greedy and irresponsible entities whom are either uninformed, or indifferent to the extreme stakes.
If only for purely selfish reasons, ... if only for your own #beach -going / #vacationing pleasure ... if only for your Kid's futures .... if only ... for whatever reason, (and there are SO MANY REASONS) ... please realize ... that if we don't IMPROVE conditions for Marine Life / Sanctuaries / Ocean-Health and the Health of our Beautiful Blue Planet ... this will harm us as a species ... and that harm will be irreversible.
"Humanity Must Become as Sophisticated as Technology ... Or We Lose BOTH . "
