What beer tastes most like pumpkin pie?
When it comes to pumpkin pies, everyone is different. There are many variants of recipes and even more flavors of beers, so it's hard to say what beer tastes most like pumpkin pie. Though some people may say that the pumpkin flavor in Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale is close to the taste of a pumpkin pie, there really isn't one beer that tastes exactly like a pumpkin pie.
Shipyard Brewing Company Pumpkinhead Dry Hopped Imperial Pumpkin Ale 14% ABV. Another one of the top pumpkin beers is Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. This is a rich and flavorful beer that has been brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice, then hopped with American-grown Saaz hops.

Carving Contest
A/N: This one goes to my lovely wife @nadja-antipaxos / @sexy-skeleton, thank you so much for requesting! And alright, so... I don't think we know Frankie's kid's name or gender in the movie but I like to imagine he has a girl idk why. I really hope you like it!
Fall prompts 🍂 "Is it supposed to look like that?"
Pairing: Santiago Garcia x reader.
Word count: 835 words
Tumblr media
When Frankie suggested a family-friendly Halloween party, one in which his little one could be a part of, you never expected the rest of the group to follow through… yet, there they were. The way Halloween goes with your fellow friends is the opposite of family-friendly, with overcrowded bars and way too much to drink, and on your side, a history of costumes made just to drive Santiago mad enough to make him push you against a wall.
Now, instead of all that, you find yourselves with a cooler full of canned beers and soft drinks, and your very safe matching vampire and victim costumes - yes, all with blood coming out of his lip and fake bit marks on your neck, styled with a long dress because “please wear something fucking decent”, Fish had warned you - Santiago and you join the rest of your group for a night of family fun.
You join Santi by the paper-covered table assigned as the carving station, where he fights against Will to crave a cute pumpkin. When you see him there you can´t help but smile at the concentrated look on his face as he stabs and cuts the biggest pumpkin he could find. He stands towering over an already opened pumpkin, his shoulders are tense when you place your hands on them to let him know you are there, and you kiss his cold cheek to try and ease him. “Who’s winning?” You whisper against his ear before sitting next to him.
“It might be a tie so far,” Santi replies after taking a quick look at Will’s work, who looks just as frustrated as your boyfriend. Still, Santiago lets out a huff of air, tired and exasperated at his lack of artistic skills. “I don’t get why Fish thought I would be good at this.”
“I don’t know, mi amor, but I feel like I should thank him.” You shot him a sly smile, since ever since you joined him your eyes couldn’t stay away from the way his arms bulked when cutting into the hard pumpkin.
“Ah, tramposa [cheater]” He jokes winking at you. “And I thought you had come here to help.”
“Nope,” You sip on your drink, your eyes roaming over his muscles. “I’m just here for the view”
A slight blush paints Santi’s cheeks pink, rolling his eyes at you but enjoying the attention still. After a few more cuts he lets the knife fall and sits beside you, hugging your shoulders to pull you towards his tired body. “Well, I think it’s not that bad.” Santi confirms.
Turning to look at the pumpkin you have to bite your lip to hold the laughter in. One eye was smaller than the other and the nose was crooked to the side, but it looks at you with a smile that you can only match in return as you kiss Santi’s cheek.
“What?” He asks, an eyebrow lifting up his forehead. “No review?”
“It looks great, Santi, but-”
“Oh, come on,” He glares at you, his eyes narrowing playfully at you.
“But is it supposed to look like that?” Santi looks back at his creation but you keep your eyes on him, his handsome profile confused as to why you were asking.
“What do you mean?” Santi is quick to pull out his phone, a picture of a carved pumpkin that he used for reference showing up on his screen.
“Look at his eyes, they’re not even.” You whisper, trying to not give away how badly he was going to lose. “And the mouth, it isn’t even open.” Again, you point out the clear differences between expectation and reality, kissing his jaw when he starts shaking his head.
“I can’t let her see this, she was so excited about it.” Santi looks disappointed, sad even, at the fact that he butchered his only task.
As if on cue, Fish’s kid shows up to see uncle Santi’s creation. She’s not as discreet as you are, giggling at the pumpkin that looks back at her with one eye too big and another one too small. “What is that?” She laughs, climbing onto Santi’s lap.
“That’s your uncle Benny after a fight.” Santi tries to rescue it, relaxing a little when he saw her laughing. His answer makes the giggles turn into a full belly laugh, and despite the result, the laugh coming from both you and the little girl makes Santi forget about his disastrous attempt at carving; instead, he joins in the laugh when he feels his heart becoming full. The way he turned the situation makes you look at him with a smile and crinkled eyes, a proud smile at how he made his favorite girls happy.
"I think you won." You push his hair back, resting your hand on the back of his head just to feel him, to let him know how happy you were by seeing him happy too.
"I think I did." Santi might be a crappy artist, but he was damn good at making you smile.

Not saying you should out-conspiracy the vaccine complainers, but I’ve done it and it’s extremely funny to watch them glitch out
I find not engaging with crazy people to be far more rewarding because they hate that shit.
Crazy people is a list including, but in no way limited to:
People who tell others they need to get the COVID-19 vaccine
People who tell others why they shouldn't get the COVID-19 vaccine
Everybody in government, every country, every level
People who speak English as a primary language
People who do not speak English as a primary language
People who think they speak English as a primary language but can't fathom the difference between "lose" and "loose"
People who don't like cheese
People who don't like chocolate
@shriekingpotatos
People who think pumpkin is edible
People who think parsnips are edible
That one guy in NY who doesn't like ice cream
People who vomit their political/religious opinions around like anybody actually wants to hear that shit
Full-service restaurant non-tippers
Pretty much everybody in Cracker Barrel's corporate offices
The entire state of California and everywhere a Californian moves to
People with pictures of a shitty dark circle of the eclipse talking about how beautiful it was - your fucking picture wasn't
Pete Buttigieg
Mike Pence
The entire cast, audience, production crew, janitorial staff, and pretty much anybody in any way affiliated with The View
People that don't want to try my homemade wine and beer
The makers of Zima, clear Coke, new Coke, clear Pepsi, and all the god-awful clear beverages of the 90's that on a good day tasted like a rhino's expressed anal glands mixed with sweat
People who gave Unicorn Overlord bad reviews - your opinion is bad and you should feel bad
The IRS, especially those who decided auto-gratuity was a wage and not a tip
Those Just Stop Oil protesters that shut down roads so people sit there with their cars running, burning more oil
People who let their children run loose
Customers in general. Should have led with that.
Managers, especially the ones who think it's somehow motivating to have pay/hours/job threats constantly looming and that yelling is the best way to get what you want
I could have just said customers and left it at that...but I'd already typed too far and was too lazy to scroll back up. -J

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers
Located at 1051 Westside Dr in Durant, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is a vintage-style, local chain that’s a magnet for those with a penchant for nostalgia. They serve up their signature steakburgers and some awesome hot dogs, but their freshly-churned frozen custard is the real crowd-pleaser. This establishment prides itself on offering rich and creamy premium custard, freshly churned throughout the day.
For the autumnal palate, they serve a delightful Pumpkin Pie Concrete and its more liquid counterpart, the Pumpkin Pie Shake. Adventurous souls can venture to design their treat with the ‘Create Your Own’ option, while traditionalists might lean toward the Signature Turtle or PBC & B. Kids (or just the young at heart) will want the ‘Dirt ‘n Worms.’ For fans of classic combinations, the root beer float and a variety of shakes and malts are always a great choice.
Hours
From Thursday to Wednesday, they open their doors from 10:30 AM, with closing times at 10 PM most days and at 11 PM on Friday and Saturday nights.
Tiki G’s Shaved Ice

For those feeling peckish, they do have awesome tacos that pair perfectly with their expansive beverage selection. But we’re here for dessert, and it’s their snow cones that are a hit among the young and the young-at-heart, with flavors for everyone. If you’re looking for a drink that’s refreshing and sweet, their slushies are an excellent choice, too, and better than any you’ll have at a chain.
The real showstopper is their Dole Whip, a soft serve sensation that has earned rave reviews, and their Bubble Waffle isn’t something to miss. For those with an adventurous sweet tooth, Tiki G’s has their ‘Sugar High Freeze Dried Candy.’ Imagine topping your shaved ice with freeze-dried candy like peach rings, gummy worms, and Nerd clusters, Jolly Ranchers, Skittles, and even Caramel Suckers.

Guest Review: Murder at the Blarney Bash
Beacon Bakeshop Mystery Book 5
Darci Hannah
Kensington Pub
Jan 23rd, 2024
Murder at the Blarney Bash by Darci Hannah is filled with St. Patrick’s Day shenanigans. Readers will be delighted with shamrock sugar cookies, green icing, green beer, and Guinness cupcakes.
“I decided to write a St. Patrick’s Day mystery, but I am not Irish. I do not drink green beer.  I love Irish lore, leprechauns, which I see as super funny. LOL:  I was inspired for this story by the box of “Lucky Charms.”  I would ask my mom if I was Irish. I wanted to explore the background of the main character’s love interest Rory.  He has this fun-loving and charming Irish uncle. My son gave me this crazy good idea for the story including a child’s leprechaun parade.”
The plot begins with leprechauns, something that the main character, Lindsey’s boyfriend, Rory’s Uncle Finn is obsessed with. He recently relocated with his daughter Colleen and their dog Bailey from Ireland to open a pub and bar, The Blarney Stone. As the characters are celebrating the Irish holiday, in comes Uncle Finn, gleefully revealing a pot of real gold he claims he took from an actual leprechaun. But things go from good to bad when he is arrested for supposedly bludgeoning a small man dressed as a leprechaun with the murder weapon his missing shillelagh. Now everyone in Lindsey’s circle of friends must put their head together to figure out how to prove Uncle Finn’s innocence.
“I looked at Irish lore. 2000 years ago, when a child had a deformity, they would be left out for the fairies. I also looked through medical journals. In my neighborhood when I was growing up there was this banker who was embezzling.  I used this as to why there would be a murder with a pot of gold. Rory’s uncle had a faith and belief in the old ways and believed he saw a leprechaun. When I was doing the research there is this place in Ireland that claims they have the remains of a real leprechaun. The skeleton has bones of a small person and had worn green clothing. The remains were found with some gold coins.”
Readers get to know a little more about Kennedy, the supporting character and best friend of Lindsey. “Kennedy is now doubting herself, dependable, trustworthy. She is the most polarizing character I write about. She is an influencer, likes to market, and involved in fashion. In the last book, Pumpkin Pageant, she nearly lost her life and does not know what she wants anymore. She is a loose cannon. Right now, she was with a wealthy English man instead of Tuck, the policeman. But he is a liar, thief, shifty, and calculating.  Kennedy was wooed by him and his willingness to supposedly help her business. He would say anything for a business deal. The main character, Lindsey can see through him more than her friend, Kennedy.”
It is such a fun read that will make readers laugh with the antics of the characters. There is also a murder mystery to solve that readers do along with the clues found out by the amateur sleuths. The story is amusing, with an Irish accent and many twists and turns.

Brew Review - Pumpquistador by Ancient City
At this point, it’s safe to assume that in the fall breweries are going to have some sort of a pumpkin beer. It’s a foregone conclusion at this point. The real question, however, is what do you name it? You can’t just call the thing pumpkin beer, and there’s only so many jack-o’-lantern and pumpkin spice latte references to go around. If you can somehow combine it with local history, that makes…

90/50 - Winterset Hollow, Jonathan Edward Durham
The table was set and all were met with barleywine and beer / There were kin around and smiles abound as Barley Day was here / Glass-blue skies and pumpkin pies and bellies full of bread / Stories of old about glory and gold and the paths that elders tread…
And so it goes.
I put myself in a very weird headspace reading this one. Read in one night with an old anime OSTs playlist on (sometimes it worked really well with the text, but the incongruity was funny too), I really enjoyed it! Reads like a horror movie; dramatic irony abounds.
I’ve seen some reviews say it’s a little too on the nose, but I think being hit upside the head by a book is a good thing once in a while.

IN REVIEW: THE WORLD IS A VAMPIRE TOUR
Let’s first take a minute to play a little make believe. Now, if you were the lead singer of one of the 90’s most infamous bands, pioneering a sound that teenagers for generations after would come to mimic, and continuously selling out tours even over 30 years after the release of your debut album . . . your natural progression from this would obviously be to then buy a perishing American wrestling team, right?
The next evolution would be to then pack up your team NWA ( National Wrestling Alliance, not to be confused with 90s rap group) and take them on a massive world tour with you and your band, before putting them in a ring with the WAOA ( Wrestling Alliance of Aus) team on the Australian leg of the tour.
On top of the already tremendous treat that is bringing gloriously camp 80s style wrestling back to the public, you also brought with you Alt-rock idols Jane's Addiction, and Australia’s very own Amyl and the Sniffers, Redhook and Battlesnake.
Sounds delicious, right? Well the good news is, this fantasy is a reality baby! Well, at least a reality to Billy Corgan, righteous leader of The Smashing Pumpkins. And you best believe we ran to see this one of a kind day-festival go down.
THE WORLD IS A VAMPIRE tour kicked off its Australian leg last weekend, at Eaton Hills hotel in the ever-humbling suburban Brisbane.
Immediately upon walking through the gates, it was obvious that this was a veteran music  crowd, between a sea of black band tees ( despite the grueling QLD heat making its final attempts of a summer sun) ,  wrinkling arm band tattoos and indubitably , the tell tale sign that it is definitely not someone's first rodeo; COMFORTABLE FOOTWEAR. You know how you can count a tree's age by the rings on its trunk? You could count the ages of the punters purely by looking down and categorizing ages by sandals and docs all the way up to fashion tragedy brand sketchers.
What may be a first rodeo type thing though, would be the wrestling ring smack in the middle of the grounds. We grabbed a beer and quickly joined the legion of punters that had gathered around, attempting to cohere goth rock and wrestlers in pleather jocks and sparkly boots.
Around 4:30, Melbourne band Amyl & the Sniffers came out to play. After catching them numerous times as their name grew over the years, I found there was always one constant between every single show - a rowdy crowd. And to be honest, even the word rowdy is a light way to put it. I’ve seen broken bones, split lips, spilled beers and mud fights go down in an Amyl mosh; a place that is typically not for the faint hearted. So imagine my surprise when I showed up to the pit, prepared to battle, only to be met with a crowd of swayers. Seriously, there was more movement at a retirement village bingo night.
Tumblr media
But, as I looked around and found the only energy coming from the stage and maybe 3 odd randy 16 year olds in the crowd, I found something new. A generational divide that taught me something about the appreciation of music. It wasn't as if the people standing still weren't enjoying what they were seeing, I believe it was actually quite the opposite.
They were standing still and soaking; each individual guitar riff, the bass lines, the drum beat that held it all together, and the ever fantastic showmanship of Amy Taylor. The end of each song was met with a roaring applause, regardless of the absence of blood shed in between the claps.
Tumblr media
It seemed that the only showcase of violence at this festival was reserved for the overexaggerated display in the ringside. And I mean, is this perhaps not how it should always be? Either way, what a fucking breath of fresh air it was to feel this safe and protected by the punters around you at a gig.
As the sun set, Jane's Addiction took to the stage to remind us of everything that was so wrong but so right about indie glam rock from that magical period that was late 80s into early 90s. Things like Rhinestone vests, fingerless gloves, exotic dancers dressed in red lingerie swinging off of parallel bars, all soundtracked to music that you would probably find your uncle smoking weed to in his garden shed turned man cave. It was absolutely a sight to see, a glimpse of the showmanship that we so sorely miss in today's acts.

Finally, just as dusk set, came the main event. The creme de la creme. The cherry on top of an already mouthwatering day. Walking out to a crowd already to well warmed up by bands whose members were probably still in diapers the first time they took to an Australian stage, The Smashing Pumpkins needed no introduction. As the title song from their new album of the same name ATUM played, Billy cooly strode onto centrestage through a cloud of smoke, looking reminiscent of Nosferatu in a black cloak, bald head and dark vampiric makeup, before launching into ‘Empires’.

I must note that despite the effortlessly cool music and rockstar status, it was so refreshing to watch the comradery between Billy and co-founding member of the band, James Iha. Between nearly every song, the pair would take to the mic to talk to the crowd in third person through each other, poking fun at the crowd and one another in a way that you only can do when you are this close to another for this long.
“We started this band in my fathers bedroom where he sold drugs… its true…and we're still here”, then the two performed an acoustic cover of fan favourite ‘Tonight Tonight’.

As thrilled as I was by this whopping two hour set, I would hate to spoil the best bits. I'll leave by saying that I can not recommend this tour more, no matter your age or demographic. There truly is something for everyone to see.
