This is a low-quality Brazilian Amethyst Cluster I got from the Searchers Gem Show in Anaheim, CA. (You can vaguely see a smaller, higher quality amethyst at the bottom)

Did you know that Amethyst like all quartz are Silicon Dioxide and that the purple color comes from Iron impurities? Also, Brazil has the most amethyst deposits in the world and most amethyst will be sold as Brazilian amethyst.

Once upon a time amethyst were considered cardinal stones, which is an antiquated term for precious gemstone . But its commonality makes it much more inexpensive! I got this bad boy for 20 dollars.

A lot of amethyst form in geodes or pockets of rock because of water being trapped beneath volcanic activity. Where, as the water evaporates it leaves behind mineral deposits and the gas creates near perfect pockets for the crystals to form!! 💜💜
