Soooo... it's 4 in the morning where I am, the sun isn't even up yet.

But I'm harshly resisting the urge to send this picture to my mom and gush about the quilt I'm making and how well I think it's going! She gave me all her sewing stuff so I could even learn to sew.

I'm making the quilt for my new baby cousin, James. He is my grandparents only other grandchild. Sadly my Nana never got to meet him. But I've been learning to sew and I got excited to make him a quilt because my Nana had 2 quilts, one of which she used all the time and I am now repairing because it is falling apart with age and love. She said my great grandmother made it for her when she was a baby and it gave her a lot of comfort during sleepless nights.

So now I want to handmake a quilt for baby James. I'm thinking of embroidering a patch to put on the back of it and somehow include our Nana in it.

An 1859 cottonwood cabin with a white wash walls and gives a fitting picture of what life was like in the mid-1800s in Nebraska’s Platte River Valley. Then, this room would have served as both bedroom and a living room. The One-Patch quilt in the cradle and the Turkey Tracks quilt on the bed represent the kind of handwork typically done by [white] pioneer women, who often worked in the evenings by fire light after a day of hard labor. Much of a quilting was done during the winter, when the farms always-substantial workload subsided a bit. This cabin is part of the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer in Grand Island Nebraska.

At a country inn in California, quilts, lavendar walls, and lace curtains promise guests thoroughly romantic surroundings. A white Marseilles spread is topped with an Album quilt and a Nine-Patch quilt in soothing pastels. The lavendar pillowcase was created by folding an embriodered dresser scarf in half and stitching it to a cloth backing. Hearts of dried rosebuds dot the wall.
