Phillipa Featherington really went from a catty older sister picking at Penelope and throwing her side eye, to a happily married woman who quickly and fully embraces the, “Featherington’s support each other,” vibe in the absolute best ways.
She was just as shocked as the rest of the ton was that her little sister was Whistledown all along, but when you could hear a pin drop and the mood was at risk of turning, her tiny pregnant self was running across the room shouting, “Now Varley! The bugs!”
She made the moment undeniably celebratory. Her baby sister just emerged triumphantly as more than what anyone thought she was. It was perfectly represented by beautiful butterflies.
And in the epilogue, she essentially says she hopes her daughter is just like her.
This is the sort of character development I live for.
Absolute perfection. 10/10. A+. ⭐️

Random thoughts on Colin & Portia:
I loved watching how the “neighbor boy,” Portia Featherington assumed was a typical rakish gentleman, out of reach and unrealistic for Penelope to like:
Declared his love for her daughter assuredly, fervently and loudly to make sure nobody dared question that he wanted to marry her.
Defended Penelope fiercely even against her own mother to make clear that mistreating or disrespecting his woman would not be tolerated.
Discovered Penelope was Lady Whistledown (after he himself said no one would ever marry LW because she would bring ruin on her family) but not only did he not end the engagement despite being upset with Penelope about it, he married her anyway and his vows were undeniably heartfelt and sincere, he gave her a wedding ring which was not necessary or common practice at the time apparently (Daphne just got the one ring from Simon), and he danced with her in broad daylight at their wedding breakfast (rather romantically).
He was immediately furious the second he heard that someone would dare blackmail his wife, and not only would he not stand for it, he immediately acted (however misguidedly he did so) intending to protect Penelope and when the situation escalated, he was willing to lie to his family and pay a fortune to keep her safe.
And much to Portia’s surprise, he took accountability for his part in making things worse when he could have blamed everything on Penelope.
Then Colin supported Penelope’s choice about how to handle the LW situation and when she revealed herself to the ton.
When Penelope offered him an annulment to free himself of association with Lady Whistledown, he insisted he was lucky just to be with her because he loved her.
Then Colin danced with Penelope, clearly sending the message to the ton that he loved and supported his wife. Lady Whistledown did not trap him nor would he be turning his back on her. This was our first glimpse of Colin “My Wife” Bridgerton.
Colin gave Penelope a son, and the Featherington estate the heir they so desperately needed, and Colin will no doubt raise her grandson to be a man of honor, elevating the formerly mocked and disrespected Featherington family to a level of respectability on par with the Bridgertons.
As if that weren’t enough, Colin continues to support Penelope as a wife and mother, encouraging her passion for writing/working.
That Bridgerton neighbor boy single-handedly made his mother-in-law, a justifiably jaded cynic, believe in love.
I cannot wait to see their relationship in future seasons.

Eloise, Colin & Penelope season 4 scene I need:
Eloise: Please do not take offense but every time I have seen you two this week, you have been positively disheveled. Honestly, you both look a mess and it is so unlike you. Are you quite well?
Colin’s cravat is undone, Penelope’s hair looks as though she’s just gotten out of bed and her cheeks are flushed because Eloise’s arrival interrupted their mid-afternoon passions while their child napped.
Colin: Well El… we uhh…
Penelope: It is the baby. He likes to tug his papa’s cravat and his mama’s hair.
Eloise: Of course. How silly of me.
Baby Lord Featherington wakes up and Colin quickly places him in Eloise’s arms.
Colin: Perhaps his Auntie Eloise would be so kind as to entertain him while Pen & I get presentable.
Eloise: Oh! I hardly think that’s necessary.
Colin: I insist. Penelope and I will let you enjoy some bonding time your newest nephew. We’ll be back in an hour or so.
Eloise: An HOUR?! Goodness, how long does it take you to tie a cravat?
Colin winks at Penelope because he just bought them a solid hour of alone time and before Eloise can say a word, he has taken Pen’s hand and they are off to enjoy themselves.
Eloise is nervous at first but her cherubic nephew is smiling up at her and she is quickly smitten.
Eloise: Oh you are a particularly adorable child... you have your mother’s smile and your father’s eyes… and your Auntie Eloise’s hair in a rather firm grip. Ouch!

Colin tried to tell Penelope that he would do all the work for her first time and Penelope was not having it. Sure, she wanted to know what to do, of course she did. She loves him, she wanted to please him, but she got hot when Colin took control and ordered her to lie down and I will die on that hill.
I see you Penelope “Tell me what to do. No, tell me!” Featherington-soon-to-be-Bridgerton!!!!

I am currently 100% convinced that if Cressida figures out that Penelope is Lady Whistledown, it’ll be because of Eloise’s Bridgerton’s impulsiveness & big mouth. Even though it wouldn’t entirely shock me if Eloise was only pretending to befriend Cressida specifically to upset Penelope.
I love Eloise but she is not only blind to how her actions affect others, she doesn’t bother to put herself in their shoes, despite both Daphne and Penelope outright saying this to her. She can’t seem to be bothered to consider the feelings of others or the repercussions of her actions, she does whatever she wants. It’s a big lesson I expect her to learn eventually, if only to understand why her closest friend Penelope was reluctant about sharing her secrets with her.
Eloise is a Bridgerton, she has no understanding of the money or power struggles of others because she has a wealthy, well-connected, loving and supportive if not extremely lenient family while other young ladies do not. It makes her a bit reckless and careless so being close to a viper like Cressida is a recipe for disaster.

Polin absolutely need to throw a ball, if only so we can see them come full circle from season 1 when Colin noticed baby Lord Trowbridge being fussy and jokingly asked Penelope, “do you think if he goes to bed, we all have to leave?”
I want Polin’s son, baby Lord Featherington to be the adorable little life of the party and then he falls asleep before the party is over and Polin leave to put him to bed, and they proceed to have a private little dance in his nursery.💜

The way the Bridgerton symbol is a bee in honor of Edmund and it was a bee sting that made Anthony truly vulnerable in front of Kate and led to her instinctually helping and taking care of him.
Then the storm which unsettles Kate leading her to the library where she confesses how storms effect her, and Anthony lets her borrow one of his father’s favorite books to help soothe her and they have another vulnerable moment.
Or the way that Anthony tried to give the ring Edmund gave Violet to Edwina but it wouldn’t fit her, but it fit Kate perfectly and didn’t want to come off her finger.
And how Kate’s mother’s bracelet popped off at precisely the right moment and prevented Anthony from exchanging vows with anyone but Kate!
Ugh! My heart!!! I love all the subtle ways the show has their parents who passed away giving little signs to Kanthony that they belong together.

Overthinking Colin Bridgerton’s thoughts while kissing Penelope:
Their lips touch and Colin experienced what he could only describe as the perfect kiss, and it was with Penelope Featherington.
Penelope, his friend since they were children, who was always warm, kind, witty and clever.
Penelope, who was like part of his family for years and who tried to spare his heart from her own family because she believed in love and knew he did too.
Penelope, who while she was mourning the loss of her father, wrote to him so faithfully and encouraged and made him feel seen in ways he’d never been seen before… who appreciated him so genuinely that she made him want to be the man she saw when she looked at him.
Penelope, who was certain he would find his sense of purpose in the world, because she believed in him so deeply that in her estimation, he was already astonishing and special.
He’d missed her terribly during his latest travels and the thought that she had moved on with her life and didn’t need him effected him so deeply that he needed to blaze through 17 cities seeking constant distraction in women and drinking, always pretending he was just like all those other rakishly cavalier gentlemen who didn’t want or need anyone. Then he found out Penelope had heard him disparaging her and he realized he was the reason she’d abandoned him.
Penelope would never have forsaken him if he hadn’t taken her for granted and now because she’d forgiven him and trusted him to help her, everything had gone wrong. Now she was convinced nobody would ever love her.
Penelope was the best person he knew and the best friend he had ever had, she deserved to be loved deeply and truly. She deserved to feel important and special every day. He wished he could tell her that. He would gladly tell her every day if that made her happy.
Because he wanted, no, he needed her to be happy. Because he cared about her. He always had and he knew that he always would. He had friendly affection for her since they were children, and his mother had always said friendship was the best foundation for love after all. Perhaps in a way, he’d always loved her.
But it was different now… stronger, deeper, and she was so beautiful to him. Everything about Penelope was beautiful. Her smile, her hair, her laugh.
Even now, when he could tell she’d been crying she was undeniably lovely to him and her lips were so soft. He couldn’t have pulled away from her if his life depended on it. He never wanted to stop kissing her. Ever. He’d happily touch her cheek and have her in his arms for the rest of his life.
He would be so lucky to have her by his side. He would love her the way she deserved and she would be such a good wife, a devoted companion and they would laugh and kiss and life would be good. His children would have an excellent mother.
Building a life with Penelope suddenly felt like a dream. Because if he could belong to her and give her his heart and if she gave him even a little bit of her love, Colin knew it would guarantee his happiness forever.
But he could never expect her to return his feelings now. Not when she’d heard him say he’d never court her. Not after he’d so callously humiliated and hurt her. Even in trying to make things right, he’d made things worse and now she was despondent and felt hopeless and alone. He had caused her pain. He didn’t deserve her and he had no one to blame for that but himself.
Their kiss ended and Colin spent the rest of the night and the entire following week looking back on his relationship with Penelope, thinking himself a fool, and hoping that when he closed his eyes at night he’d be lucky enough to have her love him in his dreams.

Something about this admission taking place by itself, and not in the midst of the LW reveal or afterwards when it could have been misinterpreted as a lie or an attempt at manipulation makes it better.
Penelope’s standing in a church, before Colin and god, in bright daylight admitting that she has always loved him, even when he was oblivious to her feelings and she was sure he would never choose or want her, makes it feel somehow truer and more meaningful.
Colin’s insecure nature immediately kicks in and he basically vows right then and there, to spend his life striving to be worthy of her love and it is so sweet, but the way Penelope sincerely tells him that the fact that he’s chosen to love her is enough to make her happy for the rest of her life, is simply gorgeous.
I love this scene.

Penelope: Oh thank goodness, Colin, you are back! Come quickly, please soothe our poor child and sing something to him.
Colin: What is wrong with the baby? Why is he holding his ears? Is he alright? Shall I call a doctor?
Penelope: A doctor will not ease this particular suffering, I’m afraid.
Colin: What happened?
Penelope: Prudence is in town. She just left but while she visited, she decided to sing to her handsome nephew.
Colin: Oh, God. His little ears!
Penelope: I know, it was torture. But she was so happy to entertain him that it would have been cruel to deny her… but her voice.
Colin: I remember.
Penelope: No Colin. She has… I did not think it possible, but she has somehow gotten worse. I cringe at the mere memory, please have mercy and make it stop.
Colin: Of course, my love. Let us get to the piano at once.

Book Colin Bridgerton friendzones Penelope for a decade but after kissing her once, he’s so gone for her that literally the next time they’re alone he’s making up for lost time and has her topless, laid out on the back seat of a carriage with one of her breasts in his mouth and he’s climbed on top of her talking about wanting to sink into her and never letter her go…
Shondaland, I love you but season 3 cannot get near fast enough.
We need to see the carriage scene you’re giving us.
I know, know: we’re not ready.
We may never be ready and yet, I assure you, WE ARE READY.

Find someone who loves the real you, not just the parts of you that you’re willing to reveal, but all of you, good and bad. Someone who wants you to have whatever you truly need to find peace. Someone who loves you enough to want your happiness even if it makes things complicated. Someone who wants to soothe your soul.
I CARE NOT FOR HIS SANITY. I CARE FOR HIS HAPPINESS. I CARE FOR HIS SOUL. LET HIM BE MAD IF MAD IS WHAT HE NEEDS.
