“Pen.”
“Colin. I did not know you would be here.”
“Sorry to disappoint. Have you seen Miss Thompson?”
“She is ill. My mama had to stay home with her. Papa had to chaperone. I’m quite enjoying the fact that he is here. Mama would never allow me to wear a dress like this. No, uh, yellow enough, I think.”
“Mr.Bridgerton. I believe you owe me a dance this evening. And I have only one more space remaining on my card at present.”
“How convenient.”
“Penelope, I did not see you there.”
“I’m afraid I cannot offer you that dance, Miss Cowper. I am to escort Miss Featherington to the floor.”

I am currently 100% convinced that if Cressida figures out that Penelope is Lady Whistledown, it’ll be because of Eloise’s Bridgerton’s impulsiveness & big mouth. Even though it wouldn’t entirely shock me if Eloise was only pretending to befriend Cressida specifically to upset Penelope.
I love Eloise but she is not only blind to how her actions affect others, she doesn’t bother to put herself in their shoes, despite both Daphne and Penelope outright saying this to her. She can’t seem to be bothered to consider the feelings of others or the repercussions of her actions, she does whatever she wants. It’s a big lesson I expect her to learn eventually, if only to understand why her closest friend Penelope was reluctant about sharing her secrets with her.
Eloise is a Bridgerton, she has no understanding of the money or power struggles of others because she has a wealthy, well-connected, loving and supportive if not extremely lenient family while other young ladies do not. It makes her a bit reckless and careless so being close to a viper like Cressida is a recipe for disaster.

Tired: Colin knew how to unclasp Cressida’s necklace because he’s been raking it up across the continent on his trips.
Wired: Colin knew how to unclasp Cressida’s necklace because he’s a mama’s boy and always helps Violet with her tricky jewelry when she’s tipsy.

I love the clear distinction between how Penelope and Cressida dress for their third season in London.
Look at these fits. She's physically trying to take up more space. Her hair is big, her sleeves are Dramatic. She always had the attention of the Ton but it wasn't enough so she needs to gain more. So she dresses in "you can't miss me even if you tried" outfits.
Penelope places the same amount of crucial importance on the way she looks. She fits in with the Bridgertons perfectly. Soft and classy, she's wearing pastels a sparkles and mostly monochromatic or two-color outfits. Her curls are looser, they frame her face perfectly. A shocking difference from her previous look.
Interestingly, while they both look good and eye-catching, it's not enough. (Cressida is a bitch, but she can rock feathers). Penelope is still a wallflower, and Cressida is still losing the attention war to a Bridgerton™ romance. It's other things that matter more, and they are going to have a wildly different opinion on what those other things actually are.

Bridgerton plot-twist. Cressida is such a bitch because she's a lesbian with comphet and a controlling mother and she and Eloise are gonna kiss. In this essay I will...

Okay what the hell we're all disturbed about the Eloise and Cressida friendship thing but don't fucking use it as a reason to hate on Eloise, okay????? Especially if you're also a Penelope stan. Like it's so hypocritical to love one girl for being messy and mean and morally gray sometimes, but you hate another girl for the exact same reasons? Go to fucking hell!
Y'all keep saying you want more evil women in fiction and then you can't even handle teenagers being petty and stupid after an intense friendship breakup smh
