TSR Downloader by Xientra
Writeup for non-computer people from a semi-computer person (me) Everything done using Windows bc I'm on Windows but it should all pretty much be analogous on a mac (I can't guarantee it but. yknow) Thanks to @cristalviper for putting me onto this this will make my quality of life much better Without further ado:
What you'll need:
- python (if you don't have python installed, you can get it here: https://www.python.org/downloads/) just download it and click the file the same way you always install things - the code from here: https://github.com/Xientraa/The-Sims-Resource-Downloader Easiest way to get it if you don't really know what's going on and it kinda scares you:
Tumblr media
Click the green button that says Code and then Download ZIP.
Now put the downloaded zip file somewhere and unzip it.
Inside there's a file called config (or config.json, depending on your settings). You can open it with notepad.
inside it looks like this:
Tumblr media
Pick a place where you'll want your downloaded files to go. I made a folder called tsr in my downloads. Copy the path to it (if you click this bar when you're in the folder it'll select the path and you can copy it)
Tumblr media
Paste that into the config file and replace these: \ with these: / so you get something like this:
Tumblr media
Save the file. You can change the maxActiveDownloads value if you want (it's how many files you'll be able to download at once)
Now the second part. Open cmd (search it here and click the first thing). You should get something like this:
Tumblr media
Now, copy the path to the unzipped folder with the code.
Tumblr media
You'll want your cmd to go to this folder. To do that, type in cd and paste your path UNLESS you have the same case I do, where your cmd is pointing to a different drive than you want it to go to (you can see in cmd I'm in C: and the folder is on my D drive) -- in this case, you need to type in cd /d and then paste the path, like this:
Tumblr media
You can see it's now in that folder. Next we're going to type in pip install -r requirements.txt and hit enter. it should start installing the libraries for python that it needs. if it fails to download something or it keeps telling you that you can update pip you can ignore it 99% of the time.
Tumblr media
if you get something like "oh noo I don't know what pip is" from your cmd it means there's something off with your python installation probably. Now, assuming we've changed the config file and installed requirements, we type in python src/main.py and hit enter. if you get an import error (first time I tried I got an error that said it tried to import something from requests and failed) look at what it's trying to import and try installing that (so in my case, I just typed in pip install requests) and then after that installs try python src/main.py again. If everything works, you might get asked to do a captcha. Type in the numbers and you should get something like this:
Tumblr media
This means the program is running! Go to TSR, find something you like and copy the URL.
I'm going to get this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so I just copy the URL and now when you look at your cmd you should see something like this:
Tumblr media
this means it's downloading your file.
Tumblr media
and once it's done...
Tumblr media
here it is in my tsr folder that I made earlier. And that's it! I hope this is somewhat coherent and helpful.

Every Glance A Step Closer
Prompt: Glances | AO3 link here. Connect with me on Twitter. Happy SS Month everyone! 🌸🍅🥗 @ssskmonth
“This one barely goes out of her laboratory. I swear to god she smells like formaline.”
“He smells like the dust and cobwebs in the library. I cannot even pronounce what he’s doing – archi…something. I just know he handles lots of old papers and books. B-o-r-i-n-g.”
“So anyway, Haruno Sakura meet Uchiha Sasuke.”
This was her one free day in her experiment period week, but she needed to steam off for a night and so she allowed her friend to tug her along for a chill night drink. What Sakura didn’t expect was to socialize with a small group of people in their year and to suffer the cold indifference of the guy in front of her.
To her another surprise, he held out a hand to her. “Hello there.” She took it, slightly conscious whether she used her formaline-cancelling hand lotion. A brief and firm shake and he quicky turned away.
“Sasuke finally speaks.”
“That hello sounded a little spicier.”
“Oh my, that hand holding definitely had some electricity.”
The cajoling and teasing finally stopped when the first round of beers came in. Local university gossip was the go-to conversation opener, from the open secret student-teacher relationships to recent couple break-ups. It eventually led to Sasuke and his list of confessions.
“I heard you turned down Mio from fashion design department.”
“No way. I heard she was approached by Celine for a gig.”
“Really Sasuke? That makes her the fifth girl you dumped for this week alone.”
“You never actually had a girlfriend, did you?”
Sakura stared at him doe-eyed, genuinely curious of his answer. He returned her gaze and raised one brow. “I have high standards.”
Oh wow, what a douche, Sakura thought. Hoots erupted in their table but only for a few seconds. While the drinking and the exchanges went on, Sakura found herself wanting to go home early. She was bored and her neck was tired from not looking at him. Under the guise of stretching her already strained neck, she stole a glance, hoping to have a brief moment to take in all of his features and remember his face.
But he was already looking at her. His eyes went to the door of the restaurant then back to her. Bored? He mouthed.
Sakura looked at the door, knowing perfectly what he meant. She chugged her supposedly last bottle of beer and made a small gap with her thumb and index finger. He caught her signal and started to stand up. Their group was tipsy enough not to notice their sudden movements as they shuffled out of the door.
She halted after a few steps, Sasuke’s figure already paces in front of her, wondering whether she should say goodbye or just walk towards the opposite direction back to her apartment. She didn’t think too much of it and quickly chose the latter.
She had to get ice cream first though, a sugar rush to help jolt her senses awake. She was choosing between chocolate and strawberry when a large figure stood beside her.
“A vanilla one, please,” Sasuke said, looking smug with his hands both in his pockets. “Your treat.”
Sakura felt weirded out by the fact that he actively kept on engaging her. His reputation preceded him, but she decided to humor him for tonight. “So library science and youre an archivist.”
“Intern archivist actually. So you actually know me.” There was arrogance in his voice that made Sakura almost choke on her ice cream.
“Process of elimination. There is no male major in our year in the History department.” She glanced at him and saw that smug look slowly transition into a slight flush of embarrassment. Cute.
“And what if it was a hobby?” Sasuke fiddled with his still unopened vanilla ice cream.
“There was a job posting in the bulletin specifically calling for Library Science students.” Their feet led them to the park still bustling with university night life and settled on a bench under the canopy of a fully bloomed dogwood tree. “See, I’m not your admirer.”
“Well, that’s a downer,” he smirked.
They talked like that for a while, fleetingly exploring related topics to their degree programs, the usual prominent teachers, the busy schedules, until Sakura finished her chocolate and strawberry popsicles. It was on her way home, finally this time, that she realized he never ate his ice cream.
--------------------------
She next saw him on their building’s rooftop with a group of friends, a piece of unsmoked cigarette in between his fingers. He quickly met her eyes, did a brief nod, and looked away. She inadvertently expected more than that but she wasn’t here for a smoke break, and it wasn’t her intention to take it further. She was here for a quick getaway from her microscope and to appreciate the city view dotted with the flowers of spring.
He kept glancing her way, however. He would be in the middle of a conversation and his eyes would stray to her, and she would catch it in her periphery, trying not to notice it. She got tired after a few repetitions of this, and the next time he glanced, she caught his gaze.
Stop it, she mouthed.
I’m bored, he mouthed back. Walk with me. His fingers mimicked the gesture, his fingers walking in the air.
She put her hands together and slightly bowed in apology. Next time, she winked at him before running back to her laboratory, a small smile painted on her lips.
--------------------------
It became like this for the next few weeks; they conversed through glances and awkward gestures whenever they were in public with their friends. When it was time to come home, they would walk in separate ways and meet again in the park under the same dogwood tree and they would converse for hours. It was mostly Sakura word-vomiting about her experiments while Sasuke would look at her with abandoned fascination.
“Stop doing that,” Sakura called him out one time.
“Stop doing what?” Sasuke asked, his ember eyes never leaving her face.
“You stare too much I feel like I’m melting.”
Sasuke made a small grunt and wore his hoodie over his head to mess with her more. He waved his hands on both sides of his face, and she immediately understood the reference of a horse having its blinders on. “Good because usually I’m the one being stared at.”
Sakura reached out to his hoodie and tightened the strings around his neck. “You’re hopeless.”
He leaned forward, almost touching her lips, his face still between her palms. “Hmm, maybe I am.”
Sakura moved away just as quickly as he moved into her personal space, a hot flush creeping to her cheeks. She hated this particular situation since blushing always made her look like a cherry tomato.
“Cute.” Sasuke apparently said his thoughts aloud because he was taken aback the moment she glanced back at him. “Cool, I said cool.”
She laughed this off just as he completely covered his face inside his hoodie.
--------------------------
She visited the basement section of the library for reference materials. Her writeup was due tomorrow and she was missing a section on historical evolution of vaccines and dosages for the viral DNA she uncovered. The small library slip in her hand, she made her way to the dimly lit rows on Biology. The shelves were twice taller than her, but there were spaces in between stacked books.
Would make it very easy to spot a ghost, Sakura chided to herself. A shadow moved along the row adjacent to the Biology section, but she dismissed this as the library staff. Her fingers traced the spines of ragged books and examined the list of recommended titles in her hand. When she raised her head, ember eyes stared back at her between the spaces of the opposite row.
Hi, Sasuke mouthed. He glanced around and seeing no one, he whispered, “Can I come over to your side?”
She found it hard to stop her grin from rising. “More eyes, the better.”
It took only a few minutes for Sasuke to find all the titles in her list, but they littered around, walking in between shelves, taking one random book and flipping its pages, stopping when they find something interesting. When heavy footfalls were heard on the stairs, Sakura inclined her head, gesturing she needed to go.
Sasuke seemed to misunderstand as he pulled her through the sleeve of her cardigan to the area further behind the room, and as the shadows grew darker, and the noise became more muted, she heard the racing beat of her heart.
Finally reaching the wall, Sasuke slumped to the floor and patted the space beside him. Sakura followed suit, consciously leaving a space between them as she was slowly becoming hyper-aware of their proximity.
“How are you faring so far? Done with the requirements?” Sasuke asked, his voice low but audible enough for her.
Sakura nodded, and after beat, rolled her eyes at him. “Shouldn’t you be out there assisting others?”
“I believe you need more immediate help.” Sasuke pulled his knees in to rest his chin on and trained his eyes on her. “Sakura.”
“Sasuke.”
The longest minute of silence hung between them, tension strung by the stare, until Sakura broke it off with her eyes shifting to the floor. “What are you doing?”
“Flirting,” he said like it’s a matter-of-fact. “This is what they usually do to me.”
“And what should I do?” She let the words roll out of her mouth, unsure why she asked, uncertain also of what he felt. She met his gaze again.
And in that moment, he just sincerely looked at her. “Flirt back.”
--------------------------
Sakura was done for the school year. She will be officially graduating in a month, and to celebrate, she went out with their group for a sem-ender discotheque clubbing. She was gonna shoot her shot for a one-night stand with literally anyone who had chemistry with her – haha she was just kidding. As this seemed to be the final cap-off to her university life, she went all out with her clothes Sakura-style – basically a boxy cropped tea, high waisted jeans, and old heels her best friend gave to her in pity.
This was actually her first club experience, but she was glad to be with veteran friends. The first few minutes inside a closed space with bass boosted, unfamiliar crowds, and lots of skinship made her very uncomfortable. Her only reprieve was the free-flowing drinks – ironically she can handle alcohol well. The disco lights would have made it difficult to spot faces, but she found him in the dark, on the corner directly across her group, his eyes already glued on her.
She wondered if he ever forgave her for scrambling out of his presence in the reference section last time, explicitly avoiding his request to flirt back. It seemed like she worried for nothing since Sasuke raised his glass to her and mouthed congratulations. She raised her glass back, resolving to mind her own business tonight. But he kept looking, a smirk etched on his beautiful face, urging her to meet him halfway.
She didn’t need to look for an excuse as her friends suddenly pulled her into the harmless mosh pit of friendly grinding. Sakura allowed herself to move to the beat, enjoying the bubble offered by the club to lose herself for a few seconds. But she kept glancing towards his direction, his eyes looking for her in the mass of bodies. At first, the glances were mischievous, like playing hide-and-seek, then they held gravity, heavy lidded and palpable.
Sasuke was impatient, and soon enough, at her next spin on her heels, he was right behind her, his hands hovering over her arms, seeking consent to touch. Sakura turned to face him, one part shy, other parts unnerved, and she slowly encircled her arms around his neck, her eyes a definite yes. His hands went to her waist, and he brought her closer to his embrace.
“You don’t have your hoodie though,” Sakura said, a little louder over the crooning of Carly Rae Jepsen to Gimmie Love. “Someone will definitely see you.”
Sasuke closed whatever distance was between them and brought his lips to her ears. “That’s a relief then. I want to be seen with you.”
“Simp,” Sakura teased. “You’re probably expecting a confession out of me, aren’t you?” This was a long time coming and she wanted to get it over with tonight especially when she had alcohol buzzing on her side.
“I am actually,” Sasuke said. “I was hoping to beat you to it in the library last time, but you ran away. Coward.”
“What?”
“What? Didn’t you hear me?”
“You like me.” Sakura said in realization. She edged her face away from his hold to take a good look at his embarrassed face. “Oh, you really do.”
“You could be dense sometimes, Sakura.” Sasuke poked her forehead playfully, and he was rewarded with a bubbly laughter from her.
Their friends finally noticed them and the intense skinship happening. The yells and woots started to drown out the speakers.
“That took you two long enough, huh?”
“They really waited for the end of the school year to do their big reveal.”
“As if the whole school doesn’t know already.”
“What?” Sasuke and Sakura asked in unison.
“It was the constant eyesmex.”
“Really, they do it every time with no shame. It gives me secondhand embarrassment.”
“Right? Sometimes I think I need to yell get a room.”
“Maybe they’ll get a room tonight.”
“Oh my god, shut up."
🌸 It's my first time participating actively for SS Month so please go easy on me haha. Work is loosely inspired by Nevertheless webtoon (which now has a Netflix adaptation). Hope you enjoyed reading!

26 QUESTIONS TAG
Tagged by @the-ryan-oceros
A) What is your favourite number? - 8
B) Who is your favourite actress? - Jenna Coleman or Cate Blanchett
C) Who is your favourite actor? - Keanu Reeves or Michael Fassbender
D) Last book you read? - I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett
E) Do you have any kinks? - Hell yeah.
F) What is your ideal first date? - Something simple like a cafe or something where we can just talk.
G) What is your favourite animal? - Cats! But seals are a close second along with capybaras.
H) Does your favourite music artist perform your top three favourite songs? - I don’t really believe in having a favourite music artist or even songs. I feel like if I say X is my favourite, then I’m neglecting Y and so on.
I) What is your current “Don’t judge me” song? - I’m not ashamed of my music tastes but I guess most people would “judge” me for loving Carly Rae Jepsen.
J) How would you feel if you found yourself in the world of the last movie you watched? - I can’t remember the last movie I watched. It’s been a few weeks.
K)  Great news! Travel to another solar system is possible! However, you’d need to be in cyrosleep and when you woke, 4,000 years will have passed. Would you go? - In a heartbeat. Throw me in the snooze chamber and wake me up when we get where we’re going. As long as some Event Horizon shit doesn’t go down, I’d be happy.
L) What is your favourite entertainment medium? - Video games; I spend probably 90% of my waking time either playing games, talking/thinking about games or watching someone else play games.
M) Who is your favourite Superman actor? - I dislike Superman but if I have to pick, I’ll say George Newbern. He was Supe’s VA in the 2001 Justice League show.
N) If the Force were real and you were Force sensitive, would you be Jedi, Sith or Grey? - Grey. The Sith have always been fundamentally flawed, both pre and post Rule of Two. The Jedi are on the opposite side of the spectrum but they’re still just as flawed if not moreso. I could go on for days about the Star Wars EU but that’s not what this post is for.
O) Do you think Augmented Reality or Virtual Reality is cooler? - Meh, I think both are gimmicky in their current state. Maybe in a decade, VR will be something more...tangible? IDK
P) What is your favourite technology invented - or gained widespread use - in your lifetime? - Yeah I’m pretty sure every person who does this on Tumblr is going to say the internet. Dumb question.
Q) What is your greatest fear? - Open and deep water.
R) If you were a tree, what kind would you be? - Aspen.
S) What is your desktop/laptop/mobile background? - On desktop I have a program that changes my wallpapers every 10 minutes, pulling images from a dedicated folder. On my phone it’s the cover to F♯ A♯ ∞ by Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
T) What are your personal thoughts on feminism? - All for it. Silly question but I guess it helps to ask it so you can weed out the fuccbois.
U) Do you have anon asks on? - Pretty sure I do. I never get any but they’re turned on.
V) Why did you choose your url for your blog? - It’s based on a writeup on Everything2 by an author that I really dig. Link is here. I’ve always meant to change it but I can’t ever think of anything that I would stick with.
W) Which do you think would be a more epic invention: Turbolasers, photon torpedos, or Railguns? - Railguns since they’re already around.
X) What is your biggest pet peeve? - If we’re talking petty shit then I hate when people talk with their mouth full or smack. If we’re talking about real shit then... Is there a term for refusing to put yourself in someone elses shoes? Lack of empathy? IDK
Y) Name something you wish more people knew about. - My blog. No really though probably just the issues that trans people face. Or maybe torrenting.
Z) What is your favourite kind of panties? - Do garter belts count? Probably not, huh? Whatever’s comfortable then I guess.
I’m not going to bother tagging anyone because no one does it when I tag them. So there ya go @the-ryan-oceros

I've left Christianity for the final time. Fuck hateful hipster non-denominational churches with their hidden anti-woman/anti-LGBTQ agendas. via /r/atheism
Submitted January 04, 2020 at 09:44PM by Creepy-Party (Via reddit https://ift.tt/2MXe2St) I've left Christianity for the final time. Fuck hateful hipster non-denominational churches with their hidden anti-woman/anti-LGBTQ agendas.
This is going to be a long post that I have rewritten over and over without posting. I feel that this could possibly help someone not make the mistakes I made.
I'm a 37 year old white American male.  I was in the Catholic church from when I was born until I was 18.  I went to Catholic school for middle and high school.  I despised everything about the church: Hiding pedophile priests, judging everyone as being awful, being anti-woman and anti-gay, demonizing pro-choice, etc.  Nothing they taught made any sense and I became an atheist when I graduated high school.  I came out as bi-sexual several years later.  I had always knew I wasn't straight and had to hide it during my teenage years.
My 20's were an awakening both sexually and with the people I associated with.  We partied hard, and I had a number of really good things and really bad things happen during this time in my life.  Most of us were fucked by the recession and I developed an addiction to Xanax to cope with the constant layoffs and shitty dead-end jobs. When I turned 30, in 2013, I had a nervous breakdown and was in and out of hospitals.  I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder.  Many of my friends overdosed or moved away.  I was alone for the first time in many years.
During this time, I had seen an advertisement online for a new nondenominational Christian church that was launching near me; one that was not held in a standard church setting but in a local reception hall.  I went to their launch service and found it was mostly comprised of people my age, had a live band, and was so much different than any service I had ever been to.  It was one of the non-denominational hipster churches that have grown exponentially over the past decade.  The people seemed to be really caring, and I made a number of friends in the church.  I also was referred to AA and NA and got clean in 2014.  I've since been working my way through college and am currently in graduate school.  I am grateful to these people and organizations for helping me through this rough time. I was also beginning to relate to some of the good things the bible had, though much of the awful shit in there I could never get behind.
In the summer of 2015, I found (after numerous months of digging through various sources) that the church I was a member of was funded by a Baptist group and they had strict guidelines against women and LGBTQ people in terms of how they could and could not serve in the church.  I was furious and met with the pastors about this, and they confirmed that their funding was dependent on these Baptist beliefs and that the pastors all agreed with these views.
This really sucked and I left that church.  I felt hurt, misled, and angry.  I decided that I wanted to branch out and that I did not want to leave Christianity yet - the 12-step groups I was a member of were heavily based on Christian beliefs and I found numerous churches in my area that were LGBTQ affirming.
From 2016-2019 it was one let down after another.  I would go to a LGBTQ affirming church for a few months and they would either be small and lack any type of fellowship, or super big and lacking any fellowship.  It was difficult to meet anyone my age and they didn't really do much outside of the weekly service. I don't have or want kids, and that runs counter to most Christians. I helped with a church launch for a year only to find it filled with ultra-conservative bigoted Trump supporters when it finally launched.  One of my friends in the LGBTQ community was at an Episcopal church, and while I appreciated their pro-LGBTQ stance, it was just Catholic church lite and I could not get behind them for the horrible things the Catholic church has done.
The 12-step groups also just sucked after awhile.  There were sex-offenders and other creeps in many of the groups and the people running the groups didn't want to do anything about it.  There is a really eye-opening documentary about this called 13th Step - Google search it and there is a free version to watch on a site called tubi.tv .  I've never relapsed on Xanax and left 12-step groups over a year ago. The caste system they have based solely on clean-time is disgusting - some guy can lie about having years clean and get sponsees who are brand new to the program and can be manipulated for money, sex, and other things.
Last summer, I found another hipster non-denominational church and decided to stop in. This was it, this was the last chance I was giving Christianity.  I was surprised to hear that they were having a topic group/small group on LGBTQ issues that was starting in a few days.  I signed up for it and it was about 25 people in one of the member's houses.
We began the group and they explained that they were a "B" view church with LGBTQ issues and were Egalitarian regarding woman's issues.  What this means is that they were fully affirming of women and there were no limitations on how women could serve in the church.  While that was cool, and resolved one half of what made me leave the original church I was a member of back in 2013, their "B" view meant the following with LGBTQ issues:
Group "A" Christian churches are fully affirming of LGBTQ people.  They will do gay weddings, there is no limitations on gay people, etc.
Group "X" Christian churches are fully excluding of LGBTQ people.  These are churches who flat-out do not want any LGBTQ people at their church and are vocal about this, they do not hide their disdain for the gay community.
Group "B" Christian churches will allow LGBTQ people in, but will not allow them to serve in all capacities in the church unless they are fully celibate or are in a relationship with someone of the opposite gender.  Even if a gay or lesbian couple was married in a Christian church and totally monogamous, their marriage would not be recognized in a "B" church.
I was not surprised, but I was surprised when they showed a terrible Evangelical propaganda video trying to say that LGBTQ people could go back to being straight or should remain celibate.  Looking back, I should have just left, but I stuck around and when we discussed the video I didn't hold anything back.  I told them how hurtful it was, how mean and shitty it was for straight people to constantly tell LGBTQ people that they should just stop being gay.  I was on the verge of tears, but kept it together.  I was one of only two gay people there, the other person saying they were trying to remain celibate and I told them that I loved them for who they were and that if these people cared about them, they would love them for who they are as well.
To my surprise, people listened.  One of the pastors cried and stated how sorry she was about how hurtful they were being.  I began to talk to the leadership team and, to my surprise, found out that they were fully self-supporting and were not funded by any Baptist group. They were the only non-denominational church I could find that had this distinction.  This was why they voted to be fully egalitarian and had women pastors and elders.
Over the next few months, we continued this dialogue in the group and I was asked to sing with their church band, something I hadn't done in years.  I developed a good number of friends and we would usually hang out weekly outside of service.
The topic group ended in September, and sadly so did discussion on the topic. Once again it was being pushed under the rug and some of the people I was close with in the church had no problem telling me that they did not want the church to be LGBTQ affirming. This topic was brought up at a dinner we had at a person's house in October that was not an official church event, but had a large number of church people there as well as people in the community who were not religious. One of the pastors was there and I asked why they were holding on to these views, why was it so important for them to continue to be anti-LGBTQ? Why could they be egalitarian yet at the same time use the bible to support their anti-LGBTQ rhetoric when the bible is notoriously sexist against women and treats them as property? It was a heated conversation and the pastor sent me a text later accusing me of "trying to undermine" the church. I met with him and his brother (another pastor there) and I tried to get them to understand why their views were so hurtful, but it appeared we were at an impasse.
The final service I went to back in early December, the pastor was talking about lament and prying for things people were suffering with as if he were the person. Things such as being in terrible accidents "Why did I have to be hurt in a car accident", being unable to have children "Why was I born with non working ovaries" (which is really fucked up for this dude to say as it is not a terrible thing for everyone and he could never understand this lament), and finally:
"Why was I born attracted to people of my own gender"?
That was the final straw. I yelled out at him "There is nothing wrong with being gay, and you don't need to pray it away". I left, did a writeup on their Slack Channel about their hidden LGBTQ policies and how they were trying to get people to change back to being straight, and it was awful. A gay guy replied that he "Struggled" with "Same-sex attraction" and I replied that he should not have to struggle with this and that I love him for who he is and so should this church if they care about him.
And that was it. There were people replying numerous views on the issue (and to their credit they didn't delete the thread), but I logged out and was done. I've found a cool group of people in my area who are all atheist and have gone through similar things. I'm accepted for who I am and don't have to try to be something I'm not.
I hope that this can help someone from wasting their time with hoping that Christianity can change. It won't. It will always create out groups for them to hate and is a cancer on our lives. I don't want any "prayers" as I know may Christians browse this subreddit in an attempt to try and "save" people. If you are a Christian on here and care, then try to make a difference; stop cosigning on bigotry so that you can feel better about yourself. Call out the bullshit in your church. Stop letting a hateful 2000 year old book keep having power in the oppression and hated of so many people.
Thanks for reading.

Hey - Pat from StarterStory.com here with another interview.Today's interview is with James Reina + Davis Harari of The Nut Button, a brand that sells the nut buttonSome stats:Product: The Nut ButtonRevenue/mo: $13,500Started: September 2017Location: BrooklynFounders: 2Employees: 0Hello! Who are you and what business did you start? We’re Davis Harari and James Reina and we’re the co-founders of The Nut Button. So, what is The Nut Button? Our core product is a push button toy based off of the popular “NUT” meme. Our success is largely due to the inherently viral nature of the product - when people see a funny meme, they want to share it with their friends.Likewise, when customers purchase our button, they take pictures/videos of it and show it off to their friends. This makes advertising extremely simple for us — up until recently, we spent close to nothing on marketing, as our customers were our built-in marketing team.We know that this is a “dumb” product - however, our approach to the company is anything but. We’re currently operating at a 65% profit margin and are on pace to do a little over $200,000 in sales in 2019, 75% of which is passively through Amazon FBA.What's your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?Davis:I thought of this product while interning before my senior year of college. I was in a meme group chat with some friends - and everyone thought the nut meme was hysterical.the memeIf you want to learn about the history of the meme, you can read about its origin here.I thought it was funny too, and I thought it’d be amazing to buy a real life nut button. After doing some research online, I realized that nobody had manufactured a nut button yet. I called James, and after a 10-minute call, we decided we had to try to make the meme a reality.Prior to The Nut Button, neither James or I had any Amazon FBA or e-Commerce experience. I’ve been reselling concert tickets and sneakers since I was 13, so I was confident in my entrepreneurial abilities.James had opened a pop-up coffee shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that summer, so I thought he would have a similar mindset in regards to a “get-it-done” execution on the concept.Take us through the process of designing, prototyping, and manufacturing your first product.James:We knew Alibaba was going to be the place to source something like this, so we started scouting a “sound button manufacturer” (that was the verbatim search term), and sent an inquiry to basically every vendor there. It’s such a simple product that we weren’t super worried about quality — we valued communication and price over all else, with the intention of building a lasting relationship with our supplier. We weeded out 80% of vendors on that criteria alone since there was a massive language barrier with most Chinese suppliers. With the few remaining, we negotiated a price in broken English, closed a good deal, and 1,000 nut buttons were at my doorstep about a month later. I still remember cutting into the first box, and feeling a mix of excitement and extreme self-doubt (I think that mix means you’re on to something). We weren’t 100% confident that this was going to work, but we broke down the pros and cons like thisHere’s why we thought it might work:The marketing was already done, but the product wasn’t there. By that, I mean there were millions of shares/views of our soon-to-be-product by way of the meme, and brand recognition was there. Also, the risk was only $1,250 each for first 1,000 units (minimum order quantity). And our upside was about $4,000 each. Here’s why we thought it might NOT work:The fact that it’s an outdated//irrelevant meme. And we have zero eCommerce experienceThe juice was worth the squeeze, we figured — and if we failed, we could just hand them out on the street or at school for fun.Legal ProtectionWe also realized that this product would be super easy for a big fish to produce themselves and undercut us. So we spent a good amount in the beginning on legal fees, trademarks, and IP protection to protect us down the road.Spending about a thousand bucks on LegalZoom for years of trademark protection was definitely worth it.Describe the process of launching the business.Davis:James had some experience with designing websites so we purchased our website URL and began working on our site with Squarespace. The below photo is a screengrab from our redesigned site, hosted with Shopify. From there, we began running Facebook and Instagram ads with a $10 per day budget... Which failed miserably in the beginning because we had no idea what we were doing with Facebook ads at the time. Our conversions were under 1% but hey, it was a learning experience. In terms of creating an online presence - our plan was established from the start. The product is inherently viral - people send funny memes to their friends. We planned to rely on our customers in order to build and maintain our online presence. In order to fund the first few batches, we both dipped into our personal savings. We had decent liquidity/starting capital for college students, as I was very active with buying and reselling concert tickets and James opened up a pop-up coffee shop called Devil Spit Coffee in Brooklyn that summer. In the first month of going live, we had sold a whopping 8 units. We looked into opening other distribution channels, and decided to ship out a few hundred units into Amazon FBA.We started selling 4-5 a day, but we knew that we had barely scratched the surface of The Nut Button’s potential. Out of the blue, our sales suddenly spiked to 30-40 per day.James and I found that someone had posted a video of a dog playing with a Nut Button on their Tumblr account, and it had garnered hundreds of thousands of notes. That was just the beginning though - that video then got reposted by Barstool Sports, which exposed the Nut Button to millions of people. The day that it was posted, we sold well over 100 units, and rode that momentum straight through the holiday season.Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?James:So one of the most beautiful things about The Nut Button is that it’s inherently viral. In fact, most of the marketing and brand recognition was done before we even made the product. In the first year of our products life, we spent a meager $100 dollars on marketing and advertising (which maybe was a mistake, but we’ll touch on that later) — yet brought in over $100,000 in sales. Our customers are our marketing team. Almost everyone who buys The Nut Button will post it on their SnapChat, Instagram, Facebook, bring it to class, show their friends, etc… They’re doing it all for us — so to any Nut Button owner reading this now, thanks for that :).In terms of customer retention, we expanded our SKU line through Print on Demand services like Printify and Printful, which allow us to offer Nut merch at zero risk to us.Armed with MailChimp and an email list of a few thousand subscribers, we were able to squeeze some revenue out of existing customers, and are positioned for more merch sales down the road. One thing that I haven’t spent too much time talking about is Amazon FBA: where we see 75% of our total revenue. FBA has been a godsend and is what makes our business passive income. We send most of our inventory directly from China to Amazon warehouses, and they uncrate, repack, and fulfill every order from their site. Last month we did about $11,000 in sales from Amazon, and around $3,000 from our Website. Around the holiday season, we’ve seen our Amazon sales boost to a peak $45,000 within a 30-day period — crazy.Around four months ago I thought it would be fun to do a writeup on r/entrepreneur, — a subreddit with over 537k subscribers, and one that inspired me early on. The post (which you can read here) was well received within the community and is currently the 4th most popular post of the year, and 12th most popular post of all time. About a month later, I got a message from a CNBC reporter who read the article and he asked to interview us for CNBC’s Make It column. This was our “mama we made it moment” and it was super legitimizing to see ourselves getting real recognition — not to mention it made our parents a bit more OK with us not having “real” jobs. We didn’t see the CNBC article affect our sales too much (their readers don’t align with our target audience), but it was a proud moment for both of us.How are you doing today and what does the future look like?Davis:There are a few things to note about our business today, and what we can see ahead. We’ve increased our profit margins from around ~40% to over 60% This is due to utilizing economies of scale (placing larger orders from our supplier), and Amazon accepting us to their Small and Light program, which reduced our overall FBA fees by 18.5%.Our sales from our website have exponentially increased since switching from SquareSpace to Shopify. In the past 30 days, we have done $2657.28 in sales through our Shopify store, which almost matches our total sales for Q1 + Q2 of 2018.The Nut Button is still experiencing growth. Shopify has enabled us to ship worldwide, we’ve entered 5 more countries through Amazon FBA EU, and our domestic FBA revenue has increased when compared to Q1 2018, and our profit margins are still growing. We are open to selling equity in the company for the right price. Feel free to reach out with any questions!Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?James:Oh man there is so much to answer here. As my old man always says, “once you’re done with a job, you know how to do it.”Every step in building The Nut Button has been a learning experience (and still is), and there are a thousand things I wish we did right off the bat. For starters, we built our store on SquareSpace — which is such a less robust eCommerce platform vs. Shopify. We migrated only a few months ago, but have seen a substantial increase in revenue, customer retention, and ability to track our site analytics for marketing efforts. The extra tools and apps available via Shopify turned our simple little site into a proper storefront.Email and SMS abandoned cart recovery automation alone have reclaimed 6% of lost sales. The ability to use POD integrations like Printify and Printful have allowed us to expand our SKUs to shirts, hats, mugs, and even a $250 bean bag (eloquently dubbed “the Nut Sack) — at essentially zero risk to us. Allowing user reviews for our products have helped add social proof, and some pretty comical reviews have come out of it.I could go on and on about things we’ve learned — but to list a few more.Testing different product pricesWe found The Nut Button demand to be inelastic; when we raised our price to $14.99 (from $11.99) our unit sales stayed roughly the same while overall revenue increased 25%.Continued negotiation with our suppliersOur landed product cost is down over 100% since our first order of 1,000 units because we have maintained an excellent relationship with our suppliers, and are not afraid to continue negotiating with them. In fact, we just visited the factory in China earlier this year!Start social media engagement early on.We basically ignored all forms of social media management for the first year and a half, because it was a daunting task. However, in the past few weeks, we’ve grown an Instagram to around 7,000 followers and have gotten tons of free advertising and engagement via shares of our posts.Amazon reviewFrom left to right, James, Davis, Rosie the factory boss, Jack (our Intern at the time)Amazon sales screenshotHere’s a screenshot of our Amazon FBA store from this past holiday season! We peaked at $41,500 (at a 62% margin) in a 30 day period. What platform/tools do you use for your business?Sales Platform: ShopifyEmail Marketing and Abandoned Cart Recovery: Conversio + MailchimpSMS Recovery: SMS Bump (doesn’t get too many sales but the ROI is insane, ours is 1194.31%)Email Capture: PrivyPOD: Printify and PrintfulFulfillment: ShipStation, FBAWhat have been the most influential books, podcasts, or other resources?Davis:My biggest inspiration for The Nut Button are the people who initially told me that it was the dumbest idea that they had ever heard and that we wouldn’t sell any of them. Thankfully, over 20,000 customers (and counting) beg to differ.Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting out?Davis:The most important thing is to start working. Obviously, have a game plan for your proposed business, but talking about an idea only goes so far. As an entrepreneur, you’re not going to know how to do everything perfectly at first, but trial and error is necessary. We’re living in 2019. The amount of resources online that you can utilize is unfamothable. Stay on top of market trends and figure out how you can apply them to your business. Before we placed our first order, I asked some friends what they thought of the product/concept. It was generally received positively - however, there were more than a few people who told us to our face that it was the dumbest idea ever. Self doubt is healthy and normal, however the ability to tune out negative energy is an essential trait for anyone looking to be an entrepreneur. Are you looking to hire for certain positions right now?Right now we aren’t looking to hire. However, if you think you can add value to The Nut Button, feel free to reach out to us! We’re always down to toss a free nut button or gear to someone with a large social media following.Where can we go to learn more?https://thenutbutton.com/InstagramIn the news:CNBCRedditIf you have any questions or comments, drop a comment below!Liked this text interview? Patch Tuesday, December 2018 Edition
Adobe and Microsoft each released updates today to tackle critical security weaknesses in their software. Microsoft’s December patch batch is relatively light, addressing more than three dozen vulnerabilities in Windows and related applications. Adobe has issued security fixes for its Acrobat and PDF Reader products, and has a patch for yet another zero-day flaw in Flash Player that is already being exploited in the wild.
At least nine of the bugs in the Microsoft patches address flaws the company deems “critical,” meaning they can be exploited by malware or ne’er-do-wells to install malicious software with little or no help from users, save for perhaps browsing to a hacked or booby-trapped site.
Microsoft patched a zero-day flaw that is already being exploited (CVE-2018-8611) and allows an attacker to elevate their privileges on a host system. The weakness, which is present on all support versions of Windows, is tagged tagged with the less severe “important” rating by Microsoft mainly because it requires an attacker to be logged on to the system first.
According to security firm Rapid7, other notable vulnerabilities this month are in Internet Explorer (CVE-2018-8631) and Edge (CVE-2018-8624), both of which Microsoft considers most likely to be exploited. Similarly, CVE-2018-8628 is flaw in all supported versions of PowerPoint which is also likely to be used by attackers.
It generally can’t hurt for Windows users to wait a day or two after Microsoft releases monthly security updates before installing the fixes; occasionally buggy patches can cause serious headaches for users who install them before all the kinks are worked out. Also, it’s a good idea to get in the habit of backing up your data before installing Windows updates.
Windows 10 likes to install patches all in one go and reboot your computer on its own schedule. Microsoft doesn’t make it easy for Windows 10 users to change this setting, but it is possible. For all other Windows OS users, if you’d rather be alerted to new updates when they’re available so you can choose when to install them, there’s a setting for that in Windows Update.
For its part, Adobe’s got new versions of Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat that plug dozens of security holes in the programs. Also, last week Adobe issued an emergency patch to fix a zero-day flaw in Flash Player that bad guys are now using in active attacks.
Fortunately, the most popular Web browser by a long shot — Google Chrome — auto-updates Flash but also is now making users explicitly enable Flash every time they want to use it (Microsoft also bundles Flash with IE/Edge and updates it whenever Windows systems install monthly updates). By the summer of 2019 Google will make Chrome users go into their settings to enable it every time they want to run it.
Firefox also forces users with the Flash add-on installed to click in order to play Flash content; instructions for disabling or removing Flash from Firefox are here. Adobe will stop supporting Flash at the end of 2020.
As always, if you experience any problems installing any of these patches this month, please feel free to leave a comment about it below; there’s a good chance other readers have experienced the same and may even chime in here with some helpful tips.

2 Year Update From Old /r/bodybuilding Post (19/6'4"/217)
ORIGINAL POST Two years ago I posted a writeup with pictures of my "shredded" body for you all to see (and critique). I was 6'4" and about 180 lbs soaking wet, I was in that stage of lifting where I was starting to grow and felt HUGE. Unfortunately my post backfired a little worse than I thought it would, I said I as eating 5-7k calories a day and was a lot stronger than I actually was. I was called out almost immediately, but thanks to the Nice GuysTM I wasn't completely shit on. /u/justin5rb (RIP) helped me really understand that I wasn't even close to eating what I thought I was consuming in a day. But thanks to my hurt ego I deleted the post and all pictures of my sad physique that accompanied the post. Here's the deleted link and you can get the idea of what went down. http://bit.ly/2jePpjT
Here I am in full "SHREDDED" mode: http://bit.ly/2is1XHE
BULKING I took all advice to heart and decided to bulk my insecurities away. I started by just wanting to gain some weight and a little size, but I started to go down a slippery slope. I heard about a wonderful program called Smolov and decided to increase my shitty squat. During this program all I did was eat "clean" foods in massive quantities, ending every night eating 1.5 cups of peanut butter so I didn't go catabolic overnight. I quickly shot up weight in both my squat, and body. I finished smolov with a bodyweight of 220 (40lb bulk) and a squat of 405 (previously 315). I planned on stopping there, but then I was asked by the head coach of our football team to play my senior year. They wanted me to play offensive line, so of course I had to gain more weight. I ended my now dreamer bulk right before I started football practice, weighing 250lbs. I gained almost 70 lbs in a little less than 3/4 of a year.
Post bulk fatness (only two pictures I could find): http://bit.ly/2is4iCz
CUT I never went through a cut because I was lucky enough that all of the cardio we did in football helped me lose weight. I was holding so much water that the moment summer conditioning stated, I dropped down 20lbs of water weight to a bodyweight of 230lbs. I gradually lost a pound or two a week until the end of the season, weighing in at a small 200lbs. I decided to keep that weight through the spring and summer just so I could be a little leaner than the previous year.
BULK ROUND TWO I started going to college this year and have tried to take full advantage of the "All you can eat" buffets. Starting at 200lbs at the end of August, I have gained roughly 17 lbs since then. I am definitely happier than my first bulk because I didn't gain too much body fat and put on some size.
Current Pictures (all taken within this week): http://bit.ly/2jeWMaY (sorry for quality, screenshots from a video)
TLDR: Thought I was big, wasn't. Bulked up from 180-250, got fat. Lost 50 lbs, gained back 20.
