IAF marks 2nd Balakot anniversary with long-range precision strike mission
Tumblr media
NEW DELHI: The IAF carried out a long-range precision strike mission against a practice target at Pokhran in Rajasthan to mark the second anniversary of the pre-dawn bombing of the JeM terror facility at Balakot in Pakistan on February 26 in 2019. The mission was conducted by the same Mirage-2000 fighter jet squadron that had conducted the Balakot strikes, in which five of the six designated targets were hit in the cross-border operation codenamed `Operation Bandar’ two years ago, as was earlier reported by TOI. IAF chief Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria on Saturday also flew a Mirage-2000 in a multi-aircraft sortie, which included Sukhoi-30MKI jets as well, to commemorate the occasion, said officers. The mission conducted at Pokhran, incidentally, also used the Israeli Spice-2000 precision guided penetration bombs that were used during the Balakot strikes. In 2019, backed by IL-78 mid-air refuellers and AWACS (airborne warning and control system) aircraft, the Mirage-2000 were deployed in the “strike package” against Balakot from Gwalior, Agra and Bareilly, instead of forward airbases to retain the element of surprise in the early hours of February 26 in 2019. The IAF had also simultaneously deployed “a decoy package” of Sukhoi-30MKIs ostensibly headed towards the JeM headquarters at Bahawalpur in the Punjab province to ensure Pakistani combat air patrols were lured away from the actual “strike package” meant for Balakot in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, as was then reported by TOI. The IAF had achieved its “strategic and operational aim of successfully bombing” the JeM terror facility at Balakot. But it did lose the MiG-21 being flown by Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who shot down a F-16 before he himself ejected and was captured by Pakistani forces, in the aerial skirmish in the Nowshera sector along the Line of Control a day after Operation Bandar. “Friendly fire” had also brought down a Mi-17 helicopter – which killed six IAF personnel and a civilian — at Budgam around the same time as the aerial skirmish.

India must stay prepared for a “no war, no peace” situation at LAC: Senior officer
A senior defense officer on Tuesday made a statement saying that china disrespected the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the bloody clash of Galwan Valley on June 15. The officer further stated that this LAC was unilaterally defined by China itself in 1959 and it’s a demarcation across the valleys and rivers which was never accepted by India anyway. Considering the current scenario, India is left with no option than stay prepared for a “no war, no peace” situation at the LAC with the troops deployed at the border at all times. This situation is entirely different from that along the Line of Control (LOC) with Pakistan. “China cannot be trusted. It will not back down from its strategy to continue pushing the LAC westwards,” another officer said.
Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria at a webinar on Tuesday also addressed the harsh conditions and prolonged deployment in the Eastern Ladakh region where even the enemies are gearing up at a rapid speed. It is worth addressing that the temperature in these regions can dip below 30 degree Celsius anytime.
“The present security scenario along our northern frontiers (with China) is at an uneasy ‘no war, no peace’ status. Our armed forces are prepared for any eventuality. IAF has responded with rapidity and resolve to counter any misadventure,” he said.  There are several reasons why India has little or no belief in the Indian defense establishment. Previously on June 15 the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) clearly went against the establishment when they ravaged an observation post on Indian Territory near the ‘Y-junction’ of the Shyok and Galwan rivers in the Galwan Valley.
“The Y-junction is around 800 meters to the west of our Patrolling Point-14 (PP-14),” a senior officer said. “We don’t recognize China’s 1959 claim line, which runs near PP-14. B. But even going by that, the PLA clearly violated their own claim line and transgressed around 800 meters into Indian Territory to barbarically attack our soldiers with nail-studded rods and stones,” he added.

Defence minister hands over 3 DRDO systems to chiefs of armed forces
Tumblr media
NEW DELHI: Defence minister Rajnath Singh handed over three systems developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation to chiefs of the three armed forces on Friday, said an official statement. Singh handed over the Indian maritime situational awareness system (IMSAS) to Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh at an event here, the Defence Ministry’s statement said. The IMSAS is a software system that provides global maritime situational picture, marine planning tools and analytical capabilities to the Indian Navy, the statement noted. The minister handed over the Astra Mk-1 missile system to Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria, the statement said. This missile is the first indigenously developed beyond visual range (BVR) missile that can be launched from Sukhoi-30 and other fighter aircraft. Singh handed over the Border Surveillance System (BOSS), which is an all-weather electronic surveillance system, to Army Chief General M M Naravane at the event here. All three systems–IMSAS, Astra Mk-1 and BOSS– have been designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) only, the statement said. Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik and Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat were also present at the event.
