oh jeez I hope no one gets offended here:

– D-2 (masterpiece from beginning to end. The topics he’s approached in that mixtape hit very close to home. Also I just like yoongi’s rapping (voice) the most. Interlude Set me Free changed me as a person)

– Hope World (✨Free Serotonin✨ gave me Blue Side and P.O.P and I wanna live in both songs! All of the tracks in that one are so essentially Hobi for me, it just makes me so happy and I always wanna move when I listen to it even though I hate moving lol)

– Agust D (for the anger issues!!! the last four tracks arghhh so good!! I’m a yoongi biased person first and foremost, that man could rap about potatoes and I’d still eat it up (pun intended))

[– Jack in the Box (not a mixtape anymore but I want to mention it anyway. I listen to Arson, Equal Sign and Future very regularly. The rest is okay but none of the tracks reach Hope World level for me!]

– mono (actually I really like the whole mixtape, tokyo and badbye and everythingoes are amazing, but I still don’t find myself listening to namjoon’s mixtapes often. I’m not really a huge fan of his voice I think? Still very much appreciate his lyricism, and, for this mixtape in particular, the instrumentals are spectacular)

– RM. I think I only listened to it once. There’s nothing really drawing me to it either idk /: maybe I should give it another try soon!

PERSONAL REVIEW

Each track is equally comforting and heart-wrenching as Kim Namjoon, known as RM, weaves a tapestry of depression, loneliness, and comfort. It has been stated that “these tracks are the free therapy your body, soul, and bank account collectively required to ease into whatever fresh hell this week will inevitably bring.” And, for the most part, it’s true. This mixtape is a reminder to breathe, a reminder to cry, and a reminder to feel every emotion you need to.

As someone who has dealt with depression for years, each track off of “mono.” feels like a well-deserved warm hug.

The track “moonchild”, in particular, feels as if you’re crying in your room in the dark and RM is with you telling yourself that it’s okay to do exactly what you’re doing; sitting in the dark and feeling the pain the world has brought you.

The track “everythingoes” explains to the listener that the pain and unpleasant feelings they’re currently having will eventually pass and a new day will come. It may not be as painful as yesterday, but it is a new day nonetheless. Simply uttering the phrase “지나가” has the ability to allow me to breathe. I actually got the phrase tattooed many years ago. Sadly, it has faded, but that means it has accomplished its task. It has passed.

For this album, it’s almost necessary for me to listen to it at least once a month to release all of the pent-up negative feelings withheld in my soul. Once you’re done listening to each song, it feels as if more and more weight is lifted off of your shoulders and released into the air. By the end of the album, you’re honestly left a sobbing mess, but it feels good because your pain is seen, your pain is felt, and it has passed.

BACKGROUND/HEADCANONS.

TW: Abuso de substancias ilícitas.

Chae Minjun nasceu e cresceu em Seul, Coreia do Sul. Desde jovem, ele mostrou um talento notável para a música, com paixão por composição e habilidade em diversos instrumentos. Apesar de sua natureza tímida e reservada, Minjun colocava tudo que não era capaz de expressar com palavras nas músicas que escrevia, guardando-as em seu caderno, desconhecido para todo o mundo.

À medida que Minjun foi ficando mais velho, buscou o sonho de se tornar músico, de uma maneira diferente da imaginada quando criança. Se não tinha coragem de mostrar ao mundo sobre o que escrevia, pelo menos seria capaz de mostrar seu talento de alguma forma.

Era fácil imaginar que por ser tímido, nunca se daria bem em frente as cameras, mas a realidade foi outra, o que alegrou, e muito, seus pais. Em meio as aulas de canto e dança que tanto amava, teatro também era uma de suas extracurriculares, e, com seus 15 aninhos, estreou em seu primeiro papel, mesmo que longe de ser o principal.

No entanto, nos bastidores, a realidade foi muito mais difícil que imaginava, e, próximo de seus 19 anos, após o lançamento de The Great Seducer e a decepção de não ter conseguido o papel principal, Minjun recorreu as drogas. Não sabia lidar com a pouca quantidade de papeis que havia tido até o momento, ainda mais por serem todos, no mínimo, secundários, e estar longe da música lhe incomodava. Ele manteve sua dependência em segredo, lutando contra seus demônios sozinho e nunca procurando ajuda profissional.

Demorou para perceber que aquilo seria insustentável, mas acabou percebendo que precisava fazer uma mudança. Determinado a superar sua dependência sem que ninguém soubesse que sequer aquela existia, parou de usar drogas abruptamente e enfrentou o que abstinencia jogou na sua cara. Mais do que nunca seu caderninho era tudo que lhe mantinha são, e até hoje as letras ali escritas contam o passo a passo de tudo o que viveu.

Logo que tomou essa decisão drástica, depois de mais de dois anos sem nenhum trabalho sequer, Minjun ganhou seu primeiro papel protagonista em Dali and Cocky Prince, interpretando Jin Moohak. E por mais que já esteja sóbrio a quase dois anos, não consegue se sentir vencedor ou qualquer outra dessas baboseiras que encontra online - se sente apenas um perdedor por ter sucumbido as drogas no primeiro momento.
