The handcrafted works of Rebeka Elizegi, a collage artist based in Barcelona, Spain, come in varying sizes and scopes. And much of Elizegi’s work involves the female figure, along with the topics of “generic diversity and sexual ambiguity,” according to the artist.

Collage Research
This week I came across the collage artist Rebeka Elizegi who wrote the book Collage by Women: 50 Essential Contemporary Artist. What intrigued me most about her work was her use of negative space making the images appear alive.
She is a collage artist based in Barcelona and Madrid, Spain and according to her bio, the female figure is the central focus of her work and the audiences interpretations are usually the most interesting part about her art. She also works on the idea of generic diversity and sexual ambiguity, always with surrealistic language, and allowing total freedom of interpretation to the observer.
Here is some of her work:

COLLAGE:
I wanted to look at some collage artists who combined the human body with elements of nature. My favourites of who I looked at were Klawe Rzeczy and Rebeka Elizegi, who both combine black and white with colour. By doing this they both manage to make the coloured pictures appear fresh and vibrant against the vintage black and white images. Rzeczy’s use of bubbles of red colour draws attention to certain areas of the image while still maintaining and adding to the flow of the image. Elizegi focuses more on surrounding the human head with various limbs and plants that some time resemble hair or headdresses. She combines a lot more manmade figures in her work such as shoes, type writers and jewellery. The vintage references in her work is accompanied nicely with how she choses work digitally and all of her pieces are hand made. Whilst neither artist references any objects that are considered particularly modern, they still manage to stand apart from the old fashioned style of there images through there uses of colour and composition.
