Last night, the 48 Film Project Group B screenings took place at the dazzling Regal Cinemas LA Live, and what an exhilarating cinematic event it was! The atmosphere brimmed with suspense, joy, and a collective passion for filmmaking. The entirety of the evening was both exhilarating and unforgettable. In a delightful sequence of events, I was joined by the wonderful Aidan and Joe Forte. There is something surreal about witnessing oneself on such a grand screen, and watching my 50-foot visage come alive in "Muse" was certainly a moment to cherish. Charles, the superfan villain, was truly brought to life and I could not have felt more joy about it. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire team of "Muse" for their unwavering dedication, hard work, and for making the project a grand success. Miss Skyler Poiley's direction and the combined efforts of the whole cast and crew have truly made this experience memorable. A massive shoutout to every filmmaker who showcased their talent and the essence of cinematic storytelling. Fingers are firmly crossed as we hope to be in the running for the awards. The anticipation is high! Thank you to everyone who came out and supported all the teams. Let us maintain this momentum and hope for the best in the awards announcements!

Batman v Superman
OK, I’ll cut to the chase (wish the movie would have!) - it was not as awful as I thought it would be.  That being said, it wasn’t that good either.
We saw it on Saturday, April 9th mid-afternoon.  We picked up the headset for audio description and settled in for the long movie at Regal Cinemas LA Live.  Unfortunately, before the previews started and the Regal Cinemas intro begins, I heard no audio description.  This si the point where it begins and I know we are good to go.  Well, not this time...
David ran out to switch the transmitter but was given another one set on “H” not “V”.  So, the headset worked, but just made everything louder because “H” is for “hearing”.  David missed the beginning and came back saying that none of the transmitters seem to be working and if I wanted to come back to another showing.  Um...NO!  We already made it here and I don’t feel like coming back later, plus, what if it doesn’t work then either?!
Honestly, he didn’t miss much.  Same story about Bruce Wayne as a child and falling with the bats.  Yawn...
He was just so grumpy throughout the movie, it was not fun.  I could barely understand what he said, especially as Batman.  There was a sweet, tender moment where Superman was envisioning talking to his father and it really hit home with me because I wish I could talk to my deceased father too...
Other than that, it was pretty formulaic.  The really annoying character was, Lex Luther - what an obnoxious caricature of Lex Luther!!  He was so whiney and weird - definitely not a fan of how this was written.  Just blah, blah, blah, blah...not engaged with the characters very much.
I tried to listen and understand the storyline, but again, the story was not worth getting invested in.  I guess, I had such super, low expectations that after it was over, I didn’t think it was as bad as I expected.  I wouldn’t recommend it.
When we left, we did get a free ticket to come back to watch another movie, thank you Regal Cinemas LA Live :)  Hope the audio description problems have been fixed because I’m coming back soon!

I am excited to share that the rising director, Miss Skyler Poiley, cast me in the compelling role of a superfan villain named Charles in a film registered for the esteemed 48 Hour Film Project Los Angeles. We completed principal photography recently and the team has been ardently working on post-production. The final, fully edited film is set to be submitted by 6 pm today, just in time for the competition deadline.
This project is a testament to the incredible dedication and hard work of the entire cast and crew. Each individual, both in front of and behind the camera, has made significant contributions. We have crafted an ensemble piece where each character is integral to the narrative, and every performance enriches the film.
We are part of Group B and eagerly await our film's premiere on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 9:30 pm at the renowned Regal Cinemas LA Live in Los Angeles. We are honored to have participated under the banner of Miss Poiley's production company, Skyra Entertainment.
The 48 Hour Film Project offers a wide array of awards across each participating city, with accolades for Best Film, Best Directing, Best Writing, and various acting awards. Additionally, the Best Use of Required Elements is an exciting award category that adds a unique twist to the competition.
The distinction of Best Film in each city leads to a screening at Filmapalooza 2024, the official 48HFP Awards Weekend. The winning team will also be presented a trophy at Filmapalooza in recognition of their creativity and dedication. In certain cities, additional prizes further amplify the competition's allure.
As the team is finalizing the post-production work and preparing for submission, I invite you to wish us good fortune. Remember, in this competition, may the best team win!

Sicario
Earlier this month, we went to see the movie, Sicario.  Yup, we went to our local Regal Cinemas LA Live to get the headsets with audio description.  The headset worked great but leave it to me to reach out for popcorn and knock it out of David’s hand, sigh...Well, we were able to save half of it ! ;)  Camry was so excellent and didn’t even go for a bite of popcorn, what a good gir!! :)
I didn’t know much about the movie ahead of time, so we all three settled in and wow, it was great!!  The acting was top notch and it kept me tense throughout the whole movie!!  I’m kind of glad I can’t see because some of the description of certain scenes was enough and I didn’t want to actually visually see some of it!
So, yeah, I would definitely recommend it!  Just be warned that it’s intense and not for the squeamish in regards to what happens to those who cross drug dealers in Mexico.  Don;t worry though, those scenes are short but makes an statement.  Well worth it - go see it!!

Black Mass
On Saturday, September 26th, Camry guided me all the way to the movie theater.  Oh yeah, and David came too! ;)  It’s a little over a mile from our place to Regal Cinemas at LA Live which I love because they have audio description, yay!!
We decided to check out the movie, Black Mass, starring Johnny Depp.  I was happy that the headset was set up correctly and now I know before the movie starts because I can hear the description of the Regal intro (the roller coaster) before the previews start :)
I have to look up an image because I kept hearing about how blue Jimmy Bulger’s eyes were throughout the audio description of the movie!  OK, what did I think?  It was good, not great, but a solid film.  Kept my interest throughout but I do think, Joel Edgerton, stole the movie.  I felt like it was about his character, John Connolly, more and thought he did a great job acting.
Do I recommend it?  Sure, but don’t go in with high expectations.  Camry did an excellent job at just relaxing during the movie and then excellently guided me home! :D

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
Last Sunday, we did our best to beat the heat and went to the movies :)  Yes, Regal Cinemas LA Live is where we went and they had The Man From U.N.C.L.E. audio described, yay!!  I didn’t have any expectations about this movie.  I had seen a preview but felt pretty ambivalent about it.
Boy, was I pleasantly surprised!  It was a fun, popcorn flick :)  Yes, it all tidies up nicely, but, who cares?  I enjoyed the ride!  Guy Ritchie did a nice job directing and gave it a good look to the film.  I loved their wardrobe and the look of the 60′s.  Boy, did I suddenly feel underdressed in my shorts and t-shirt, HA! ;)
So, if you are looking for a fun, spy caper, summer, popcorn flick, then I totally recommend it!!  Just sit back and enjoy :)

Ant-Man
Last Saturday, David, Camry and I went to Regal Cinemas LA Live to see the movie, Ant-Man.  We got our popcorn and vitamin water (yes, instead of soda, yay!)
OK, we sat in the disabled row and the movie begins...oh no, the audio description does not start and all I hear is static, sigh...David jumps up and runs out, goes downstairs and has to get me a new headset, sorry! :(
Now we finally could all enjoy the movie.  Boy, did I enjoy the movie very, very much!!  It was better than I expected!!  Such a fun, fun movie :)  Paul Rudd was such a great choice! :)  He was adorable and funny.  Plus the supporting cast was really great too!  Kept the action going but light hearted.
So, if you want a fun-filled, popcorn flick, go see Ant-Man, you won’t regret it :)

Mad Max: Fury Road
On Sunday, June 14th Camry guided me all the way to the movies!  OK, well, David was with us too to help with directions ;)  It was over a mile so it felt good to be able to walk over there again and not be in pain, yay!
Thank you Regal Cinemas at LA Live for having audio description for most of the movies, yay! :)  We heard positive reviews for Mad Max: Fury Road so we decided to see what it was all about.  I have to admit that I’ve never seen or knew much about the original story.  But hey, I heard how it really focused on women and strong women, so yeah, let’s check it out!
BTW, when you get the audio description headset, make sure it is set for “v” for “visual” and not “h” for hearing.  at first when I asked, the girl came back with the rear window captioning and we said “no, I can hear, just can’t see” ;)  Then she got the headset and glad we’ve done it so many times that David could tell that it was set for “h” and he had to tell her to switch it to “v”.  Finally, looks like we were set.  We settled in and we’re always a bit anxious during the previews because I’m waiting to hear the audio description begin so we can truly feel comfortable.  There were many a time in the past that David had to run out in the beginning to get the headset set correctly.  No running out this time, we were good :)
Wow, bam, we were in the middle of a chase and the chase went on for the whole movie!!  I was a bit confused for probably over a quarter of the movie!  It had nothing to do with the audio description, it was good, it was just different.  There is no traditional set up to get you introduced to the characters and the setting.  It felt like we were thrown in right in the middle and it was up to me to catch up!  Yeah, women totally kick butt and I felt like Max was almost a side character.  Once I got over the “what the heck?” and just went with it, it was full action the whole time!!
Honestly, at one point, I thought the movie was going to be a sequel because we just didn’t have time to finish it!  But, I was wrong!!  Butt kicking the whole time and adrenaline rush for 2 hours!  I did feel like it was longer than 2 hours though.  But overall, a fun popcorn action flick :)
BTW, Camry curled up at our feet and didn’t stir the whole time - all that noise and she wasn’t fazed - she’s awesome!! :D

Avengers:Age of Ultron & Pacquiao v. Mayweather
Yes, I’m talking about Saturday, May 2nd.  We started the day off by going to Regal Cinemas at LA Live, where I could get the movie audio described, yay! :)  OK, you are right...so I could enjoy the movie my husband, David wanted to see, Avengers: Age of Ultron, HA! ;)
I have to admit, I was probably the only person who wasn’t a big fan of the first Avengers movie, so I didn’t have high expectations for this one.  Yet, I was pleasantly surprised and actually enjoyed it.  Maybe I should just set low expectations, then I’ll like more movies, right?! ;)  Yes it was long but tons of action and I really liked James Spader as the voice of Ultron, great job!!  Pretty predictable but it was a fun popcorn flick.  My only complaint with the audio description is the same as always in action movies - the sound is so loud that I’ll have to turn it up so high to hear the audio description but then I blow out my ear drums so, I keep it low and just miss some of the intense action scenes but really, all I need to know is when the hero wins, right?! ;)
That evening, we headed to mi tia’s to watch the fight.  No, we did not bet any money but we drew Round 7 or was it 5?  Well, regardless, as you know, it went the full twelve rounds.  You might be surprised to know that I am a boxing fan.  Now, I don’t keep up as much, but I do know the big names and enjoy watching the big fights.  Why?  Well, because we use to get together to watch the big fights  with la familia when I was a kid, so it brings back fond memories of food and family fun :D
Yes, it’s a bit harder to watch now but I get to sit pretty close to the TV and I’m surrounded by people giving me a personal “audio description” ;)  It turned out as we expected, sigh...Mayweather is a great boxer, hands down but Pacquiao is a great fighter.  Defense v. Offense but I miss the matches of great fighters who gave as hard as they got.  I’m being nostalgic...does this mean I’m getting old?! HA! ;)
Oh, and did anyone else cringe hearing Jamie Foxx sing the National Anthem?

Thanksgiving Weekend 2014
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and realized that I really do have a lot to be thankful for :)
We slept in on Black Friday and did go to one furniture shop but we didn't buy anything.  Later on, we went to Regal Cinemas at LA Live to see Hunger Games Mockingjay with audio description.  Sadly, I was disappointed - just didn't feel engaged and wish they wouldn't have broken it up into 2 movies, sigh...
Saturday, David's dad came over and we all went to the LA Auto Show.  I ended up leaving Camry at home while David wheeled me around in a wheelchair.  It would have been just too much to try and walk around in the immobilizer for that long.  I really missed her though.  Of course, leave it to me to be impressed by the Porsche Panamera ;)  After the show, we headed out to Pete's for lunch, yum!
That night, David, Camry and I went to visit my cousins Juan and Tom.  What a blast to visit with mi familia again and see one of our cousin's who was visiting from Mexico.  Another great night of good fun, laughs and fun!! :)
Sunday, we were at the LA Opera to see, Florencia en las Amazonas.  What a fabulous way to end the holiday weekend!  As soon as we left, it began pouring rain!!  We found shelter and our car was brought to us, oh well, a little water doesn't hurt, right?  I was just paranoid about slipping but all went well, thank you Camry and David!! :D
p.s. still hoping someone will make an app so I can have the super titles read to me during the opera...hint, hint...
