Reiki.
This was ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.
She was sore from yesterday, hadn't had much for breakfast, had to deal, and is STILL dealing, with Inuyasha and with the way he kept bothering her and whining about how he didn't want her to return to her time, despite it being WEEKS.
Now she had to deal with bandits, who turned out to be demons. They had had recently abducted Shippo and would only return him in exchange for the jewels shards.
They were clearly low class level demons, going on about how they won't hesitate to kill Shippo, and possibly even eat him. Inuyasha was doing nothing but barking, and Sesshomaru was about to attack but that was when a deafening crack was heard.
All demons in the surrounding area felt a wave of spiritual energy. The young Miko looked enraged, reiki surrounding her as she also tried to keep her powers at bay as to not harm her friends.
"I am his mother!! And a miko for that matter, so if you don't want me to fry you alive, you will do well to let my child go!"
Kagome roared; her voice held power and determination, a tone even her friends had almost never heard her use. Gone was the tender voice of a high-school girl; now replaced before them was a woman, a mother, who was very much willing to attack and protect her child.
The demons didnt have to be told twice as they dropped the kit and fled. Kagome quickly rushed to his side and cradled him as he hugged her tightly with tears in his eyes.
Her suffocating reiki had died down by now, and although one could tell that bringing forth such great amounts of powers could render someone exhausted, especially for Kagome who still had a lot to learn, she kept herself from falling over.
She rose up, kit in her arms, and looked at the stunned group(Sesshomaru being and exception).
"Let's go." She said tiredly, wishing for the day to just come to an end.
Later that evening, Miroku and Sango were sat next to each other, whispering.
"You think so?.." Asked Sango.
"Mhm...think about it." Replied Miroku with a slight grin on his face.
"I guess you have a point...Sesshomaru kind of rubbed off on her." Sango commented.
"All I can say, my dear Sango, is that ever since Sesshomaru-sama came into the group, Kagome-sama seemed to have gained more confidence in herself. Even in her abilities."
Sango only nodded as she looked at her now sleeping friend, with Shippo and Rin, safely tucked between her arms.
The inu yokai in question, was sat at the base of tree in the near distance, eyes closed.
The comments almost made him smirk.
Hey guys, a couple of weeks have passed since my last post. Uni got way out of hand, and it's a period where I have to visit different family members so it will still be some time. Even because once again: đđexamsđđ
Gosh.
But no worries I will always have fun sketched to post even during this exam period(which fortunately won't last as long as the previous one--)
Anyway, enough yapping, I wanted to have some fun and draw Kags in the same manner as Yor from SpyxFamily! Season 1 where she and Anya were going grocery shopping and Yor flipped(As my Queen should).

CHAPTER EIGHT
Itâs Monday morning and I woke up to the sound of my Papa shouting. I look at the clock and itâs four in the morning. Concerned about what was happening, I rush to my door and peek out into the hallway. Looking down the hall, I see my Papa standing in the middle of the living room yelling at something. I thought he was yelling at my mom or Mushi until I walk closer and see nothing and no one in front of him. Mushi is in the corner behind him lying down with worried eyes. I jump in surprise as my Papa starts to yell again.
âWhy donât you understand me,â he asks.
âYou know me better than anyone, so why donât you understand my feelings,â he says to the open air.
I donât know what to do in this situation. Should I say something to him? Should I just go back to my room? Should I go get mom? And just as I think of going to get her, she walks past me and to my Papa.
âDad, whatâs the matter. Itâs 4AM. Why are you yelling,â she asks.
âIâm sorry, Mina. I didnât mean to yell but she isnât listening to me,â he says.
âWhoâs not listening to you?â
âYour mother. Iâm telling her about not being able to remember things and she does not understand.â
My mom sighs. âDad⊠Oh goodness, did you forget to take your medicine before you went to bed. I left them on your nightstand for you to take. Come on; letâs get you back to bed.â
My Papa followed her to his room without saying another word. She gives him his pills, tucks him in bed, and leaves the room closing the door behind her. As she closes the door, she turns to me and sighs again.
âCome on honey, back to bed for you too,â she says.
âBut what aboutâŠâ I started to say but she cut me off.
âNo buts, weâll talk about it in the morning.
Doing as I was told, I head back to my room and get back in bed to get about 4 more hours of sleep before I have to get ready for school.
That morning, mom drove me to school. As weâre riding, I couldnât fight the urge to ask about what happened last night with Papa. So I break the silence in the car ride by asking,
âSo⊠What was happening with Papa last night,â I ask.
âWell honey, as you know, Papa has Alzheimerâs and as a part of this disease Papa experiences times where he canât remember certain things and sometimes he can have hallucinations that can make him restless and irritable. Thatâs why it is important for him to take his medications that help him sleep and reduce the amount of hallucinations he gets,â she explains.
I donât really know how to react to this information so I just nod.
âIâm sorry he woke you up and potentially scared you. If something like that happens again, tell me immediately, okay?â
âOkay,â I agree as we pull up in front of school.
âAlright hun, have a good day. Do you need me to come pick you up today,â she asks.
âNo, Key can drive me home. Iâm staying after school today so he can help me with my reiki. Iâll be home before dinner though.â
âOkay hun. See you later. Love you.â
âLove you too,â I say as I head into school.
I head to my locker to get my stuff for Chemistry and Algebra, not really paying attention to my surroundings. I hear someone near me clear their throat but I donât think anything of it until I feel someone tap me lightly on the shoulder. I turn and see Lydia, one of the girls that bullied me my first day, standing there. Shocked by her presence I say,
âUmm⊠Yes.â
She begins. âOkay, I know that my friends and I were complete bitches to you your first few weeks here and I wanted to say Iâm sorry for the way we acted. It was stupid and immature.â
âWow. Umm⊠Thanks. I accept your apologize.â
âCool. So there is one more thing I wanted to talk to you about.â
âOkay, go ahead.â
âWell⊠A couple of friends and I are having trouble in our history class and since youâre the smartest person in the class, we were hoping you could tutor us so we donât fail. We promise to be diligent tutees.â
I have to have a small conversation within myself before I give her a response because the angel and demon on my shoulder are battling it out. What if she only apologized to use me? But, then, what if she was genuine in her apology? I donât know what to do. So I take a deep breath and say,
âAlright, Iâll help you. But I donât wanna hear anymore nonsense about me being a freak. Got it?â
âUnderstood. Thank you so much Adajoon.â
She walks away with pep in her step and Iâm still standing here in shock of what I just agreed to and the fact that she called me by my name. I was brought back to reality by the warning bell.
The day goes on like normal. Nothing extraordinary today. The dismissal bell rings and Key and I head to our lockers and then to one of the gym practice rooms so he can help me with my reiki. We change into workout clothes and then get started with practice.
âAll right, Miss. Adajoon. Are you ready to unleash the amazing power that is your reiki,â he says with a ton of enthusiasm and theatrics.
âI was born ready,â I reply with a giggle.
âGood. Letâs start with the basic. The thing about reiki summoning is that itâs a feel that consumes your body and flows through your veins like a warm heat waiting to be release,â he says.
âDang man. Thatâs deep,â I say.
âThank you. I try. Now, I know youâve learned about the traditional dance to summon reiki in your intro to reiki class, but as the generations passed, people learned that reiki can also be summoned through any form of passionate dance. The more feeling you put into a dance, the more powerful the reiki. Got it?â
I nod with excitement.
âOkay. Iâm going to demonstrate how I summon my reiki.â
He pulls out a small speaker and aux cord and attaches his phone. After scrolling through his phone for a bit, he taps the screen and âLet It Goâ by James Bay starts to play.
âAww, I love this song,â I say.
âSame. Now watch closely.â
Key begins to dance and I am in awe. The way his body moves is like water; which makes sense since heâs a descendant of the Sea Turtle delegation. Each move was so fluid.
Key's Dance
As he continues to dance, I start to see an aura form around his arms and legs. They looked like waves coming from his body. As he dances past me, I can feel mist coming from his limbs. Itâs like magic and I am speechless. He finishes the dance and I just standing there with my jaw on the floor.
âHOLY CRAP, KEY!!! That was beautiful. What in the⊠Oh My⊠What,â I say trying to find words to form a sentence.
âPretty cool huh. Okay, now itâs your turn to try.â
âUmm⊠You want me to follow that. No thank you.â
âCome on you donât have to dance like I did. You just have to feel the music. It helps if you dance to a song you really like. Plus, you said you used to dance so whatâs the problem.â
âItâs been a minute. I used to be able to dance like that, but I donât know if a still have it in me.â
âOkay, first letâs find a song you like, and then once the music starts just start moving. Let the beat carry you.â
âOkay, Iâll try.â
I go over to his phone and scroll through his library. I find Ellie Gouldingâs song âSomething In The Way You Moveâ and I select it immediately. I love dancing to this song. The song starts and I start to feel the beat. I close my eyes and let the music take me. I start to sway my hips and step to the beat. I feel so free.
Adajoon's Dance
As I dance with more feeling, I start to feel a warm sensation flow through my arms and legs. As I start to do a spin, I see what looks like flames coming off of my limbs. I am shocked at first, but I didnât stop dancing because the feeling on the flames felt so good. As I finish the dance, I spread my arms and a gust of wind came from my chest and hits Key.
The song ends and Key is staring at me, the way I was staring at him when he finished his dance. I got nervous when he didnât say anything so I ask,
âSo⊠Was that okay?â
âOkay? Okay? Adajoon, that was more than okay. That was fucking incredible.â
âWow. Really?â
âYou dance with such fire. Figuratively and literally. I could really see how passionate you are. Bravo maâam. Bravo. And that combination of the fire and wind. Out. Of. This. World,â he continues to gush.
âThanks Key,â I laugh a bit embarrassed.
âDang, everyone in your intro to reiki are going to be blown away once to guys start practicing during class. Man⊠Well, thatâs enough practice for day one. You worked hard. I honestly wasnât expecting you to be able to summon your reiki so quickly. But hereâs a tip. Find different songs you like to dance to. Different music equals different dance moves which equals different forms of summoning your reiki. Okay?â
âYes sir, Mr. Key.â
âAlright, letâs get you home.â
We leave school and Key drives me home. We say our goodbyes and I head inside. As I enter I see my mom in the kitchen cooking dinner. She hears me close the door and looks up.
âHey sweetie. How was school?â
âGreat. Guess what?â
âWhat?â
âI summoned my reiki for the first time today.â
âWhat? How did it feel? What did it look like? Aww, I wish I was there to see it.â
âIt felt amazing. It was like a warm fire coursing through my body. Flames surrounded my arms and legs and a gust of wind blew from my chest. It was so cool.â
âThatâs great hun. I glad you had a good first experience with your gift. Okay, now go wash up and get ready for dinner. Itâll be ready in about 30 minutes.â
âOkay,â I say as I skip off to my room.
I get to my room and get my night clothes ready while still thinking about how amazing summoning my reiki felt. It made me so happy that I was able to summon it on my first try. And it made me feel so strong. Wow. What a feeling. I finish getting ready for my shower and I head for the bathroom when I happen to glance up at my Nanaâs vase. A warm feeling comes over me and I canât help but smile as I leave my room.

On the "woo-woo scale"âwhere 0 is pure rationality and total skepticism, and 10 is reiki and charging crystalsâI would say that on most days I fall at a 2, maybe a 3. But during a recent visit to Costa Rica for Hacienda AltaGraciaâs Summer of Longevity Series, I felt something shift among the birdsong and flowing waters and humid air. A few days at this Costa Rican retreat reminded me of the power within myself to change my perspective and focusâand to love and care for my own body. Near the Nicoya Peninsula Blue Zoneâwhich offers plenty of Costa Rican longevity lessons of its ownâHacienda AltaGracia is a luxury resort that embraces the core tenants of longevity-focused living: healthy eating (read: "three sisters" recipes), outdoor activity, fostering community, and having a plan de vida (life purpose). These pillars are well-known and well-covered, but at Hacienda AltaGracia's longevity retreat, I found something deeper, softer, and more personal. If you want true longevityâwhere your life is long in years, and your years are long in lifeâtaking care of your body and your self cannot be separated. What are you doing with your body today that will help you feel better and move more easily next year, or even next decade? The 50-casita resort in the mountains of Talamanca is using the slower summer season to highlight the ways we can work longevity principles into our lives. Each week there is longevity-specific programming: You might take a (surprisingly challenging) yoga class led by Meilyn SoliÌs Elizondo, attend a fascia flow (more on that in a bit), or enjoy a sound bath. There are small group conversations, meditations, and workouts, and each month a new visiting master. The master for May is Anisha Chaves, a Costa Rican who has used various healing modalities for years, and whose knowledge of the body is impressive, while her demeanor (vibe, if you will) is calming and grounding. (If you get the chance to go in May, take it just to get to meet Chavesâshe led me through a River Bath reset, essentially water therapy, that I can only describe as life-changing.) In a conversation about plan de vida, lead by Lauren Ferioli, Hacienda AltaGracia's on-staff health coach and movement specialist, and attended by Chaves, there was great honesty and openness about the meaning of longevity. That meaning is shifting even within Costa Rica, where modern life is taking the place of much of the traditional (and traditionally healthier) lifestyle. But ultimately, it came down to this: What are you doing with your body today that will help you feel better and move more easily next year, or even next decade? These are the expert tips and tricks I will take home and use to age well. 4 surprising lessons I learned at HaciendaAltaGracia's longevity retreat The longevity resort programming at Hacienda AltaGracia makes sure to cover the well-known aspects of what it means to live a Blue Zone life, but I learned some specific, surprising things about how movement and fitness can help you live longer. 1. Take care of your spine Throughout my stay, the health of the spine emerged as a theme. Chaves talked about it, Ferioli talked about it, Elizondo talked about it. "Spine health is crucial for overall wellbeing and is key for postural health, balance, and movement longevity," says Ferioli. "Articulation and flexibility are important to maintainâplus 'flexible spine, flexible mind.'" By the age of 60, more than 90 percent of people will show evidence of some disc degeneration, according to Columbia University Irving Medical Center, but by including spine-healthy moves (like the pelvic clock and articulated bridge, below) in our workouts, we give our whole bodies a better chance to age well and feel good. Pelvic clock "I love the pelvic clock movement because it awakens our connection to our nervous system at the base of the spine and allows us to align the spine all the way up the chain," Ferioli says. "Pelvic clock also gives us vocabulary to talk about where we feel constriction or lack of mobility in the pelvic region.
" Start by lying on your back on a yoga mat or other comfortable surface. Bend your knees so your feet are flat on the floor. Make sure your spine is in neutral and your shoulders are relaxed and away from your ears. Place your hands on your lower belly, letting the tips of your pointer fingers rest on top of your pubic bone near the crease of your thighs and the tip of your thumbs near your belly button. Imagine that your pelvis is a clock, with your belly button at 12 o'clock and the bottom of your pubic bone at 6 o'clock. Engage your abdominals and bring your belly down to your spine, lengthening the spine along the floor. This will create a pelvic tilt, where you're tilting down at 12 oâclock (navel) and up at 6 oâclock (pubic bone). Tilt back and forth here a few times, until you feel like you're getting a sense of the movement. Use your abs to rotate your clock down to the side so that the 3 oâclock hip is lower. ââTilt between 3 and 9 o'clock a few times, inhaling and exhaling evenly. Repeat another cycle in the opposite direction. Articulated bridge "Articulated bridging is a must for any spine, as it promotes space for our disc tissue to live unencumbered," says Ferioli. "Spaciousness in the spine will ensure a lifetime of mobility, balance, and wellbeing." Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Tilt your pelvis back and begin to peel your back off the mat, vertebra by vertebra, until you're in a bridge, with your hips in the air and feet still on the mat. Support your weight with your shoulders and don't articulate past them. Try to do this segment by segment rather than just lifting your hips up to get into the glute bridge. You want to press through your upper back and roll up slowly. Hold up top briefly, then roll your spine back down to the mat slowly, vertebra by vertebra, and repeat. 2. Take care of your fascia Your fascia (aka, connective tissue) as a system is only just now starting to be understood by scienceâaccording to the Cleveland Clinic, researchers recently realized it provides form and function to your entire body. And after one fascial release flow led by Chaves, it was clear that my entire body understands the importance of it. Chaves recommends checking and correcting your posture every 15 to 30 minutes and listening to the needs of your body to help support the fascia. "Integrating free and conscious movements into our daily routine helps us balance, strengthen, and release tensions, as well as oxygenate the body and promote energy flow," she says. Want some whole-body moves to try? Chaves recommends doing the below exercises whenever you feel they're necessary (if you're tight, stiff, or sore), but points out that they're especially beneficial to do before going to bed and upon waking up. "[This] can lead to significant physical, mental, and emotional changes," she says. Oppositional tension neck pull Sit in a comfortable position, with your spine long, chin tucked slightly, and shoulders down and back. Take your right hand and place the palm on the left side of your head, facing down (your arm will be curved above your head). Push your head into your head, but don't move itâthis is called "oppositional tension," and helps release your fascia. While still pushing your head into your hand, pull your head down toward your chest until you feel a stretch. Keep pushing and pulling for a few seconds before releasing. Switch hands and repeat on the other side. Do this front to back and side to side until the entirety of your neck has been stretched. Eagle arms Sit in a comfortable position, with your spine long, chin tucked slightly, and shoulders down and back. Inhale, and bring your arms into a wide T-shape. Cross your right elbow over your left, bend at your elbows and bring your forearms perpendicular to the floor. Cross your wrists to connect your palms together (or press the backs of the hands together). Press your hands together for oppositional tension as you bring your crossed arms out and up.
You should feel a deep stretch between your shoulder blades. Hold this for about 30 seconds before releasing and switching sides. 3. Daily movement can be toughâbut itâs worth it Something youâve likely heard over and over about the Blue Zones is that one of the keys to longevity is weaving movement into your everyday, through gardening or manual labor or long walks up steep hills. But for many of us who tend to feel chained to our computers or stuck at a desk, changing our lifestyle to be more movement-centric can feel impossible (carving out an hour a few times a week to hit the gym is difficult already!). But whatâs true is that itâs worth it: in the original Blue Zone research, it was determined that the oldest living people were getting up and moving every 20 minutes. And you can start somewhere small and mostly painlessâseriously! A small 2024 study in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports found that 10 bodyweight squats every 45 minutes during prolonged (8.5 hours) sitting did a better job at helping the body with glycemic control than a single, 30-minute walk. For Chaves, her preferred form of movement for longevity is dance. "Dance encompasses so muchâfrom breathwork and free movement to immediate connection with pleasure and joy," she says. "It activates your internal waters, altering your vibration, and induces sweating, which detoxifies your body." And while the Hacienda AltaGracia longevity retreat offers golf cart rides to anywhere you want to go, I found the nights I walked back to my casita after dinner were the nights I slept the best. 4. Consider inflammation There is a time and place for high-intensity workouts (you need impact, for example, to improve bone health), but recovery and a mix of modalities is important to remember. Chaves moved my body for more than hour in the River Bath reset, a form of water therapy, stretching and moving my limbs, turning me over in a warm, river-fed and fire-heated pool. Afterward, you would say that I was vibrating at a high frequencyâmy body felt relaxed and stretched, the soreness from the previous dayâs hike dissipated. I had amazing energy for the rest of the day. "Water facilitates healing by allowing us to release control and surrender to its movements as we float in a horizontal position, uncommon in our daily lives," Chaves says. She considers aquatic therapy a somatic practice that helps us "connect what we think with what we feel and release the tensions held in the body." And science agrees that there are anti-inflammatory benefits of moving your body in water. Indeed, a 2019 study in the Journal of Pain Research found that water therapy improves pain and fatigue in people with fibromyalgia. If youâre often sore, tired, or run-down after your usual workouts, it might be time to work in something new.
