Jared's Top Ten Albums of 2024! 4. Candy - It's Inside You

Candy are one of the most consistent bands in modern heavy music, with three albums since 2018, each of which have been a blast, mixing bruising hardcore and metal with aplomb, breaking into the list of Media Approved -core bands alongside Knocked Loose and Code Orange.

Three albums in, Candy continue to deliver absolutely stupidly heavy riffs, lacerating vocal performances, and continue to tinker in the edges of heavy music in general, incorporating elements of industrial, electronic, and even dance music. Luckily these experiments do absolutely nothing to calm the savage beast that is the core sound of Candy. Guitarists Michael Quick and Steve Digenio are masters of riffing, and Kurt Ballou's production that every slamming riff and breakdown hits as hard as possible. Every hardcore adjacent band should try and get Ballou to produce for them, I always love the way his stuff sounds.

Candy also manage to be pretty catchy in spite of their heaviness and willingness to experiment. Songs like the title track, "Dreams Less Sweet" and "You Will Never Get Me" lodge themselves directly into your brain like a speeding bullet, and won't leave easily. And of course, whether it's the straight-ahead metalcore of "Dreams Less Sweet" or the digital fusion of "Hypercore," everything here is perfect to absolutely cut loose and headbang and mosh to.
