I spared everyone the trouble by limiting myself to 30 songs, just a little under Castlevania’s total, and of course I am categorizing them.

Character theme for Reimu (and Marisa)

Love-Colored Master Spark (th2) and Mystic Love Consultation (th3) are probably the most recognizable themes these two have, and since they’re also the ones I prefer, this is a gimme. However I would also put in Eternal Shrine Maiden (th1), which may seem like an oddly sedate choice, but it’s a good theme and ZUN’s never brought it back as far as I remember, so its time has come.

Other important characters who need a theme somewhere

Luna Dial (th6) would be super easy to arrange for Smash, I’m dead certain they have someone on the team who can make it sound excellent.

Border of Life (th7): one of the best final boss themes imo, everyone knows it, etc etc

Doll Judgement (th7): god what a cool theme. you could probably just use the Changeability of Strange Dream version as-is

Night Falls (th7.5) since we need a Yukari theme, but also I love this one a lot and don’t really love the remixes we’ve gotten in-series. (Necrofantasia? don’t know her)

The Primal Scene of Japan the Girl Saw (th10) would actually make a better remix than Faith is for the Transient People imo, as long as the arranger does a decent job

Something from every main series game

Inanimate Dream (th4): mega good theme that has sadly been neglected

Grimoire of Alice/Alice in Wonderland (th5): both of these songs are incredible but they’d both be too repetitive on their own so a mashup would be very appropriate here

Retribution for the Imperishable Night (th8): notable for including the Touhou title screen motif front and center, which is something I feel should show up in this set somewhere to represent the franchise

Judgement in the Sixtieth Year (th9): thiefing is illigal

Walking the Streets of a Former Hell (th11): not impressive in its base form, but it’s just the kind of song that the sound team can fix up nicely

Cosmic Mind (th12): Needs Fires of Hokkai as a bridge section or smth

Pure Furies (th15)

Four Seasons Medley (th16): this game’s strength was its stage themes, so I say slap the first four stage themes (A Star of Hope Rises in the Blue Sky, The Colorless Wind on Youkai Mountain, Swim in a Cherry Blossom-Colored Sea, and Illusionary White Traveler) into a medley to represent the four seasons and all

Hi 11/4 time using this theme again!!! (a more subdued version of this theme I posted here: http://vgm-in-irregular-time-of-the-day.tumblr.com/post/175936925027/day-1104-touhou-8-imperishable-night-eternal )

Just like the other version it’s really more the kind of thing that’d be written on most sheet music as just looping 3/4, 3/4, 3/4, 2/4 but I’m pretty sure ZUN mentally thinks of it as 11/4

:55 - 1:14 is 4/4 instead of 11/4, but 7-bar phrased, which feels a lot like mixed meter at this tempo, same type of unexpectedness!
