It's over, y'all. I won't get into spoiler territory, but I think we can all agree that some parts of the anime ending were handled better than the manga, and some parts were worse. Here's a list of all the post-canon stories I've written to take the edge off the conclusion to the series.

To All of Us, From 2000 Years Ago - My canon fix-it fic. I like to believe this is how the series actually ended. Non-shipping, CW for references to rape.

To You, Twenty Years From Now - My first ever Rivamika fic! Takes place in a 1920s post-canon AU where Levi and Mikasa catch up after years apart. (Please keep in mind that I wrote this in 2014, so the story reflects what canon looked like back then.)

A Nameless Love - The cottagecore Ackerbabies future we were unjustly denied. This is actual canon if you're delulu like me.

The Razor's Edge - A short fic that also takes place in a post-canon cottagecore AU. Levi gets injured doing some repairs on his and Mikasa's home, so Mikasa helps him shave.

WHO IN YOUR OTP: looks over the menu for fifteen minutes before ordering the same thing they order EVERYWHERE they go? does the other half of your ship get annoyed by this, or do they find it endearing?

I was originally gonna say Levi. But actually I see Levi as the one who makes sure to try a new thing on the menu. I'm picturing this happening when he and Mikasa are traveling. He does research on specialties from different places and asks locals. Levi actively tries new things. Considering this in the AOT world, Levi's time in the underground followed by his time in the military, it would be hard to come by and then it was only in rations. And when they did have big celebratory nights like "Night of the Battle to Retake the Wall," he'd really be thankful for what he got. Remembering his childhood and the time he spent with an empty stomach. In conclusion, post war he'd definitely appreciate be able to enjoy food.

Mikasa seems like the type to just view food as necessary nourishment. I think Levi would laugh in endearment when she chooses the same thing. But he always offers his food to her for her to experience different things, and they end up just sharing. enjoying both. sharing food becomes a part of their love language. I also think Levi wanting to offer the more adventurous foods to Mikasa would parallel the way he has helped Mikasa change from her very static way from childhood.

My friend also brought up this point: "he could be trying things as a way of living on for his deceased comrades? Because they didn't get to try these things, and if he were to live a gloomy life, he'd be doing them a dishonour."

To which I respond: I dont know why but I'm picturing Sasha in my mind. Levi talking about 'living for his deceased comrades' and then Mikasa thinking of Sasha and how happy she gets eating.

and my friend replied: "AND THEN SHE EATS BECAUSE SHE KNOWS SASHA WOULD WITHOUT HESITATION"

Anyone else wanna join in. agree or disagree? the fun thing is any answer is valid. cause we can go in any direction. (maybe Levi would be the type to eat the same thing because he values order. and it's a stable routine. maybe it's both 🤷🏻‍♀ cause realistically people cant be one or the other.)

Rivamika Month Day 4: Festivals | Amusement Park

Mikasa invites the old Alliance to Hizuru for a summer festival. While the others are off having fun, Levi has a quiet moment with Mikasa when he realizes something important.

I had sooo much fun with this one. I've never had to deal with lighting like this before (bright, direct small source of light), so it was scratching my brain. But I'm very happy with how this turned out. RM month is really pushing me to stretch and utilize a lot of different techniques I've gathered over the past couple years; this one felt like a playground for ALL of that.

been a while since I brought back my Rivamika x Classic old movies series. I hope you guys like this one, Casablanca has been one of my all time favourite movies.

Crack poll time.....

Captain Levi Motherfucking Ackerman.

Maybe not my personal favorite, but a character we all love and respect. And barring Armin Arlert, the only consistent good in the series from start to finish.

So my question today is this:

As far as I'm concerned, neither ending cuts it. I'm not even going to mince words on that one.

Really any chance Levi had at a truly satisfying ending went out the window with Hange's death. His last surviving best friend and the last person you could argue he might've settled down with in peacetime.

In my opinion, not even Attack on Titan's most popular character received any due justice for the crap he endured. Both endings are totally half-assed, and his connection with these characters is superficial and surface-level. I've always said before he has NOTHING with Gabi or Falco, and I stand by that. The anime ending I think suggests somebody else felt the same way. But saddling him with Yelena, who essentially boils down to a terrorist who actively aided the man who left him horribly maimed......Think about that. Very much a similar case of how he never punished Annie for the loss of his squad.

We never even got a clarification on his connection to Mikasa. Once again, NO RIVAMIKA FANS, you are not allowed to bring your bizarre shipping fantasies on that front here.

I'd like you all to be honest with yourselves........You can't be happy with Levi's treatment in this last season. I sure as hell am not. Nothing about this ending works, and his apparent outcome is no exception as far as I'm concerned.

Unpopular Opinions game: ❤️💚💖

Ooooh let's see! As you probably know, my current brainrot is AoT, so I'm focusing on that for this dissertation 😆

❤: Which character do you think is the most egregiously mischaracterized by the fandom?

I'll admit that, while I'm open to various ships, probably over 90% of what I read is rivamika and so my picture is pretty cropped. Also, I'm not afraid of the back button. But there are versions of Levi I've read that make you go "who is this character and why's he named as my blorbo?" It's worse in the few self-ships I've read (make him look more babygirl than Momiji Sohma) but he tends to be portrayed way, waaay more sweet and articulate than he is in canon. I can sort of forgive that up to some point, however, bc it's fanfic and it's self indulgent and we like to idealize our blorbos. I guess if my fave was Erwin, or Jean, or whoever, I'd tend to see their mischaracterizations more. However, the mischaracterization that stood out to me the most was in a rm fic where Mikasa acted the absolute opposite of herself. It was a modern AU, but it wasn't a case of different setting-different life-different traits (like, say, an articulate Levi in AUs where he had a good upbringing). She was downright vindictive, manipulative and conniving in that one. I recall I left a kudos after the first chapter because it had started well enough, but by the time I finished I couldn't bring myself to leave a comment. The story itself was interesting, but it was so far removed from her character that I just couldn't.

💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?

Age.

I've laid my case here. (and rb and linked ad nauseam)

And was very glad that an actual psychologist recently argued in a similar note.

💖: What is your biggest unpopular opinion about the series?

This is a hard one as I don't go around making popularity contests. One might be Levi's age, as still most fics make him 15+ years older than the 104th.

But the one I think is the most unppopular is that Eren can't possibly know what percentage of humanity he destroys in the Rumbling. He can't, NO ONE can at that point, because the actual extent of the damage and body count can't be known until weeks, if not months, after the Rumbling stops (they don't have internet or satellite phones so data assessment and communication takes time), and because the titans are no more after his death, he cannot remember this info from the future Attack titan (it's a closed time loop, so they can't see things in paths from after the time loop). It's just a silly thing, if you ask me, it's just an oversight from Isayama, who has proven to be shit with numbers, and he could have just said he wiped out "most of humanity", with Armin confirming the number in the epilogue. But people won't hear any of it.

(on a side note, 80% of humanity does not mean 80% of territory, as people are distributed unevenly across the globe)

okay i finally saw it

and it was... nostalgic, sad, tragic, full of care, masterly animated, beautiful. truly the end of an era. when i read the manga chapters i skimmed through a lot unpurposefully, just because of the thrill, but getting to experience it in a slow, paced way and with such an amazing ost made a whole, whole difference

All the new added scenes made so much sense, and i specially liked armin and eren's convo (although i would have kept it shorter and it was a little bit on the nose, some bits). But reiner and jean's convo was amazing (THAT SHOT! The sworn enemies coming together and dying together and jean saying about the scouts.... the best boy confirmed). I could also finally feel Annie and armin's love, loved Pieck for her intelligence and wit, and cried a little bit with Levi.

But the mvp for this episode was Marina Inoue... every fucking time that Armin was on scene I was teary eyed. Every damn time. Armin was never one of my favourite characters but he's a pilar to the series and marina inoue just NAILED IT with her performance (i was legit thinking of @liquorisce all the time because armin was her fav and i would have DIED with such a performance).

and before proceeding with eremika... as a multishipper, i was VERY sad of the face jean made to mikasa when he said they had to kill eren (why so ugly, ma boy), and also sad that they skipped the "stay wih me, mikasa". Not only because of the rivamika ship but because I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THE ANIME SKIPPING THROUGH IMPORTANT ACKERMAN BITS. MY GOD. They are one and the same and their bond is fucking important to their development!!!!!!!!!! Levi saying "stay with me" is not an order but a pleading. Him saying "pull yourself together" is an order AND it diminishes their bond of caring as captain and subordinate.

nyway. Eremikas: we were fed. Raise to mappa for getting their faces right and beautiful. It was full of emotion, it was raw and compassionate and i loved them for that. They gave us exactly what i thought they would, was contended in silences but not in touches and it was so, so tragic. So tragic.

Best bit in my opinion? Mikasa and Armin with Eren's head. My boyfriend cried. We were: affected.

This actually fits three subthemes - crossover (though not anime), royals, and history. I practically screamed when I read the prompts for the week as I finally had an excuse to draw RivaMika as Reign characters.

I'm still currently finishing Season 2 of the series btw 😅 but I've seen clips and such. And I can say that there are some similarities between MaSh (Mary and Bash/Sebastian) and RivaMika. But as I was looking for references, this picture below of FraRy (Francis and Mary) just fit the bill, and I had to create this 😂🥰💖

Sticking my head in the ground and insisting that AOT never ended, it just sorta trailed off and ended with Yams going on permanent hiatus, and whatever's being released this weekend is just an OVA.

Someday I'll be able to eloquently detail how fundamentally betrayed I felt by how slapdash and philosophically inconsistent the ending was, how Eren and Armin's conversation both sidelined Mikasa in her own story and appeared to endorse fascism and genocide, how wildly offensive the extra pages were in terms of Mikasa's inconsistent character development and her designation as eternal Eren simp, and the 47,000 other complaints I had with the writing of the series, but I don't know if that's gonna happen anytime soon, or ever. I loved doing AOT fandom stuff and I still love my Rivamika crew, but I just feel sick with disappointment when I think about AOT as a whole.

I do kinda want to watch the finale but I haven't seen a single episode since the final manga chapters dropped over 2 years ago. I've never had my love for a series killed so thoroughly and completely before, and now it's truly over.

I'm going to assume you're asking for sasusaku fanfics but let me know if I've guessed wrong!

I love the opportunity to hype up my favorites, but I don't usually read in fandoms that I write in, and I never read stories with pairings that I'm actively writing in (including semi-outlining stories or daydreaming about), so I probably won't be much help here. That said, I did read through a little bit of sasusaku before writing my own take on the Blank Period.

I highly recommend the author psallocappella. Their prose is more like private lines of poetry and artistic explorations, in that I don't actually know what's going on or precisely what they're trying to say a good amount of time, but the mood, dynamics, and maturity are striking in a way that I've never read from anyone else. If you're ready to dive right into a deep, complicated and more complete story, the Equilibrium series is where to start. They also posted a variety of short stories and prompt responses in 2021-22 that are so good, I wish each of them could be a full-length story.

Synergy by bttrmllw is the only full-length story I read that I can remember to recommend. It has to be popular in the fandom already, I assume!? Besides having an exciting, action-packed storyline, wonderfully poetic yet approachable prose, and wickedly fun chemistry and romance between Sasuke and Sakura, they helped me mature (and find joy/fulfillment in) my own understanding of Sakura and Sasuke's complex characterizations. Their Sakura is fierce, stubborn and strong, but silly, genuine and adorable, but also clever and willy and strategic. It's amazing. She's all the things. And, not sure how to explain it best, but their Sasuke is arrogant and fiery, but wildly capable, strong, and sensitive too. It made me finally fully appreciate him as a character and consider him a worthy partner to Sakura and friend to Naruto. (Also, if you're a sucker for Itachi like I am, it serves.)

Some thoughts, and a thank you to the Rivamika fandom 🤍

Honestly I have so many complaints about the final part, but I’m going to slow myself down and just keep soaking it in: we got post-war Levi and Mikasa animated at long last. They both made it out alive. They both can live peaceful lives. And it is absolutely canon that they reunite someday, eventually.

That’s all I’ll celebrate from the story for now 🤍 AOT is such a special series to my heart despite the disappointment I feel in many areas. It got me through some tough years and brought joy and excitement. It inspired me to draw again, and literally helped me discover a love for writing. Most importantly, it created fandom community and friendships which have brought daily joy and fun into the most mundane moments of life.

Levi and Mikasa deserve the best. I will love to continue exploring their possibilities and healing and love and belonging through art and fanfiction with fandom friends 🤍

This is a ship and series that I know will stay imbedded into my heart (the same way ATLA and Fruits Basket have always been permanent to me). I’m not going anywhere 😭

Someday, fandom people will trickle away from AOT now that it’s over, but I’ll still be around. And I wanna thank every rivamika shipper, new and old, who withstood alllllll the shit together. There’s been beautiful solidarity and support for so long. I love us! And I love all that we created through our mutual fixation on Rivamika 🤍
