Captain Atom (vol. 1) #78 (December, 1965). Cover by Steve Ditto and Rocke Mastroserio.
This is the “first” issue of Captain Atom’s own magazine, although he had been bopping about in various titles since he first appeared in 1960. Like DC and Marvel, Charlton just renamed an existing comic book (Strange Suspense Stories in this case) and kept the numbering, in order not to have to buy a new postage permit from the US Post Office.
Cap’s run in his own book only lasted until #89 (December, 1967), a victim - like many others from numerous publishers at the time - of the superhero implosion. He showed up in Charlton books infrequently after that, before being acquired by DC Comics in the 1980s.
I always preferred Cap’s original costume, as shown above, opposed to the blue-red-silver maskless version he received soon after this issue, or the silver metal-look he received at DC. The original is more superhero-y to my eye.

It was a big surprise and a huge deal to me the next time my family went to the Two Guys discount department store chain, as I discovered a new flight of Modern Comics 3-Bags had arrived. Modern Comics was an attempt to sell bagged product directly to department stores and other such chains on a non-returnable basis, similar to what the Direct Market would do. The material in the assorted Modern…

KONGA (vol. 1) #23 (November, 1965). Cover by Pat Masulli and Rocco "Rocke" Mastroserio.
No, it's definitely not a rehash of King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962). This is instead Konga, the chimpanzee which a mad scientist turned into a giant gorilla, battling the dread volcano monster Uuang-Ni!
Written by Joe Gill. Art by Bill Montes and Ernie Bache.
Although on this splash page they look more like they're trying to French kiss instead of killing each other.
And can you imagine Kong reacting like this if his face almost got burned off?
