The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection is a limited edition (25 world wide) that has been inspired by the seldom-seen wonder of a solar eclipse (the awe-inspiring moment when the Moon completely obscures the Sun).  

EXTERIOR: GOLDEN DARKNESS The mysterious, ethereal light cast by a total solar eclipse is captured in the Lyrical Copper exterior colour of the motor car. This stunning Bespoke finish incorporates powdered copper pigment, which appears darker until it catches the light when it produces a rich and dramatic iridescence. Mandarin adorns the inserts below the Pantheon Grille and brake callipers, recalling the intense pulses of sunlight witnessed as the eclipse progresses. The same Mandarin hue is used for the hand-painted coachline, which includes a delicate abstract representation of the transition from sunlight to darkness as the Moon approaches to cover the Sun.

ANIMATED STARLIGHT HEADLINER The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis features a fully Bespoke Starlight Headliner with a special animation that, like the eclipse that inspires it, gives those inside a true sense of awe and wonder. As the coach doors close and the engine is started, the ‘stars’ in the Starlight Headliner darken and a mesmerising sequence begins, replicating the totality of the solar eclipse, when the dark silhouette of the Moon completely obscures the bright light of the Sun. A circle of 940 ‘stars’ is formed, representing the bright corona of light around the lunar silhouette. This is surrounded by a further 192 illuminating ‘stars’, recreating the otherworldly spectacle of stars visible in the sky during daylight, which occurs only during a total solar eclipse.

The animation remains visible for precisely seven minutes and 31 seconds – the longest possible duration of a total solar eclipse. Once this time has elapsed, the full constellation of ‘stars’ in the night sky is restored. This highly technical feature required a year of painstaking development, in which the Bespoke Collective produced three complete prototypes to perfect the design and sequencing of the ‘stars’.

ILLUMINATED FASCIA AND ‘DIAMOND RING’ TIMEPIECE The illuminated fascia of Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis is adorned with 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars’ in a symbolic timeline of a total eclipse. A single Bespoke designer had sole responsibility for adjusting the individual size and position of each ‘star’ to create the mesmeric effect; a delicate and exacting process that took over 100 hours to complete.

The composition culminates in a Bespoke timepiece, which incorporates a brilliant-cut 0.5-carat diamond, recalling the ‘Diamond Ring’ effect, when a single, dazzling point of light can be seen on the Moon’s outline in the split seconds just before and immediately after it obscures the Sun. The bezel geometry has been modified to accommodate the precious gem, as this is the first time in Rolls-Royce history that a gemstone has been integrated into the clock’s bezel. The assembly underwent rigorous adhesion tests, which included climatic cell cycling from -30°C to +90°C, to ensure the diamond is robustly secured. The timepiece is finished with an etching on its dark aluminium surround, revealing the bright metal underneath. This beautiful piece of contemporary craftsmanship is the result of over 14 design iterations.

PANORAMIC SUNSET INTERIOR At totality of a solar eclipse, there is a moment when a golden twilight surrounds those viewing the eclipse, giving the illusion of a 360-degree sunset. In Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis, the beauty of this rarely observed phenomenon is captured in bi-coloured seats with a unique perforated artwork, made of over 200,000 individual perforations.

The bold Mandarin leather is tinted in a black shade that is then perforated to reveal the brighter contrasting colour beneath, creating a visual effect with extraordinary depth and subtlety. Using computational design tools, the Bespoke Collective developed a unique pattern, which was then manually refined over seven trials and iterations.

Bespoke finishing touches include illuminated treadplates, umbrellas with Mandarin piping concealed in the coach doors, and a unique indoor motor car cover bearing the Private Collection’s wordmark.

All 25 examples of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection have been allocated to clients around the world.

SH was-a-guest- for the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic at The Hurlingham Club, London, one of the most renowned members’ clubs in the country, the tennis event is scheduled for June 25 to 29, 2024.

However, he was seen wearing a Piaget watch. Perhaps he is seeking something new, but he may have forgotten that he had his moment with Piaget, and certain moments don't come back.

In June 2022, he was invited to the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic and was accompanied by his mum. This year, it seems that his invitation comes with a different look than in 2022. There was no elegant Armani suit from the Spring-Summer Collection, and he did not arrive at the event in a Rolls-Royce, 🚘 one of the partners of the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic.

His invitation on Saturday 29th was to watch the doubles match with Mansour Bahrami, the former French-Iranian tennis player who celebrated 30 years of playing at @thehurlinghamclub, not to watch the match Djokovic def Medvedev 🎾

We will see SH‘s Public Relations priority. Next week Wimbledon begins, widely considered the world's premier tennis tournament, and it will continue trying to show its sporting image.🤷‍♀️

The greatest 50 singles from 1954-76

An index post for Let's Do It (or #Let5D0It), the follow-up to Fear Of Mu21C from last year.

This is my personal top 50 singles from 1954 to 1976, in an approximate ranking order. (Hard lines to "The Deadwood stage", which would have been about number 20, but is a release from 1953 and hence too old.)

Median entry is from 1965. Most popular year is 1962 with five entries, four from 65 and 73; the only year to draw a complete blank is 1955. No entry from The Rolling Stones, nothing from The Who, The Kinks, The David Bowie, or The Reg "Reg" Snipton.

There are 48 different performers in the list, two of the performers have two entries. The challenge restricts us to two entries from any performer and a third from one act; in this spirit, there are three competition entries from the Eurovision Song Contest, and I probably wouldn't have picked more. Four songs are in a language other than English, and there's one instrumental.

Because of everything else going on in my life, research hasn't been quite as comprehensive as I might like; in particular, there's only one song that wasn't a hit on Billboard, the NME, or Music Week charts. Much of the research was done over the Christmas break, I do not apologise for including three seasonal classics.

Contest sponsor Arron insists that we satisfy the "Jann Wenner Clause" - at least 30% of our lists have to be performed by acts that aren't entirely white men. An entirely laudable aim, done to widen the horizons of some of the other contributors. While I'm slightly uneasy about the assumption that American racial classifications work everywhere in the world, or is sufficiently nuanced (does Bob Dylan count as non-white, given that he changed his name due to perceived antisemitism?), for anglosphere music of this era it's a reasonable guide, and 30% is a pitifully low bar. In any event, my list is about 50% performed by acts that aren't entirely white men (there is reasonable argument about whether Freddie Mercury "passed" for white, and I deem the Zanzibar-Persian-Indian chap to be non-white).

I'm presenting this as a ranked list; in truth, I seriously ranked the top 22, and haven't sweated bullets over the lower places. For example, I prefer the song at 34 to the one at 44, and not to the one at 24; but on another day I might reverse positions 33-34-35.

It's on someone's trying to do what we are talking about and they came close the rear end is not bad either it's a fast one and we are going to go into production

And yes it will drop slowly because it's not solid once it drops they're going to try and pull the diamonds out that are underneath and they have to excavate to get to them and that will kick off the pulling out of the diamonds in the golf.

So really in a couple weeks it'll be falling or falling and then they will go after the diamonds from 0 to 150 because it's not so deep out in the Gulf it's about 3 miles of water and two or three miles of overburden now I'm talking a diamond just on the floor maybe 20 miles so these ones are two or three miles including the water it's not really that bad for them and those are more than the plugs there's some sitting out there you can't get to them until it collapses or you would have this hole with tons of coming flying out of it it'd be really gross and when that drops there's going to be about 140 MI of ocean bottom that's going to be like silty sand and mucky and old old Mac it will start growing things in it right away and it will be huge and it's going to drop again and I'll have to regrow and all the seeds will be there and it's going to go real fast but with that by the end of this month or beginning of next month the oxygen level here which now is about it's still about 17 or 18 in the day the spikes at 21 up to 22 at night and spice of 24 and that's now but in a month when this happens in that grows and it'll be a month from now it will be about 22 during the day I will Spike up to 24 or 25 at night and then we'll start getting spikes during the day up to 25 and at night it's up to 30 and I'm from a month from now he's going to start healing and it will degrade the medicine more so it'll also and he's going to it'll melt the lipoma but the Prilosec will deteriorate because of oxygen levels so that's going to happen.. and I'll tell you what these clones are morons and spew right in your face and we have to stop them we're going to start doing it now

Lucy & Cars ~ Part Two

In the 1960s America took to the open road. Everyone owned a car - and Lucy Carmichael was no exception. In Danfield and Los Angeles “The Lucy Show” was motorized! 

“Lucy Buys a Sheep” (1962) ~ When Lucy goes to pick out a sheep to act as a lawn mower, she drives a 1949 Packard Super Deluxe 8 convertible. Packard started making automobiles in 1899 and went out of business in 1958, four years before the series premiered. Future episodes indicate that Lucy doesn’t own a car, so the Packard may belong to Viv.

“Lucy and Viv Are Volunteer Firemen” (1963) ~ As the Chief, Lucy gets to drive the fire truck!  This is a Moreland Truck, a company based in Los Angeles. 

“Lucy Drives a Dump Truck” (1963) ~ The title tells it!  Lucy and Viv drive a 1956 Ford F-Series dump truck to deliver recycled newspapers for cash. The  truck has 'Roy Long's Rental' written on the doors. In reality, Roy Long was Desilu's construction superintendent. This is a huge production for the series, using more than a dozen extras, 160,000 newspapers, an enormous sound stage dressed as a city street, and six vehicles.

Parked on the street is a 1961 Chevrolet Apache light-duty truck with a Fleetside bed option. [More about motorcyles in a future blog.]

“Lucy Decides to Redecorate” (1963) ~ When they redecorate the house, Lucy and Viv must sleep in the car!  Viv's car is a 1953 Ford Crestline Sunliner convertible. This is the first time we have seen inside the Carmichael's garage.

In her sleep, Lucy’s foot hits the gear shift and the car crashes through the living room wall. 

“Lucy, the Camp Cook” (1964) ~ Mr. Mooney drives to the camp in a 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint. The Sprint was overshadowed by the Mustang and was discontinued after 1965. When the car runs out of gas, they must hitchhike. 

“Lucy the Meter Maid” (1964) ~ Is another exterior street set featuring lots of vehicles. A 1965 Ford Mustang may also be the same car used in an October 1964 episode of “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” also filmed on the Desilu lot.

Lucy tickets a 1962 Triumph TR4. In court, the Judge admits to owning a “1964 blue convertible” which may be a reference to this car, despite the difference in the actual model year. The license plate is a 1964 NY World’s Fair commemorative plate. Behind it is the 1953 Ford Crestline Sunliner previously seen in “Lucy Decides to Redecorate”.  

“Lucy Makes a Pinch” (1965) ~ On a stake-out, Lucy and Detective Baker park on Lover’s Lane in a 1964 Lincoln Continental convertible.

When Lucy and Viv are on their own stake out, they are sitting in a customized Jeep CJ-5. It is never stated where or how they acquired a lavender jeep!  

“Lucy at Marineland” (1965) ~ When the show relocates to California, the first episode opens with location footage of Marineland in Rancho Palos Verdes, California . Mr. Mooney agrees to leave work at the bank and drive Lucy and Jerry to Marineland in his light colored Ford Falcon convertible.  

“Lucy and the Undercover Agent” (1965) ~ Lucy, Mr. Mooney, and the Countess go undercover. Mr. Mooney is the chauffeur of a Rolls-Royce 25/30 HP Park Ward swept-tail saloon car. 

In 1965, Lucille Ball and her husband Gary Morton filmed a home movie while vacationing in Monte Carlo. The film takes place on the streets and features many vehicles. 

“Lucy and the Submarine” (1966) ~ Before sneaking onto the submarine, Lucy hides out in a parked Laundry van. 

“Lucy and the Ring-A-Ding Ring” (1966) ~ In this episode Mr. Mooney drives a red Volkswagen convertible bug, a somewhat unusual choice for a middle-aged banker during in the mid-1960s.  

“Lucy in London” (1966) ~ The special was shot on location. Footage of Picadilly circus includes many vehicles, including a white VW Beetle. 

“Lucy Puts Main Street on the Map” (1966) ~ A news crew operates out of a blue hatchback station wagon. The camera is mounted on the roof. 

“Lucy Gets Involved” (1968) ~ Lucy moonlights as a carhop at a drive-in burger joint.  The episode features the light blue 1962 Triumph TR4 convertible previously seen in “Lucy, the Meter Maid”.

The scenes feature a blue Ford Convertible, a vintage 1920s Roadster, a blue Sports Car, a red VW Beetle with Moon Roof, and a Police Car.

“Lucy and the Stolen Stole” (1968) ~ Buddy Hackett plays a conman who drives a little red sportscar. 

“Lucy and the Lost Star” (1968) ~ Before arriving at Joan Crawford’s mansion, Lucy and Viv’s car breaks down in the middle of nowhere.
