“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” —John 14:6 (NIV)
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” —Psalm 55:22 (NIV)
“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” —John 5:24 (NIV)
“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” —Romans 15:4 (NIV)
“The Bible is Alive” Devotional By YouVersion - Day 6: “The Bible Brings Hope”:
Ghana* was a devout Muslim until she discovered the life-transforming power of Jesus in 2016. But after converting to Christianity, she was abandoned, shunned, and ostracized by her community and family. At one point, her children were taken away from her and sent to a different country.
And although Ghana refused to renounce Jesus, she found herself without a solid support system to help her grow closer in her faith. Lonely and depressed, she even considered committing suicide. But eventually she met someone who downloaded YouVersion onto her phone.
At first Ghana wasn’t interested, but later she began reading the Verse of the Day at dawn so that she could meditate on its meaning and use it as a guide for her day. And over time, something unexpected happened…
“The verses became alive and dwelt inside of me. They taught me how to deal with people in healthy ways, and they helped me recover from my depression. Even though I was abandoned, I found comfort any time I read it. Anytime I read the Verse of the Day, in some special way it lifts me up and gives me hope. It’s as if God is always directly speaking to me through the verses.”
Ghana now looks for opportunities to share the Verse of the Day everywhere she goes. She posts verses online to encourage her community, and talks about Scripture at work with her coworkers and clients.
Her story is just one example of what God’s Word can do in all of us. Situations may shift, emotions may fluctuate, people may disappoint or abandon us—but the Word of God endures forever. And because of that, we can experience peace and hope that transcends our circumstances. Because when we allow God’s Word into our hearts, it will remain there.
Today, ask God to bring His Word to life in you by praying this prayer:
God, You made me and You know me. You alone have the power to transform my life. So today I am asking You to align my life with Your Word. No matter what I face, give me the boldness to remain true to Your Word so that I can proclaim Your truth and love to the people You place in my life. Make the roots of my faith grow down deep as I draw close to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

"I'm Not Good Enough" is Only One of the Lies
“I’m not good enough” is only one of the lies we tell ourselves. Moreover, this is what I told myself most of my life along with other lies like “You’re not good enough”, “You’ll never amount to anything”, “You’re too fat”, “You’re not pretty enough”, and the like. What Lies Do You Tell Yourself? I guess the point that I’m trying to make is that these are lies. So, why did I continue to believe…

How to pray for unbelievers
Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. (Romans 10:1)
Paul prays that God would convert Israel. He prays for her salvation! He does not pray for ineffectual influences, but for effectual influences. And that is how we should pray too.
We should take the new covenant promises of God and plead with God to bring them to pass in our children and our neighbors and on all the mission fields of the world.
God, take out of their flesh the heart of stone and give them a new heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 11:19)
Circumcise their heart so that they love you! (Deuteronomy 30:6)
Father, put your Spirit within them and cause them to walk in your statutes. (Ezekiel 36:27)
Grant them repentance and a knowledge of the truth that they may escape from the snare of the devil. (2 Timothy 2:25–26)
Open their hearts so that they believe the gospel! (Acts 16:14)
When we believe in the sovereignty of God — in the right and power of God to elect and then bring hardened sinners to faith and salvation — then we will be able to pray with no inconsistency, and with the confidence of great biblical promises for the conversion of the lost.
Thus, God has pleasure in this kind of praying because it ascribes to him the right and honor to be the free and sovereign God that he is in election and salvation.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Something I’ve seen recently is people trying to “be good enough to work their way into heaven” (aka they’re “on their own journey to get there”). Except, we can never be good enough. We’re always going to fall short. Romans 3:23-24 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." So what does this mean? If we can never be good enough to work our way into some sort of heaven, what do we do? Acts 4:12 says, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved." “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’“ -John 14:6 Jesus is the ONLY way. By His grace, we have been saved. Not only that, but salvation is a free gift (Romans 3:24)! God loves us so much that He won’t force us to do anything we don’t want to do. He gave us free will. Therefore, we can choose to love and be with Him, or we’re going to choose otherwise. Would it truly be love if we were forced to love and be with God? No! God truly loves us and wants us to choose to love Him.  So what are you going to do now? There’s the best gift in the whole wide world sitting right in front of you. Are you going to choose to take it?  "If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." -Romans 10:9-10

A Bonfire of Vanity: Advice From the Wisest Man Who Ever Lived
Tom Wolfe (who wrote, “The Bonfire of the Vanities”) said, “The surest cure for vanity is loneliness.” Another person who understood vanity was (an older and somewhat jaded) King Solomon. After living a life of wealth and achievement, and after marrying hundreds of wives and keeping dozens of concubines, he wrote this: “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and…

Bowen's Daily Meditations

by Rev. George Bowen
Devotional for January 24th
"Sin shall not have dominion over you." - Romans 6:14
A most important declaration to him who has fled over the borders, and taken refuge in the kingdom of God. For sin is now hateful to him, and the idea of being made again to bow under its sceptre, intolerable. He is now in a novel region. Before, even all his days, sin had dominion over him, an undivided sway. He found out the cruelty of that dominion, and, trusting in a divine promise, dared to flee. He is now made aware that all the powers of darkness are irritated greatly, and are fierce in pursuit. They cry in his ear, that his flight has been in vain, and that he will soon be brought again under the dominion of sin. And at times also, it seems as though he were being dragged again to the dread dark region; that he will not be able to continue in God’s marvellous light. Then he hears the delightful declaration that sin shall not have dominion over him; an assurance that gives him amazing strength, and enables him to slay more enemies than Samson did. Made partaker of the divine nature by this exceeding great and precious promise, he bids his foes observe that he is no longer the weak and helpless captive whom they once knew. They are amazed to see how their once-deadly darts are now turned aside by his shield; how their weapons are shivered against his breast-plate; and how the sword in his hand compels them to flee. " What! this slave a warrior? this captive a free man? this creature of our will, a defier of our sovereignty? - a scorner of us and our millions?" Even so. The prince of this world is cast out from a region where Christ and the followers of Christ have found a footing; a region whose limits must expand, till the god of this world has fought his last battle and sunk to his appropriate locality.
