Many Hoped Senate Republicans Would Save Clean Energy. They Mostly Didn’t. (New York Times)
Most republicans, trump and all trump supporters are fundamentally stupid. The climate isn't changing, storms are not increasing in frequency and intensity, hot temperatures have always been hot and cold temperatures have always been cold, the oceans are not rising, droughts just come and go as they have always, and so on. Just ride with the flow, die when you must, because [insert name of deity] is going to guide you just as he [note the "he"] has always created the weather. (Did he create weather on the 6th day of creation?)
Excerpt from this New York Times story:
Climate advocates, Democrats, and even some House Republicans who last month had supported a tax package that gutted federal support for clean energy were hoping the Senate would make fixes to protect energy manufacturing and jobs.
But on Monday, Senate Republicans disappointed them, proposing to quickly end most tax breaks for wind and solar power, electric vehicles and other clean energy.
Draft legislation released by the Senate Finance Committee would terminate or scale back most of the major tax incentives for clean energy contained in the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, the Biden administration’s signature climate law.
The plan would eliminate within six months a $7,500 consumer tax credit for purchases of electric vehicles as well as home energy rebates for things like electric heat pumps and induction stoves. A tax credit for homeowners who install solar panels on rooftops would end within 180 days. A subsidy for making hydrogen fuels would expire this year.
Federal tax credits for wind and solar power, which have been in place for decades but were made more lucrative under the Inflation Reduction Act, would be rapidly phased out. Wind and solar companies could qualify for the full tax break only if they began construction in the next six months. They would receive 60 percent of the tax break if they began construction in 2026, and 20 percent of the tax credit if they began construction in 2027. Projects built after that would get nothing.
That’s a slightly longer runway for renewable energy than is in the House version of the bill, which would have ended those tax breaks almost immediately.
But the phaseout is quicker than many clean-energy supporters had hoped for, and some analysts had warned that pulling support for wind and solar power could cause electricity prices to rise in the coming years.

Biden’s ironically named Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was supposed to create millions of green jobs and launch the “sustainable power” industry.
Subsidies flowed to support electric vehicles, wind farms, and solar energy.  We have been covering the slowdown in the EV market, and residents of the East Coast are questioning all the promises made by the wind energy companies after the Vineyard Wind blade failure.
Now, it’s time to turn our attention to solar power. SunPower, the company that provides solar panels to many Californian homes in the sunny Coachella Valley area, filed for bankruptcy this week.
It is the latest development in a saga that has seen the company facing numerous serious and seemingly escalating challenges over the past several months, including allegations about executives’ misconduct related to the company’s financial statements and a recent decision that SunPower would no longer offer new solar leases. Days after the latter announcement, Coachella Valley-based Renova Energy, which markets and installs SunPower systems, said it was ending its partnership with SunPower and temporarily pausing operations after not receiving required payments from SunPower. SunPower’s executive chairman wrote in a letter posted on the company’s website on Monday that the company had reached an agreement to sell certain divisions of its business and suggested it was looking for one or more buyers to take on the rest, including the company’s responsibilities to maintain solar systems it has previously sold or leased.
It is important to note that SunPower was the industry’s “darling” to understand the magnitude of this development.
Founded in 1985 by a Stanford professor, SunPower was, for the past two decades, a darling of the solar industry. The company helped build America’s biggest solar plant, called Solar Star and located near Rosamond, California, and has installed solar panels on more than 100,000 homes. The company’s stock price has fluctuated dramatically, peaking during the solar stock frenzy of late 2007. As recently as January 2021, SunPower’s valuation momentarily reached $10 billion, buoyed by the expansion of its residential solar panels program. But since then, the company’s value has cratered — and this year, its situation became particularly dire.
It is also important to note that earlier this month, the bankruptcy of a solar-powered company in South Florida created an array of problems on the South Coast of California. Subcontractors are scrambling to find ways to guarantee payment for work on homes with equipment from the firm.
Meanwhile, homeowners are regretting their misplaced trust in eco-activists and city officials.
The business — Electriq Power Inc. — was putting solar panels and batteries on Santa Barbara rooftops at no expense to homeowners and with the blessings of the cities of Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Carpinteria. But then Electriq filed Chapter 7 on May 3, freezing all its operations. This prompted one of its subcontractors, Axiom 360 of Grover Beach, to place mechanics liens on homes for which it had yet to be paid. This preserves Axiom’s options for full payment of its installation work and is not unusual among contractors. But for homeowners who didn’t expect any financial outlay, it came as a shock, especially as the recording notice lists foreclosure in 90 days among the penalties. “You’re helping the environment. You’re not paying high rates to Southern California Edison,” said homeowner Randy Freed, explaining why he signed on to Electriq’s PoweredUp Goleta program. He was pleased with the savings in the solar array and storage batteries, but then he received the mechanics lien in June. The possibility of foreclosure was unanticipated, Freed said, and he’d relied on the cities’ endorsements. “It’s a great program; we’ve checked them out,” he recalled the cities saying on a postcard he received.
Hot Air's Beege Welborne takes an in-depth look at the cascade of warnings that indicate SunPower and the residential solar market are in serious trouble. She also hits on a point that is true for all green energy schemes: Today’s technology cannot keep up with the promises being made about tomorrow.
The technology side still hasn’t ironed itself out and may never with as saturated as the market is. With interest rates as high as they are and home prices through the roof, no one wants to pay a fortune for something that’s not rock solid. …That “sustainable” growth is only possible once all the artificial supports are knocked away and the technology proves viable and worth the cost once and for all.
Of course, the solar industry isn’t helped by the fact that the cost savings for customers aren’t quite as lavish as originally promised.

Support Families in Northern Gaza through Rooftop & Home Vegetable Gardens
"My name is Laila El-Haddad. I'm an author and advocate for Palestinian rights and food justice. Many of you might know me as the co-author of The Gaza Kitchen: A Palestinian Culinary Journey. I'm also an avid gardener and though I am from Gaza City, I'm a farmer at heart!  Farmers represent the deep rootedness Palestinians have to the land.  For Palestinians, farming, especially during a time of genocide and ecocide-is an act of deep faith and the very embodiment of Sumood- the Palestinian concept of steadfast perseverance.
Background
Once known for its lush apple orchards, strawberries, and citrus, northern Gaza is now completely cut off from the rest of Gaza.
As part of its policy to make Gaza unlivable, Israel has destroyed 50% of Gaza's trees and farmland, and severely restricted the entry of food and aid, especially to the north. The scale of damage and destruction is catastrophic. Israeli forces have leveled agricultural land, 90% of all greenhouses, olive groves, and poultry farms. The entire population is now facing a forced starvation policy and experiencing extreme hunger.
Your Donation Will Help Change This Reality by Providing Rooftop, Home, and Urban Vegetable Gardens through seedling and seed distribution for Vulnerable and Displaced Families in Northern Gaza who are subsisting on 245 calories a day.
What and Why?
I'm organizing this campaign to help support farmers and families in the areas of northern Gaza most impacted by Israel's ongoing war to start their own rooftop and home gardens-a small step towards self sufficiency and food sovereignty. All international and local aid agencies have had to evacuate from the north, leaving the population especially vulnerable, and whatever limited amounts of fresh produce and aid are available are sold astronomical prices.
How?
I spent months researching and consulting with agricultural experts in Gaza and abroad on the most secure and effective way to give Palestinians sustainable access to fresh produce.  Next, I partnered with with the Gaza Palestinian American Association and the Middle East Children's Alliance, both accredited 501(c)(3)  who are taking 0% overhead, as well as a team of community based partners in Gaza, who will be sourcing the supplies needed to start the home gardens locally and managing the project.
Our team on the ground has been working hard to source and start growing local seedlings to distribute to families, and other materials needed to provide them with the resources they desperately need to start their own home, rooftop, patio, and community vegetable gardens, depending on the spaces they have access to.  We will roll out the project in several phases, which each phase targeting 100 families.
Each family will receive:
* At least 30 assorted seasonal vegetables seedlings (Palestinian summer squash, hot peppers, eggplant, cucumber and tomatoes, depending on availability)
* 80 grams of local seeds (dill, mulukhiya, chard),
* Compost, soil, and amendments
* Plastic planters, irrigation cans, where needed
* Training and follow up by agriculture experts
Your donations will also help fund the purchase of several solar panel systems to power  community wells that communities rely on to drink and irrigate their gardens and farms with (currently, municipal access to water is limited to once every ten days, and well motors are inoperable due to an Israeli ban on the entry of fuel).
With your support, we can help Palestinian families sow the seeds of a brighter future, cultivate hope and grow some of their own food again!
Your donation is tax deductible and zakat eligible!  100% of the proceeds will go towards the project in Gaza!
Together, we will help families in the north grow healthy food for themselves, their neighbors and their friends!

Biomass vs. Solar Panels: Key Differences
As energy costs continue to rise, more Australians are turning to renewable energy sources to power their homes and businesses. At Green Machine Solar & Electrical, we aim to provide top-notch solutions that help reduce energy bills and promote sustainability. Among the most popular renewable energy sources are biomass and solar panels. Understanding the key differences between these two options can help you make an informed decision about which energy solution is right for you.
What is Biomass Energy?
Biomass energy is generated from organic materials like wood, agricultural crops, and animal waste. These materials are burned or converted into biofuels, which can then be used to produce electricity, heat, or transportation fuels. Biomass is considered renewable because the organic materials used can be replenished relatively quickly.
What are Solar Panels?
Solar panels, on the other hand, convert sunlight directly into electricity using photovoltaic (PV) cells. When sunlight hits the PV cells, it excites electrons, creating an electric current. Solar panels are installed on rooftops or open spaces where they can receive maximum sunlight.
Key Differences Between Biomass and Solar Panels
1. Source of Energy
Biomass: Utilizes organic materials which can be sourced from various wastes, making it a way to recycle and reuse.
Solar Panels: Rely solely on sunlight, making them dependent on weather conditions and geographical location.
2. Installation and Maintenance
Biomass: Requires space for storage of organic materials and a system for converting these materials into energy. The installation can be complex and may require ongoing maintenance to manage the biomass supply.
Solar Panels: Installation involves placing panels on rooftops or other structures. At Green Machine Solar, our experienced technical team ensures that the installation process is straightforward and hassle-free. Maintenance is minimal, primarily involving regular cleaning and occasional checks.
3. Environmental Impact
Biomass: While it recycles organic waste, burning biomass can release carbon dioxide and other pollutants. However, the net carbon footprint is generally lower than fossil fuels.
Solar Panels: Generate clean energy with no emissions during operation. They represent one of the most environmentally friendly energy solutions available today.
4. Cost
Biomass: Initial setup costs can be high due to the need for specialized equipment. Ongoing costs include purchasing and transporting organic materials.
Solar Panels: The solar panel installation cost in Victoria varies based on system size and installation specifics. At Green Machine Solar, we offer competitive pricing and can help you take advantage of government incentives to reduce upfront costs. Over time, solar panels can lead to significant savings on energy bills, making them a cost-effective long-term investment.

The Best Solar Power Inverter: What Smart Buyers Need to Know in 2025
Tumblr media
If you’re planning to install a solar power system in 2025, you’ve likely been bombarded with advice about panel efficiency, warranties, and government rebates. But there’s one crucial component many people overlook—the solar power inverter.
At Electrical Masters, we’ve helped hundreds of homeowners and businesses across Victoria build reliable, high-performing solar systems. And time and again, we see that choosing the right inverter can make or break your investment.
So let’s dive into what makes the best solar power inverter and how to ensure your solar setup runs smoothly for years to come.
Why the Inverter Matters More Than You Think
Most solar panel systems are only as good as their weakest part—and in many cases, that’s the inverter. This small but powerful device converts the DC electricity your panels generate into AC electricity your appliances can use.
A poor-quality inverter can lead to:
Lower energy output
Higher long-term costs
System failures
Poor grid compatibility
In contrast, the best solar power inverters optimise performance, reduce energy losses, and provide real-time monitoring of your system’s health.
How to Recognise a High-Quality Solar Inverter
When evaluating inverter options, here are the five core features that separate great from average:
1. High Conversion Efficiency
Look for inverters with 95% or higher efficiency. This ensures you’re not wasting solar energy during conversion.
2. Smart Monitoring
Choose inverters with WiFi-enabled dashboards or apps so you can track performance, get alerts, and detect faults early.
3. Hybrid/Battery Compatibility
Planning to add a battery later? Go with a hybrid inverter that’s storage-ready. It’s more cost-effective than replacing the inverter later.
4. CEC Approval & Warranty
Only choose Clean Energy Council (CEC)-approved inverters with at least a 10-year ’warranty. This gives you peace of mind that your system complies with Australian standards.
5. Brand Reputation & Local Support
Stick to proven brands with strong support in Australia. If something goes wrong, you want parts and service available locally — not overseas.
Top Solar Inverter Brands to Consider in Australia (2025)
Here are some of the leading brands trusted by licenced installers like Electrical Masters:
Fronius—durable, efficient, and a favourite in high-performance systems.
Enphase—Offers panel-level control using microinverters. Ideal for shaded or complex roofs.
SolarEdge – Combines central inverters with optimizers for maximum output.
Sungrow – Affordable and reliable. Great value for money.
GoodWe – Strong contender for hybrid systems with solar batteries.
Each brand serves a slightly different purpose, so the best choice depends on your home, roof design, and energy usage.
Which Type of Inverter Is Right for You?
There are three common types of inverters used in residential and commercial solar systems:
a. String Inverters
These are connected to multiple panels in a chain. They’re affordable and reliable — but if one panel underperforms (e.g. due to shading), it affects the whole system.
Best for: Simple, unshaded rooftops.
b. Microinverters
Installed under each panel, they allow individual optimisation. Shading or panel failure won’t affect others.
Best for: Complex or shaded roof designs.
c. Hybrid Inverters
These can handle both solar input and battery storage. They’re ideal if you want energy independence or plan to add a battery in the future.
Best for: Homes or businesses planning for battery backup or off-grid potential.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing an Inverter
Choosing by price alone—cheap inverters often come with poor efficiency, limited warranty, and zero support.
Ignoring monitoring features—you can’t manage what you can’t measure. Always choose inverters with live performance monitoring Not planning for storage— A standard inverter may work today, but if you want to add a battery later, you’ll face costly upgrades. Hybrid = future-proof.
Hiring unlicensed installers – Even a top-tier inverter will underperform if installed incorrectly. Choose CEC-accredited teams like Electrical Masters.

Nashville Millionaire Renter Boom Redefines Local Market
Tumblr media
The Rise of Nashville's Ultra-Wealthy RentersNashville's housing market continues to evolve, and a notable shift has emerged in the city's rental environment. More ultra-wealthy residents are opting to lease rather than purchase properties. The city has seen a 7.3% share of wealthy renters. This marks a 0.3 percentage point increase since 2019.This trend aligns with patterns seen in 35 of the nation's 50 largest metropolitan areas. Rising home prices and shifting rental preferences have driven this transformation. With mortgage rates near 7%, many affluent buyers are reconsidering their housing options.Affluent individuals now prioritize urban lifestyle flexibility over traditional property ownership. Downtown and Southeast Nashville submarkets have become particularly attractive to high-income renters. The dynamics in Nashville mirror region-specific disparities in homeownership and housing trends that contribute to variability in market conditions. These areas offer proximity to cultural amenities, entertainment venues, and outdoor recreational spaces. This demographic shift reflects a fundamental change in real estate status symbols. Luxury leasing options increasingly rival property ownership among Nashville's wealthy residents. As a result, renting is becoming a more popular choice in this affluent group.Luxury Amenities Attracting Million-Dollar TenantsNumerous luxury amenities are reshaping Nashville's high-end rental market. Million-dollar tenants now seek exceptional living experiences beyond traditional homeownership.Premium properties compete by offering sophisticated amenity packages. Features range from rooftop infinity pools to private spa facilities.Resort-style wellness centers are a major draw. They offer state-of-the-art fitness equipment, meditation rooms, and specialized treatment areas. These properties prioritize eco-friendly features such as energy-efficient windows and solar panels, appealing to sustainability-minded tenants and enhancing property value.Smart home systems enhance convenience. They provide remote control over lighting, climate, and security throughout residences.Exclusive social spaces elevate entertaining. These include wine rooms, private dining areas, and well-designed terraces.High-end properties also offer premier services. Concierge services, valet parking, and 24/7 security personnel are standard.Outdoor settings are equally luxurious. They feature fire pits, meditation gardens, and private cabanas.Properties like Cozy Cabin and Hickory Haven offer fully equipped kitchens for a true home-away-from-home experience.Sustainable features add to the appeal. Energy-efficient systems attract environmentally conscious affluent renters.Despite these innovations, the highest standards of luxury living remain unchanged.Market Dynamics Behind the Wealthy Renter SurgeNashville's surge in millionaire renters is driven by a complex mix of economic forces and demographic changes. These factors are reshaping the city's luxury housing market. The robust sectors in healthcare, technology, and entertainment attract high-income professionals. Elevated mortgage rates encourage wealthy buyers to remain in the rental market longer than usual. In the last two years, more than 25,000 new multifamily units have been completed. However, luxury inventory is limited in prime neighborhoods, keeping prices high. Affluent migration from high-cost coastal markets is creating substantial demand. Newcomers appreciate Nashville's relative affordability while maintaining upscale living standards. In areas like 12 South, Green Hills, and Germantown, competition is fierce. Limited luxury rental inventory meets growing demand from millionaire tenants. This scarcity, combined with strong economic fundamentals, indicates continued momentum in Nashville's high-end rental sector.Nashville's Position in the National Millionaire Rental TrendNashville's emergence as a millionaire renter destination marks a notable shift in the national luxury rental scene.
Though its numbers are modest compared to larger markets, it underscores a trend in Sun Belt markets. The city's millionaire renter households grew from zero to 30 by mid-2025. This aligns with broader affluent demographic trends reshaping the region's rental landscape. Three key metrics highlight Nashville's position. There is a 7.3% affluent renter share, up 0.3 percentage points since 2019. Since 2020, Nashville has added 26,000 new apartments. This expansion contributes significantly to its luxury inventory. Over six years, millionaire renter households jumped from 0 to 30. This suggests strategic market transformation despite Southern metros like Raleigh and Orlando leading with more dramatic increases. Nashville's measured growth places it within a national trend of wealthy renter migration to Sun Belt regions. Rising mortgage rates could reduce buyers’ purchasing power, further pushing affluent renters to seek luxury rentals. This is happening at a more controlled pace compared to competing markets, indicating a strategic shift.AssessmentNashville's dramatic shift toward wealthy renters signals a fundamental transformation in luxury housing dynamics. This emerging class of high-net-worth tenants is reshaping the city's residential environment. They are driving unprecedented demand for premium rental properties. The trend reflects broader national patterns. Affluent individuals are prioritizing flexibility over ownership. This positions Nashville at the forefront of an evolving real estate paradigm. Such changes could permanently alter traditional market assumptions about wealth and homeownership.
