SOUR TASTE IN EVERYONE’S MOUTH
SOUR TASTE IN EVERYONE’S MOUTH - https://keywestlou.com/sour-taste-in-everyones-mouth/Furor in the streets. Rebellious talk. Key Westers upset! The issue: Cost of tickets for Jimmy Buffett show at the Amphitheater 2/9 and 2/11. Being sold via Ticketmaster. First appeared as available last week at $99 for lawn and $149 for reserved seating. One week later, price of tickets now $475 for lawn and $3,700 for VIP seating. Current prices noted in a Citizens' Voice comment this morning. I wrote in my 1/18 blog that the opening prices were outlandish. In effect, screwing Key Westers. Remember, Key West built the Amphitheater. The 3,500 available seating area apparently not for locals. I was referring to the opening prices. The new ones beyond the reach of most locals. The few that can afford that kind of money will not spend it for a few hours of Buffett splendor. If the Key West Citizen wants to perform a service for its readers, it should do an investigatory story of how ticket sales came to be in the hands of Ticketmaster and how much the City gets as their cut. I'm sure Key West participates. If there is anything where people have a right to know, the pricing of Amphitheater tickets is the issue! I concluded in my 1/18 blog that Ticketmaster's openings cost for tickets left a sour taste in my mouth. I close today's blog with ".....it leaves a sour taste in everyone's mouth!" A doctor visit yesterday with my primary care physician Dr. Norris. First time in 7 months. The July Tampa operation left me down on the medical profession in general. I had been seeing tons of doctors. The way it is when you are in your mid 80's. So I said, Screw it! Stop doctoring. Does not make sense. I know it. My visit yesterday was recognition of my own stupidity. Ergo, I am back to doctoring. Next visit an appointment with my heart doctor. It was close to 5 when I left he doctor's office. Decided to grab a dinner out somewhere. Decided on Happy Hour at Roostica. I no longer drink. However the Happy Hour menu has been praised forever it seems by many. Time for me to try it. A good deal! I enjoyed limoncello wings. One of my favorites and a diet Pepsi. Total bill $13. I was impressed the place was almost completely full. People doing the specials and regular menu. I have always recommended Roostica. Best Italian restaurant in the area. The sauce is like my grandmother made. 'Nuff said. On this day in 1898, the Battleship Maine was ordered to sail to its death. It was anchored off the Tortugas when ordered to Havana Harbor where it ultimately was blown up. The death of the Maine gave birth to the Spanish-American War. Joseph Morton was an American war correspondent for the Associated Press in the European Theater during World War II. He was captured by German soldiers on 12/26/1944 while in a log cabin high on a mountain in Slovakia with 15 Allied intelligence officers. Morton was covering a U.S. operation for a story. Morton had war correspondent ID requiring him to be treated as a prisoner of war according to the Geneva Convention. The SS for some reason had ordered the summary execution of all "Allied commandos." Morton obviously was not one. Nevertheless, Morton was executed by firing squad this day in 1945 at Mauthausen-Gusen  Concentration Camp. Morton was the only Allied correspondent to be executed by the Axis during World War II. Another shooting. In California. The second in days. The mass shooting occurred in Half Moon Bay in two separate localities. Seven persons were killed. It is time to put an end to these slayings. I know, I am being repetitive as well as most of the U.S. population. Though Biden accomplished something re guns for the first time in 30 years, more has yet to be done. The U.S. is the only nation in the industrialized world that has the mass shooting problem. We have not been able to clean up the mess because of the Republican Party. Their own members even are unable to make the party move. The gun manufacturers own the Republican Party. Additionally, gun manufacturers for years have been brain washing gun purchasers. It has to stop! Blood should not flow on American streets! Love Bess Levin! She writes well. No bullshit. Calls them as she sees 'em. Levin wrote in Vanity Fair 1/23 re Ron DeSantis. The article titled "Ron DeSantis Believes In Free Speech As Long As You Only Speak About The Awesomeness Of Straight White People." How can DeSantis be elected President if he hates blacks? Is he building a mountain too high to climb? American voters are not stupid as was proven by the November 2022 election results. The man is crazy! I refer to George Santos. The latest revelation: He planned an engagement dinner to a man while married to a woman. The invitation to the dinner read: "Pedro and I have decided to join our tooth brushes." Enjoy your day!

Key West: Pt. II
We left Cuba at around 5:45 pm.  It was directly upwind to Key West, so we motored.  We motored on autopilot with only the main out for the entire trip, so it was a really easy passage.  We made it to Stock Island Marina by 9 am.
After we got settled in our slip, we took a taxi to the airport to check back into the US.  We had to bring a bag of our Cuban garbage with us for them to incinerate.  The process was surprisingly easy.  We just gave them our garbage and they checked our passports.  However, I’m sure much more was happening behind the scenes (since we had to call the Coast Guard while we were on our way back).
While we were at the airport we picked up a rental car.  We spent the afternoon on the boat, and then drove to Roostica (a really good pizzeria) for dinner.
The following day Mom did laundry, Dad cleaned the boat, Jack did schoolwork, and I worked on writing all of this.  That evening we drove to the grocery store and Dairy Queen (we are going to enjoy it while we have it).
The following day was Cinco de Mayo.  Mom and Dad went to Publix to provision for the Bahamas.  When they came back, the replacement pump for our watermaker had arrived, so Dad tested it out and made sure that the membranes hadn’t been damaged when the old one failed.  Since it was Cinco de Mayo, we went to Chico’s Cantina that evening for dinner.
We spent the 6th cleaning the boat, inside and out, and the 7th running errands to get the last things we needed before heading to the Bahamas.  That afternoon we stopped at Sandy’s Sandwich Shop and got Cuban sandwiches; ironically, they were way better than the ones we had eaten in Cuba.

Lunch at Sandy’s.
That afternoon, after we had returned to the boat, a group of people spotted a manatee swimming in the harbor.  We followed it as it swam down the length of all of the docks in the marina.
The next day we left for the Bahamas.  Before leaving the dock I quickly used a gold Sharpie to color in the lettering on the hull (the last few letters in “Celeris” had been rubbed off by the piling at the marina in Puerto Rico).

IAN BEAT UP LOBSTER TRAPS
IAN BEAT UP LOBSTER TRAPS - https://keywestlou.com/ian-beat-up-lobster-traps/A major Keys industry is lobstering. Spiny lobsters constitute a multimillion dollar business. China being its biggest customer. Traps built specially to capture the lobsters are required. An industry unto itself. Ian blew away/destroyed 80 percent of the traps. Traps were blown as far as 7 miles from their settings. One fisherman estimates he lost 1,500-2,000 traps. Traps presently cost $80 and more a piece. Two years ago, $40. The increase attributable to Ian. Two wood mills which make the traps are located in Arcadia, Florida. They were flooded. The cost pf rope has increased also. First, last year. More this year due to Ian. The final and new cost involves aerial reconnaissance. Planes are being utilized to search for traps blown away. They can be recovered and most used again. Planes were used for the first time following Irma. The expense getting the lobster industry back on its feet an expensive one. Federal and state assistance will be required. I have to smile when I read the criticism being heaped on Fort Myers for purported delay in calling for a mandatory evacuation. I have no idea whether Fort Myers did wrong.  My initial reaction is in any disaster someone is sought to blame. Fort Myers may be such a victim. It called for mandatory evacuation after adjoining areas did. Less then 24 hours involved. Let me share my thoughts re mandatory evacuation. Few leave. The residents have been through hurricane warnings for years. In many, told to evacuate. Initially did. Nothing happened. The hurricane missed them or was insignificant so they could have remained. People get tired of leaving and nothing happens. No easy task evacuating. Then there are those who cannot afford to leave or have nowhere to go. Assume all heed the warning and evacuate. They can't. Insufficient gas available. No question about it. Those that do leave find themselves bumper to bumper for hours. Stopped because of accidents, too much traffic, emergency vehicles, etc. Traffic does not move fast. I recall Georges. It took me 17 hours to get to Miami. Three hours to get to Big Pine alone. Big Pine 30 miles north of Key West. The traffic signal at the main intersection was working. Traffic was two lanes north. The south bound lane had been made north bound. The cross roads in Big Pine had next to no traffic. However the north bound traffic on US 1 was held up by the light. People stupidly stopped for it. Judge with a grain of salt. Everything/person Trump touches he destroys/corrupts. The court system next. Including the Supreme Court. The Mar-a-Lago documents case an example. Now he is trying to get the Supreme Court involved. Believing of course his friends like Thomas and the others he appointed owe him and will rule his way. The court system was not and is not intended to work that way. Justice supposedly blind. Congratulations to New York Yankee Aaron Judge. He broke Roger Maris' American League home run record yesterday. Maris' record of 61 home runs had stood for 61 years. Judge hit #62 last night. Barry Bonds hit 73 home runs in 2001. However it was discovered he used steroids. He has yet to make it to the Hall of Fame. His last chance comes this December. I do not believe he belongs. He cheated. The Daily Correspondent 10/3/22 reported: Archeologists In Greece Unearth 'Larger-Than-Life' Statue of Hercules. Two thousand years old. In a dig in the town of Philippe located in Northern Greece. I'm not surprised. I have spent much time in Greece. As long as two months at a time. Traveled the country a bit. Everywhere I went, they were digging. Unearthing whole cities, neighborhoods, artifacts, etc. Greece is antiquity itself. Worth seeing. Lunched at Roostica yesterday. Limoncello wings. Always delicious! Today plan on lunching at Harpoon Harry's. Turkey special. Thanksgiving dinner. Always delicious, also! Lunching out today because of voodoo massage at 4. Vast improvement since begun. Not sure if it will ever be complete. Enjoy your day!

THE WEATHER.....KEY WEST AND ERIE, PA.
The weather outside is frightful…..
For Key West, no. Erie, Pa., yes.
A magnificent Christmas week weather wise. Eighty by day, 70 by night. No humidity. No air conditioning required at night. Open the bedroom window and let the cool ocean breeze flow in.
Erie, Pa. another story! Four feet of snow over a 48 hour period 12/25-12/26.
Erie no stranger to heavy snow falls. However, the four feet was the most ever.
I remember 4 feet snowfalls in Utica. Got one every 10 years or so. Pretty. Disruptive, however. The City closed down. No driving, no work. Could be 2 days before you got out of your house.
I loved the major snow storms. Family time. Parents and children confined at home together. A time to rebond.
My day yesterday began at the opticians. Still having vision problems with the new glasses. Second prescription. Worse than the first.
I return this morning for additional tests.
Worked  at organizing last night’s podcast in the afternoon. Tuesday Talk with Key West Lou.
An early dinner at Roostica.
No question it is Christmas time. The busiest time of the year in Key West. Roostica packed to the walls inside and out.
Tried to do a different show last night. One where Donald Trump is never mentioned. I did well. Slipped into a brief Trump comment only 3 times.
The introductory story was one I reported first on this blog last week. The story of the prematurely born female twins.
One not making it. Death inevitable. Placed in incubator next to her sister who was doing well. The healthy twin threw an arm over her sick sister. The sick sister’s recovery began immediately.
The twins 22 years old today. Lovely young ladies leading full lives.
The help of a sister and the grace of God responsible.
A poor stone crab season.  A very poor one.
Law of economics at work. Few stone crabs available, high prices.
The fishermen cannot find enough stone crabs. It is believed Irma disrupted the ocean floor and who knows where they ended up. Another reason suggested is that there has not been a cold front yet. A cold front is required to move stone crabs closer to shore.
Small stone crabs going for $8 a piece. Jumbo’s, $28 a piece.
Too expensive.
Syracuse/E. Michigan tonight. I will watch from the comfort of my bed. Syracuse a 12 point underdog.
I doubt many would disagree with me if I referred to Trump as an egomaniac. He may get his rocks off again. In Jerusalem.
Israel owes Trump. He is moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. The action to the Israelis indicates Trump recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
They refer to Trump’s decision re the Embassy as a “brave decision.”
Jerusalem’s Western Wall is the holiest of Jewish places. A high speed railway is soon to be constructed which will run to the Western Wall. Construction to take 4 years. Cost, $700 million.
Strong support exists to name the train station at the Wall after Trump.
He is better deserving in my opinion for a subway train station in the middle of the Bronx to be renamed after him. One in a black/latino neighborhood.
Enjoy your day!

CROCODILE ON KEY WEST GOLF COURSE
There is a new crocodile on the Key West Golf Course. Nature is reclaiming its turf.
I first became aware by reason of a comment in Citizens’ Voice this morning. Claimed a 7 footer was in the lake by the 12th hole.
Not a lake. A pond. There is a long wide one that runs between the 12th and 18th holes.
I just telephoned Don to verify the existence of the crocodile. Don plays twice a week.
There is a crocodile. He’s seen it. It’s a big one, he says. Eight feet. Big head.
Beware! Golfers stay away from the water or bushes that run along side here and there. If you hit a ball into the shallow water or bushes, kiss it good bye. Better the ball than your arm!
There will be several Memorial Day ceremonies today and tomorrow. The first already occurred at 9 this morning. I am writing this blog at 9:30.
The Cemetery one is at the Battleship Maine Memorial. Always touching. I have done it twice over the years.
There will also be a ceremony or two at Bayview Park. I drive by and if I see a crowd, stop. More emotional than the Cemetery one. Even though all ceremonies this day are to honor those who fought in all wars. It may be because the Bayview ceremonies remember those who fought in more recent wars, as well as other ones.
Visited Lisa and family yesterday for a while. Robert and Ally taller each time I see them.
Robert and Ally both have birthdays this time of the year. I was to take them to lunch today as part of the celebration. Lisa just telephoned and said today would be no good. Robert did a sleep over last night and is beat.
A quiet dinner alone at the bar at Roostica last night. Crowded. It’s the holiday weekend. Enjoyed the newspapers.
The multi-talented Bria Ansara is an art teacher at Montessori. Robert and Ally studied under her this year.
Bria put the kids to work. Had them spend the term painting a 420 square foot 6 panel mural. Bria had each student select a local flora/fauna. Then paint it on the mural.
The mural is done. It was exhibited to the public yesterday for the first time. It hangs at the school and is available for viewing by appointment. Call Montessori principal Lyn Barras to schedule.
This war room thing is stupid. Dangerous for White House persons under investigation.
Defense in a case that is being investigated/prepared by Special Counsel Mueller and two Congressional Committees is not a team effort. It is every person for himself. In court house vernacular, every rat for himself.
If under investigation, your only counsel and confident is your attorney. You live or die by him.
In investigations of this nature, it is generally a race to offer evidence in return for immunity or a shorter sentence. Flynn is no fool in this regard.
If there is to be a war room, an attorney should head it. It might give availability to the attorney-client privilege were its members subpoenaed later on to testify as to what went on in the war room.
There is no thing as a war room in legal jargon or understanding. Another example of Trump doing something stupid on his own.
Enjoy your day!
