Views of the Maumee River and Grassy Island from today's hike at Island View Park in Rossford. We saw many signs of spring: flowers and vegetation, trees bursting into leaf, and lots of birds.

These large white wading birds are probably egrets. I didn't see any herons although they are also in the area.

Avery Matthew Schwartz, Ohio inmate A746352, born 1996, incarceration intake in 2018 at age 21, scheduled for release 04/28/2031

Rape

In May 2018, a Rossford man who was charged with rape was sentenced to five years in prison.

Avery Schwartz, 21, pleaded no contest and was found guilty of rape for assaulting a 21-year-old woman the prior September. According to court records, the two were on their second date when the assault occurred.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge James Bates also told Schwartz he must serve a mandatory five year probation after his prison sentence and he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

"I'm truly sorry," Schwartz said to Judge Bates. "I really had feelings for her and didn't mean to hurt her."

Schwartz was arrested on a new charge of rape Saturday after he allegedly assaulted another 21-year-old woman on that previous Friday.

According to court documents, he was out of jail on a $100,000 bond when the alleged incident took place.

Avery was sentenced to an additional 8 years for the second offense.

Abilities: Wears a suit of powered armor based on "borrowed" prototype schematics for the New York City-based supervillain Rhino modified for extreme cold weather conditions. Armor grants Rossford enhanced strength, durability, and the ability to withstand temperatures below -128.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Skilled boxer and mechanical engineer with a specialization in robotics and power armor related to the maintenance/modification of his own suit. Twin shoulder-mounted metal blades commonly referred to as "tusks" make grappling with Rossford difficult even for opponents with the strength and size to take him on. Decently good at organizing groups of underlings due to upbringing. Has an online degree in agricultural sciences thanks to an educational initiative for felons during one of his prison stays.

Weaknesses: As with the original rhino suit it was based on, the mastodon armor is difficult to remove, which means Jared can't easily hide to live on the lam or go underground for long. The weight of the suit means Rossford can't walk on anything not rated to handle the weight of a pickup truck without falling through the floor. Can't swim for obvious reasons. Can't reach his own back. Can't make sharp turns once he begins charging in one direction.

Origin: Son of a crime lord and descended from a long line of Chicago-based criminals, the recent uptick in the superhero population put the family business in a rough place. Calling in a few favors from old friends in NYC and the American military Jared's father got a comprehensive writeup of the Rhino's suit and shelved plans for a life-support system developed for subzero combat. Mr. Rossford pressured his son (whose degrees in mechanical engineering had seemed useless before) to build him an enforcer to keep the family on top of the local underworld, and so Jared merged the two technologies. There was only one person Rossford senior believed he could trust with power like that, and so Jared was forced to don the mastodon armor. Now Jared acts as his father's muscle, although there are signs he would abandon his life of crime if he could. Sadly it's hard to get honest work in a bulletproof elephant costume. His girlfriend still holds out hope for him though

Also had a glass of "Damn, Feelings" a beer for @chaylahope new album! 8% ABV NEIPA. 2nd Stop was @glbc_cleveland for a pint of Christmas Ale! 1st one of the season! So good! And last stop (technically) for beer at least. @mastheadbrewing !! ...They have a ton of big barrel-aged stouts on tap! My eyes were super heavy from alot of numbing. Anything to sooth the pain haha. The bartender poured my the strongest on tap! Win! "The Anti-Life Equation" a 16.2% ABV Blantons Barrel Aged Stout. Omg amazing! Also the bartender poured me a taster of the Coffee Vanilla Sunkiller... 15.8% ABV. I slept the entire way back home. Until we stopped for the Grand Opening of @raisingcanes in Rossford! Summer Trip 2023 Day 2

The day dawned a bit clearer than yesterday and I was able to get decent photos of the river my hotel was on (although my room clearly did not have a river view as you could see from yesterday's post!):

The full day's drive was an easy 454 miles with light smoke from the Canadian wildfires the entire way, making me think my glasses were dirty. After a stop in Sandusky OH, I ended the day in Rossford OH.

Rather than getting back on I-90 after leaving Sandusky, I kept to secondary roads and thus was treated to nice views of Sandusky Bay (but with nowhere to stop for a decent photo):

There was even more water to the left, but I thought the view to the right was more interesting -- too bad it doesn't show well here.

Tomorrow will see me back on I-90 to the Chicago area, where I'll pick up I-80 and that route will be my friend for many days.
