R, if they knew about your ask:

R. Verner feels the exact same way should something/someone ever dare to hurt you, operating off of a vicious instinct to protect their beloved. (We'll have to see if that happens at some point in the series and just how far they'd go. 👀 ) They would find your action on their behalf irresistible and hot, but they'd also be touched that you care for them that deeply. R wouldn't quite know how to react—smitten yet turned on and feeling so much! (Too much?) Making a flirtatious remark about you being more smouldering than the corrupted spriggan's corpse paired with a saucy wink is one way to go. They teasingly skim their fingers along your wrist, capturing your hand to keep you close by their side. It's then that R's smile softens for you.

(Meanwhile, S and B are standing there like: 🫢😲 while you're sharing a moment that's sweeter than the s'mores at the bonfire you're at where you reveal why you slowly burned 'Mr. Grinch' for R.)

“Reese or Ruby Verner is a RO from the Fernweh Saga, which is a low horror interactive fiction game (text based) where the MC returns to their creepy hometown after leaving as a teen. R. Verner is the MC's childhood rival - they used to compete on everything, but it's heavily implied that R wanted the MC's attention and didn't know how to initiate a friendship. When the MC arrives back in town, R notices them immediately and the MC has the option to immediately flirt, be friendly or deny their attraction (OH NO, THEY'RE HOT, the funniest route choice, come on). The MC is only in town for a week to take care of their deceased grandfather's things, so the romance is in it's early stages - I wouldn't say it is slow burn, it's more like a set up/building the foundations for a relationship. R. Verner can be sarcastic and teasing, although they can show a softer side with an MC who is sincere. They play the piano and have a cat and while they present an aloof demeanor to the town, they are playful with their friend Sofia/Silas (also gender selectable) and stands up immediately for the MC when people are rude to the MC. Happy Birthday Everly! 🎂

I was trying to decide (my Fernweh Saga MC) Everly's birthday awhile back ago using this post and this one as a guide, so I decided to try making a timeline, or well, listing the birthdays in order of age anyway.

(The years are just for examples, NOT canon).

So, in order from oldest to youngest (removing Ms. Verner and Mrs. Dorran because I have no idea of their ages):

Mal: May 26th (????-1999), Gemini. ♊ Hawthorn (The Illusionist)

J: July 2nd (1999), Cancer. ♋ Oak (The Stabilizer)

R: November 22nd (1999), Sagittarius (the Scorpio-Sagittarius cusp). ♐ Reed (The Inquisitor)

S: February 8th (2000), Aquarius. ♒ Rowan (The Thinker)

Everly: February 29th (2000), Pisces. ♓ Ash (The Enchanter)

B: October 17th (2001), Libra. ♎ Ivy (The Survivor)

A: March 4th (2002-2003), Pisces. ♓ Ash (The Enchanter)

R got the year before S and MC simply because generally that late in the year, if R was born the same example year as the MC (2000), R would have ended up in the school year/grade under MC because the birthday cut off date is usually August or September iirc (if they are in the USA anyway), and if I'm not mistaken they are meant to be in the same grade school year as both S and MC. So keeping them in the same grade got priority over keeping their birthdays in the same year.

I also have it on good authority (I asked the author and got permission to share the answer) that A is younger than B by a year or so and Mal is older than the MC (though I don't know by how much). So Mal gets a range starting with question marks for their birth year, and A got a range that makes them one to two years younger than B.

Forgive me for not tagging Mal but I'd rather tag them by name rather than Waiter and Waitress but since we don't have their names yet I can't tag them.

I recently received these two fun questions from the Forum: 

“1 - will there be a second tea vs cocoa vs coffee showdown in B2?, and 2 - Is there an in-universe reason as to why Ruby is specifically called Ruby?”

So, I thought I would make a quick post to share their answers here too! :D

1. The MC's drink choice will indeed come up a few times during Book Two! A tea party will require them to indulge in some tea one (1) time, but I'm certain the individual who meticulously planned it included something for your MC's tastes. A minor spoiler: For certain readers, Judith (the little girl you can meet in Book One) will weigh-in on the battle of hot drinks. It can be a cute/funny scene to trigger. 😀

2. Here's what I've said about Ruby's and Reese's names when revealing part of why I selected them. All of the names in TFS tend to have deeper meanings. 

Ruby

It has Latin origins from 'ruber' (red) or 'rubinous', but both mean a deep red precious stone. This name holds a certain sultry elegance along with the stone itself that has had more staying power than other names that relate to jewelry or precious materials.

Reese

Meanings such as ardor, passion, and fiery are all embedded in this name, which pairs well with R's character, especially if you read a particular exchange with Mrs. Dorran in Book Two during an evening excursion. It has a Welsh origin. 

These names just seem made for R as a character! Although I think they can take on even deeper meanings on their romance route where they can express ardent feelings for the MC and show how much they treasure them above all of the Verner glitz. While their character color is more so black than red, we do see a link with Angelique and how R does also favor reds, purples, and more traditionally aristocratic pops of color. There is also a spoiler element to R's name that I'm sure will hit many of you in the feels once you figure it out. 🙃 It's fully revealed in Book Three, but there are hints even in Book Two.

My relative silence on social media might make some of you wonder if I am in fact lost in Fernweh. 🌲The answer is a resounding 'yes'; I've been engaging in a constant and steady writing blitz to then hopefully return to answer questions and better engage closer to a demo drop and tentative release date, etc. It brings me so much happiness to write; it's my outlet, so that's my utmost priority aside from some family care-giving/time together and my cat*, of course.

(*Yes, he is also included in the family. He just gets a special mention.)
