Lakers take Game 3 from the start
Tumblr media
LOS ANGELES (News4usonline) - The Los Angeles Lakers dominated the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 3 of their playoff series Saturday night, coming away with a 111-101 win. The Lakers now lead the series 2-1. Crypto.com Arena was roaring as the Lakers fought hard for the first round playoff win at home. The Lakers got off to an aggressive start in the first quarter creating, jumping out to a 20-point lead early in the first quarter. The game was essentially over then. Fourth quarter starts now pic.twitter.com/GDAjOg3AnD— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) April 23, 2023 The Grizzlies didn’t know what hit them as they were only able to generate nine points in the first period. Yes, nine. When the quarter ended, the Lakers had already built up a 35-9 advantage. By jumping on the Grizzlies the way that they did, the Lakers posted the largest lead after the first quarter in NBA postseason history. The Lakers slammed the Grizzlies into the ground during the beginning of the game, running circles around the Western Conference’s No. 2-seeded team and making them look inexperienced and helpless. Lakers head coach Darvin Ham talked about team’s great defensive play in the first quarter during a postgame press conference. “That was something we touched yesterday in practice,” Ham said. “ Just establishing a defensive minded physical tone and just dig in and multiple efforts, activity, being ready, transition defense is key...and then trying to finish a possession with a rebound.” For the Lakers, Anthony Davis re-introduced himself to the Grizzlies with a huge effort. Davis showed up and showed out, clocking in with a team-high 31 points. He was dominant on the boards as well, picking up 17 rebounds. LeBron James contributed 25 points and collected 9 rebounds to aid the big game that Davis had. Not too bad of an outing for an “old” man. “It’s important for us to play well,” James said after the game. “We want to play better than we did in game two, but I think we did that. But we still have room for improvement going into game four and we know they’re going to be better as well.” With Davis and James having solid all-around games, the Lakers’ top players got some help. D’Angelo Russell clocked in with 17 points, four rebounds and seven assists. Rui Hachimura chipped in 16 points for the purple and gold. In the start of the second quarter, Hachimura had more points (10) than Memphis had on the scoreboard. The Lakers were on fire. High energy and great defense keyed the Lakers getting out fast. The Lakers maintained their large lead when halftime rolled around, going into intermission with a 53-37 lead. Memphis seemed to be overwhelmed by the Lakers’ fast start, putting a dent in the Grizzlies’ Alpha attitude they came out of the gate with. Combined their terrible first quarter along the super loud atmosphere in Crypto, it was clear that it was going to be a long night for Ja Morant and his teammates. The Lakers and their fans got a slight scare when James went down in the beginning of the second half after Memphis guard/forward Dillon Brooks hit the Lakers superstar in the groin. That play was called as a flagrant foul (2) against Brooks, who wound up getting tossed out of the game for the low blow. The drama filled game continued with more aggression and altercations. Hachimura later got into a skirmish with Memphis players David Roddy and John Konchar. Konchar pushed Hachimura as he was running down the court for a play. At the end of the game, Davis addressed the bad blood that appears to spill over from both teams. “We just want to take care of the home floor,” Davis said. “You know, we’re not getting into the back and forth, we let our game speak for ourselves...the trash talk is going to be there with the guys that they have. It’s playoff basketball, we wouldn’t expect anything less from them.” Read the full article

LeBron James credits Lakers' supporting cast for Game 1 win
Tumblr media
LeBron James credits Lakers' supporting cast for Game 1 win The Los Angeles Lakers entered the fourth quarter of Sunday's Game 1 of their first-round series against the Memphis Grizzlies clinging to a six-point lead. In the first 11 minutes of the final frame, LeBron James and Anthony Davis attempted just one shot apiece. And yet L.A. ran away with a 128-112 victory as a bench player and a guy who went undrafted out of college just two years ago took over. Rui Hachimura scored nine of his 29 points in the fourth, tying Mychal Thompson's Lakers franchise record for most points by a substitute in a playoff game. Austin Reaves went 5-for-5 in the fourth, including scoring nine straight points late in the quarter, en route to 23 points total. "It was our supporting cast that won us the game tonight," said James, who had 21 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. The Lakers needed the extra effort from their roster with things looking dicey at halftime. Davis, who finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds, 7 blocks and 3 steals to become the first player since Tim Duncan nearly 20 years ago to put up that type of postseason statline, suffered a stinger to his right shoulder and had to exit the game late in the second quarter. The Lakers trailed by six at the time. Then Hachimura went 4-for-4 from 3 in six minutes of playing time in the third quarter and L.A. was back in control. The fourth-year forward, acquired in a trade with Washington in late January, said they were all shots he specifically practiced coming into the series, with Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy scouting the gaps in the Grizzlies' defense that Hachimura could target. "The way they guard me, they're going to be in the paint so I got to be ready to shoot those kind of shots," Hachimura said. Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane confirmed as much, while directing a challenge toward Hachimura for Game 2. "That was our game plan going in -- make him hit shots and he did," Bane said. "Tip your cap. It's probably the best game he's had in his career. It's a seven-game series. Let's see if he can do it again Wednesday." Reaves, who signed a two-way contract with the Lakers in the summer of 2021 after he went undrafted out of Oklahoma and was later converted to a full-fledged member of the team before the season began, closed things out. "You dream about being on a stage like this," Reaves said. "And I got hot late and I had fun." It was the first time the Lakers had four players score 20 or more in the playoffs since May 15, 1988, when James Worth, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Byron Scott did it. And D'Angelo Russell (19 points, seven assists) nearly made it five. While L.A. won 10 of its past 12 games, including Tuesday's play-in win over Minnesota to secure the No. 7 seed against No. 2 Memphis, there were signs of slippage. The Lakers didn't look sharp in their final four regular-season games, which included a loss to the Clippers, and their effort against Minnesota was disjointed at best and undisciplined at worst. Lakers coach Darvin Ham said his team used the four-day break between the win over the Wolves and Game 1 against Memphis to recalibrate. "The last week of the season or so, the play-in game, possessions got away from us," Ham said. "We threw away possessions with no pass or one pass and then shot." L.A. locked in after a team address by James and Davis about the increased intensity that the playoffs require, and seemingly has recaptured the momentum that got it to the playoffs in the first place. "How can we best extract the most production as we can out of this group?" Ham said, explaining the aim of the time off. "And this is how. This is what's going to work against this team and what we need to explore; this is what we need to leave to the side. I thought it was a combination of all of that -- being fresh and taking a deep, hard look at our offense and what's been good and what's been bad." While the Lakers started the series off with a statement win, stealing home-court advantage from the Grizzlies as they attempt to become the first No. 7 seed to pull off a first-round upset since San Antonio in 2010, James focused on some of the bad from Sunday. He pointed out that L.A.'s 16 turnovers led to 15 points for the Grizzlies and took responsibility for the five he had himself. "I thought the guys definitely understood that assignment and were really good tonight," James said. "But I think we can be even better." Read the full article

More help for LeBron from Lakers revamped roster Lakers GM Pelinka says | NBA
More help for LeBron from Lakers’ revamped roster, Lakers GM Pelinka says | NBA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScEjj3QJHdc LeBron James is once again getting to the gym at dawn and putting in long hours as he prepares to begin his 21st NBA season. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka believes he has assembled a roster that will allow the top scorer in NBA history to rest a little bit easier this year. “I think we were very intentional about the versatility that this roster has, the depth that the roster has,” Pelinka said Thursday. “I think there’s upgrades (in) spacing and shooting, top to bottom. That was all done knowing LeBron is going into the 21st year. We have to partner with him to help him get all the way to the end, because that’s his goal. Adding the depth, the versatility, the shooting, all of those things are going to help us manage that.” Indeed, the Lakers kept most of last season’s roster and supplemented it with several promising additions in a bid to build a complete contender around James and Anthony Davis, who will lead their teammates back to training camp next week. After watching his team go 18-8 out of the trade deadline before winning a play-in game and two postseason rounds, Pelinka wanted to see what this group could do with a full year together. With full seasons from midseason acquisitions D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt and Rui Hachimura alongside five new veterans, the Lakers appear to have their strongest roster since raising their last championship banner in late 2020. The Lakers start their new season on 25th October with a trip to the new champions Denver Nuggets. Visit the WeShow Football store: https://www.youtube.com/weshowfootball/store LIKE our videos? In a blockbuster deal, the Lakers trade for the Knicks' Julius Randle
Tumblr media
The last few years of the Los Angeles Lakers' past have been very interesting. Few NBA teams have changed as much as this one has. Even if a team is rebuilding, they might think about selling their young core for a superstar. So, they think LeBron James will only sign with them if they're still trying to get better.
The Lakers lost because of this. Put it down to the Lakers being different. This is one of the league's best names and biggest markets. Most of the time, a good player will want to play for the Lakers. James was a big name. After he signed with them, it was clear that they should trade their young core for Anthony Davis.
Still, the Lakers traded away a lot of guys who went on to have great careers. Since leaving L.A., Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Larry Nance Jr., and Josh Hart have all been great. Julius Randle of the New York Knicks has also been great. Could he one day play for the Lakers again?
The Trade Proposal
New York Knicks Receive: G D'Angelo Russell, F Rui Hachimura, G Jalen Hood-Schifino, C Jaxson Hayes, 2029 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: F C Isaiah Hartenstein and Julius Randle
The Knicks' recent past has been very different. In some ways, the Knicks have been known for what they didn't do, while the Lakers have been known for what they did. This team almost did things, but they have yet to go through with them.
Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were meant to play for New York. In the end, the two stars turned down the Knicks and joined the Brooklyn Nets, a city foe of the Knicks. The Knicks were then expected to trade for Donovan Mitchell. The Cleveland Cavaliers were faster and caught up to them. How has everything gone for New York?
Rather well. Last season, the Knicks made it to the second round of the playoffs. This team has kept up with the competition and kept all of its properties. Should Randle be moved now?
Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
Some new rumors have given rise to this idea. Randle has just switched from CAA to WME sports. Why does it matter that he changed sides? Well, CAA is very close to Leon Rose, the president of the Knicks.
Does that mean that Randle is going to leave New York? In no way. Still, it gives people a chance to guess. Also, this is not the first time we've talked about how the Knicks might trade Randle. As brilliant as he is, he is very hard to predict—Randle's production changes from one game to the next and from one season to the next. Here, the Knicks have decided that enough is enough.
In the process, they might go backward. Still, they would be getting more money. This first-round pick is very important because it is far away, and the Lakers are getting older. When you add in interesting young players like Hachimura and Hayes, the Knicks might decide to move on from their star forward. Should the Lakers take on a guy with so many ups and downs?
Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
Randle may not always be the same. That could be a result of him having too much on his plate. He was the first choice in New York, and Randle might not be the right person for that job. On the other hand, he would be one of the best third-string players in the NBA. That would be his job for the Lakers.
Randle, on the other hand, could be a better defense. In Los Angeles, that wouldn't be a big deal. Anthony Davis is one of the best players at the back of the defense in the league. He could make up for Randle's weaknesses on that end of the court. Randle would make the Lakers much more exciting to watch on offense.
He would have such an effect that they wouldn't miss Russell all that much. Randle is also a player like that. Lastly, he would take Hachimura's place in the starting group. Overall, this trade should help the Lakers become a better team. It could help them win the Larry O'Brien Trophy for the second time in recent history.

Warriors beat Wizards in Tokyo, James Wiseman and Rui Hachimura shine
After a hectic but still endless offseason, we were super happy to get up this morning with an NBA game on the program. This afternoon, the Warriors and the Wizards actually kicked off the pre-season as part of the NBA Japan Games, enough to get back in the bath while waiting for the start of the regular in three weeks. Oh that feels good! How good it feels to see NBA basketball again, especially…

Hachimura gives Lakers a spark
Tumblr media
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Rui Hachimura saw his minutes increase in February after being inserted into the starting lineup, and it has paid off for the Lakers. He averaged 14.5 points per game on 56.5 percent shooting from the field and 44.2 percent from three over the last month. Hachimura is the kind of role player that fits perfectly into the Lakers rotation. Defensively, he is big and athletic enough to guard multiple positions effectively. Offensively, he can knock down open threes, find his spots in the mid-range, and drive the ball to the hoop.
Tumblr media
Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimua (center), seen here in a pregame ceremony, has given the purple and gold valuable minutes as the NBA's regular season wind down to a close. Photo credit" Mark Hammond courtesy of The Bulletin "He works tirelessly on his game. The team captains, Bron and AD, are constantly encouraging him to be aggressive. The coaching staff, starting with myself, encourage him to be aggressive, but also be mindful of the details, and be a two-way player," said Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham before the team's 134-131 overtime win against the Washington Wizards. Anthony Davis is the defensive leader on the team. Still, with Jared Vanderbilt out and Cam Reddish on minutes restriction after returning from injury, Los Angeles is shorthanded when it comes to on-ball defenders. Hachimura is often asked to guard the best player on opposing teams, something he is capable of. "He has had some tough matchups recently with KD and Kawhi. He is taking those steps in that department of being a formidable on-ball defender, knowing what we are doing when he is off the ball, and making sure he is executing his assignments," said Ham. Playing against the team that traded him to Los Angeles last year, Hachimura's defensive matchup was Washington leading scorer Kyle Kuzma. Hachimura rendered Kuzma ineffective for most of the game. Kuzma did get going in the fourth quarter, but that was when Washington started using him in the screen action to force the Lakers to switch defenders. In their comeback win over the Clippers on Feb. 28, Hachimura scored 17 points, including dropping in a clutch go-ahead 3-pointer. Last year in the playoffs, the forward proved he is a big game player who will consistently knock down shots when the pressure is on. In 21 career playoff games, Hachimura has made 57 percent of his shots and 52 percent from distance. It is a big enough sample size to conclude he can be relied upon in big moments, and his play was one of the reasons the Lakers made a deep playoff run last year.
Tumblr media
Rui Hachimura (28) has become a valued contributor and perhaps the best defender for the Los Angeles Lakers. Photo credit: Mark Hammond courtesy of The Bulletin "Offense is going to be there, he is fearless, he is willing to take big shots and make big shots and make decisions with the ball when teams are trying to double Bron and AD," said Ham. "He is the outlet, and he does a great job when he makes quick decisions." With four of the five starters being LeBron James, Anthony Davis, D'Angelo Russell, and Austin Reaves, the Lakers lineup that starts and finishes games is comprised of players who can create their own shot. This allows Hachimura to sit in his pocket and come open when doubles teams are inevitably sent. To think that they acquired the talented forward for a bad Kendrick Nunn contract and three second-round picks from Washington seems like a steal. If Hachimura goes back to his bench role when Vanderbilt and Reddish ultimately return, he will be an extremely valuable sixth man. Read the full article

Gonzaga-San Diego key matchup: Isaiah Pineiro, Rui Hachimura back for more - Fri, 15 Feb 2019 PST
It’s tempting to go with Olin Carter III, the sharp-shooting guard who scored 42 points in two losses to Gonzaga last year. He’s returned from an abdominal injury that left him on the sidelines in GU’s 85-69 win two weeks ago. Can Rui Hachimura start again after a difficult season?
Can Rui Hachimura start again after a difficult season?
Three years after the start of Rui Hachimura’s career, the conclusion is as terrible as it is fair: the Japanese has full potential, but still insufficiently exploited and too often stifled by injuries or personal worries. The Wizards winger hasn’t shown it all yet, and he’s going to have to do it this season. Before we begin, let’s take a seat in the Big League DeLorean and step back for a…

Lakers get a Game 2 reality check
Tumblr media
(News4usonline) - It’s back to reality for the Los Angeles Lakers. After a highly-energized effort in Game 1 of their first round playoff series against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Lakers shocked and embarrassed the Western Conference’s No. 2 seed.  Austin Reaves went off for 23 points. Rui Hachimura went ballistic with 29 points off the bench to lead the Lakers to a 128-112 road win.
Tumblr media
Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis. Photo by Mark Hammond/News4usonline Well, with Game 3 at Crypto.com Arena, the Lakers had an excellent opportunity to steal Game 2 from the Grizzlies. Yeah, well that went out the window with the Grizzlies rallying to a 103-93 win to tie the series at 1-1.  The reality for the Lakers hit hard with Reaves managing just 12 points in the second game, which you knew would be coming since Memphis has been one of the top defensive teams in the NBA during the regular season. To hammer this point home, the Grizzlies were second-best in the league in allowing points to their opponents during the regular season.  So, the 128 pints the Lakers put up against the Grizzlies in Game 1 will serve as more of an outlier for the rest of the series. Even if the Lakers have three opportunities to play on their home court for three games, should that possibility exist, this series is pretty much going to mirror what the score looked like in Game 2-in the 90s or low 100 range.  And you pretty much know what the playbook Memphis is going to rely on. The Grizzlies know that LeBron James and Anthony Davis are going to get their points. They are going to stuff everyone else in the closet and see if the Lakers' dynamic duo can beat a whole team by themselves.  That’s not logical considering the frail health of Davis, who has been prone to the injury bug. The biggest culprit for the Lakers and their fans to worry about is when Davis is not doing his part. In Game 1, Davis had a marvelous showing, scoring 22 points, grabbing a dozen rebounds, and blocking seven shots.  He made 10 of the 17 shots he took from the field. Very impressive. Then in Game 2, Davis disappeared. As a team, the Lakers shot 41 percent from the field. That shooting percentage was worst when it came to shooting the three-ball.  The Lakers converted only 7 of 26 shots from behind the arc, something good enough for 26 percent. You’re not going to win too many playoff games shooting at that rate. If Davis had given the Lakers the kind of effort he produced in Game 1, Los Angeles might have been able to steal Game 2.  That didn’t happen because Davis was lackluster, making just 4 of 14 shots from the field for a grand total of 13 points. For the game, Davis shot at a 28 percent clip. That’s just not acceptable. This is not the time for Davis to flame out. If he keeps this kind of effort going, then Memphis is going to make quick work of the Lakers and hand Los Angeles an extended vacation.          Read the full article
