Writing Update

I spent a lot of time jumping around and filling things in for the eventual beta, plus working on Chapter 12's first draft. I shooould technically be prepping Chapter 11 for its alpha but I've got time for that later. Inspiration was striking me now and I gotta follow the muse ^_^

Incidentally, I've never fully understood the concept of a muse, so if anyone has any thoughts on what mine should be feel free to assign me one 😂

S_R is vegetarian (possibly vegan). Not out of morals, but out of ick. Also after a lifetime of State rations and a general view of food as inconvenient method of refueling, he’s also got a palette that it’d be generous to describe as ‘bland’.

Writing Update

This was a very eclectic round of writing. I hopped to the epilogue chapter and coded out a few possible endings and wrote some of the RO-based conversations, including fleshing out one I'd already begun. Then it was time to spend some more energy on chapter 9, which I've come to accept as "this is my life now." 😂

考え方

与えられた数列aから切り出せる連続部分列の中央値を全通り集めた数列mについて、 mの中央値は何？という問題。 切り出せる連続部分列全通りを試していては間に合わないので工夫が必要。

考え方を変えてみて、 「数列mの中央値をある値Xにすることはできるか？」という判定問題を考える。 「数列mの中央値がXである」を言い換えると、「数列mにはX以上の要素が半分以上ある」となる。

数列mは数列aから切り出せる連続部分列の中央値を集めたものであり、 数列aからの切り出し方は ${}_{N+1}C_2$ 通りあることを考えると、 「数列aから切り出した数列について、X以上の要素が半分以上となるような切り出し方が $\frac{{}_{N+1}C_2}{2}$ 通り以上あるか？」と言い換えられる。

数列aの各要素について、X以上の要素は1に、X未満の要素を-1に置き換える。 このとき、「X以上の要素が半分以上となるような切り出し方」は 「総和が0以上となるような切り出し方」に言い換えられる。

累積和 $S_i=A_0+A_1+\cdots+A_i$ を考えると、 「総和が0以上となるような切り出し方」は「 $S_r-S_l \geq 0$ を満たす(l,r)の組」と言い換えられる。 $S_r-S_l\geq0$ は式変形して $S_l \leq S_r$なので、 「累積和の各要素について、自分より後ろかつ自分以上の値である要素の数」を求めることになる。

ここで転倒数を考えてみる。 転倒数は「自分より後ろかつ自分未満の要素の数」のことであり、今求めたいものの余事象にあたる。 そのため、求めたい値は「 ${}_{N+1}C_2$ -転倒数」になる。

「 ${}_{N+1}C_2$ -転倒数」=「数列mのX以上の要素数」なので、 「 ${}_{N+1}C_2$ -転倒数 $\geq \frac{{}_{N+1}C_2}{2}$ 」を満たすXの最大値が答えになる。 これはにぶたんで求められる。

実装では転倒数を求める際にBITを用いており累積和が負になると都合が悪いため、 累積和の各要素にNを加えて0以上となるよう下駄を履かせている。

「自分より後ろかつ自分以上の値である要素の数」を転倒数で求める代わりに ウェーブレット行列で殴ることもできる。 計算量は悪化するが、求めたい値を言い換えなしに直接計算できる。

自分は「数列aの各要素について中央値に何回選ばれるか」を考えていたが計算量が落とせず失敗。 解きやすい形に言い換えを重ねていく点が自分では思いつけなかったところだった。 「中央値がX＝X以上の要素が半分以上」の言い換えも別の問題でも使えそう。

The group $S_R$ contains the group $S_\infty$ (the group of finitely based bijections) as its subgroup, which is infinitely generated. However, there exists $S_\infty < H \leq S_R$, such that $H$ is finitely generated. The $H$ can be described as $\langle (01), f \rangle$, where $f$ is defined by formula:

澳大利亚的大火已经烧了好几个月了，生命财产损失非常严重。网上各种假消息乱飞，各种PS的图片、视频疯传，各种怪罪的声音也很多。

在澳洲的微信群里，很多人都根据自己的知识、经验，激烈探讨澳洲火灾的起因、消防等内容。

澳大利亚从1851年开始，因林火死亡的人数超过800人。

笔者曾经参加过澳中林业双边会谈和中国林业消防访澳考察团的翻译。中方考察后，发现澳中两国差异很大，澳大利亚有很多地方值得中国学习。

首先，澳大利亚地广人稀，森林覆盖范围广。澳大利亚林地面积占1.34亿公顷，占全澳土地面积17%，其中1.32亿公顷为“天然林”(也称“自然林”，英文Native forests)，占98%；195万公顷为“商品人工林”(Commercial plantations)。澳大利亚约占世界森林面积的3%，是全球森林面积第七大国。

森林类型以阔叶林为主，97％组成树种主要是桉树和槭树类，仅桉树就有600多种；针叶林占森林面积的3％，主要树种是南洋杉、辐射松等。

澳大利亚天然林占比高，生长极为茂密，在夏天旱季时，气候炎热，数月无雨，桉树含油多，非常易燃，几乎年年发生火灾，根据土著人的记忆和澳洲科学家考察，澳洲数万年来森林大火一直不断；火灾发生后，一般都是树冠火，扑救难度非常大。

发生林火的有利环境包括：

易燃物负载(Fuel load)：易燃物负载是指在环境中积累的树皮、落叶和小树枝的数量。

易燃物水分(Fuel moisture)：干易燃物会很快燃烧，但潮湿或潮湿的易燃物可能根本不会燃烧。

风速(Wind speed)：风将火焰吹进新鲜易燃物中，使其达到燃点，并提供持续的氧气，从而起到助火的作用。

环境温度(Ambient temperature)：温度越高，火就越有可能开始燃烧或继续燃烧。

相对湿度(Relative humidity)：干燥的空气比潮湿的空气更能使林火烧得更强。

发生火灾的原因非常多，包括林内居民生活、郊游野炊、吸烟、计划烧除、高压线短路、交通运输机械等引起森林火灾，另外还有雷击火。某些鸟还会叼起燃烧的树枝，飞到别处去纵火。

发生火灾的主要起因有：

气候变化(Climate change)：在过去的一个世纪里，澳大利亚的气候变暖了一摄氏度以上，导致热浪和干旱的频率和强度增加。

碳排放(Carbon emissions)：科学家们表示，全球变暖正在使丛林大火燃烧得更加强烈和频繁，他们相信目前的大火已经释放了大约3.5亿吨二氧化碳，相当于澳大利亚年平均二氧化碳排放量的三分之二(2017年为5.3亿吨)。

季节性(Seasonality)：澳大利亚的林火全年都可能发生，尽管严重程度和“林火季节”( bushfire season)因地区而异。这些季节通常跨年度，比如“2019-2020澳大利亚林火季节”，通常从前一年的6月持续到下一年的5月。

澳大利亚发生火灾，频次高，但是经常在发生后不久，就能出动队伍扑灭。主要原因是澳大利亚的林火检测系统完备。首先，全国各地有免费的000电话报警系统，任何人发现火情都可举报。此外24小时监督的高山了望台、消防员巡逻、飞机侦察、红外检测、GPS定位、卫星技术检测、航拍、空中扫描等各种技术，林火检测是发动群众、空中地面结合、远程近程结合、传统现代结合。政府资金投入强大。

  澳大利亚有记录以来，最大的自然灾害就是林火，因此举国上下，对消防的教育也十分到位。从小学开始，就进行基本的防火教育，12岁以后，学生必须强制接受防火教育，16岁还要接受扑火培训，消防车也常常到社区进行宣传。各地都有永久性的消防宣传和火警板。另外，通过社交媒体和手机推广等方式宣传的方式也十分普遍。全国上下防火意识非常高。

澳大利亚火灾频发，因此需要的消防队伍也十分庞大。澳大利亚的消防队伍有三类人员。第一，专职消防人员，属公务员，负责消防的组织和管理；第二，临时工，负责林火高发区的瞭望、巡逻；第三，人数众多的志愿者、义工。澳大利亚除了城市有专职消防人员以外，乡村地区极少专职消防人员，全国绝大部分的消防人员都是志愿者，包括澳大利亚当时担任总理的阿伯特（现在仍然做消防志愿者）。各级政府、各公司都非常支持员工做消防志愿者。

澳大利亚的消防设备全国统一，规范安全。服装一般是经过防火处理的纯棉防护服、天然皮革制成的防火靴和防火手套、防烟眼镜和面具、头盔、滴液点火器、修建隔离带的麦氏耙、钩子、灭火水枪、高压水泵、消防车、防火车、灭火泡沫；另外还有消防飞机（本国购置和国外租用）等。

发生林火后如何扑救呢？澳大利亚已经形成了一整套体系。林火扑救工作，由乡村消防局负责，政府并不承担消防责任，所以澳大利亚发生林火，总理本人却跑到夏威夷度假，就从侧面说明，他需要承担的消防责任很少；民众发现国家在燃烧，总理却跑去度假后，对他提出批评，他回来后，也不能参与林火扑救的指挥，只能去灾区慰问，而灾民还当着电视台的面骂他，他主动跟灾民握手，灾民还拒绝，这都说明政府在消防中的责任，就是提供物资的保障。

在澳大利亚，林火扑救，主要是以人为本，只有对扑救人安全时，林火才会扑救。火势太大，对消防人员产生安全威胁时，林火不一定会扑救；最近，消防机构多次发出警告，即使有人打电话报火警，消防人员也未必会赶到，民众要尽快撤离自救。有时候根据火区价值来决定是否扑救。某些火灾，能促进森林的自然更新。

微信群里常常听到的话是：在中国，这些火灾早就扑灭了，为什么澳大利亚还不调动军队？人海战术、人定胜天，什么火都能扑灭。

澳大利亚跟各国都一样，是按照火势强度来灭火的，中国也不例外。

目前澳洲不少地方的林火强度超过100,000千瓦/米，要想人工扑灭几乎不可能，所以人定胜天、人海战术是不可能发挥作用的；调动军队也发挥不了什么作用；因此火灾持续了很多个月仍然不见熄灭的迹象。

在中国，常常听到人工降雨，所谓人工降雨（英文叫rainmaking或cloud seeding），就是在天上有云的情况下，通过人工手段催化降雨。一般是通过降低云层中的温度，使云中小水滴凝聚形成大水滴，从而实现降雨。

其实，人工降雨是澳大利亚首创，能用澳大利亚早就使用了。人工降雨的成效目前尚不清楚。国际学界一般认为此方面成效仍需进一步证实。

如果人工降雨真的有效，包括中国在内的很多国家，就不会有这么多干旱、缺水、沙漠地区了。

澳大利亚在消防灭火方面，经验丰富，从土著人开始，就在做预防工作。

澳大利亚预防火灾方面，采用的两种重要方法是“引火回烧”(Backburn，即用受控火势预防性阻绝大火的灭火方法)和“易燃物烧除”(fuel-reduction burning)。易燃物烧除(fuel-reduction burning)，英文也称为prescribed, planned, controlled or hazard-reduction burning（规划烧除、计划烧除、受控烧除或减少危险烧除）

澳大利亚消防法律体系完备。各州都有乡村消防法律和条例，对消防管理、机构设置、队伍建设、部门协调、计划烧除、火灾扑救、扑火指挥、资金来源都有明确规定。火灾犯罪受到严厉惩罚。

澳大利亚与世界各国消防队伍相互交流、取长补短、���互支持。

中方提到，中国在防火方面，大部分地区还处于人工加机械的状况，需要提高科技含量。

各地都设立的“火灾危险等级”：

澳大利亚目前的林火是有记录以来最大的，唯一的灭火方法，就是飞机洒水；另外就是等待下雨，而且要下大雨很久才能扑灭。

民众应该听取政府和消防队的意见，避免前往火灾危险地区。
