Hello everyone!

A week ago, I made a poll asking your opinion about the potential inclusion of adult themes and NSFW content in the rewrite of "The Shadow Society", which is a bit of a shift from the original. 94.5% of those who voted said YES to this change. It makes me really happy since it’s a change I wanted, myself. I’ll of course add content warnings in the game about whatever I end up including.

I've gotten some great feedback from a few people regarding chapter 1 that I really want to work on further - so I'm going to spend some doing that while simultaneously working on chapter 2. The demo will be temporarily privated while I work on it since I want to avoid breaking people's saves. I don't know whether it'll be inaccessible for a few days, a week or a month; it all depends on how much progress I make and whether I potentially want to include the start of chapter 2 when I make it public again.

Another point is that, by IF standards, the demo is incredibly short atm. I think it might benefit from being "re-released" when it's longer, although that would take some time. I'm unsure how I'll approach it, but I'll make sure to let you know once I've decided!

The new chapter (chapter 2) is around 14k word excluding code at the moment. It's still very much at its beginning, and though I can't say how long the chapter is going to be when it's done, I'm not even halfway through yet. Even so I've decided that, once I get to 20k words, I'll edit what I've got and release what's available as a playable early access sneak peek sort of thing on my Patreon for the 'rebel' tier members.

I hope to have the entire unedited version of the chapter done in a month and that I can release the full, edited version of it on my Patreon in June. It's an optimistic estimate, but I like setting deadlines for myself since it helps me stay on track and focus better :)

Slowly, your eyes slide open into the waking world. Your head is resting on something warm, firm…and a little sweaty. You pick your head up, despite the disorienting, muddy feeling of a slight hangover.

A groan bubbles in your throat. You gaze travels downward, and you realize that what you’re looking at is more of a who.

Your eyes widen. Oh…my…God…

Not only are you very naked, but your firm pillow is too. It happens to be your best friend’s brother.

Biting the inside of your lip, you can’t help but take him in, here in the raw light of day as he lays peacefully on his back. His head lolls to the side on your usual pillow. Your eyes roam over the bow of his lips, the dark eyebrows, lightish brown hair that's softer than it should be between your fingers.

He’s painfully handsome. There’s a slight hesitation in your touch, but you softly trace the cut of his jaw and the stubble spread across it. That roughness feels familiar, and not just under the pads of your fingers, though the thought makes you blush. You begin to remember the night before, almost like a movie reel through your mind…

Writing Update 2/3/25 - Alpha Readers + Chapter 2

Hello everyone!

Long time no see. I have some announcements to make. First is that Chapter 2 has been wrapped up at ~ 90k, making the Twine Demo ~190k. This is very exciting! Lots of new variation has been added re. Amilia + Vethna's relationship (it depends on the Commander now), and Amilia's character has been a bit more refined.

My goal is to fix some typos + finish the "WIP" parts of Chapter 1 in the next week, and after being proofread, Chapter 2 + patches for Chapter 1 should be good to go.

Because of that, I'm finally doing what should be my last (hopefully) call for Alpha Testers! The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, February 12th. All the relevant info is on the google form. The hope is that we can push to do a Chapter 2 release by the end of this month, though it might be pushed to early March. You can apply to be an alpha reader here!

Otherwise, life's been interesting. I'm wrapping up college this semester, so I've been dealing with my Senior thesis (whoop) and I had a surgery that I am just now mostly recovered from (whoop whoop). Very strange to think I went into college working on the exile, and now I graduate still working on it. That's a long time!

Minutes dragged by as you waited for any kind of movement. The cold metal of the cheekpiece stung your face, distracting you from surveying the clearing. You would see a flicker of movement in the nearby bushes now and again but nothing to suggest anything larger than a fox.  You were starting to wish you had never given away your cloak to that witch when you eventually spotted a grey blur emerge from the thick treeline that surrounded the clearing.  Kane noticed it too as she moved behind your shoulder with a muttered,” Finally.” Flicking off the safety, you closed one eye, trying to gather an image through the rear sight. As it prowled over, you could at least identify it was definitely a wolf. Its coat was a light grey, flecked with white. Thankfully Kane’s runes worked, the great beast paid no attention to either of you. “Aim for its eye. Hopefully, the skull can stop the bolt from penetrating all the way through and puncturing the pelt,” Kane murmured, her voice low. Probably the most advice she had given you in a year. The wolf stopped just before the venison, bending its head to sniff at it, its snout twitching slightly. Adjusting your position, you angled the crossbow so the rear sight gave you a perfect view of the wolf’s head. As if sensing your presence, the animal's head snapped up. Its green eyes bored into yours. “Now."

05/09/2024: everyone wake up it's take walks in the rain and hole up in the library season

academia: slowly working through preliminary research for a potential dissertation topic (women in medieval/early modern warfare), battling the university website for it to acknowledge me as an incoming student.

writing: ... so i accidentally started a new project again. that makes 13, not including the fanfic i write, but whelp. i'm hoping i can mesh it into a pre-existing project, since they're on a similar theme, and that'll feed two birds with one scone.

ADORIEL'S TEARS PROGRESS UPDATE

Hi everyone,

It's an even day, so I thought it would be a good time to give a quick summary of where I'm at with Adoriel's Tears.

As I hope you've noticed with the sneek peaks, I'm continuing to write in my corner and interacting a lot less here.

The last Q&A and some asks I received after it have a lot to do with it.

The end of 2024 and the beginning of this year has been and is hard for me in the real life I'm prioritizing, so I'm writing less regularly than before, but the days dedicated to this activity are generally enough to make up for the days off.

I lost a good part of my progress in mid-December due to an oversight on my part, but I eventually caught up.

So far, I've written the entire path of the Familiars and its various branches, added a little to the Plushie one and started the first scene of the one about Sirius.

This one is rich in branches and choices, but after having a fellow author read it, I know it's worth it.

I'm also continuing to polish up the old chapters and writing the Christmas special side story, which I'm thinking of charging for to be honest.

I've also decided that I won't be answering any more questions where Elianna and Ashlyen's names appear together and about how they're handling things with Mc. These questions have already been widely addressed and only serve to make me sullen and just want to either stop the whole thing or do a complete rewrite of the story, bypassing Mc's childhood.

I've also blocked Tumblr notifications as I found they were taking up too much space in my mind and I encourage anyone who might feel overwhelmed to do so if they wish.

Your anxiety was a ravenous beast with an endless appetite for your peace. It ate away at everything that once felt so secure and solid within you until you were hollow and on the verge of collapsing in on yourself. You did your best to stay busy the next day, consumed with the need to keep moving or doing something to sate it.

König took you up on your offer to fold laundry, so you sat cross-legged on the floor in the middle of the bedroom beside a pile of clean clothes, smoothing and folding until you had a crisp stack beside you.

You tucked a pair of his socks together, cuffing the ends and placing them beside the other pairs. If you focused on one thing at a time, one fold at a time, you could occupy the part of you that would be sprinting down a rabbit hole of self-destructive thoughts. It worked for a while,

until the floor creaked as König entered the room.

You kept your eyes on the T-shirt you were folding, but turned your head just enough to peek at him over your shoulder. He sat on the edge of the bed, elbows resting on his thighs, face in his hands.

Fuck, this couldn’t be good.

Regret surged inside you, thick and dark as tar behind your sternum. It filled the space around your lungs and made it hard to breathe, but you continued with your chore, smoothing the folded shirt down as you set it atop the stack and picked up another.

Chapter Two Release News

I didn't want to say anything until I was more sure, since life seems to love to throw curveballs my way, but I think chapter two may arrive by the end of the week or early next week.

I managed to really bang out a huge chunk of the final section today, and with only a few parts left, I can see myself finishing it tomorrow.

All that is left is to code it (which goes quite fast since I tend to write my code into my document as I write) and then send it to playtesters to make sure everything works. Plus Arabella's art.

With it being a long weekend this week, the odds of the chapter arriving soon is looking good!

Thank you, everyone, for your support. Your wonderful words while I was in hospital and before that, when I was struggling to work through tough sections, has really helped. I can't wait to share the new chapter with all of you!

I love your story. It was my second IF ever, and it helped set the tone because it's amazing. I am so glad you wrote it. I truly love your characters. I know you aren't writing it anymore, but if you ever want to post any details from the rewrite or just random snippets, they would be devoured. I love all of the romances, but Quaiel was especially intriguing. I would love to write stories about them, but I don't want to be too far off your original thinking.

Hello again everyone <3 thank you for this ask and all the other asks expressing concern about my well-being and asking me about potential other writing projects. And thank you to those who have sent me enthusiastic asks about the world and characters of TSS. I know it's been a long time since I was active here so the fact that I'm still getting messages and asks at all is pretty shocking to me, but makes me very happy.

I wanted to make an update here and let those who still follow me know that I'm actually in the process of writing a new IF. It has a published demo, though I won't reveal the title just yet since I want to get some more of it done before sharing it with everyone here. I feel incredibly guilty about the state I left TSS in even though I knew it was the right decision for me, and I want to make sure that I've got more to show for this new project to regain some trust that might have been lost with the long time waiting and then the cancellation.

As for TSS: while it won't be continued, the story and characters have stayed with me through the years. The reason I haven't released any snippets or my planning for how things would go is because I've been considering, if I've got enough time, to maybe rewrite the story at my own pace (it would be a very thorough rewrite and many things both storywise and characterwise would likely change), make it a complete story instead of a trilogy and release it for free. I'm still not making any promises, though - this is a very huge maybe. But it's something I would really like to do when and if there's a good opportunity to do so.

Absolutely feel free to write stories about Q and any of the other characters! I'd love to read them if you do. Part of what I love when it comes to writing is how the creativity of one person can ignite creative sparks in other people. It's honestly magical.

Writing Update

Public release for Ch10 is going to be on Sunday 20th April, as planned!

Stop me if you've heard this before, but the extra part of Ch10, focused on CG has uh, got longer than I expected. It's already another 4k to the word count and I didn't even hit the romance part yet. I really want to do it justice, including making the more friendship-focused approach to CG worthwhile. (you can also talk about work if, you know, you're into that)

So ah, yeah ^^;

That's gonna take slightly longer to come out than I expected. It'll follow the patreon-first, public-later type of scheduling, but hey on the bright side you're gonna get two updates in the span of a month?
