This goes out to whoever decided our inner-city industrial architecture looked better with black rectangles than ever-changing bright colours:
Tumblr media
1: You're objectively wrong
2: Specifically, the fruits of your labour look like shit and I hope you're alienated from them
3. It is an isolated TUNNEL with CORNERS that people TRAVEL THROUGH AT NIGHT why are you making it DARKER? Are you part of the Muggers' Trade Union?
4: You're also tagging. It's just that your tag is a black rectangle. Which is ugly and stupid.
5. Your actions are bad and you should feel bad
As a palate-cleanser, here's one under Spaghetti Junction. More than one artist has used the tunnel skylight to place their manifesto; this is just the most recent. The picture doesn't really capture it well; it's a long and dark tunnel with one sudden square of light that grabs your attention.

The Great Northern Warehouse is the former railway goods warehouse of the Great Northern Railway which was refurbished into a leisure complex in 1999.
The warehouse was built to be fireproof with a steel frame on a rectangular plan and five storeys high. It was built above the Manchester and Salford Junction Canal, and a dock was constructed beneath to allow goods to be transferred to and from canal barges via shafts and a complex system of haulage using hydraulic power.
The building could hold a total of 150 goods wagons across two of its levels, with capacity for a further 500 in its sidings. Its construction effectively wiped out the district of Alport Town, which had included 300 houses.
According to Historic England, the warehouse is a "unique survival of a three-way railway goods exchange station, serving the railway, canal and road networks of the Manchester region."

Salford tram No. 222 by Frederick McLean Via Flickr:
An old photograph (just 3.5" x 2.5") of Salford Corporation Tramways (SCT) car No. 222 showing '81 - Deansgate - New Bailey St' destination indicators. Route 81 was converted from trams to buses in Nov 1945.
Thanks to Thomas West via facebook for the tram location - "Picture is the top of Broad Street, Pendleton. Junction with Bolton Road and Eccles Old Road. Salford".
I am not sure if it is a cut down (using blunt scissors!) photo or postcard. If it is a postcard there are no marks showing on the rear that would normally be on a postcard reverse.
No. 222 was built by Brush in 1916 with driver vestibules and open top body seating 32/49 and running on Brill 61E maximum traction bogies. It was built as open top for the low bridges on the Worsley - Whitefield route but was taken off the route when fitted with an enclosed top cover in 1923. It was officially withdrawn from service on 08 May 1947, a few months after the system closed, the cars remaining after closure were stripped of useful parts during April/May and then went to Hyde Road to be scrapped. The parts of the Salford tramways systems that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to bus operation had closed on 31 Mar 1947.

What is underneath Spaghetti Junction?
What is underneath Spaghetti Junction? https://ift.tt/SVnpFvz Spaghetti Junction appears in the Guinness Book of World Records, as “the most complex interchange on the British road system” The sound of vehicles driving overhead is very loud. It’s impossible to ignore it if you are underneath one of the UK’s best-known concrete structures. This structure is 50 years old on Tuesday. Thousands of drivers use the M6 motorway every day. Most people call it Spaghetti Junction because of the way the roads look. But not many people know what is under it. At Salford Junction, the Grand Union Canal, Birmingham and Fazeley Canal and Tame Valley Canal meet Spaghetti Junction was given its name by newspaper reporter Roy Smith, who said that from the sky it looked like spaghetti on a plate. Construction of Spaghetti Junction took some four years to complete at a cost of £10m. The site covers 30 acres, serves 18 routes, and the pillars carrying Spaghetti Junction over the canal network had to be carefully placed to allow a horse-drawn narrow boat to pass underneath without fouling its towrope. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-birmingham-61482844 via Birmingham Local News https://ift.tt/zeAPXMs May 24, 2022 at 08:23PM

This is a 23-minute video showing all 98 route tasks that you can find in the Rush Hour - London Commuter route for Train Sim World 2. The route tasks has as some older items as well as new additions and these are Route Maps, Newspaper Stands, Tourist and Seagull Posters. Collecting started from London Victoria, I took a Southern service to Reigate, then teleported through the slow line stations between Earlswood and Horley, I could had took a Class 166 since I have GWE and not playing on a Gen 8 console. Then I spawned on foot and took a Gatwick Express to Brighton at Gatwick Airport. Please note that, there is 98 route tasks that you can collect on the route now and you can't obtain the Gull Up achievement yet either. There are 2 inaccessible Tourist Posters at both Reigate and Earlswood, and a invisible one at Streatham Common but you can get to it. I'm uploading this video so that you can get what you are looking for and then I will upload a new version once Dovetail Games does update them. BTW, it should be very easy them to find since they would be on the station buildings. There is 25 each route task items to collect along the route except for the Tourist Posters which 23 can be obtainable for now. Information about the route task items: -Route Maps, this classic collectible since GWE. This time they will just show the route map on its format. These are found as a blank map with a dark blue highlight line on top. These are found in most stations in this route. -Newspaper Stands are found at stations and near to sitting areas. These were previously seen on Bakerloo Line, Southeastern High Speed, and Cathcart Circle Line which are modern versions compared to the ones in Northern Trans-Pennine and Tees Valley Line. Walking near them will reveal stacks of newspapers for both sides. These can be found as a empty blue stand which also says "NEWS". -Tourist Posters can be found on walls at stations, it will be shown as a abandoned white board with a wooden frame and something from a previous poster left on it. Walking towards it will reveal a museum poster. -Seagull posters can be found near walls and fences. It will be shown as a empty black poster stand if hasn't been collected yet. Walking near them will reveal something about don't feed the birds, talking about facts and there is a QR code which takes to Dovetail Games' website. There is a Steam guide which is by chrisvazquez7 where they shown all the route tasks are if you do prefer written version of this. Many thanks to him to help me collecting all these items while using his guides. https://bit.ly/3nmryjS Timestamps: 0:00 London Victoria 1:08 Battersea Park 2:06 Clapham Junction 2:39 Wandsworth Common 3:14 Balham 4:28 Streatham Common 5:23 Norbury 6:07 Thornton Heath 7:01 Selhurst 7:49 East Croydon 8:37 South Croydon 9:31 Purley Oaks 10:20 Purley 11:07 Coulsdon South 12:00 Merstham 12:40 Redhill 13:36 Reigate 13:57 Earlswood 14:41 Salfords 15:34 Horley 16:23 Gatwick Airport 17:18 Three Bridges 18:11 Balcombe 18:47 Haywards Heath 19:38 Wivelsfield 20:25 Burgess Hill 21:06 Hassocks 21:30 Preston Park 21:59 Brighton Other Channels: Twitch: https://bit.ly/35N8IHF Non-Gaming Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/2nealfire Twitch VOD Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/AnthemKiosk Social: Discord Server: https://bit.ly/2QcI4Ty Facebook: https://bit.ly/3sydSV9 Twitter: https://twitter.com/neal08ni Instagram: https://bit.ly/3mhIr0m Steam Profile: https://bit.ly/3gd46CH Steam Group: https://bit.ly/3j0MMCN Email: [email protected] (Business Inquiries Only) Support: Donate/Tip: https://bit.ly/2TNoG29 Anonymous Donate/Tip: https://bit.ly/2GhjeN8 Affiliate Links: Epic Games Creator Code: NEALTV8 CdKeys: https://bit.ly/3iY5RV5 Patreon: https://bit.ly/2m3POFY Green Man Gaming: http://bit.ly/2cqrL3k Fanatical: https://bit.ly/33YQmWH Humble: https://bit.ly/2DPdgTs Download TubeBuddy: https://bit.ly/2Z0MLVQ

Road hogs: Herd of pigs forces M62 motorway to shut down
Traffic was brought to a standstill today after a herd of pigs hogged the lanes of a motorway. Nineteen pigs on the loose forced the M62 in Salford, Greater Manchester, to be temporarily closed. The pigs got on the lanes between junctions 12 and 11, according to the North West Motorway Police. Highways North West tweeted about the incident, writing that “traffic has been temporarily stopped due…

This is from the park right near my house that I walk/run around several times a week. Hell. Three dead swans as well, didn't look like a predator got them. Pretty sure the brook that feeds this lake goes up towards Sutton Park and down to the confluence of the Tame, Rea and multiple canals at Salford Junction; basically everywhere you get flocks of wild waterfowl in north east Birmingham.

Wayne the Cabby interview
On Saturday I had the pleasure of having a chat with a very nice chap called Wayne, who you will all know as the cabby who drives our Kayleigh away from John at the end of ep 4.
Tumblr media
Wayne the Cabby (as he asked to be known) is very experienced in this business of show. He has been working regularly on Coronation Street and other dramas for 8 years, all thanks to his day job of driving a black cab:
"I drive a black cab when I don’t get any work from Coronation Street, and I’m not doing any other dramas, I’m on the actual taxi rank. I picked up a TV producer and I ended up driving Gino D’acampo about on his first series - picking him and drop him off at different locations - and after that came to an end I got offered Coronation Street."
His contact with TV producers, and his reputation of being easy to work with led him to getting the Car Share gig which filmed at the end of June last year.
"I knew it was going to be more involved. They wanted somebody who knew the industry and that’s why I was chosen to do it. I didn’t need much talking to."
Wayne didn't know how pivotal his role was going to be in the Car Share story, and he didn't get off to a very auspicious start in his first encounter with Peter.
"The first time I did meet him, I had my feet up on the door 'cos it was a really hot day. He pulled up in his car, gets out, looks at me gives me that face he does and goes "Are you comfortable?" I was a bit star struck. And he just walked away smirking. That was my first introduction to him."
However, despite this awkward start, Wayne ended up working on Car Share for four days in all, doing a lot of filming in the infamous traffic jam and other locations around the North West, and had a great time.
Of course, the traffic jam was a big scene to set up, as Wayne explained:
"I deal with the vehicles on Coronation Street, but it was a different company doing it here. I did help out, 'cos what it was they asked all the extras to bring their own vehicles. The ones Peter was jumping on and putting divots on the top were old cars, wrecks that were brought in on low-loaders. But from a viewers’ point of view they look like normal cars.  My taxi was in the middle of that, we had the rig set up alongside the cab and then there was a view where it comes in to look at Sian."
It was during the long, hot traffic jam shoot that Wayne's favourite memory of his time with the show unfolded.
"The funniest thing that happened is that at Pomona Strand there was a barge that went past with a hen party. Peter was on top of the roof, they were all shouting "Peter! Peter!" And he was shouting back to them “Alright girls!” And he said "Get the music on!" and he danced to the music  and was giving out jelly sweets to all the crew and extras. And that was going at the time with this barge going past; he was in view for ages."
This fun atmosphere is typical of the Car Share shoots, it seems, and Peter's willingness to engage with all the fans who pass by and see the filming never waivers.
"Every car that goes past – he’s such an icon - people are always shouting "Peter! Peter!" But he always has the banter back. But that’s the way he is he’s so quick off his feet."
Although the main part of the traffic jam was filmed at Pomona Strand, we now know the answer to the mystery cab sighting at Southport, as Wayne explained that was where they filmed the close ups inside his cab - though that wasn't always the plan.
"That last scene was filmed in Southport was filmed just outside Pontins – away from where we filmed the traffic jam. We were waiting for the big truck coming that day (Grizzly from the episode 1 dream sequence)... Originally it was meant to be in Pomona Strand – but about 8pm at night I got a phone call from the producer saying it was moved and we had to go to  Southport. In Coronation Street if there’s a change of plans we normally get a week’s notice but this was all on the spur of the moment. A lot of it’s down to weather as well, they have to get the trucks down so you’re chasing the weather, so we were all fingers crossed we were going to get a bit of sunshine – which we did. The sun shines for Mr Kay!"
It was at this location they filmed Wayne's close-up, in the now totally iconic sequence where we see him smiling at John taking Kayleigh from the taxi in the "Kayleigh" dream.
"Peter got the scene set up and he told me to twist around, while the got the camera set. "Right Wayne, this is the scene where you are actually going to be seen. What I want the first time give me an angry face." So I had to turn round and give him an angry face. He said "Well done, well done, I was very scared." So second time I had to do a smiley face, and on the third one I had to do a confused face. And then I think he went back to a smiley face. I think we did it about three or four times... I haven’t actually seen the scene."
Wayne may not have seen his big moment, but as we know at least 6 million people have, and his face is going to be seen every time this epic moment is repeated. In fact, it's already had an impact on his life.
"When I went into the local bookies to put on the Irish lottery, the bloke said “I’m sure you were on Car Share!”"
This wasn't the end of Wayne's time with the show however, as he did more filming of his taxi on the road (If you watch carefully, you can see it in 2x03 after Kayleigh tells John to "grow a pair").
Tumblr media
"Some of the scenes, we had a crew of the producer, a cameraperson and a sound engineer. We drove to different spots, they’d get out of the taxi and they’d say right you spin round, go back down the road and come past the camera. And there was certain junctions on the motorway around Salford, and they’d say we’ll be on this bridge you go back further down, go back on the main road and we’ll be filming you from the top. And then there was other things that I had to do… but that’s how it works.
But we just kept getting stuck. There was one roundabout, I kept having to go round and round and round it. And the car was involved as well, obviously the Fiat was following the taxi. I worked with him for four days doing different filming, but a lot of stuff just ends up on the editing floor, it just gets edited out."
Despite the last minute changes and going back and forth over and over, Wayne has nothing but good things to say about the show and Peter.
"When we are at Pontins there was some young kids, Peter gave them all of his time. But he was straight across, and did all the pictures and that. But it’s like everything people get tired. People don’t realise he’s the writer, the director, sometimes you and come across stressed. And to be fair to him, he’s a great guy. I ended up spending about 20 minutes talking to Peter about America, cos the next day I was flying off to Majorca. He did come over at the end and say it’s been nice chatting to you and have a cracking holiday."
Like the rest of us, Wayne was a bit surprised by this being the end of the road for Car Share.
"But there’s only 4 episodes isn’t there? He sounds quite adamant about it ending, cos there’s only so much you can do in a car. I’ve heard a lot of people talking about, it’s like everything they want closure don’t they?"
Quite right too, and only time will tell if we're going to get it or not.
So if you get into a black cab in the North West, and you seem to recognise the smiling face that looks over your shoulder, say hi to Wayne and and thank him for taking in our Kayleigh in her hour of need.
Thanks so much to Wayne for his time and to Neil for putting us in contact.
