I just love how in Saladin Ahmed's indie comic Abbott, the name of first volume's main antagonist (who's a white supremacist occultist) is Phillip Howard Bellcamp. I.E., a combination of the names "Howard Phillips Lovecraft" & "Frank Belknap Long," the latter of whom was Lovecraft's friend & apprentice who heavily contributed to the Cthulhu mythos!
I find it appropriately fitting that a villain who's a massive anti-Black racist in a supernatural horror comic which discusses issues of racism and stars a Black bisexual woman as the main protagonist, is named after both Lovecraft (who was a massive racist even by the standards of his time) and his apprentice Belknap!

Out this week: Deer Editor #1 (Mad Cave, $4.99): This comic may have already arrived at your local comic shop, depending on who their distributor is. But I thought I’d highlight it here because it appears on Diamond’s list for the week, and, having already read it, I wanted to add that it’s not to be missed. Ryan Lindsay and Sami Kivela have created a really great character in Deer Editor, a hard-nosed journalist trying to solve a politically motivated murder, and the first issue will leave you wanting more.
See what else is coming to your local comic shop this week!

Bucky is finally going to be…
