the average brunch scene in sex and the city has better, more nuanced and naturalistic performances than entire other shows or movies do. This isn’t even a joke, watch a couple of them and pay attention to not just people’s reactions but the way they’re interacting with the food/stuff on the table. There something so real about the way they’ll pause slightly to pass a salt shaker, or to use a napkin. It’s like the inverse of when someone in a movie is supposed to be drinking from a mug and you can tell it’s empty

#Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon are the best at it imo #honestly the show loves to stage people having conversations while just doing basic stuff #it’s something that’s really subtle but it adds a ton of flavor to the show #there’s a moment where Carrie and Aidan try to have a conversation while brushing their teeth #and something about it feels like two people actually trying to do that?#as opposed to two people standing on a set dressed as a bathroom #there’s a way that the whole pace of the conversation is dictated by the activity they’re doing #this is the thing about SATC: it has a ton of flaws but it’s also Good #especially the first few seasons! it has a Look to it that makes me go dang #they should give more shows a lighting budget lmfao
