the average brunch scene in sex and the city has better, more nuanced and naturalistic performances than entire other shows or movies do. This isn’t even a joke, watch a couple of them and pay attention to not just people’s reactions but the way they’re interacting with the food/stuff on the table. There something so real about the way they’ll pause slightly to pass a salt shaker, or to use a napkin. It’s like the inverse of when someone in a movie is supposed to be drinking from a mug and you can tell it’s empty

Middle of the Night prt 2
Part 1
Bodhi Rook x Reader (Romantic)
Summary: The afternoon after they kiss, Reader is giddy, but Bodhi seems like he wants nothing to do with her any more
Word Count: 2574
Warnings: Swearing, kiss, not fluff angst maybe? I dunno, you be the judge
Characters: Chirrut, Baze, Cassian, Aidan (Friends OC), Reader
A/N: K, reader and Cassian are siblings, reader is commander of her own fleet (Sorry if there are any other surprises in here)
And trust me, it gets kinda better after the cut off point
[Y/N] wandered into the shop, she was probably going to make it into a routine -- to hang around the shop -- since she was grounded for who knew how long after the Skarif incident. She had a rather large grin on her face that she didn’t bother hiding. [Y/N] side stepped a table, only to nearly hit her head on the wing of a broken down ship. She stopped herself by grapping the wing edge and ducking around it. She felt halfway pleased at herself, usually by now she would have hurt herself in someway or another. That feeling quickly disappeared when [Y/N] feet hit a mass on the floor, sending her forward before she could react. Luckily, she caught herself on her hands with only mild scraping on her palms.
“Ow,” She muttered and stood, inspecting her palms all the while.
“Watch out,” Aidan’s voice warned from underneath the ship [Y/N] had almost hit her head on.
“Yes, that warning helps so much now,” [Y/N] brushed off her, now dusty, pants.
“Doesn’t it, though?” Aidan was even more sarcastic in that reply than usual.
“So, what’s wrong with this one?” [Y/N] crouched to look under the ship at Aidan.
“Water in the cylinders caused a hydrolocked engine,” Aidan shook her head, blowing some hair out of her eyes -- she hadn’t bothered to tie her hair back, so it was everywhere right now, “Honestly, there’s no water around so unless this pilot flew to Eadu and skimmed through the eternal puddles, there, or took a nosedive into Takodana then I don’t know how they managed water to this scale,” she ended with a frustrated groan and began sliding out, “Gotta go in from the top, now.”
[Y/N] moved out of the way so Aidan had room to get out from under the ship, “Well, Scarif is -- was -- a tropical planet, if it was one of the ones that got through to the surface before the shields closed, then that would explain the water.” She suggested.
Aidan hummed in agreeal, brushing herself off, “Agreed, but I didn’t see any of them get back out before we did, and the shield closed right after -- I lost so many ships to that damn planet…” she grumbled to herself before speaking up again, “Whatever. Doesn’t change anything. All I know is that there’s basically too much water to drain out the normal way so I have to take apart the entire engine so I can get at the pistons to dismantle them so I can thoroughly dry out the cylinders-”
“So,” [Y/N] rocked on the balls of her feet, “a lotta work that won’t hurry up and get itself done.”
“Correct,” Aidan amended. [Y/N] nodded and started to fidget a bit, she wanted to walk around the shop -- she was more restless than usual and it was hell -- but knew that was most likely a horrible idea.
[Y/N] glanced around the mostly empty shop, “Is that the last of the survivors?”
Aidan patted the ship’s side with a loving smile, “Yep. ‘s one’s my baby, now…” she trailed off, looking towards the floor.
[Y/N] laughed; an actual laugh, “You shouldn’t be so happy about that.”
“I’m not happy about it,” Aidan looked back up, “He was a good man. I’m just glad to give his ship a good home.”
“You got a ship, you should be happy,” [Y/N] nudged her shoulder, “Just not about the guy, you know, he was a hell of a pilot.”
“He was a helluva pilot,” Aidan agreed, “Ship needs rest, though, so no flying for now.”
“Well of course. Plus, the water in the cylinders means no flying anyway.” [Y/N] nodded and tried to suppress her smile and keep a solemn mood after the current conversation topic.
Aidan narrowed her eyes at [Y/N], “What’re you smirkin’ about?”
[Y/N] shook her head, “I’m not…” She scratched her right arm, dropping her gaze to the floor.
“Sure you’re not. Now spill. What happened?” Aidan adopted the aura of an excited teenager.
“Nothing,” [Y/N] waved her off, “nothing…”
Aidan raised a suspicious eyebrow, “I will figure it out, just you wait. Now c’mon, you need to eat some food and it’s lunchtime.”
“Have fun trying,” [Y/N] muttered under her breath.
“C’mon y’lil’ shit,” Aidan gently took [Y/N]’s wrist and led her out of the shop. [Y/N] snorted a little and followed her towards the cantina. Cassian, Chirrut, and Baze were already there. Baze and Cassian were having a discussion over the best type of blaster: Cannon or Pistol? Cassian was making exaggerated hand movements as he defended the pistol over the cannon.
“Please!” Baze’s voice rose above the noise in the cantina, and was boom loud from where Aidan and [Y/N] sat next to him, “A blaster cannon causes more damage and can take out multiple people at a time. And they are perfect for a beginner since there is little chance of missing.” he pounded his fist onto the table.
“You can not conceal a blaster cannon!” Cassian pointed out, making a large swing with his arm, “If you need to kill someone while troopers are around, you can’t do it with a cannon, it is too obvious. Besides, it is too heavy to carry around while battling on any planet, too large to get through forest planets. You’ll be fatigued by the time you need to use it to fight. A pistol is the better choice, and if you are skilled enough you can kill as many people with that as you can with a cannon.”
Aidan joined the conversation like she’d been in on it the entire time, “I’m agreeing with Cassian. Blaster cannons are too big, too heavy. If you’re a bigger person, yes, it’d work because you’ve the muscle for carrying it for long periods of time, but if you’re…Cassian’s size it’s impractical. Size matters, Baze, remember that,” she wedged herself between Chirrut and Cassian, elbowing Cassian in the ribs.
[Y/N] sat across from Cassian and started to half listen to the conversation, looking around the mostly empty area. Her eyes flickered to the door as it was pushed open. [Y/N] smiled at Bodhi when he walked into the cantina, but he looked away from her. He didn’t even come over by the table, by their group. He went straight to the counter and got his ration for the day and walked out of the place, not so much as glancing up from his feet. [Y/N]’s face fell, but she looked down at the metal table to hide it.
“What’s wrong with you?” Cassian asked her, nudging her shin with his foot.
“Nothing,” [Y/N] shook her head and stood from the table, “I have work to do, wasn’t that hungry anyway.” She walked out of the cantina as quickly as she could without flat out running.
Aidan’s eyes followed [Y/N] out the door, and she was about to ask the boys if she should go after her when her eyes caught Bodhi. His head was down and he was slowly making his way towards the door, keeping close to the wall like he didn’t want to be seen, “He wasn’t in here before…”
Aidan growled and began standing up when Chirrut’s staff end came down on her lap, “Let him be. The trouble around him is none of your concern.”
Aidan cracked her knuckles, but sat back down all the same, “Fine.”
“Now, go. It’s obvious that you were on your way before you saw the pilot.” He lifted his staff.
“How well you are at reading people is becoming slightly unnerving, Chirrut,” Aidan cracked a small smile, giving Cassian a nuggie as she stood up. On her way out, she patted Chirrut’s cheek and Baze got a not-too-soft punch to the spine, “Bye, guys.”
“I’ll see you in the shop soon,” Cassian promised as he straightened his hair, “My blaster isn’t working right.”
“Ha!” Baze boomed, “You should go with a canon! It is more reliable when it comes to not breaking down!” He brought back up their previous debate.
“Baze, don’t make me come back there,” Aidan threatened, turning to walk backwards down the aisle of tables, “Behave.”
“You know,” Chirrut spoke up, “A staff is better than both those bulky weapons, more like the jedi’s blade…” his voice faded out as Aidan made her way away from them.
She returned to walking normally, her eyes scanning the hallway for any sign of Bodhi, “Now where’d you go y’little tispe…?” she eventually found him, leaning against the wall right over to her left. She she growled at him he looked up and met her eye, “Rook!”
“Aidan,” He flinched when she shouted, “What?”
“We need to have a little chat,” she swiftly moved towards him, “Right now.”
“About what?” He stood straight and, even though he was a bit taller than her, his eyes were full of fear.
Aidan straightened herself out, crossing her arms over her chest, “What’d you do to [Y/N]?”
“Wha-what?” He took a step back from her, “Why do you think I did something?”
“Because you’re avoiding us, you’re very worried right now,” Aidan began listing, “And as soon as you walked into the cantina [Y/N] got up and bolted like a frightened Feli. Now spill.”
“Well I uh-- We um… last night we kinda…” He fidgeted his hands, not sure how to say anything at the moment.
“I swear to the Maker if you did something-”
“I kissed her, well, more like she kissed me, but…” He looked at the ground, still fidgeting, “I didn’t mean to…”
Aidan relaxed a fraction, “Was that it?”
“What? I-I… it’s a big deal.” Bodhi paced, he sounded exasperated, “I kissed her, that’s not good, that’s not okay!”
“Why is that such a big-” Aidan stopped, “What else did you do?”
“What… what else?” He gave her a puzzled look.
Aidan turned and locked eyes with Bodhi, “Did you sleep with her?” her voice was lower than usual, teetering the line between worried and angry.
Bodhi went wide eyed, “Wha- what no, no, no!” He waved his hands.
“Good,” Aidan snorted, “Now why do you think kissing her is a such a big dea-”  she took a step closer to Bodhi, “Are you using her?”
“Why would I use her? What do you mean by using her?” Bodhi shook his head, he was dismayed by Aidan’s questions. Use her, he wasn’t that type of person, was he? Did people assume that of him?
“Nothing,” the word was clipped. Aidan was being short with him now, “Why’d you kiss her?”
“Well, it was late, and we ran into each other, and we talked, and I kissed her -- she kissed me, we kissed each other, I don’t know…” He looked back at the ground, “Cassian is going to kill me…”
“He’s not that protective of her,” Aidan snickered slightly, “‘s really me you have to watch out for,” she went serious again, “If it was so wrong why’d you do it?”
“What? But when he finds out, if he doesn’t already know… Aren’t they…” He trailed off, “And I don’t know why I did it! It was late.”
“Aren’t they…?” Aidan was just becoming annoyed, now, at the fact the poor man couldn’t string together a coherent sentence.
“Married, together, I don’t know. Captain and Commander Andor! They’re married aren’t they?” Bodhi looked seriously freaked out now.
Aidan’s cheeks puffed out and a choke ripped through her throat before she started shaking in poorly-concealed laughter. She doubled over, pressing her forehead and one arm against the wall while the other wrapped around her abdomen. She was laughing so hard, no sound was coming out, and she couldn’t piece together any words.
Bodhi made a disgruntled sound. He was so confused at this point, “Well, the way she hangs on him I assumed…”
Aidan straightened herself out, her laughter stopping dead, “You sound jealous- never mind. They’re siblings, dip. And [Y/N/N] is just over-friendly like that.”
“Siblings…” he said slowly, “But even with that, it’s still horrible that I kissed her.”
Aidan moved quicker than even she thought she could, bunching up two fistfuls of his shirt collar to grab him and throw him against the wall, holding him there, “Why? Hmm? Don’t like her that way?” she tightened her grip, “If you don’t feel that way about her, then why’d you kiss her?”
“I-I-I…” His eyes were wide again; he was honestly afraid, “If I didn’t like her that way why would I kiss her? Why would I be hiding from her?” He looked defeated at this point, “I don’t want her to… I’m not a good person.”
Aidan refrained from slapping Bodhi, “You are one of the best people I have ever had the displeasure of calling a close friend so don’t say that you’re not a good person, Rook,” she set him back on his feet and unruffled his shirt, “Sorry… But now you shut your whore mouth and go find [Y/N] and make up with her or so help me I will make your life living hell.”
“I… fine.” He sighed, “Do you know where I can find her?”
“No,” Aidan turned and went back towards the doors of the Cantina, “She ran off before I could ask her itinerary for the day.”
“I guess I’ll…” He pointed off down the hall before walking away. He headed straight to the hanger, he didn’t know much about [Y/N], but he did know that was a pretty solid guess as to where she would be. The place was crawling with pilots, checking over their ships or refueling them before they left for a mission. Bodhi walked around the hanger, skirting around trying to stay out of people’s ways.
He stopped when he reached the end of the hanger, by an old cargo ship. He shook his head and sighed, “If she’s not here--” His words were cut off when he was pulled into the cargo ship. “Hey!”
“Why?” [Y/N] snapped at him, “Why? You kiss me, you make me think that ‘Hey! maybe I mean something to somebody.’ then you go and pull that?” [Y/N] was dangerously close to him, looking up at him, glaring. “Why?”
“I-I… because…” Bodhi sighed, not sure how to express what he wanted to say. Instead he took her face in his hands and placed a kiss on her lips, “That is why, I think you mean a lot to somebody, this somebody. I’m sorry,” He placed his forehead on hers. [Y/N] said nothing, just put her hands on his neck, pulling him down and kissing him. It took Bodhi by surprise, but he relaxed and kissed her back, his hands going into her hair -- though he couldn’t play with it since it was braided. [Y/N] ran her hands up his neck, causing him to moan into the kiss again, but this time he didn’t pull away, he kissed her harder. [Y/N] was the one to pull away first this time. Her grin matched Bodhi’s, they stayed standing there for a while -- his hands on her face and her hands on his neck.
“If you ever ignore me again,” [Y/N] began to warn him, “you’ll face a one woman firing squad.” She patted his cheek and made her way out of the cargo hold of the ship and out of the hanger, leaving Bodhi standing there, grinning like an idiot, before he ran after her.
A/N: I want to thank @riddikulus-obsessions for helping me write this
so, thank you moose
and I want to apologize for the horribly characterized Bodhi

Discovery: Part 4 of ?
This is part one of Aidan’s discovery
Aidan woke with a start. Alarms were going off and his mom was screaming something at him. He rolled over and pressed his pillow over his ears. His twin half-sisters burst into his room and started to bounce on his bed.
“Get up sleepy head!” They screeched.
“Get out of my room!” Aidan yelled back at them and they scrambled out giggling. He looked across the room and saw that his step-brother was already gone.
“Perfect” Aidan thought to himself as he got up and searched for clothes. He grabbed a pair of jeans, a green t-shirt, and a gray jacket and pulled them on while searching for his red converse. He found one under his backpack and shook Devonte’s pet mouse out of the other. After checking the one for mouse droppings he shoved them on his feet, grabbed his bag and ran downstairs.
“Aidan, thank goodness.” His mom hurried around downstairs getting ready to leave. “Grab some toast and let’s go. Have you seen my keys?”
“Here you go, honey.” Aidan’s stepdad Deon came downstairs with one twin in his arms and tossed the keys to Aidan’s mom.
“Thanks!” She greeted him with a quick peck and Aidan made a gagging sound. “Now don’t forget, picture day is tomorrow for the twins and Thursday for Devonte-”
“I know.”
“Aidan had band practice after school every Wednesday and-”
“Devonte has basketball on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and a game on Saturday. I know, dear.”
“And the twins-” Aidan’s mom started piling papers into her briefcase.
“Go to daycare and then my mother picks them up on Mondays, Tuesdays, and every other Wednesday and your mother picks them up every other Wednesday, Thursdays, and Fridays.” Aidan’s mom took a deep breath. “Have a good trip, we’ll all be fine. Won’t we boys?” Aidan and Devonte shared a look as they came into the hall. This would be a very long week.
“Ok, ready Ace?” Aidan nodded and he and his mom headed out.
“Keys?” Deon tossed the keys to Aidan this time.
“Thanks” He mumbled.
“Have a good day at school, Squirt!” Aidan cringed at the nickname and waved a hand at Deon.
It took 10 minutes to get to school if his mom drove him, 20 if he had to walk. He’d be doing a lot of walking this week since mom was going to Toronto for a business trip. Aidan slouched in his seat and ate his toast bitterly.
“Aidan, what’s the matter? You haven’t said a word all morning.” His mom glanced over at him. “And you didn’t brush your hair either.”
“I just overslept that’s all.” Aidan took another bite of his toast.
“I know you still don’t like Deon,” His mother sighed. “But he makes me happy and you’ll just have to accept that. We’re family now.” As of last spring, Deon and Devonte were officially his family. The twins had been born 4 months later.
…………
As his mom pulled up to the school, Aidan spotted Mai get off her bus. A smile snuck onto his lips and he said a rushed goodbye to his mom and climbed out of the car. Mai raised a hand in greeting and he grinned wider and hurried over to her.
“Hey Mai!” He said as he hopped onto the sidewalk where Mai was waiting for him.
“Morning Aidan!” Mai took one look at him before her bag hit the pavement and she pulled a brush out. “Running late this morning?” Aidan blinked stupidly at her.
“Huh?” Mai reached out and started to part Aidan’s tangled mess of bright red hair. “Oh…” Heat crept up his neck and burned the tips of his ears. Mai made quick work of making his tangles lay flat and he tried to ignore the stares and snickers of people passing by.
“There, now you look presentable.” If Mai had been bothered by the gawking students, she didn’t show it and put her brush away. “Honestly, why your mom lets you out of the house at all I’ll never know. Come on, or we’ll be late.” The two walked side by side into the school and headed for their homeroom. It was just them in there, no old friendships, no new friendships, just them. It was Aidan’s favorite class. It was the only time he could really feel like himself. He sat and chatted with Mai until the bell rang and they both sighed before grabbing their bags and leaving to find Carmilla and poor Tony. Aidan had known Tony since they were in kindergarten, but that Tony was not the one he went to meet. This Tony followed Carmilla like a lost puppy, carrying her books and waiting on her hand and foot. Carmilla was chatting with a group of girls when Aidan and Mai approached. They greeted Tony and took some of Carmilla’s afternoon supplies into their own bags. They would switch at lunch. Tony was simmering over something and Mai was pulled away by Carmilla leaving the boys to trail behind them. Mai kept glancing back at him but Aidan waved her on. She sighed, smiled a fake smile, and turned back to Carmilla.
The four headed into their next class and took their seats against the near wall. Mai in the front, Tony behind her and Aidan sat next to Tony. Carmilla set her bag down next to her seat behind Tony before going back to the front to talk to Mai.
Two girls walked in soon after, one with long golden hair tied back in a ponytail and one with wavy dark red hair and glasses. The blond girl waved at him and he waved back just like they had since Carmilla had broken their friendship. Allie’s friend, Lora was talking about something and bumped into Carmilla. Aidan held his breath as she rounded on the poor girl.
“Excuse you! Watch where you’re going you little freak!” Carmilla snapped. Aidan winced at the edge in her voice. “Do you even know how expensive this is?! My outfit is worth more than your daddy would have ever made in his career!” The class grew silent, Carmilla had crossed a line and she knew it.
“Oh go drown in a river, Carmilla!” Allie snapped back as she steered her best friend to their seats. Carmilla wasn’t done and followed them as a tall tan boy slouched in. He stepped easily over Tony’s outstretched leg and skirted around Carmilla’s bag before taking his seat and joining the rest of the class in watching the front. Lora’s eyes hadn’t left him since he walked in and now Allie was staring at him too. Lora;s eyes quickly flitted away and she punched Allie on the arm, turning as red as her hair and mumbled something. Allie glanced back before turning back to her friend and trying to cheer her up. But Carmilla got there before she could do much. Before long, Carmilla’s conversation made Lora’s hands ball up in her lap. Aidan heard the scraping of a chair being forced back and he and Tony were on their feet in an instant. The boy was a good head taller than them but they stood defiantly in front of him nonetheless.
“Move Ravenna,” The boy said shortly without looking at them. His eyes were trained forward and Aidan didn’t have to turn around to know that the scene in the front was the subject of that stare. “Now.”
“And why should I?” Tony said with an air of confidence that Aidan was sure he didn’t feel.
“Move.” the boy’s voice had an edge to it now and he placed a large hand on Tony’s shoulder.
“Get off me, you filthy savage redskin!” Tony spot shoving the boy back. Suddenly all eyes were on them. “Why don’t you just go back to your teepee?” Tony laughed but Aidan didn’t and the other boy didn’t seem to think it was funny either.
“You know what, Ravenna?” The boy practically shouted. “Your people are the reason why I’m here in the first place so if you don’t like it go crying back to mummy and daddy and have them fix it.” Tony blinked stupidly at the boy as he brushed past them and headed to the front to confront Carmilla.
“Tony?” Aidan turned to him. “Tony, man you ok?”
“Th- tha- that …” Tony stuttered and sank back into his seat. He put his head down on the desk and folded his arms around his forehead. Aidan turned his attention to the front just as their teacher, Mr. Nitro walked in.
“Everyone to your seats. Now!” He directed his attention the small standoff at the front of the room. “Everyone.” Carmilla huffed and glared at Allie and the boy before flouncing back to her seat. The boy glared at Carmilla and took the long way back to his seat to avoid her. Mr. Nitro started the role call but when he got to Tony, he wouldn’t respond.
“Anthony?” Mr.Nitro looked up from his sheet and Aidan reached over to shake Tony’s shoulder. He moaned and shooed him away.
“Sir, he’s not feeling good.” Aidan lied.
“Well kindly escort Mr. Ravenna to the nurse’s office then. Mr. Pyrrid and be quick.” Mr. Nitro snapped and continued his role call. Aidan hauled Tony to his feet and practically dragged him out of the room, grabbing the trash can on his way.
“Tony, we’re going to the nurse,” Aidan said as he shoved the waste basket into Tony’s arms. “Pretend you have a stomach ache.”
“No need to pretend, man,” Tony said, looking a little green as it was. “I missed breakfast this morning, couldn’t keep it down.” Aidan left Tony in the nurse’s office and went back to class. He passed another student in a gym uniform nursing her elbow.
“Hey!” She called, Aidan turned back and saw she was holding something in her hand. “You dropped something.” Aidan walked back to her and took the envelope in her hand. He looked down at it, his family’s Celtic crest was drawn on the front.
“I-I don’t, this isn’t mine.” Aidan looked up but the girl was gone. He flipped the envelope over and opened it. Inside was a letter, it read:
You have been chosen to fight for justice
in your time. If you accept, put on the
ring at noon tomorrow and come to the
roof. Be sure that no one follows you
for your identity must remain a secret.
It wasn’t signed. Aidan looked in the envelope again and saw a silver ring. He dumped it into his hand and looked at it. It was a simple silver band with an intricate Celtic knot design engraved on the top half of the ring. He slid the cool band onto his finger and felt a jolt of energy through him. He yanked the ring off his finger with a squeak. He let the ring clatter to the floor as he took deep breaths to steady himself. He glanced around after a moment before bending over and gingerly picking up the ring again. He stuck it in his pocket and hurried back to class.
