Exploring hidden surf spots in this breathtaking area! 🥥
#SurfingVillage #TelosIslands #SurfingAdventure #SurfDreams #telos #UncrowdedSurf #surfingcamps #SurfCulture #WaveHunting #SurfingJourney #PauloSurfStory
🎙️🏄‍♂️ About This Surfboard Podcast:  In this episode, we dive into the compelling story of Paulo and the creation of his Surfing Village in the Telos Islands. The journey begins with Paulo and his friend Glenn setting out to find the perfect, uncrowded surf spot. Despite challenges, they eventually discover Pell, one of 101 islands, noting a remarkable left-hander wave at Church Island. The adventure continues with a local boat journey, where they confront the true size and power of the waves, adapting their surfing techniques to master long, perfect rides. Paulo's friend resides in a modest wooden house, highlighting the simple, primitive lifestyle on the island focused on basic survival needs. Despite financial hurdles, Paulo successfully negotiates a 50-year land rental deal, laying the foundation for his dream surf village. “If you believe you deserve it, the universe will serve it.” There exists on the interweb a plethora of quotes about the manifestations of dreams. They are trite and hackneyed… but cliches are boring because they are true. This is a condensed origin story of how the surfing village in the Telos islands region came into existence. Condensed into two parts. And it should be noted that yours truly had a technical flare up… a glitch and the first 25 minutes of this conversation got deleted. I will summarize the best I can here and then hopefully splice us cleanly into the conversation where the recording picks up. This story is really a dream. OR it speaks to the power of dreams. One man’s dream that became a reality. That man’s name is Paulo: Paulo Roberto Sciamarelli. In some ways his story is about focus. Focus on a dream. It will eventually manifest. “If you believe you deserve it, the universe will serve it.” 🏄‍♂️📚 Guest Info:    / surfingvillage   https://surfing-village.com/ "Surf without a crowd on one of the best right handers in Indonesia right in our front yard with another 17 waves within striking distance of our speed boats." 📖 Listen to our Surfboard Podcast Archives here: https://boardroomshow.com/podcast/ FOLLOW THE BOARDROOM SURF SHOW: THE BOARDROOM SHOW WEBSITE https://boardroomshow.com/ FACEBOOK  / theboardroomshow   TWITTER @BOARDROOMSURF  / boardroomsurf   INSTAGRAM @BOARDROOMSHOW  / boardroomshow   Channel details:   / @theboardroomsurfshow   🎬 Produced by: Scott Bass 🌊 Scott is the driving force behind The Boardroom International Surfboard Show, previously known as Sacred Craft. Persona 3 Reload: Elizabeth Boss Battle
Tumblr media
While I could probably be called a layman to Persona - a newb, a greenhorn... I do empathize with anyone trying to clear this final, "secret" boss battle that is pretty grueling, if I do say so myself. (人◕ω◕);;; I drew up this "strategy guide" for my own remembrance, but if anyone wants tips or ideas, you can feel free to consult this. I'll just leave it up here. It's, generally, easy to follow and borrows from guides on the internet I've read. I didn't follow them to the letter exactly, and yet I managed to come out of this fight alive twice thus far... Make adjustments of your own if you need to; this is just what I cobbled together, and it works for me. Proud owner of 2 Omnipotent Orbs over here, and hope to get more in the future. ... Even if Elizabeth kicks my ass several times along the way. (人◕ω◕)
... But I digress. Here's my notes. I heavily advise using a calculator or scratch paper to keep a record of how much damage you deal to Elizabeth... You're gonna need to know when you hit certain thresholds. Also - I managed to beat her without maxing the stats of my Personas. Made things a bit harder for myself because of that, but I still mustered victory twice with stats and levels across the board. It's easier with higher leveled Persona's, so I advise grinding as much as possible. You don't need max stats... Just get them to where you're comfortable. You're in for one tough fight regardless if you're maxed out or not.
Also... Before going into Tartarus, I advise going to the fortuneteller at Club Escapade to get a Soul Fortune. You'll build up Theurgy much quicker, and the fight can be much easier for it. Do as you like~
~*~
The Rules
For this fight, you'll be battling alone... Once you leave your party members at the entrance, journey up to Floor 255 and down into the deepest parts of the Monad Door there. And you'll need to keep in mind to not equip anything that nullifies/absorbs/reflects Elizabeth's elemental attacks. You can use Personas that have such resistances, but be careful. If she launches an attack and you break her rules, she'll nuke you with Megidolaon and you'll have to start the fight over. Be mindful of your team and what stage of the fight she's in. You'll have 50 turns to bring her down to 0, but as you'll soon see... They get used up pretty quickly. Come prepared to hit her strong and hard - and definitely stock up on materials, you'll need the healing and status buffs/debuffs.
~*~
My best Personas for the fight (feel free to modify these to your own liking; this is just what I used):
Orpheus Telos
Salvation, Single-Target Boost, Spell Master, Firm Stance, Ice Boost, Ice Amp, Concentrate, Diamond Dust
Helel
Almighty Boost, Almighty Amp, Heat Riser, Spell Master, Firm Stance, Endure, Morning Star, Resist Ice
Messiah
Enduring Soul, Morning Star, Spell Master, rest of moves up to your discretion
Chi You
Arms Master, Brave Blade, Charge, Firm Stance, Single-Target Boost, Resist Elec, Slash Boost, Slash Amp
Lucifer (only good for Phase 1; I have Debilitate on him, saves me Debilitator Sutras for Phase 3)
~*~
Items to stock up on (feel free to add or subtract from this list; these are what I most commonly used):
Empowering Sutras/Heat Riser Potatos
Somas
Debilitator Sutras
~*~
Items equipped:
Lucifer's Blade
Armor of Light
Shoes of Light
Amritite Necklace (shields you from ailments, highly recommend)
~*~
Necessary Theurgy:
Armageddon
Recommended Theurgy:
Trickster
~*~
Phase 1:
Elizabeth can be a vexing opponent, but she does have patterns if you prolong the battle enough and observe her. For this first phase, she'll only attack twice each turn with a different Persona each round. Usually status buffs/debuffs, elemental moves, and physical moves. The order of elements she goes in are: Fire, Ice, Electric, Wind, Light, Dark, Status Ailments, and Almighty.
To break it down a little for you - Helel can be used for those first four types; he absorbs Light and Dark, so when those turns come around swap him out. Helel is mainly used for Heat Riser and Morning Star. Orpheus Telos can be used any turn, and I use him for the Concentrate move, mostly - it doubles the damage of your next magic attack. Don't worry if you use Heat Riser on the next turn, Concentrate will still be active. During this phase, I will occasionally throw Lucifer out to Debilitate Elizabeth, debuffing her stats; this first phase is rather open-ended, just be mindful of what type of moves she's going to use next and how much damage you've dealt to her.
Cycle through Concentrate, Heat Riser, Morning Stars, and Theurgies to whittle her down from 20,000 to at least 13,000. There are elemental attack strategies, too, but I was alright using Morning Star Almighty damage, chiefly. And Theurgies like Trickster (save Armageddon for later, you will NEED it). Occasionally throw in Debilitate to hit harder; Lucifer is best used on turns after she uses Surt (fire), Thor (electric), and Alice (dark) (if Lucifer is equipped ON those turns, you break her rules because of his resistances. Be careful.).
Depending if you get her lower than 10,000, she skips Phase 2. Otherwise, get ready for Phase 2 after getting her below 13,000.
Phase 2:
Elizabeth will praise you for your efforts, and buff herself with Concentrate. This is your cue.
Switch to Messiah to endure and restore your health from her Megidolaon (or whatever Persona of yours has Enduring Soul; I highly recommend carrying one with Enduring Soul because it saves you a turn of healing up). Then, hit her hard with Morning Stars or Theurgy attacks to get her down from 13,000 to the 9999 threshold, you'll have three turns to pull this off; if you fail, she'll hit you with another Megidolaon and you'll have to start the fight over. Be mindful of how much SP you have, I certainly recommend leveling up as much as possible for this fight. Once she hits this new threshold, she jumps into Phase 3.
Phase 3:
Elizabeth praises you again and recovers her health back to 20,000. Frustrating, I know, but this is the home stretch believe it or not. If you skipped Phase 2, you might want to take a turn to use a Soma. ... Heck, you might want to use an SP recovery item anyway, if you're pretty low.
Otherwise, jump into Chi You. Do not forget this. Elizabeth will now be using two Persona each turn, but still get two attacks only; after she cycles through Fire/Ice, Electric/Wind, Light/Dark, she'll start varying it up (in my experience, she does ailment/electric next, but after that she has a new cycle to pay attention to). Chi You has no resistances to worry about, and as long as you watch for physical resistances on her end, you should be able to whittle her back down to the 9999 threshold. Just keep using Charge + Brave Blade, and heal yourself when necessary. Pop one or two Theurgies if you want (again, save Armageddon for later), toss Debilitator Sutras at her if you'd like to weaken her, and Empowering Sutras on yourself. Elizabeth's a glutton for punishment... so go ham.
Important!
Be very careful to not get her below 10,000 without switching to Helel. You need his Endure ability to survive her last Megidolaon. Or, again, if you have a different Persona with Endure just use what you're comfortable with.
Also: SAVE YOUR THIRD THEURGY FOR ARMAGEDDON. Feel free to use Theurgy moves, at most, twice before getting her close to 10,000 hp. Remember to keep in mind where you are on her health bar, the game won't tell you. Around the 11-12,000 mark, hold back on using Theurgy. Save up for the next one. Chi You should be able to whittle down the remainder, and once she's as close to 10,000 as possible, switch to Helel. Use Morning Star to get her below 10,000. Endure kicks in automatically for her last attack (her grand finale, as she calls it). At last, hit her with the Armageddon Theurgy. This always deals 9999 damage, and you need to save this for last because it can only be used once. If you use it up prior to this, you've lost the fight. Trying to attack Elizabeth normally after she's below 10,000 is a futile effort - she'll just heal back up, and cast Megidolaon on you eventually. You've got one shot, but if you've roughly been following what I did here... Pat yourself on the back and enjoy the post-battle chat with Lizzy~ You'll get no EXP from this fight, no materials.... Just a Platinum Bookmark for bragging rights.
If you talk to her at the entrance of Tartaros, she'll give you an Omnipotent Orb. That's your main reward for the Hell she put you through. ^_^ Unfortunately, you can't use it against her in any subsequent NG+ playthrough, but the orb does carry over to NG+. As stated above, Lizzy does not appreciate her elemental attacks not connecting... She will nuke you if you break her rules. Lizzy wants to play, so play nice~
If you stuck it out this long, I salute you. Most other guides are more professional and more in-depth, I suppose. But I figure not everyone has the patience to prepare perfectly for a fight with Elizabeth, not with max levels and stats for Personas... Those can take a while to grind. This is just how I managed it, and I'm throwing my ideas out there for anyone else struggling. (人◕ω◕)

Ghost in the Machine
Summary: The Jedi Exile discovers and decides to fix up the clearly-tampered-with HK found in her cargo hold to less-than-stellar results, and to further find that she is forever haunted by Revan's ghost.
Rating: T Word Count: 3,875
~~~
“Not bad, Exile!” Brianna applauded, miming clapping her hands together though the Echani did nothing of the sort. “No really, please try harder.”
“Damn, I didn’t realize you were also a professional insult comic,” Eden breathed, still winded from Brianna’s surprise roundhouse kick to the face. “But sure, I’ll try again.”
Eden fell into formation, trying not to relish in the smile threatening to spread across the Last Handmaiden’s face as she fell into stance across from her. The cargo bay was the perfect place to spar, so it was no wonder Brianna had found refuge here. Aside from it being the last claimed space on this tiny freighter, the room was spacious enough to roam and not feel boxed in, whether you were fighting real or imagined opponents. Or simply just trying to sleep.
Eden remembered the sad excuse of a room Brianna had tucked away in Atris’ secret academy, and though Brianna hadn’t adorned or claimed the cargo hold in any way other than by sleeping in it, it still felt more lived-in and homey than whatever the girl had back on Telos.
“Alright, promise not to go lightly on me, okay?” Eden pleaded. “I really want to learn. I mean it .”
“If you say so,” Brianna shrugged, the pleasure clear in her eyes even if she had the discipline to control her expression. The Echani immediately feinted left and jabbed right, high then low. Eden caught both jabs but fumbled on the second, losing her footing by the time Brianna grabbed the arm Eden meant to block with, intending to upend her center of gravity. But this time, Eden countered by shifting her weight, disorienting the Echani enough to catch her off guard.
“An improvement, certainly,” Brianna said, even-keeled. Eden was already out of breath and wanted to laugh. “But there’s one thing you haven’t considered--”
Just as Brianna moved to knock Eden down again, the Hawk jostled, sending both women against the far wall and onto the floor in a painful heap.
“Okay, now that, I didn’t do,” Eden said, grunting.
“I’m going to kill that pilot of ours,” Brianna seethed as she peeled herself off of Eden, gravity still forcing them downwards even as they struggled to right themselves. “That idiot doesn’t know how to-”
Eden was about to laugh despite how much her ribs hurt when a flickering on the wall above her alighted in her peripheral vision.
“Wait a tic,” Eden interrupted, now pushing Brianna off her with more force than intended. With a half-hearted sorry, Eden stood and, fighting gravity as the ship’s g-force stabilized again, approached the flickering wall with great interest.
“I shouldn’t be surprised that moron damaged something,” Brianna said, setting herself upright beside Eden and dusting herself off. “Wait, is that supposed to do that?”
Eden was fidgeting with the wall now, which she quickly realized was a panel. She rushed across the room to her pile of clothes, finding her hydrospanner within seconds, and with a little prodding the loose panel soon became an entire secret compartment, now no longer hidden.
“Is that-?”
Before Brianna could finish her thought, both women had fetched their weapons from across the room and had them drawn, at the ready, aimed at an opponent they quickly realized was--
“I think it’s deactivated.” Eden said tentatively into the tense silence that followed. Brianna shook her head, unsure, keeping her staff poised towards the dilapidated HK that slumped in the now-open access hatch behind the secret panel. Eden tip-toed forward, hand extended half-expecting to be vaporized before she got a chance to truly examine the thing.
“Are you certain?” Brianna asked, her voice a cautious whisper, as if the droid might overhear them. “These machines have been hunting you across the galaxy. Seems a bit of a coincidence one turns up hidden on the very ship you stole as a getaway. I think it’s a trap.”
Brianna held her quarterstaff aimed at the HK’s half-collapsed intelligence module, but Eden deactivated her lightsaber as she stepped closer. Switching out her saber for a blaster pistol, its nose edging toward the droid, Eden’s eyes scanned the entirety of the HK, keen on finding any signs of life.
“Key components are missing,” Eden said, her voice faraway, her mind racing. For a moment, Eden felt as if she were back on Tatooine again, inspecting a shipment of junk dumped on her doorstep by either a dehydrated scavenger eager for credits or a bargain-hungry Jawa, their glowing eyes alight like a used landspeeder salesman keen for a good trade. Part of her was comfortable, an old self settling into new skin like a fond memory. But another part of her knew Brianna was right. “Someone dismantled this thing, deliberately.”
It wasn’t the usual pieces that were missing, not the parts someone might grab for when in a tussle. The vocabulator, control cluster, droid processor and the chassis were all missing. Either someone needed a lot of credits, and badly. These parts didn’t come cheap, but they also weren’t easy to access. Especially for an older model, by the looks of it. Only someone with a lot of time - and a lot of know-how - would think to pilfer these parts over other chunks of the bronze plating that were much easier to get to and easier to fence. Or, whoever did this didn’t want the droid to be restored at all, short of destroying it entirely, knowing the parts would be hard to find.
“This doesn’t make any sense,” Eden whispered, frustration already washing over her as the cargo door swooshed open.
Brianna swung around, her quarterstaff still aimed at the HK but revealing a small knife from her boot to point at the door yelling excuse me! just as Atton’s head poked inside, his mouth opening and then promptly closing upon taking in the scene as well as Brianna’s and Eden’s attire. Or lack thereof.
“I’ll just… see myself out,” he said, his face turning red, but before he could disappear, Brianna had wrangled the pilot into the room with her knife-laden hand and pointed him towards the dilapidated droid.
“I’ll forgive you for your inane maneuver a moment ago if you can tell us anything about that !” The Last Handmaiden hissed as Atton was thrust into the room, his face growing redder by the second. Before his eyes could roam too freely across any part of Eden as they had back on Peragus, Atton’s gaze fell on the droid, and as if under the same spell drew out his blaster and nearly fired before Eden placed a hand on his wrist, setting his aim askew before he could do any potential damage.
“He wouldn’t know anything about this, Brianna,” Eden said, never taking her eyes off the HK. It was familiar, but not in a way that was remarkable enough for a specific memory to return to her. The HK’s that had open fired on her on Telos had been of the same make, and even if the rest had been silver -- HK-50’s -- something about this particular HK-47 did not sit well with her.
“Brianna?” Atton balked, blaster still poised as he spun around to look at the Last Handmaiden, “Your name is Brianna ?”
“Really? That’s what you’re taking away from all this?” Brianna snapped, her knife-hand now planted on her naked hip, annoyance radiating off her in waves of heat and undulating rage. “You just had to say my true name in his presence, didn’t you?” This last jab Brianna aimed at Eden, her voice softer now, as if not only to relay the difference in her brand of annoyance but also in the hopes that Atton might be too stupid to pick up on it despite standing right there.
“Atton, how fast can you get us back to Onderon?” Eden asked, ignoring Atton and Brianna’s usual back-and-forth as her memory raced, recalling every merchant they’d encountered and their respective inventory.
“We’re already on course to head back to Dantooine,” Atton said after gawking between both women, unsure of where to keep his eyes and who to respond to. “Why do you want to go back to Onderon?”
“I need to buy something.”
“Buy--?” Atton echoed before connecting the dots. “Oh.”
“Do you think this wise?” Brianna asked, the consternation still clear on her face as well as in her voice. Despite Atton’s confusion as to what was going on otherwise, his expression changed to match the Last Handmaiden’s.
“Yeah, what if this droid takes a shot at you the first chance it gets?” Atton said, gesturing with his blaster. “That’s what they’ve all done so far.”
“Not the one on Peragus,” Eden mused. “Besides, if I can get one of them to talk, maybe I can figure out who’s been sending them after me in the first place.”
Atton and Brianna exchanged looks, ultimately shrugging in unison before eventually relinquishing their weapons.
“If you say so,” Atton resigned, leaving the room before heading back to the cockpit to adjust the Hawk’s coordinates. Without a word, Eden began shouldering on her clothes again, but Brianna just watched.
“It’s more than that,” she surmised, Brianna’s eyes reading into every minute action Eden’s muscles made as if it might betray some clue. “It’s not just about the assassin droids, is it?”
Eden only smiled, knowing the expression did not meet her eyes.
“No. No it’s not.”
~~~
“You never did tell me exactly where you got this ship,” Eden pressed, her elbow leaning heavily into the door frame leading into Kreia’s quarters as Atton so affectionately called everyone else’s haunts aboard the Hawk. “But you didn’t know about the secret compartment, did you?”
“It’s no wonder it’s there,” Kreia admitted, though no emotion betrayed itself over her placid face. Her exposed mouth remained still beneath her lowered hood, the old woman’s head barely moving as she acknowledged Eden’s otherwise unannounced entrance. “We learned it belonged to a one crime lord, Davik Kang, did we not?”
“That we did,” Eden sighed, already annoyed. Her gaze bored into the upper part of Kreia’s hood, where she knew the woman’s eyes were, dormant in the dark, wondering if she could see her through the Force as Visas did. “But you didn’t examine the thing before taking off? There was no sign that you might not have been alone?”
Kreia shook her head. There were plenty of times where Eden was not sure if Kreia was lying or not, or at least sheathing the truth beneath a veneer of half-truths and vague notions. This time, she felt it. The woman was earnest in her ignorance. In fact, Kreia hated it. A wave of unease radiated off of the woman as Eden thought it, validating her claim as well as resenting it, sensing both Eden’s accusation as well as her attestation in one fell swoop.
“Perhaps it is the doing of the HK that bested us both aboard the Harbinger,” Kreia offered with an air of corroboration, though Eden still sensed the ire in the old woman’s words. “That machine was full of secrets and subterfuge, far more advanced than the others we’ve encountered.”
“True,” Eden agreed, pushing off from the door frame and crossing her arms over her chest. “So, that’s it then -- you know nothing?”
Kreia almost sneered, but she hardly had to. Eden felt her disdain through the Force, a ripple of apprehension fluttering towards her in the open room, before dissolving into tired calm as Kreia inhaled and exhaled with purpose.
“To my displeasure, yes.”
“Understood,” Eden said, taking her leave, meaning it but also not. She knew the woman was keeping something from her still, but her surprise at the news of the droid hidden in the cargo bay was enough to tell Eden that at least Kreia had no knowledge of its presence before being told moments ago. The woman knew something, and was hiding it. Just… not that.
Eden did not know if it made her feel better or worse.
~~~
“Was this really worth the effort?” Bao asked slowly, his voice even softer than usual at Eden’s side as she slid the chassis into place, the final piece of the HK puzzle.
His question wasn’t so much about his own curiosity as much as it was an observation, his uncanny knack for speaking Eden’s deeper thoughts into existence despite her denial at the reality of it all. While Bao rarely spoke of his own inner world, he was always gently coaxing Eden out of her own, knowing full well the tumult that stormed within -- even if he was not ready to let her do the same for him. At least not yet.
The module clicked , satisfying some baser part of Eden, at least enough to soothe her nerves before the anticipation simply ate away at her to nothing.
“It delayed us quite a bit, nearly costing us the situation on Onderon,” she admitted. “So it better be worth it. Have your saber at the ready.”
Bao nodded. Eden swallowed, nodding back at him, and turned to the HK. Its eyes were vacant, dark, but once she flipped the switch they grew from hollow brown to bright amber. It awoke.
“Diagnostic: HK-47 activated. Running checks through primary systems,” the droid began in a low gurgle, its voice modulator growing smoother with each syllable. A low hum began in the belly of the thing, eventually encompassing the entire workspace as circuits lit up and several sparks snapped as old wiring finally came to life. Eden and Bao exchanged looks, only this time Eden enacted her lightsaber so it glowed a deep molten orange, setting the HK’s bronze plating aglow.
“Assessment: It appears I have suffered considerable damage and dismemberment. I can feel all the cracks in my motivators,” the HK drawled incredulously. “And my control cluster seems to have taken several repeating blaster shots at close range. How crude.”
Something about this HK was… off . Much like the HK-50 that tried to shuttle her off of Peragus at the expense of everything else living on the station, this model had the same brand of snobbish superiority. The other HK’s they’d encountered were frank, sure, but none had this much personality right off the bat. Most of them just had a single quip ready for her before opening fire, but like the one that had managed to hold Eden hostage, this droid had quite a tongue.
“Why were you in our storage hold?” Eden asked, her voice more timid than she’d intended. Her brain was too busy making calculations to cast her voice more commandingly, but she cringed nonetheless.
“Answer: I do not know, Master-” Don’t call me that, Eden hissed before the droid rambled on, “It is curious I was here - although this place does seem familiar.”
The droid’s intelligence module spun about, its eyes flashing as if taking in the scene like a person awakening from a coma.
“Extrapolation: Perhaps someone was already in the process of rebuilding me. It may be that I was needed for some task.”
Eden’s mind swam with so many questions but there was only one that made its way to her mouth.
“Are you… okay?” she asked, her eyes still pausing over the droid’s exposed bits and rusted portions of its outer shell. There was evidence of blasterfire but Eden wasn’t convinced that was the machine’s cause of death, so to speak.
“Answer: If by ‘okay’ you mean the loss of almost all my existing assassination protocols, then no, I am not okay. Furthermore, I seem to have no discretionary control over my vocabulator, causing me to reveal my true function as an assassin droid of unrivaled sophistication.”
Eden crossed her arms over her chest, though she sensed Bao bristling at her side. “You look a lot like a series of droids that have attacked me. Anything to say about that?”
“Answer: Oh that is impossible, Master. If I were out to kill you, you would not be speaking.” Eden shot Bao-Dur a pointed glance, not that she was happy or proud about the fact just relayed to them both. Bao held his weapon ready nonetheless. “And regardless, I am a unique model. Why, to think that there would be other versions of me would be unacceptable.
“Well, there’s at least four other now-defunct versions of you in the galaxy.” Eden huffed a laugh, to which the droid only balked.
“Master, I must inform you that your attempts at humor are wasted on such a droid as I. As I have expressed, I am unique .”
“I can just blast him, General,” Bao whispered sidelong to her. “By rifle or by my arm, we can be rid of the thing sooner than you can say the word.”
Eden appreciated the offer but shook her head, hoping the sentiment translated as Bao unwittingly backed down yet again.
“Trust me, there’s a series of HK-50 units sharing your model and function that we have encountered on multiple occasions,” Eden said deadpan, though the suspicion did not leave her voice. The droid perked up at that, either noting her observation for future personal investigation or taking it as an affront.
“Very well, Master,” the droid drawled, “Though please know that this discovery is also causing me some degree of anger. And humiliation.”
“ Are you alright?” Eden echoed from before, this time not stopping Bao-Dur as he took another step closer to the droid, his right hovering over his blaster as his left hovered precariously over the button of his lightsaber.
“Mockery: Am I alright? Oh yes, Master, why, I am fine,” the droid groaned, looking at Bao’s display as if it were merely an inconvenience and not a direct provocation. “Statement: I mean, I have only just been re-activated, only to find that there are sub-standard duplicates of me running around all over the galaxy, corroding my good name. But if they are in fact hunting you, then I look forward to the opportunity to meet these units - and educate them in proper assassination protocols!”
If the HK could huff in indignation, Eden imagined the droid would have.
“Conclusion: So it seems I need you - for the time being.”
“So it’s true?” Eden pressed. “You’re an assassin droid?”
“Recitation: Yes , as I said, I am an assassin droid. It is my primary function to burn holes through meatbags that you wish removed from the galaxy… Master .”
“What did you say?” Eden asked, her voice a husk of a whisper now.
“Master,” the HK repeated. “Oh, how I hate that term.”
“No not that, Maker never say Master again,” Eden said, finally disabling her saber and slumping to what was eventually to the floor. Bao-Dur moved to catch her, but Eden preferred this, the ground, as ridiculous as it was. “The… the other thing.”
“Query: Meatbag?”
Eden nodded, though her head felt detached from the rest of her body as she did so. Bao-Dur moved awkwardly beside her, still hovering as if he might catch her though she’d already descended to the floor and made a temporary home there, so after bending and unbending, Bao finally decided to crouch by her side and place a hand on her shoulder, anchoring her to the present if anything.
“Hey did you manage to--?” Atton’s voice spirited into the room, cutting the silence like a knife. Eden’s eyes darted up towards the garage entrance just as Bao’s did, the droid spinning around on its core hinges to face Atton directly at the intrusion. Atton’s eyes widened to disks as he took in the scene. “Uh… activate the droid?”
“What does it look like?” Bao-Dur asked, his voice even though Eden sensed the bite in his words beneath every syllable.
Atton swallowed as he entered the room proper, looking as if he wanted to do the opposite despite taking a few steps closer. “I’ll take all of whatever’s going on here as an uncertain but unmistakable yes.”
The HK extended an arm, as if a blaster were attached though no such thing was equipped, and instead held an empty socket aloft in Atton’s direction.
“Offer: I can dispense of this meatbag if you wish,” the HK suggested, “Just give the order--”
“No!” Eden hissed, shooting to her feet. “No and no.”
“Affirmation: As you wish,” the droid surrendered, sounding thoroughly disappointed as it turned back to Eden.
“Did you find out who’s been sending these things after you?” Atton asked, taking a step back as if the droid might rescind its offer to spare his life for now. Eden shook her head.
“It’s not one of them,” Eden said. Bao spun around to look at her now, just confused as Atton was.
“How do you know that?” Bao-Dur pressed, careful to ensure that his inactive saber was still facing the droid just in case it became a threat. “You asked the machine no such thing.”
“I know because I remember this HK unit specifically,” Eden said. She glanced at Atton this time, making sure she caught his eye before adding, “Unlike the one on Peragus.”
“What does that mean?” Atton asked.
“I modded this droid, twelve years ago,” she began, her voice hitching as the memory returned to her in full. Don’t call me meatbag, Alek had seethed. Eden had merely laughed, but it was the last thing she wanted to do now, despite the howl building in her throat at the irony of it all. “For Revan.”
“Revan?!” Bao-Dur and Atton both repeated at varying volumes and levels of surprise.
“Attestation: Revan, yes, that name does ring familiar,” the droid said in what Eden could almost call fond recollection.
“Just because you modded this droid to kill for Revan doesn’t mean she didn’t specifically want this droid to kill you, no?” Atton asked, eyes blazing as he reached for his blaster.
“For once, I agree with Atton,” Bao said as he enacted his saber, while Atton mouthed a despaired Hey! “I knew her as well as you, and after the way she set us up at Malachor? I wouldn’t doubt she meant for us all to perish on that moon.”
Bao-Dur’s lightsaber raged a silent sapphire in the din of the garage, and for once so far the HK was speechless.
“You may be right,” Eden sighed, her hand thrumming the button of her own saber but failing to flip the switch. “It can’t be a coincidence that a series of other HK’s were modded to assassinate in the wake of this one.”
Whoever did this knew me personally, Eden thought, the idea still too new, and too painful, to consider out loud. Or Revan.
“Admission: I recall Revan, but I do not recognize your face, Master. Despite my referring to you by such a title. I can call you something else if you wish.”
The droid almost sounded apologetic, but Eden knew it was only her perception. Or wishful thinking.
“You can call me Eden,” she sighed. The HK nodded, its eyes blinking once before verbally confirming her request.
“Confirmation: I shall call you Eden,” it echoed.
She should have felt relieved, but Eden only felt hollow, forever haunted by Revan’s ghost and cursed to follow her memory no matter what she did.
Notes: I posted this to AO3 in 2022 but never posted it here. I still rather like it writing-wise, but like a lot of stuff I write/post for kotor 2 this is a future snippet from my ongoing novel-length fic Out of the Abyss that can be read/enjoyed without the greater context of that retelling.
The history of the runes
How the runes came to be, the cults that picked them up and how they were expanded to the 47 we have today.
The runes are the hardest magic system to learn, but also the most versatile. A rune is a symbol carved into a rectangle of material. Different materials give the runes slightly different traits.
Ezemhaziel
The runes were first invented by Ezemhaziel and his boyfriend Rin. When Rin was killed, Ez curses the runes so that anyone who wanted to learn them had to suffer as he had suffered loosing the love of his life.
The runes Ez made were: Tas-Binding, Piko-Unbinding, Awen-Protection, Xaeren-Souls and Banishment and Pali-Healing.
The Runic Families
The runes were lost for nearly 800 years until around 650 PD when Ponturesi family found them in the altic lands. They studied them and discovered how they hypothetically could be used but could never actually use them because of the curse. They confided the secret to the Avandil family who were novice mages. They suggested maybe children had to be raised with the runes to learn how to use them. The two families tried raising children with the runes and training them like the old mages trained children, but still they couldn’t cast. The children did however start showing some connection to the runes. The Vandris family joined the experiments 5 years after the runes discovery and they researched the magical potential of the runes.
After years of this research, the Vandris found a legend of the altic people of a god who split the sky with screams after their love died. Part of this myth tells of a curse that was put on the god’s magic where a user would have to suffer to use the magic. The definitely not sadistic Vandris gave this idea to the Ponturesi who found local children, many of whom died in their pain experiments. One boy who survived was named Xaeren after the rune he was connected to. They trained him to use Xaeren, the rune of souls so they could better track how his soul was breaking when they abused him.
Xaeren
Xaeren was raised with the knowledge and suffering needed to use runes and he learned to use them in secret afraid of what the Ponturesi would make him do if he showed them his ability. When he was 14, the Ponturesi found that he was able to use runes when he pulled the soul out of a rat in his room. Xaeren ran, taking only a pouch of runes with him.
He dabbles in making runes and manages to make 5 by the time he is 17 just extrapolating from his knowledge as a runic. These runes are basic elements like Kiwen for stones, or most dense solid objects and Telo for water or liquids. He then makes practical runes like Atej-opening (for locked doors), Moli-death and Reanimation, and Tians -Pain because that is one thing he is very familiar with. He kinda stops for a while because he gets distracted and lacks motivation.
He does a whole bunch of side stuff, has a life for a while.
When he is 21 he has annoyed some gods and is trying to find a place to hide, and he stumbles across the cave which Ez and Rin used as a workshop while developing the runes. This cave is protected from gods as Ez stayed here for a little bit after Rin died and he did not want any gods near him in his grief. Xaeren is trapped here until the gods calm down a bit, or he thinks of a way out so he tries to make more runes. He ends up making 36 more runes while trapped here.
When he eventually gets bored again and leaves, the gods (who can remember things for more than 5 years apparently) banish him to an outer plane where he has no access to simple components to cast. The god visits him because of things he did in that period we ignored, but while there they cast a spell on him and Xaeren realises he can make a rune to control the magic gods cast. He has no materials so he carves the 47th rune, Ansiel-Divinity/Form into his skin and manages to bend the gods energy and escape back to Ez’s cave.
He then continues on with his life.
1500PD
In the present day, the three families are still adopting children to train into runics. Apollo and Tyro are adopted by the Ponturesi.
There is more but it is late. Feel free to ask questions <3
Artemis knows this has been coming for a long time. She’s felt it in the marrow of her bones since they slew Oryx and sent his corpse adrift; a silence that nags at the very back of her mind. The mantle is hers. All she need do is take it.
With eyes closed, she dips a hand into that vast expanse calling to her. Her Light buffers against it, shielding, heavy. The truth slices through it into her fingertip; she bleeds stars.
“It is ready.” Eris’ voice rings through the desolate throne room of the Dreadnaught. An empty court awaiting its king.
Circles upon circles ring Artemis where she stands. Soulfire burns green in braziers placed where the circles end and begin in endless spirals. Runes and sigils will siphon the power towards her when she calls upon it, binding it to her. She does not spare a glance towards Eris and Lune hovering just over her shoulder. What will happen is done, she has made this decision and will bear it without regret. She hopes her Ghost can do the same.
She hefts the wicked blade wielded once by the King of Shapes and stabs it into the floor at her feet. The words that pour forth are such:
“I have slain Oryx, the Taken King, and by the many-edged truth I take his mantle!
By the truth of blades I assume the power to take life and make it my own!
I stand before the Deep as the end to which everything bends. I am the logic of swords wielded by heretical undeath.
I am Telos, Master of Shapes! Blade of Finality! The Taken King!
Henceforth will it be! Aiat!”
The question that is its answer echoes a chorus over and over. Her connection to the Light snaps, a clean break of bone. There is something waiting for her in the space between infinite moments, she reaches a dagger-clawed hand forth and cuts it for herself. A weave of impossible stars, beautiful in their finality. It drapes over her eyes and slips between her fingers like water, but she holds firm. The Deep will not claim her will so easily. Blind she cups her hands and lifts them to her mouth. She is devourer of secrets; she will make this power hers. She drinks and drinks and drinks. The black fire stars make home in her belly, in her lungs, her heart that now beats with the attention of thousands.
She is ascendant.
Existence returns to her in a flash of lightning. Light courses through her nerves, retracing the paths it has run a thousand times over. It crackles alongside this newfound power, sparking between her fingers like she’s grave fresh once more.
She scuffs the ritual circles with a step forward, she needs to find Eris… find…. The world tips, unbalanced, as though she’s seeing it with more eyes than before. Then Eris is there, a brace beneath her shoulder to keep her upright.
“Careful,” she admonishes. “Our success has yet to prove itself.”
Eris leads them over to the half dead thrall they brought. The first test of the new king’s abilities. It writhes against its rune inscribed bindings.
Take… whispers a voice in the darkness. Take it...
With a hand wreathed in abyssal flame she does. Palm laid flat against its eyeless skull she pushes the tide of her will into it. It shrieks like rending marrow as the physical is unmade. Darkness and lightless flame consume it from the inside outwards, leaving only a glowing, twitching shell.
Buoyed on the power rushing through her, she raises that same hand and cuts a wound into reality. Her inherited army is smaller than it would have been had she taken the mantle sooner, but all the same dozens more thrall flood through the gash. All awaiting her command.
“How is this for success?” Telos’ voice booms across her court. Laughter follows on its tail. “I am now master of death and the shapes it takes. A thrice dead god. Guardian and King!” She looks back to Eris, hand extended. “Our sister of War stands no chance.”
I think today I'm going to finally draw the main party for Wanderlust, so that'll be
-Luther (Resident human flower wizard/secret chronomancer)
-Ernest (Greedy swindling "avian" (still haven't come up with a good name for them yet) swan merchant)
-Briar (Young "avian" hummingbird pickpocketer and assistant/adopted kid to Ernest)
-Riley (Disgraced tiefling pirate with a cursed sword)
-Jackal (wingless vampire necromancer/rockstar)
-August (Exiled fairy/weather controller joining Luther on his travels because he saved their life)
And if I feel like it, some of the more villain characters too like
-Ray (Time cult grandmaster/Luther's old boss and lover)
-Telo (Tyrannical half-avian controlling Roostridge/unknowing grandchild of Ray)
-Malakos (cursed human pirate, the one person Riley wants to grind into a fine paste)
-Apollo (Morally grey area, giant cosmic warden who imprisons those who try and use illegal spells and forbidden magic to destroy the world)
Wowie ! That was a very crazy first episode ! There is so much to talk about : )
I love snails !!
That was most of what I wanted to say ! But I had some other general thoughts haha : ) who knows though, it's very early on !
Teeth appears to be connected to the Reveler, due to the purple flash from the windowsill! They also appear to have an established, complex relationship with death. In combination with the fact that their house appears to be a sort of museum and their face has holes in it, I think that they died ! Haha, maybe that's a longshot though : )
Wowie, I love Olive ! I feel as though the storm was caused by the wrath of a member of the pantheon due to how powerful it was ! It seems strange that a member of their own pantheon would hurt the kingdom, though . . . That would be bad ! Either there is a rogue god, or I think there may be another pantheon at play ! Haha, is that even possible ?
42 seems to have something in common with 53 that is a secret! I don't think Therefore wants them to talk about whatever it is haha !
Darling has cool clothes ! : )
It looks like Maris has only one god that she is afraid of unlike all the rest ! It isn't the Champion or the Exalted, since they're accounted for! That leaves the Reveler, the Boatman, the Fool, the Poet, the Scholar, or the Cultivator ! The Reveler, the Boatman, and the Scholar are already thematically accounted for from the other realities. The Fool is likely not the problem, so probably the Poet or the Cultivator : ) just a thought!
I wonder who the "I'm sorry" on the grave is from ! Could it be from the person who passed away ? If that's the case, do they have some power or existence from beyond the grave ? Or could it be from Telos ? What would Telos have to be sorry for ? Who knows, haha !
Why did Telos remove these people from their realities ? Doesn't that go against the idea of purpose ? Why would they try to keep them safe and keep them from doing something if that removes meaning from their lives ? That seems so antithetical to the idea of Telos, haha!
I like Stingray : )
Okay, those are just a couple of silly little thoughts and questions, haha ! Farewell friends !
Exile's Trial Overlay Removal Mod
This mod removes the blue overlay of the scene of the Exile's trial on Coruscant in The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM).
In Knights of the Old Republic II, after you leave the secret academy on Telos for the first time and enter the Ebon Hawk, there will be a cutscene involving a holo record of the Jedi Exile's trial on Coruscant. Since it is a holo record, TSLRCM adds a blue overlay, which is used by security cameras in other parts of the game, to the trial scene, but I personally prefer the scene in full colour like in the vanilla game, so this mod is made.
Can you tell us more about the Dalek-Galvan Wars? And has there been a Cyberman war?
The first Dalek-Galvan War occurred around the time of the Dalek Civil War, when the Imperial Daleks commenced an invasion on a number of at the time unaligned worlds, including Methanos, Terradino, Appoplexia, Polyterrinous, Kylmyss, Aranhascimmia, Aeropela and numerous others with the express purpose of secretly establishing a territory unknown to the renegade Daleks. The Galvan Alliance came to their aid, as did the people of Encephalonus IV. During the battle, the combined abilities of the various races were able to repel the Imperials, and the invaded worlds joined the Galvan Alliance.
Some believe the second Dalek-Galvan War was simply retribution, but it was far more. Now one faction again as the new Restoration Empire, the Daleks began their war with devastating attack. Striking a Galvan cruiser traveling faster than light with one of their own ships, resulting in debris shooting at lightspeed and striking numerous alliance planets. The Daleks followed this with invasions on Galvan Planets, but this was all a façade. In secret, a Dalek fleet raced to the Chronian Abyss in an attempt to invade and conquer the Chronosapiens and use their technology and knowledge to mass produce time drives to give their fleets massive time travel capabilities. While the Galvan Alliance's plumber division defended their member worlds, the invasion of the Chronian Abyss was stopped by the actions of two Time Lords... or more accurately, the same Time Lord, existing at the same time in two different incarnations at once... there was a lot of bickering involved...
As for Cyber-Galvan conflicts, their have never been any active wars, though the Cybermen have made several failed raids on the territory. They have, however, attempted to raid Galvan Prime to obtain the Codon Stream in order to analyze it to see what species would be incompatible for conversion, and what modifications can be made to allow them to Cyber-Convert species.
As for other wars, the Daleks and Cybermen engaged in war for simply territory. The biggest Cyberman conflicts were the Cyber Wars, where following their invasion and occupation of Telos, the Cybermen engaged in a massive invasion of surrounding systems, coming into direction conflict with the Shadow Proclamation in a major war. During this war, the Shadow Proclamation were aided by the Wreckers and Iron Company of Cybertron, who agreed to hold the line in preventing the Cybermen from expanding deeper into neutral space and converting denizens of worlds within, leading to an understanding that neither the Shadow Proclamation and the Cybertronian Commonwealth would infer on each others territories.
Wow. Seriously, I had heard amazing things about this story and yet it took me by surprise. Incredibly emotional and with a lot to say about the main cast, all of that told through a simple but efficient conflict that was a delight to follow. This story doesn’t have an antagonist; instead it’s about the inherent danger of the situation they are in and the humanity and complexities of the characters - a huge triumph. For sure one of my, if not the, favorites stories of the Fifth Doctor. I hope this range brings more great surprises like this.
◆ Resistor - ★☆☆☆☆
So disappointing after how good The Pursuit of the Nightjar was, I finished listening to Resistor completely frustrated. There are good ideas and some scenes I like list in an unfocused script and a direction that gets in the way of the narrative. Unfortunetely there is not much too like this time.
◆ The Eye of the Scorpion - ★★★★★
The Eye of the Scorpion is a triumph both as a story and a companion introduction, establishing a strong and interesting characterization for Erimem with a lot o potential for future releases; but also offering new angles to look at the Fifth Doctor and Peri, specially at this point of the timeline. Some purists may dislike how this arc - and other stories featuring Five and Peri - mess with The Caves of Androzani, but that’s not a sentiment I share. As much as I agree that Androzani is a deserving classic, I disagree that much is lost because of more adventures at the end of this Doctor’s life - and if the price I have to pay for listening to a TARDIS team I quite like is that his sacrifice is not for a stranger but for a close friend, so be it.
Complete rewiew: here.
◆ The Church and the Crown - ★★★★☆
I finished The Church and the Crown with an grin in my face between Five being a silly guy and asking the musketeers to shout “one for all and all for one!” and Erimem finally being invited to permanently travel in the TARDIS. It’s just their second story and the chemistry of the cast is in the heights and there is this fondness between the characters that warms my heart. A very good pure historical and another triumph for the Fifth Doctor adventures, there is a lot to like in this story. And the cover is gorgeous.
Complete review: here.
◆ Nekromanteia - ☆☆☆☆☆
“No one is born innocent in this district, Doctor” perhaps is the perfect summary to Nekromanteia. A story full of unpleasant and disguting characters that is painful to hear; the only good thing about it is the regular cast that tries to salvage whatever they can of this trainwreck. But of course, the story is not satisfied with being plainly bad and so it makes an effort to spend its two hour disrespecting that cast. That is honestly trying. Peter Davison was absolutely right to protest about this.
Complete review: here.
◆ The Axis of Insanity - ★★★☆☆
“The lunatics have taken over the asylum!”, the line that serves as the cliffhanger of part two is the best summary The Axis of Insanity could ever ask for. It revolves around a caricate villain but that was never a ploblem - the opposite actually, it’s an example of an one-note character that works really well because the acting and the dynamic with the cast compesates the simplicity. It’s also a plot that gives all regulars something to do at some point and show a new side of them because of it. It’s not one of my favorite stories - I did not exagerate when I said to not listen to it if you have a headache - but it’s fun tale that gives you exactly what was promised.
Attuning to the Standing Ones: with Isis Indriya, Nat Kelley and Timo Granzotti ft. Shira Netanya
What does the sacred tree of life tell us about our telos on planet Earth? What secrets do the trees hold, and how do we listen to them and allow them to show us the way? Ahead of the advaya course curated by Imaginal, Tree of Life, the three course curators dialogue about attuning to the trees, this time of initiation that humanity is facing, and how we may be of service to the forests, as we so urgently need to do now. Special guest Shira Netanya also explores the Kabbalah and Tree of Life, and weaves the cosmological and ecological stories of unity from and with the trees.
