Can I ask 🦇 with who would be the most dangerous to face in a vampire AU ? And then the least dangerous please ?

OOOOH This is actually such a fun question, because it begs the question as to what consistitutes as a "dangerous" vampire. What truly makes a vampire dangerous? Their seductive allure? Their physical strength? Their supernatural abilities?

I would like to propose 2 potential answers for most dangerous:

Emil, because of his warm and welcoming nature. His sunny disposition would likely lead you to lowering your guard. He would totally give you the impression that he'd be anything but. And then when your guard is down? Bite to the neck, and he wouldn't spare a drop.

But also I would like to suggest as a secondary Sefu. Sefu wouldn't hesitate to just rip out your throat and run you dry. No restraint. Sure, you might be asking "What about Kingsley?" Kingsley cares about diplomacy. Kingsley is a strategist with things to lose. He plays his cards extremely carefully. What happens when you take someone who has nothing to lose and fill them with insatiable blood lust? And that's what makes Sefu dangerous.

The least dangerous is a much harder question tbh. There's something about Xiáng's nonchalance and impulsivity that could be dangerous in circumstances, but largely would be chill. He has the potential to be a force to be reckoned with. And yet... perhaps not.

Oooh!!! Thank you bb!!! I'm pretty sure I answered this for my OG four, so I'll focus on the newer folks for now. If I end up finding that I haven't answered for the OG 4, then I will come back and add on!

Xiáng: Jamil, yeah. The fact that Xiáng often times just wants to vibe and have fun, and Jamil is always there, ready to nag at him? It really gets on his nerves.

Vex: Ace. He's incredibly wishy washy and disrespectful. He certainly has a spine, which is admirable, but he is whiney, and flakey, and they are tired of him complaining.

Sefu: Jack. He's so annoying and constantly gets in the way of Leona doing what he wants to do. He's also such a goodie-two-shoes try hard that it really grinds his gears. For someone who loves to talk about honor and loyalty, he definitely seems to be lacking from their perspective.

😳 - Reaction to being flirted with?

Oisín: Oh, if its their person? They are flirting RIGHT BACK, THEY ARE. They are gross and sappy and openly romantic with Lilia, and you can't stop them. If it's someone else though?? They are gonna get super shy and bashful and panic a bit.

Emil: Depending on the flirt, he might openly say thank you but not necessarily reciprocate. Unless he is interested in that person. If he's being flirted with someone he is interested in, but isnt in a relationship with? Oh, he's dying. He's screaming internally. He's losing his mind. In private, he will kick his feet and giggle when the person isnt looking. If its someone he is actively dating, then he's either giggling or he's reciprocating the energy.

René: Prior to dating, they would have to figure out if its genuine interest or not, and what's the nature of that interest. They would be inclined to sus out the nature of the flirt. But if its genuine, and done without recirpocation? C O N F U S I O N. Why are you interested!? What do you even see??? Are you ACTUALLY interested in me? Or what you think im like???? U H??? WHY???? NO. This will ONLY go poorly for you???

However, if its someone they are ALSO interested in? Oh, bold of you to assume they didn't flirt FIRST. They are initiating. They are reciprocating. They are trying to lure you into their grasp. They WANT you to pursue them. Don't take your eye off them. They are your world now.

Xiáng: There is a solid chance he won't notice. But if he DOES realize what is being put down, it really depends on whether he's interested. He might ignore it and pretend its not happening. He might also return the favor.

🤕 - Reaction to being injured?

Oisín: It... depends. Getting fatally stabbed by a golden hilt certainly left them unconscious so uh... they didn't exactly respond to that. Also when you are fighting in a war, you do *have* to walk it off, even if it stings and hurts. Even if their ash is billowing like eddies and their body is trembling, giving up is death.

But beyond that they are very reserved. They try not to broadcast their pain. To anyone.

Emil: if HE is injured? It depends on severity. If he can walk it off, he will. If he has to heal himself, he will. If he has to rest, he will. He is a crier but he's a quiet crier. He will fight while having tears streaming down his cheeks.

René: What injury? Walk it off.

Kingsley: What injury? Walk it off.

Xiáng: There's an injury??? (Spoken in the tone of "there's a bee???????") Unless of course it triggers his curse. Then he's in pain. He's dizzy. He's dissociated. His head is exploding. He needs a nap.

Sefu: What injury? Walk it off.

Vex: She'll be fine; she promises. Don't mind them wincing or hissing. It's fine. Don't worry about it. They can take care of it (with what skills???) they promise.

🤒 - Reaction to being sick?

Oisín: ....do dullahan get sick? I don't know as they do.

Emil: He is stubborn and will try to push on. But if he is sick to the point where he can't, then he definitely is the kind of person to create a burrow and seek comfort. Its that double whammy of wanting to be cared for and comforted but also not wanting to get anyone else sick. Tragic, really. Also he probably is self medicating at this point. For better or for worse. And its debatable if that herb concoction is legal.

René: THATS A GRUMPY SWAN, THAT IS.

Kingsley: Someone is gonna have to chain this man in bed, jfc. He's going to be stubborn and he's going to try to push through it like nothing happened.

Xiáng: He's a bit whiney, actually. Normally, he's not whiney at all. But when he's sick, he's whiney.

Sefu: there is a non-zero chance this lion beastman is sulking. They *hate* being sick. In any regard.

Vex: on the one hand, ew being sick sucks. On the other hand? Their magic will help them accomplish things. And they can always read a book and nap to pass the time.

I imagine 80s punk, vampire Sefu has patches like you wouldn't believe. The Not-Lion Guard symbol painted on their back like they belong in a place they're unwanted. With the upside-down cross, and a fanged patch to match. There's probably a World of Darkness reference in here somewhere as well but you know. UwU

Xiáng: "the kind ingested by an oppressive government" ○v●

Emil: "The herbal kind! Easily disintegrated into liquids~."

René: "My partner---"

Xiáng: So this is a fun one because it requires me to actually talk in depth about his curse. Xiáng was cursed for standing up against Imperial Officials for being cruel. He got in their way, made a show of their cruelty, and nearly crashed their carriage intentionally to save an elderly woman. This curse actively causes him to dissociate a LOT and sends a painful magical surge through his body whenever he "feels too much". You can see the light re-enter his eyes when in fleeting moments, he becomes grounded, either because he is feeling a lot, is playing music, or is impulsively getting up to mischief. Otherwise, he looks... dull. Not all there.

Sefu: Sefu unfortunately is less ornate. The light in their eyes reappears in two circumstances- 1) Leona and 2) intentional violence towards others.

Is there anything specific that you really love about your ocs?

Thank you so so much for asking this? First, I'm honored and incredibly appreciative of you for asking. And second, you really got me thinking about what I *do* love about them and why I continue to explore them even after 11 months of being in this fandom space.

So this is going to seem like a generic, generalized response, but it is something that applies to all of them.

I really love how each of my OCs, at least in my perspective, very very clearly can be traced back to their source materials while simultaneously being their own characters.

Starting with Oisín, Oisín from the get go was always meant to align both with "The Headless Horseman" and also dullahan mythology (specifically Irish and Scottish folklore). And yet, because of the way they evolved and the way I developed them in alignment with the narrative of "Twisted Wonderland", they became their own being. --- idk if folks even knew this. I never set out to have them shipped with Lilia. It entirely developed naturally and on its own. And it has turned into arguably my favorite ship out of all of them. The Headless Horseman??? Married to a Vampire???? Incredible. Amazing. 10/10

Then you have Kingsley and like... he is so at his core the Horned King, and every which way you look at his narrative, even his character development? It aligns itself in the way that the narrative of the "Chronicles of Prydain" unfolds. Even when he has his seige on the castle, it feels on par with the actions of the Horned King or any of the other antagonists from the series. His temperment and his personality? 100% - and yet his choices are his own. His narrative is his own. He gets the Cauldron. He gets to KEEP the Cauldron. Its HIS. Not Tarran's!!!!!

René, Rémi, and Eve are so painfully the main trio of "Swan Lake" (the ballet). And yet René's entire narrative and personality is contingent on a question that the ballet NEVER answers or even considers: "Who is Odile without Rothbardt?" And so the Odile we get in NRC, René, is my interpretation of who Odile would be when alone. How she would act if functioning on her own and without the evil magician. So sure, René is Odile. But René also is René. And only René.

Emil holds an incredibly special place in my heart where this theme is concerned. I don't think many people are aware of the anti-semitism in "Tangled". So when I thought of the idea of a Dame Gothel expy, I went in with the idea of creating a Gothel who just was Jewish coded but not a charicature. I incorporated elements from the original Rapunzel tale, the adaptation of "Into the Woods", "Tangled", and added flavor in the form of jewish beliefs and jewish customs. It's resulted into a character who is very very clearly Gothel in his narrative and in his personality and in his relationships, but he isnt restricted by the narrative or characterization as depicted by Disney. He has grown beyond that just like the beanstalk that ended up in his bestie's backyard. Also-- his Overblot? Chef's kiss.

Xiáng is ESPECIALLY fun here. Because when I originally created him, I didn't have a Disney character in mind. He showed up an amalgamation of different ideas and themes from stories I've read recently that I really enjoyed. And then @inmateofthemind popped into my DMs and asked me if Xiáng was twisted from Crikee from "Mulan". And I sat there. And i looked at all the drawn comparisons. And i couldn't deny.... the parallels were to strong not to lean into it. And the more I leaned into it? The more and more he showed himself to BE Crikee. And yet he so ISNT!!!!!! It's honestly so fun.

Sefu is also really fun, because they came from a rewatch of Lion King 2: Simba's Pride with @ramshacklerumble . And I honestly just gave myself permission to take the idea of Zira and REALLY LEAN into the yandere, creepy territorial fan aspect of her character. It also gave me the opportunity to explore how I personally think Zira's dynamic with Scar looked like, based on the implications set out by the film. We never get to see it in the media, which means that Sefu does have the opportunity to expand beyond the scope of Disney, and I do get to determine how much Leona actually can't stand them lol.

Alphonse too is such a fun one. Because his source material depicts the Wellies as incredibly static and yet emotionally driven characters, I get the opportunity to explore the question "What would allow the Wellies (from "Giselle" the ballet) to actually move on and rest in the after life?" It's also a fun opportunity to explore the very blurred lines between fae and ghosts in older Anglo/Irish folklore, as the Wellies were supposed to be inspired by the Otherfolk.

So I have a personal headcanon that Briar Valley is more likely to celebrate Yule and the Winter Solstace rather than like... Christmas. While it may be difficult for the average person to see the differences due to real life synchrotism, I like to imagine Briar Valley celebrates a Yule without the influences of colonialism. So we might still see the fir trees and the lights in lanterns on the walkways. Feasts and stories by the fireplace are a must.

I imagine the way it translates in NRC too is that Oisín probably spends time with their Diasomnia family, being deliberate about doing Yuletide activities with them. As for the Ignihyde family, they probably offer for their clutch to join them in activities, with the understanding that no one is pressured to do anything.

So this is a fun one that I will have to offer a bit of explanation too. When designing Emil as a character, I was very deliberate in removing the anti-semitism from Gothel's depictions, in favor of actually leaning into the Jewishness of her character. When trying to figure out how much of Tangled I actually wanted to incorporate, I had the realization. Tangled has a holiday where they light lanterns... in hopes of bringing their lost princess home. Twisted Wonderland interprets the Disney animated films as mythos and folklore for their world, yeah? So I imagine the story of Rapunzel includes a holiday, where the people light lanterns in celebration of the lights that brought their Lost Princess back home and led her to freedom. The celebrations likely include dancing, singing, crafts and games, just like the festival in the film.

You know what that kind of not exactly sounds like? The Maccabees and the festivities of Chanukah. So I decided to lean into that and synchrotize certain elements, harmless nods of Chanukah into the Festival of Lights. Places that neatly overlap without any disrespect to the holiday that I personally celebrate, I opted to combine ideas. So... Emil and his hometown celebrate the Festival of Lights.

He's actually never heard of Yuletide or Christmas prior to coming to NRC. He tries to learn and be respectful of the traditions of his classmates and loved ones. And I do have a ficlet WIP that I hope to finish where Emil invites the unofficial cooking club to make latkes with him, to light a lantern, and to participate with him when he can't be at home.

René

The Black Swan is used to big holiday parties and social gatherings back home. So I like to imagine that René and the Octavinelle squad probably decorate the Lounge and put on a little celebration of their own.

René also gives gifts to the people they care about. At first, it's likely a superficial thing done for appearances. But as they grow and start actually developing and fostering relationships, they start to actually put effort into it. And sometimes those gifts arent even gifts, its quality time. Its acts of service.

Kingsley

This man is a Grinch LOL. Much like Briar Valley, the Cantrevs celebrate Yuletide and the Winter Solstace. It probably looks different for his home considering traditions tend to vary from region to region. And I tried to do research into Cymru, which is where the Chronicles of Prydain pulls its mythos and inspiration from. Again, keep in mind we have to do some imagining that its not been impacted by colonialism.

But when he's at NRC? He doesn't... get the festivities. If he has to under obligation, he'll participate. But he'll be pissed about it the entire time.

Xiáng

The Lunar New Year is definitely something I headcanon is celebrated in the Land of the Red Dragons. And I would say that all the food, clothing, games, dances, decorations... he actively participates in the festivities as much as he's permitted to.

I also had this fun idea that Xiáng goes to Kalim and asks if they can do a New Year's celebration. And Kalim sort of responds "I don't know anything about your Lunar New Year, but I LOVE a good party!!! Let's do it!!!" And Jamil walks into Scarabia SHOCKED that all the preparations were done behind his back, without his help, and the dorm isnt on fire.

Alphonse

Alphonse is also from Briar Valley. He likely celebrates Yule in a similar fashion to Oisín, but he is more likely to keep it to his close friends and loved ones. He is very intentional in giving Malleus, Xiáng, and Yuu gifts. And since he also spends a lot of his time between both Diasomnia and Ramshackle, he probably offers to help decorate Ramshackle too.... by doing it... without asking lol.

Sefu

So I'll be completely transparent. I know Christmas and Yule aren't really celebrated in many African countries. I know that the Sunset Savannah likely pulls some of its incluence from Kenyan culture, because of the influence on the Lion King. I ALSO know that Cloudcalling has caused people to debate if additional tribal influence can be found in their traditional garb. That said, I will own up in my ignorance that when I had the opportunity to hang out with my Kenyan colleagues, they didn't speak much on December holidays? Moreso focusing on the traditional holidays celebrated in April, May, and August. So outside of Western influence, I don't know if there are traditions that would be celebrated there. I also don't want to be that American who makes false approximations in their fiction and does a massive disrespect to the people who live there. That said, it IS something I want to learn more about, and not from a poluted Western lens.

As far as NRC goes, Sefu... doesn't really care about the school festivities? They kind of keep to themself and roll their eyes at the jolly gayness of it all.

Oisín: So I thought it would be better to answer with a character outside of Diasomnia for this one. And the answer here may surprise you - Rook Hunt. It ultimately comes down to 1) a comradery with a fellow hunter of a sorts, and 2) the fact that Rook was one of the first outside of Diasomnia and Ignihyde to figure out their true identity and he opted to keep that knowledge a secret.

René: The first two that come to mind are Jade and Jamil. They see who they both are for who they are and respect the hussle. There's also that whole unlikely friends thing between them.

Xiáng: My gut instinct is to bring up Deuce. Much like Xiáng, Deuce has his struggles that make it difficult for him to keep his head above water academically. And Deuce still tries his best every single day. He's also really loyal to people who are his and he stands up against assholes. Lots of values that he appreciates.

Vex: Malleus. Dragon meet dragon. Dragon understand dragon. There is a comradery there as a result of a shared experience that cannot be understood by the other students.

Sefu: Leona. I... Idk what to tell you. This is a Zira expy.

🍺 - Thoughts on alcohol?

Oisín: Idk if they've ever had an alcohol before... all I can say though is that they aren't a fan of being around people who are more than a little tipsy. Makes them uncomfy.

Emil: Wine is often used in religious practices, and that's largely his association with it. He doesn't mind the taste though.

René: ...is a bartender. Alcohol is largely a tool to get people to spill information- consensually of course.

Kingsley: It sure exists. It sure is a thing. And like... when he's older, he'll drink when its considered in good practice to do so- like events and whathaveyou. But otherwise, he doesn't really care for it.

Xiáng: He's not allowed to have any until his curse is broken. Thems the rules.

Sefu: They seem indifferent to it. Either that or they are being tight lipped about their opinions.

Vex: Their feelings are complicated. Alcohol is often used in social situations and can be largely harmless. But people also do dangerous things when too intoxicated. People also can be incredibly hostile when intoxicated. So... it makes for a complicated matter.

✏️ - Favorite creative endeavors?

Oisín: Their writing! That's where they put all their thoughts and feelings.

Emil: Besides cooking, definitely embroidery and darning. He really loves using textile mediums to create beautiful things. (He also loves singing and dancing but thats a hush hush secret.)

René: Dance. It's the one place where they truly feel free to be their authentic self.

Kingsley: Whittling. He likes to carve little statues out of wood he hinds on his walks.

Xiáng: Music. He loves playing his erhu. He feels connected with himself, with others, and with the spirits of nature when he plays his erhu. It's his entire heart and soul.

Sefu: No, Sefu... kick boxing and murder aren't answers. You have to come up with something else.

Vex: Roleplaying games and narrative creation (specifically oral story-telling). They love to come up with and explore little make believe scenarios with their friends.

🔨 - Handy skills?

Oisín: I feel like this is a difficult question to answer. The reason being is that you have to consider that Oisín starts their journey as a soldier and assassin, capable of surviving in the forest for a long period of time. This implies they have the ability to handle their nightmares (the fae steeds), are able to start fires and cook (even if just barely), are able to navigate the woods--- the list goes on. But then you also consider that during their time at NRC, they learn about technological creation and electrical engineering. They learn about coding. They make their own monitors and they make their own neck corset. Over the course of their long life, they learn to do a lot of things. To what extent they are "good" at them varies from situation to situation.

Emil: If you don't count cooking, then darning, mending, and weaving. He is able to patch up any sort of hole in fabric pretty darn well (pun intended) and he will make it look good while he's doing it. He also is excellent at herbalism and alchemy, which translates into gardening and plant cultivation.

René: I'm actually not sure if they have any handy skills! Most of their skills are in athletics, studying, and social situations.

Kingsley: So we've got hunting/fishing, minor amounts of blacksmithing, whittling/carving, knotting, blade sharpening... i think that covers it? I think that covers it.

Xiáng: He's really great at following instructions when he feels like it. Does that count????

Sefu: Tracking, hunting, blade sharpening... you're making me wonder if their family has a specific trade now, given what we know of the Sunset Savanna? And now you are forcing me to comsider giving them more depth.

Vex: Again, I'm not certain they have any. They unfortunately spent a good portion of their life sheltered and having people do things for them. She wants to learn though!!
