1ST STAR: SASHA CHMELEVSKI (OTTAWA 67’s):
San Jose Sharks prospect Sasha Chmelevski scored and added two assists in Ottawa’s 8-5 road win over the Sudbury Wolves on Tuesday. Chmelevski deked-out Wolves netminder Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen from in-tight 6:05 into the second period for his third goal of the playoffs.
2ND STAR: SERRON NOEL (OSHAWA GENERALS):
Florida Panthers prospect Serron Noel crashed the net for a pair of goals on Tuesday, helping the Oshawa Generals defeat the Niagara IceDogs 4-1 on home ice and earn their first win of the series. The big 6-foot-5 Noel banged in a rebound with 1:45 remaining in the second period before giving Oshawa some insurance 2:47 into the third, finishing off a play in the goalmouth.
3RD STAR: BODE WILDE (SAGINAW SPIRIT):
New York Islanders prospect Bode Wilde helped the Saginaw Spirit recover from an early 3-0 deficit as they charged back to defeat the Soo Greyhounds 7-5 on the road. Wilde scored 7:57 into the second period to pull Saginaw within a goal while also leading the team with six shots on goal in the game.
Most of the guys were there except for Mcginn, but that was expected since he’s out having back surgery. I also didn’t see our dear captain Mackenzie on the ice, but maybe I just didn’t notice him.
Notable guys at training camp:
-Michael Hutchinson (I saw him and had him sign my hat and had an “oh no, he’s cute moment”. Also seemed kinda shy around the fans since I guess he thought no one knew him down here but he lightened up once he saw that fans actually wanted to talk to him and sign stuff. Lots of people welcoming him to Florida and wishing him a good season)
- Mike Hoffman (Idk he seemed kinda weary when he approached the fans and seemed kinda stiff. He was also practicing on Trocheck’s line... lineys possibly???)
(left, Trocheck, middle Hoffman, and I’m assuming that the guy on the right might be Huberdeau but I’m not 100%)
-Troy Brouwer (when fans asked him if he had gone to South Beach yet, he said he hadn’t had a chance to check it out since he was busy trying to get his kids into school down here. Also apparently people are tweeting “welcome to Brouwer county” (instead of saying Broward) I think its hilarious)
Bobby Lu actually looked good and he looked healthy. He was in net for a while and kept switching with Hutchinson. My guess is that they’re trying to see how Hutchinson is doing in net in case one of the guys get injured and he has to step in. Or maybe they’re seeing if he replaces Reimer as our back up. I guess we’ll see.
Barky was actually one of the last guys on the ice and he signed everyone who stayed to see him.
The majority of the guys actually stayed after practice to interact with the fans and sign things. I actually got most of them to sign my hat including our favorite goalie, Bobby Lu. I also got Hutchinson, Reimer, Yandle, Bjugy, Barky, Sceviour, Brouwer, Dadanov, and Vatrano to sign my hat as well. I’m a very lucky gal.
So after the scrimmage, the prospects were having a game in the rink over. The usual guys you’d expect to be there were there:
-Owen Tippet (I was actually lowkey disappointed because his roster pic shows his hair as a really vibrant, deep red but irl it was just orange. Still cute though and he looked good on the ice)
-Henrik Borgstrom (looked good on the ice)
(Borgstrom and Tippet on the ice during warmups)
- Serron Noel
I thought I was gonna see Denisenko, but he wasn’t there or I didn’t catch a glimpse of him. I did manage to see the infamous Bajkov, who everyone is confusing for Barkov on twitter since its just a letter difference.
They separated the rookies into two teams for practice and they kept TIppet and Borgstrom on the same line. They seemed to connect on the ice and were very buddy-buddy. Line ideas anyone???
They also had Mamin, McCoshen and Weegar playing with them, which I thought was wierd since they’ve played NHL games last season. Are they going to get sent down maybe?
Overall camp was very fun and very cold. It was great to see hockey again and see the guys after this eternal summer.

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Hartford Wolf Pack's late-season swan dive continued in a 3-2 loss to the Charlotte Checkers despite a push in the game's last five minutes. The Pack has now lost seven straight and 13 of their previous 15 games. Their playoff hopes grow dimmer with each loss as time runs out on their season.
The Pack (29-28-6-2) sit in sixth place, with a .508 winning percentage. They are now behind the fourth-place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the fifth-place Hershey Bears, each with a .530 winning percentage.
Meanwhile, Charlotte becomes the first team in the Atlantic Division to punch their ticket to the Caldor Cup playoffs with the win. The Checkers (39-23-4-0) are in second place and just .02 points behind division-leading Springfield Thunderbirds.
PACK DIDN'T QUIT
The Pack showed life in a 1:13 span late in the third to make the score close, but the Checkers were in control for two-thirds of the game.
The Wolf Pack scored off an offensive zone draw.
Tim Gettinger won the puck back to Zach Giutarri. The right-handed shot and former Loomis Chaffe prep school player whistled his shot at the net. However, the puck missed the net and took a fortunate bounce off the backboard for the Pack to Nick Merkley, who was wide open on the left-wing side. Merkley deposited his 15th goal of the season into the net before goaltender Joey Daccord could get back to try and stop him at 15:56.
Merkley was acquired from the San Jose Sharks at the trade deadline and has registered seven points in ten since coming to Hartford.
Just 1:13 later, at 17:03, Pack leading scorer, Anthony Greco, found the back of the net on the Charlotte doorstep. Greco converted a rebound of a Zac Jones shot from the left side off a cross-ice diagonal pass from Nils Lundkvist. For Greco, it was his 16th goal and 52nd point.
GAME WINNER GOAL
The game-winning goal came at 1:52 of the third period. For the third straight game, the Pack surrendered a shorthanded goal. In this case, it came with six seconds remaining in a power play. Chase Priskie, the ex-Quinnipiac star, started the play with a pass to Alexander True, who did the rest. He evaded Greco's stick and scooted past Matt Robertson from the right-wing side before whistling his 16th goal of the season past Kinkaid. It gave the Checkers a commanding 3-0 lead and cemented their control of the game with their twelfth shorthanded goal.
They are tied for second in the AHL with Lavalin power play goals.
GOALIES SHINE
Daccord, an ASU grad, executed a solid game plan. He was yielding single chances and then freezing the puck for faceoffs or making a kick save that moved the puck to the corners.
In the second and third periods, Kinkaid did everything he could do to prevent Charlotte from scoring. Gustav Olsson reversed, then curled and dragged the puck to the center of the ice midway through the third and was denied. Then True and Luke Hernan, with 6:42 remaining in the third, and Cole Schwind were all stopped by the 6'5 goalie.
Midway through the second period, Daccord stopped Nils Lundkvist on the power play without any second and third opportunities for rebounds. Then at 13:09, Daccord made a stop and put the puck out of the zone. Finally, at 1:38 of the third period, Daccord stopped Greco.
Meanwhile, 200' away, Kinkaid stopped Zac Dalpe at 1:09 and then a two-on-one.
TINORDI FIGHTS TO KEEP THE PACK IN IT
Jarred Tinordi tried to spark the team with his second fight off the game with Serron Noel, but the short scuffle didn't light the flame of desperation in the Wolf Pack but left the team defensively shorthanded for the remainder of the game.
Tinordi had his first bout after a clean but hard hit on Cody McCormick that left him dazed and bloodied after hitting the ice with a thud. Tinordi earned the instigator by referees Carter Sandlak (son ex-Hartford Whaler Jim Sandlak) and Justin Kea even though True dropped the mitts first.
FIRST PERIOD
In the first period, Charlotte grabbed a 2-0 lead. Cole Schwindt got his 19th at 9:47 off a rebound of a Serron Noel shot. They extended the Checkers' lead to 2-0 at 13:54 as Henman tallied his fifth goal of the season by converting the rebound of Logan Hutsko's shot.

Florida Panthers Prospect Roundup (week of 10/10/18)
Alrighty folks, buckle up, because I’ve never done this before and I don’t really know how it’s gonna go. But I’m gonna try to do my best to give everyone a recap of how the Panthers’ top prospects are doing at the moment in the CHL, Europe, and beyond. ITT, we’ll be focusing on Serron Noel, Owen Tippett, Grigori Denisenko, and Aleksi Heponiemi.
Canadian Hockey League prospects
Let’s get started in Canadian Major junior, where Panthers prospects Serron Noel (2018, #34) and Owen Tippett (2017, #10) are currently playing.
Serron Noel
Serron Noel is off to a strong scoring start to his season with the Oshawa Generals, scoring another goal on 10/5 to make his total 7 goals on the season (in just 6 games). His 7 goals make him the joint-third top scorer in the OHL so far this season, and the top scorer in the league with 6 or fewer games played thus far.
With his 7th goal of the season tonight, Serron Noel (#FLAPanthers) now leads the #OHL in goals pic.twitter.com/kVu10ti3hT
- Generals Live @GeneralsUpdates Oct 5
Noel has strong goal totals so far this season (especially at 5v5) but with 0 primary assists and just 1 assist overall thus far, the Panthers will hope to see improved passing from their 2018 draft pick in the remainder of the season.
Noel put up a goose egg on Saturday against Owen Sound, where the marquee matchup (Noel vs NIck Suzuki on the OSA) didn’t end up factoring into the scoring.

Owen Tippett
Panthers 2017 first round selection Owen Tippett has been getting into all kinds of trouble recently with his OHL squad the Mississauga Steelheads. First there was this titillating quote he gave in an interview:
“It’s a business up there and it goes further than just what’s on the ice,” Tippett told the Sporting news;
Not done only after spitting hot fire, Tippett took to the ice and saw himself suspended for a controversial play in a game against Kingston.
#FlaPanthers Owen Tippett suspended for this slash after the fight. A little soft to be worthy of a suspension: pic.twitter.com/jBoQQs6Tz9
The Rat Trick @FanSidedTheRat Oct 5
All in all, Tippett was suspended 4 games for the hit and will miss a home and home vs the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday and Saturday (10/12 & 10/13) before returning to action Sunday (10/14) to face the Sarnia Sting.

Grigori Denisenko
Denisenko, Florida’s 2018 1st round pick, is signed in the KHL with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl until 2020. In 10 games so far with Lokomotiv, Denisenko has put up just 2 points, but both were goals, including this sick shot from a tight angle against Metallurg in a 6v5 situation.
It appears that Denisenko can score from wherever he wants.[#MMGvsLOK] pic.twitter.com/zQBwT4jkKj](https://t.co/zQBwT4jkKj
— KHL (@khl_eng) September 30, 2018
Denisenko is not exactly lighting the KHL on fire at the moment though, and has not featured in Lokomotiv’s last 3 games. (I am not quite sure why at the moment.) Surely the Panthers hope he will be able to not only re-enter the lineup but crack a higher role and give himself further opportunities to increase his point totals.
SEASON STAT-LINE
10 GP, 2 G, 0 A, +2, 14 SOG, 11:01 avg TOI/g
Aleksi Heponiemi
After transferring from the WHL Swift Current Broncos to Karpat in Finland’s Liiga, Heponiemi has continued his high scoring pace. Through 10 games, Heponiemi has notched 9 points alongside fellow Finnish NHL prospect Rasmus Kupari (LAK).
Heponiemi to Kupari on the 5-on-3 power play. Easy money. #FlaPanthers #GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/PV1jrO1Qce
- Jokke Nevalainen @JokkeNevalainen Oct 9
Heponiemi has shown more of a knack for scoring goals this year, with a 1:2 goal to assist ratio bucking the trend of his 1:3 goal to assist ratio over his WHL career. Heponiemi still needs to bulk up to have a shot of playing in the NHL, but he has all the talent and tools to do so.

SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Serron Noel on a three-year, entry-level contract.
"Serron is a highly skilled, hard-working, young player who we believe has the potential to be an excellent power forward for the Panthers for many years to come", said Tallon. "At just 18 years of age, his impressive combination of size, speed and character are qualities that have helped him excel this season in Oshawa. We are thrilled to have signed Serron and look forward to his development with the Panthers."
