bestie taem and minho are rumored to be tryna leave sm shit got realer
okay i do not entirely believe that rumour because while i think it's very possible they'd want to leave sm (taem gets overworked and minho is unappreciated i can definitely see why those two in particular would want to leave the company) i really think shinee would only do it as a group. shinee are a family in a way a lot of groups simply aren't, like i love exo down but they're more coworkers than they are family. it's also a little more complicated with shinee because they don't just have to worry about trying to retain rights to the group's music and their individual music, i think they'd also want to get the rights to jonghyun's music. so it's way more complicated for shinee than it is for cbx because if they left they'd be leaving as five.

miyaaa! who is your bts bias? 🤔
SUCH AN INTERESTING QUESTION!! see now for years I've tried to convince myself I'm not a BTS girlie but...I know too much about them, (which isn't even that much but y'know it still qualifies) I can't say I'm not a fan 😭 I definitely am, I just am nowhere near as well versed with them as I am with GOT7 (my babies my loves, could k-pop rant forever about them, unless you want nuclear war in the form of GOT7 autism, I would not recommend asking me anything abt them cus i won't stfu 😭)
BUT!!! Unironically, my bias would have to be either Jimin (OMG BTS JIMIN MOMENT) or Namjoon. I love what they bring to their music, they have just such distinct sound quality to their voices and how they affect their music! Also Jimin's dance moves, C'MON NOWWWW Also I say I'm not a BTS fan but i historically have collected BTS stuff for "the meme", and yet i refuse to throw away my disposable BTS coffee bottles with their faces on it...am I good??? Who knows honestly!!

What do you think is gonna happen with BTS after military? Group longevity, I mean. Will they last? Because I get the feeling that after the mandatory comeback and tour things will get… tricky.
***
The members say they want to last until they're all well past retirement age, so who am I to say otherwise?
It's not like it's not possible, after all. Bands like U2, Coldplay, and Radiohead are still together and touring 20+ years later with most/all of the original line-up. Within k-pop, Shinhwa is technically still active 26 years later even if their performances have long downtime intervals these days.
Think I've said this before, but again, Chapter 3 will be everything we've seen in Chapter 2, supercharged. I assume the first thing on the agenda when BTS returns is an OT7 tour plus one or two OT7 albums. Concurrently or subsequently, solo projects (features, singles, EPs) for the members will continue within two years of BTS returning so they build on the momentum set up in Chap 2. I think its fair to assume a few years dedicated to group work, interspersed with solo projects in music, acting, design, producing etc, every seven years or so. I see things being intense for ~4 years immediately after their military service, before a more sustainable rhythm is set by the company/group.
Reading between the lines in HYBE's quarterly investor calls, the company (1) is desperate for cash and BTS is their primary cash cow; (2) intends to ruthlessly destroy their competition while they still have BTS locked up in exclusive contracts for the next 7 years.
It's anybody's guess on if BTS renews their contracts with HYBE in 2030. I'd imagine HYBE will offer any concession to keep the members so we'll see. There's also been some chatter about one or two members starting sub-labels in HYBE, and while that's an interesting possibility, it's still just chatter for now.
In the meantime, the fandom will only become more crazy so buckle up if you intend to be active in fandom spaces.

I'm sorry but 🐰 is so FAKE!
"My future changed because of it. If I hadn't done this project I would probably still be in bed, eating and watching cartoons"?????
As if he and everyone at Hybe didn't know since months PRIOR how his debut was gonna go down, like that Hybe staff (and Jimin anti) that got caught on DC Gallery talking smack during Jimin's debut about JK's single, because they all knew it had already been BOUGHT thanks to 🛴 & Bongo.
Tumblr media
[Reminder that ALL Suchwita episodes are pre-recorded months PRIOR to present events]
Also the way he stated:
"I'm Korean , but I'd like to be the one and only singer who can cross back and forth between k pop and pop songs I'm gonna conquer all genres if I could " "one and only singer"... one and only singer to do WHAT when OTHERS have already done it BEFORE YOU??? (Shinhwa? Ailee??? Hello???) He'll never be the "first and only", "one and only", JUST THE PRIVILEGED ONE.
But you know what really gets on my tits? Its the way he toyed with the fandom's emotions through vlive acting out this story of the mistreated, neglected member that was too scared to ask the company for permission to come on vlive to talk to army, so he asked one of his hyungs to cover for him and "take the blame".
And then continued his little sob-story of "Oh I haven't left my apartment in over 3 weeks. All I do is eat takeout and sleep and play with my dog 🥹 please pity me." Getting so drunk that he passed out like twice (with a whole ass candle still lit) and coincidentally SOMEONE who was already inside the apartment would turn off the live (IF there was a staff with him at all times while recording, why did they let him get so drunk to the point of passing out? )
Then came the rebellious, child tantrums at his own hyungs asking him to take it easy with the drinking live (consequentially bringing hate against said members and his solo stans applauding this behavior as him "standing up for himself & doing what he wants" and how "respect has to be earned").
Then came the sasaeng scare, the "Please don't follow me to the gym where I work out every day, that scares me buuhuu 😭." And again getting drunk "to show how upset he is" by the whole situation, causing more unnecessary concern (a.k.a creating morbid anticipation and more people tuning in to the circus show).
But the live that really took the cake was when he first failed to hide the very obvious vape that was literally on top of the table in a very obvious pink color (like his hoodie) that many quickly identified, then another sob story, then FINALLY came the TEARS, acting like he was about to say goodbye to the fandom for the last time with the perfectly executed: "Please be happy, even if I'm not here." before ending the live and sending the fandom into a frenzy of "omg poor kookie, he's suffering so much" and "omg what if he harms himself???"
Everyone was SHITTING themselves on the TL, expecting the worst to happen.... only for Hybe to share a post from CK with a clip ready to announce that JK had been named Global Bran Ambassador to CK, with this huge promo, a whole ass video, photos, posters, an interview, the whole she-bang.
And suddenly... he was fine? Did another live like NOTHING happened? And the ones that followed??? Suddenly he was this refined model for CK that actually gave a shit about his image? Ya'll cannot convince me that this man was not gaslighting the FUCK outta the fandom through this whole shit-show while 🛴& Bongo finished up securing his achievement$ & po$ition on the chart$ before officially announcing his debut (despite having announced a month prior that another member would debut instead).
Even Jimin called him out on his BS during that live in the car after one of the music shows where outta the blue he interrupted the live saying he was gonna go watch Jimin perform live, as if he didn't know that Jimin's promotions had ended that very day.
Like atp I just feel pity for his stans 'cause they're SO NAIVE that they believe everything he says to the point of creating this false narrative that JK was the one who actually got sabotaged on his debut and received the shortest debut/promo time compared to Jimin. When the cold hard truth is that everything he got was thanks to all the MONEY 🛴 & Hybe invested on him.

Giving 1st gen groups and artists their own signature emojis
So we know that if you are on Twitter and have a little 7 in your username you are a BTS fan, if you have a diamond you are a Carat (SVT fan), if you have a black and pink heart then you're a fan of Blackpink etc.
Now, I have an urge to do this for 1st gen groups and artists because why not?
So :
S.E.S. : 🔮 (purple magic ball)
Reason : fandom colour being pearl purple + their mystical fairy concept suits the magic ball. Also they'd have a "3" in their usernames because I can't see any Friend being anything but OT3, another alternative one is 🌊(wave) 👰(bride) 🐿 (chipmunk) - the wave is for Bada - Sea -, the bride for Eugene because she is everyone's dream bride lol and chipmunk is Shoo because she just looks like one.
Fin.K.L. : 🎈 (red balloon)
Reason : Fandom colour is red and balloons were the lightsticks of the 90s era! Also would come in handy during the great balloon war of 2004. Pre debut fans would use 🏹 (Bow and arrow) because they thought that a girl group from Sechskies' company named "Fin Killing Liberty" would have a strong, warrior concept... Another alternative is ⚪⚫🔴🔵 (white ball, Black ball, red ball, blue ball) which stands for the members individual colours, White : Yuri, Black : Joohyun, Red : Hyori, Blue : Jin.
Baby V.O.X. : 😇 or 👼 (girl angel)
Reason : Fandom name is Baby Angels and their name is Baby VOX Lol.
Diva : 💋 (red lipstick kiss)
Reason : because of their "cool and hot noona" image, their emoji needs to reflect that.
H.O.T. : 🤘👌🏼👇 (finger pose cool, finger pose "ok", finger pose showing down)
Reason : the hands make the letters H O T. Cool, right?
But wait! There's drama. A popular acc with more than 700k followers starts that Baby V.O.X. are plagiarizing H.O.T. because H.O.T.'s fandom name is White Angels, and now Baby V.O.X. is using 😇 (Angel)
There would be a lot of Twitter drama, and because Baby V.O.X. have the junior fandom, their fans would start using 💗 (pink heart) instead as a reference to their balloon colour.
(It was actually my original idea for them to take an angel, but I decided that the finger poses are waaaay cooler for a boy group than an angel. You're a boy group that does hip hop! At least be cool!)
Sechskies : 💛 (yellow heart) or 💛💎 (yellow heart + crystal). I can't decide. PLUS a little 6.
Reason : Fandom/balloon colour yellow. The crystal also refers to the fandom name Yellowkies, it's for the "-kies" that DSP thought meant "crystals" in German - but no one told them it means "pebbles". Ouch.
But they're crystals in Yellowkies' hearts!!1!!
Shinhwa : 🍊 (Orange the fruit)
Reason : their fandom colour is orange. Plus Shinhwa Changjos are the Ahgases of 90s Kpop so expect them to have funny stuff lmaoo
g.o.d.: 🟦 (blue square)
Reason : Fandom colour sky blue
NRG : ⚡(lightning bolt)
Reason : N R G = En-er-gy. Another option could be 🤓👋. Their fandom name is Cheonjae Ilwoo and Cheonjae means "genius". The hand shake is from their "I Can Do It" dance actually I stole it from u/Margo160's flair lmaoo sorry
1TYM : ☝️👇❓Ⓜ️ (finger showing index finger, finger showing down, question mark, blue M)
Aaand another rookie group copying H.O.T.! (Lol I'm just setting them up for drama lol). How dare the fans copy the same finger emojis? The fans then just change it to ☝️... and since then, in this AU, the YG - SM rivalry starts.
Soloists :
Kim Hyunjung : 🔃 (arrow turning around)
Reason : reference to "Bruise" and the point dance of turning your arms around singing "둘려놔~" ("throw/put me back~"), which pretty much went viral before going viral was a thing. Alternatively used are 👠 (high heels) because she was known for her pretty long legs or 💃(dancing girl) because she pretty much IS the emoji.
Uhm Junghwa : 👑 (crown)
Reason : because she's the undisputed solo queen nope nope no arguments~
But I could actually see 🎉 because of "Festival" or 🥀 (Rose) for "Rose of Betrayal".
Lee Junghyun : 🏮(festival paper balloon with Chinese character on it) or 🀄 (card with Chinese character on it).
Reason : she would have a lot of Chinese fans and she would be known for her traditional concept at debut.
Yangpa : I can't find the emoji on my Samsung keyboard, but an onion. Why? Because that's her name, onion. Literally.
BoA : 📡 (satellite bowl)
Reason : because she's an alien. Why? Because this girl is not even out of middle school yet and already such a pro at dancing. She ain't real~ /j 🤣
@babyvoxi can we make this a thing?? hahaha

K-pop Discography Deep Dives: Rolling Quartz 🎸
Tumblr media
Rolling Quartz is the fourth band I’ve covered here, and the first girl band, which is very exciting! They debuted in 2020, with five members: bassist Arem, guitarists Iree and Hyunjung, vocalist Jayoung, and drummer Yeongeun. They aren’t exactly K-pop, but instead a blend of that and k-rock. Here are my credentials: I’ve been a fan of Rolling Quartz for a while now, after being recommended their excellent cover of Dreamcatcher’s Good Night, and though I know they’re not that popular (and so this review is more for me than other people), I thought it’d be fun to do to break up the SHINHWA epic.
Blaze was their debut, and what a debut it is! Coming right out the gate with a blistering, half-minute-long guitar riff, inspirational lyrics, and Jayoung’s signature husky contralto. From this first song, they immediately stand out from the crowd: besides playing instruments, having a grungier style and music video, and dabbling more in rock, their music also feels more personal, probably due to the fact that they weren’t assembled by a company but instead formed on their own and have the power to write their own songs.
Delight starts out quieter than Blaze, though it doesn’t stay that way for long. It keeps the inspirational lyrics, with a slower, more minimalistic opening that feels like it’s holding its breath until the song explodes in rock bliss. It’s a masterclass in pulling back and rushing forward, and keeps you guessing—in a good way. This was never one of my favorites as a casual listener but I’m pleased to say this changed my mind.
Tumblr media
Holler starts with the somewhat haunting call of “Holler, holler, holler”, befitting of the MV’s vampiric inspirations (especially Jayoung’s awesome dress), and the chant repeats again in the post-choruses as a break from the established build ups. It’s definitely reminding me of a Taemin song, with its seductive creepiness, albeit based on far more of a rocky vibe than is usual for him. Overall, I like this one more this time too!
From the EP, Fighting, I liked the crisp guitar riffs of Higher and of course their excellent cover of Dreamcatcher’s Good Night...but my favorite would have to be Azalea. Adapted from an old poem protesting the Japanese occupation of Korea, it’s the true definition of an anthemic, passionate, head-banger, and I hope one day (Hera willing) I’ll get to experience its incredibleness in concert.
One is a collaboration, and goes more of a teen-movie-soundtrack-pop-punk route; as one comment I saw said, “it sounds like it could be from a Monster High movie.” Which is absolutely not criticism, by the way; though I don’t think that One is as good as tracks like Blaze, Delight, or Azalea, it’s a fun break from the darkness and makes me want to relive my younger teenage years (though maybe not all of them, let’s be honest here).
Tumblr media
Nazababara is their return after a while, and goes a much sunnier, brighter route, making it feel less like a political anthem and more like one for a night out for friends. I love the segments with less instrumentation in the pre-chorus so that the vocals have time to breathe, and of course the short “you got me, got me” bridge was a highlight too. It’s a short song, but a memorable one.
Sing Your Heart Out is a b-side, but it was given a music video so I’m treating it like a single. It’s harsher in sound and darker in tone than Nazababara, and more true to their usual sound. The guitar riffs are as sharp as ever, and have a great sense of build in those pre-choruses, before the chorus appears to smash everything out of the park. It definitely had me banging my head, especially during that great guitar breakdown and outro.
I’m A Loner isn’t a usual Rolling Quartz song in many ways; it’s both a collaboration with Nam Do-hyun, and an OST. But, it retains their staples of driving beats and Jayoung’s strong voice with those sharp guitars that propel it forward. I hadn’t actually heard this song before this deep dive, but I ended up liking it. I wish it had more of a cathartic end to its great build-up, but otherwise it’s pretty good.
Tumblr media
Fearless takes a more EDM-based approach to its rock, for another banger, this time choosing something I normally dislike: an “I’m-so-cooler-than-you” song…and yet, they pull it off! That guitar solo was perfection and I couldn’t resist the urge to dance along with them as they played their instruments in the rain (which I hope they didn’t have to film more than once).
Reminiscence is their most recent single, and though it starts with a sharp snare drum, its first verses are actually a quite straightforward ballad, made unique by the ever-present power in Jayoung’s voice. But of course, since this is Rolling Quartz, it soon becomes a power ballad worthy of single status, and manages to be incredibly captivating despite its music video only being them playing their instruments in their studio, and it actually became one of my favorites of theirs. Also, I had no idea that Jayoung plays piano, so that was a fun surprise.
Tumblr media
I’m glad I did this! I knew I would have a great time, but it was still a fun ride. I forgot how few songs Rolling Quartz actually has, but when every one of them is so high in quality, I can’t really complain. I learned a lot more about them as people too, watching some interviews and behind the scenes content and having some good laughs along the way.
My Top 5 songs are Blaze, Azalea, Nazababara, Reminiscence, and Fearless, with Sing Your Heart Out as an honorable mention. Rolling Quartz gets a 9 out of 10 from me, the same as The Rose did, which isn’t surprising at all. I don’t think that there’s a single song of theirs I don’t like, and very few that I don’t love. They’re remarkably consistent and incredibly talented, and I can’t wait to see what they do next!
Tumblr media
Next time, we’ll finally be finishing the SHINHWA deep dive, so stay tuned. Tschüss!

Am not update about shinhwa anymore, but I've read the news about Dongwan, can you tell me, is the women dw's real life gf or it's just on screen couple?
And what do you know about leanbranding, i thought minwoo made another self agency but seems like he joined an already existed agency.
The way articles talk about it it sounds more like We Got Married type of variety love line. Seo Yoon Ah is an actress. There were couples on We Got Married who ended up dating (for example Junjin). Make of it what you will :) I don't watch, so no real opinion. I just know Dongwan repeatedly said he really wants to get married.
LeanBranding is a company Minwoo joined. I remember something about a girl group he will be producing there too. https://kpoplife.com/shinwa-minwoo-lean-branding-kpop-group/

Imagine being Goo Inhyuk's significant other.
Imagine being the older sibling of Yoo Jiyoung, the most powerful awakened one of South Korea as well as the youngest to ever become one, and Jisuk, one of the top four prodigy of the next generation among the country. As well the lover of Goo Inhyuk, one of the top twenty awakened of the country. If there is one thing notable about you other than the fact that you're a normal human being, unlike your siblings and lover, you are not an awakened one. Anyways, you are currently running a few corporations under Shinhwa as well as planning to expand your influence in the political world.
Imagine being on your office at home like usual, countless piles of documents right in front of you as you lean back on your chair, cat purring on your lap as you focused on the chart on your tablet you are currently holding. Charts and detailed reports flashed across the screen, causing your brows to frown. "Not a bad project proposal, but this won't do."
Imagine being so focused on the document you did not even notice your lover entered your office, tray of snack, both yours, and for the cat in your lap in his hands. It was one of the rare days where he got to have a day off under your young sister Jiyoung. Normally, even though he liked it and is tempted, he wouldn't have accepted. He had nothing to do at home after all, plus he could just help his sister in law with the matters that needed to be done in the office. But upon hearing that you did not come home in the Yoo residence, but in fact at his home, he had no choice but to accept it.
Imagine the way he crept behind you, silently placing the tray on his hand on the table, raising a brow when you didn't even look up from your device, but upon noticing hkw focused you are, he gently place down a hand on your shoulder causing you to flinch, normally an ordinary person would have probably jumped off but yoh manage to remain calm and slowly raise your head. And upon looking up, there you see your lover, yet to remove his hand on your shoulder looking down at you with a gentle smile on his face.
"You didn't tell me you're coming home today." "I know you're busy, you're rarely home after all. Plus, there was no one in the Yoo residence, the staffs were on vacation and Jisuk was at his friend?" You replied with a small smile. "Still you should have given me a heads up, If it wasn't for the chairwoman I wouldn't have known that you're here." "I came to stay in here just for the night, I got matters to deal with the company by tomorrow and I.. Just want to rest for the day." "So today's your day off? Thats one more reason for you to inform me then" He chuckle, leaning down to steal a kiss from you before picking up the cat on your lap.
"I know better than to get in your way honey, you're more busy than I am after all." You spoke, finally letting go of the tablet on your hands as you place it on the table. "Busy? That's not true, you're far more busy than us. I mean even now in your day off you're doing nothing but work." He tease causin you to pout as you rech out for the snack on the table, watching him as play with your cat. "Come on, I was really planning to rest, but then I started feeling restless so I got no choice but to work on something." "One more reason for you to give me a heads up, don't you think?" ".... Alright, I was wrong."
Imagine it's been a long time since the two of you have actually been on each other's presence. After all, it's not like the two of you lived together. Most of the time you would spend most of your time in the company and barely have time for anything else after you starts to take interest in politics. Same goes with Inhyuk having his own responsibilities of assisting your young sister as well as the responsibilities of as one to the top twenty awakened one in your country. Thats why it was really a big deal for both of you to tell each other about your day offs and break. Because there was no other way of seeing each other, other than those days which you happened to have now.
Imagine standing up from your seat as you approach your lover a couple of steps away from you with your lovely cat in hand. "Sorry, Jisuk told me about the recent incident and thought you would be busy, so I didn't contact you." You spoke as you stood in front of him, then you kiss him on the cheeks. "Forgive me?"
Imagine the way his lips tug up into a grin, then he look down at the cat on his arms. "What do you think, cutie? Should we forgive 'em?" He spoke to the cat on his arms before she jump off and went towards you, brushing her body on your leg causing you to look back at your lover with a smirk on your face. "Our baby says to forgive me." "Yeah, she's been missing you for awhile now." "Hmm. I could tell." "Well, me too."
Imagine the way you stare at him after that, the way you just stare at each other, letting time pass by. "I said me too." "Yeah I know, it wouldn't be weird if you don't miss our ba-" "I miss you too, I'm talking about you." "Oh." You stopped, then you look away, cheeks slowly heating up.
Imagine if there was one thing Goo Inhyuk was crazy about other than cats. That would be you. You who he value the most. It may not be obvious to other, after all, not so many knew about your relationship, but that wasn't important at all. You may rarely see each other right now as well as barely have time for one another. But what's important is that by the end of the day, the love that you both have for each other is still there, never-ending and only for each other.
"Since both of us got nothing to do how about we go out?" "Sure, where do you want to go?" "There was a cat cafe I've been hearing for awhile now. How about we go there?" "Oh I would love to." "Haha I knew you would." "So how was my siblings nowadays?" "Hmm? They're doing fine nowadays.."

[DIGGING IN] THE ONE AND ONLY SHINee that expanded possibilities in KPOP
SHINee, a five-member group consisting of ONEW, Jonghyun, Key, Minho and Taemin, has been a group that has caught the public's attention since its debut.
As can be seen from the debut song titled 'Replay', they actively took the 'young and cute' image and was praised for their stable skills that supported the team.
Working with fashion designer Ha Sang-baek at the time, they made fresh attempts in visual areas such as fashion, a trend that has become clearer over time.
SHINee is a team that deeply imprinted their identity in the K-pop scene while performing high-quality music regardless of genre.
CBS No Cut News listened to four music critics today (25th) about SHINee's "team" and "music".
TO DESCRIBE SHINee IN ONE WORD
Park Hee-ah, a pop culture journalist, said:
' Contemporary Band' keeps their identity intact. At first, it was a distinct modifier from other teams, but now it has proved what SHINee's contemporary is, and there is no group to replace. There are few groups who are recognized for their vocals, performance in the K-pop scene and are recognized as unique characters for each member, and SHINee is the team that did it."
Jeong Min-jae, a music critic, said:
"SHINee is a One and Only team. Considering that K-pop has been around for about 30 years, starting with Seo Tai-ji, there has never been a group like SHINee before and it is unlikely to be there after that. Since debut until now, they're still unique in terms of music and concept," he said.
Music critic Randy Seo said
"If you describe SHINee in a word, it can be 'quality'.
I think SHINee's presence played a huge role in achieving the current qualitative growth of K-pop. Looking at the completeness pursued and implemented by SHINee, I think other companies or teams may have been stimulated or opened their eyes, saying, "I can do that." I think it has become a starting point for actively attracting various aspects of culture that young people with an eye like, rather than using designer Ha Sang-baek when he debuted or using only the elements that were always distributed in K-pop," he said.
Music critic Cha Woo-jin said
"SHINee is also an important team in Korean music, and I think tgey marked the before and after in their agency, SM Entertainment. Before SHINee, SM's music seemed to have traces of the 90s, such as H.O.T. and Shinhwa.
However, SHINee's base was R&B, and it strongly gave the feeling of 'something has changed' in terms of look and performance, he said.
A GROWING TEAM AND A STILL TEAM AT THE SAME TIME
SHINee was also a team that showed how far K-pop idols can reach musically.
Critic Cha Woo-jin said
"If the role of idols tends to be somewhat undervalued due to the distinction between 'creation' and 'performance', SHINee also showed that performing is very 'creative', persuading them to be 'artists' even if they don't compose."
It is also important to keep the "shinyness." Critic Jung Min-jae said, "This team is doing very well with the 'unique' that has been there since the beginning, and it has maturity and depth, and in some ways, sensuality, but it is still special that this team feels 'boyish'.
In that respect, I think it is important to maintain SHINee's color well," he said. "It seems to be an important point that the team has been sophisticated since it first came out, and has continued to develop its capabilities as a singer without losing a bit of its own territory. Even if there was no dramatic evolution, they became very deep and three-dimensional in their colors"
Journalist Park Hee-ah replied, "What I think SHINee has grown the most is that each person has established their own territory so that certain members are not consumed and wasted."
He also said, "SHINee has shown a break from conventional masculinity, and I think it has a lot of influence on the K-pop scene now.
"The music has always been fresh. At that time, SM was experimenting with electronic music little by little with melodic R&B, and SHINee seems to have played a central role in the transition period.
There were not one or two elements that were out of the framework of K-pop, but we can't leave out the choreos, but SHINee's excellence was that they performed unfamiliar choreographies very well, it felt fresh and fascinating rather than unfamiliar. In particular, I remember being shocked by the youngest Taemin's dance," he looked back.
It seems like a natural flow to give the impression that SHINee members are the leader of "genderless" when they do solo activities, he added.

It’s a Shinhwa Liberation Day that we’ve waited for quite a long time. I hope our hard work and actions will become even the smallest amount of firepower and present to everyone’s daily life. Although this is something that the Shinhwa members and Shinhwa Changjos have wanted for the most, the  Shinhwa Company employees have worked hard, feeling upset like it is their own matter, and have suffered physically and mentally. A day that is brought about through a long period of waiting and hard work!
Shinhwa, Shinhwa Changjo, Shinhwa Company, applause to all! Clap clap clap! Everyone is awesome and I’m so proud of you all~
Good night everyone!

Years ago, the kbs website used to have character profiles for the bof kdrama characters (the links don't work anymore, but you can still read them through wayback machine). These profiles mostly had stuff we already know about them, maybe with some extra details from the manga that didn't get mentioned in the drama but are easy to guess.
But Woobin's profile is the surprising thing here. It's very detailed considering he has barely any lines in the episodes. And it gives us a lot of insight about his characterization (or what it could have been if he had more screen time):
I'm gonna start by saying that I used google translator bc my korean skills are far from fluent. lol So blame any mistakes on google.
So let's go to the text. Parts of the profile are in italics and the my comments are normal text.
The first part of his description are just stuff that are mentioned or implied in the k-drama (In one line! But it is!):
"He is the hidden leader of F4 and the successor to Ilsim Construction, an emerging blue-chip company in the real estate industry. It is a long-established boss family that has led the traditional violent organization Ilsimpa for generations. In Woo Bin's father's generation, elite management was advocated. By legally diversifying its business, it proudly joined the ranks of emerging conglomerates. However, excellent personal network management that can be mobilized in case of emergency."
Hidden leader doesn't mean leader. The leader is still Junpyo, it's just that Woobin is the only sane man in the group lol.
But at least this part gives us a name for his mafia. I like how his family didn't bother to give the company a different name from it
"Its ability and ability to quickly and powerfully mobilize cash are its secret weapons that even Shinhwa Group cannot ignore."
This is interesting because it implies Junpyo's family keeps Woobin close because of this, which answers the question of why Junpyo's mother lets him be friends with the heir of a criminal organization. And I have no doubt she is interested in the criminal connections too. Let's be honest, that woman is probably involved in a lot of corruption.
"He lives with his mother, who gave birth to him when she was 20, and his twin sisters who were born late."
Whoa, that's a lot of information here. So his little sisters from the manga are canon in this adaptation.
Tumblr media
which gives a new meaning to Junpyo's line in episode 16:
Tumblr media
He wasn't talking about Woobin's girlfriends, he was talking about Woobin's sisters and maybe mother too.
"This may be the reason why he only meets older people and feels attracted only to older people. Rather than taking care of something, he often find comfort in the love he receives and can rely on. Sometimes, he seduces married women who have husbands without hesitation, but while they are dating, he is a pure romantic who only devotes his sincerity to the other person, showing off his undiminished popularity."
This is manga stuff too and none of this was mentioned in the kdrama. I imagine they thought it would be too controversial to include him having affairs with married women which is fair enough, but I wish they had done something to at least imply it.
"He has a soft charisma that leads his opponents regardless of his young age. His sense of humor has become more savory thanks to the bad hip hop English he learned while studying abroad for a short time as a getaway."
HE STUDIED ABROAD????????? WHY WASN'T THIS MENTIONED IN ANY EPISODE??????? THIS MAKES HIS ENGLISH ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE
And "as a getaway" implies he did that to escape from his life. It goes hand in hand with his manga characterization of the stressed friend.
"He has an innate sense of economics and a spicy fist, which is revealed in various odds and figures in gambling, investment, and securities."
i dunno what a spicy fist is but most of this is just obvious stuff. It's funny to imagine him gambling, though.
"He hates his father who passed on the complex and responsibility of his origins. In the end, they are the most similar."
This is the only thing shown in the kdrama. It's during that scene when he and Yijung are talking in ep 18, when Woobin was threatening to jump off the bridge.
But that's also one of the most interesting thing about this profile.
The mafia thing is not in the manga. There is not a single scene where this is implied and we don't even know what Akira's family does besides "they own a company". I think the first version to include the mafia thing was the Jdrama? Correct me if I'm wrong.
So it's interesting to see that the kdrama actually had plans to do something with it besides "he is a mafia heir look how dangerous and cool he is". And they mixed this with Akira's low self steem from the manga to make him hate himself for his mafia heritage!!! And if we take his F4 after story MV into account, he also seems to have the same not-mafia-related low self esteem from his manga counterpart. This makes it a very interesting characterization.
And then they used it in only one scene.

(sorry Akira)

"Wanna have rizz"???? "That's us, the glitterati"?????? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
So this is the new boy band from SM Entertainment named "RIIZE" and the translated lyrics are... Definitely A Choice.
They are actually faithful when it comes to preserving the original meaning of the source text (=the original Korean lyrics), but the plain tone of the Korean lyrics has been drastically changed due to all the slangs and the conversational English the translation used!
Tumblr media
The pre-chorus literally translated would be:
Big flows, big flows
(We're) taking big steps
They soft, they soft
I want to be cool
For sure, for sure
We were one
East to the south
To the nort to the west side
We RIIZE
But the caption of the music video has it translated like this:
Tumblr media
The meaning of the source text have been pretty well preserved. There ARE changes but they are acceptable because the source text itself is pretty fragmented and allows room for interpretation. Korean as a language is less rigid in terms of grammatical structure, which gives more freedom. Also, these lyrics to a song. It is meant to be fragmented and purposefully written in a way that invites different interpretations. (For example, the song switches between Korean and English all throughout. This could be a way to help the boy band engage with a bigger audience that does not speak Korean, and simultaneously, it helps the song sound "more cool" or "fun" to Korean listeners because it's using English AND Korean.) (Also I don't exactly remember but back when f(x) was still new, someone important from SM Entertainment was interviewed on a magazine and mentioned that the company very carefully considers the acoustic aspects of the lyrics, i.e. how words sound when they are sung. They also mentioned that SM Entertainment goes for softer sounding & easier-to-pronounce words to entice listeners who may not be familiar with Korean. To them, the lyrics were a part of the package - the song, the performance, the visuals, and the sounds. Or at least it was back then. I'd expect them to have developed more ways to entice more listeners by now but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ we're talking about SM Entertainment here. Anything could've happened in the last ten years or so.)
This translation actually reminds me of another song from SM Entertainment: Red Velvet's "Feel My Rhythm"
youtube
If this is your first time watching a K-pop music video, you're in for a treat ;)
So the part I wanted to talk about is this:
Tumblr media
The literal translation would be:
Turn the ball upside down (Upside down)
Create a little fuss again
This is gonna be a crazy night (To-na-na-na-na-na-night)
From the appearance to the greeting, they will all be shocking
Why don't we play a bit? Honestly? Bae, bae
I'll start from now on
I'll start, feel my vibe and sway
Blow the flower powder
Explode the firecrackers more loudly
Don't lock us up in "Pride and Prejudice"
(We're) Free right now
And the translated lyrics on the official music video says:
Tumblr media
See how the original meanings are all there, but they've been edited to make more sense & sound more natural?
The translated lyrics is not identical to the literal translation, but it gets the spirit of the song right and it's easier to understand. This is what good localization is.
My only issue with this translation is the second line - since the subject of the sentence is "we", the "cute chaotic delight" should have been plural as well.
Also love how the "Pride and Prejudice" reference did not get lost, but I would have loved it even more if the title was in double quotes.
Okay it's 1:57 AM (KST) and i'm getting sleepy.
Kpop has come a LONG way from Shinhwa confidently belting out "You're the only one I love so mentally" XD and i'm living for it!
