Summary:
Migraines are the worst. They hurt and they stop you from doing absolutely everything. Spencer was silently pleading for relief from his own body, and you plan to fulfil those needs.
WARNINGS: details of migraines, vomit mentions, mentions of spencer’s addiction, mentions of relapse
pairing: spencer reid x gn!reader
genre: ANGST, hurt/comfort
wc: 2.7k
masterlist!!
a/n: can’t have hurt/comfort without the hurt. from a personal perspective, migraines suck bro. they suck so bad.
i’m also mildly disappointed that they didn’t expand the migraine thing after they dropped the original tumour reason, like they could’ve done so much with it-
thanks for the request! <33

Spencer felt like his skull was being hammered from the inside out. Like his brain was silently vying to escape it’s confines and break out of the bone. He felt like every nerve of his body was working against him to make sure he had the most miserable day humanly possible.
He felt like if he moved an inch from his position that the coffee and croissant that he had for breakfast this morning in an attempt to make himself feel better was going to force it’s way up out of his stomach and paint his desk in a sea of vomit.
The tinnitus ringing in his ears didn’t help, nor did the agitatingly bright while florescent lights of the office that he’d never seemed to take much notice of before.
His shoulders ached as he rested his head in his hands, his thumbs negligibly working against his temples to attempt to relieve some of the aching pressure that sent waves through his head and made him want to curl up into ball under his bed covers and never wake up.
“Spence? Are you okay?” Your voice is deliberately quiet as you approach his desk on your return from the kitchenette, steaming mug of coffee cupped in your hands and concern written all over your face.
You can almost hear the sigh of relief as he realises it’s just you and not Hotch asking him for the fourth time today for the file he’d been trying to finish for the last almost three hours.
He doesn’t look up at you yet, merely replying a weak “hi…yeah…just a headache”
You can see him try to suppress a grimace as his own voice overloads his eardrums and sends another wave of pain through his head.
You knew what a headache looked like. And what he was experiencing looked nothing like ‘just a headache’.
“A headache? You look like you’re in a lot of pain, have you-” You begin to question his pain relief, but catch yourself before asking about painkillers. As much as they definitely shouldn’t be, opioids are the most common form of pain relief prescribed for migranes, and you knew that if he had gone to the doctors for the pain, he would’ve turned them down.
At least you hope so anyway.
“Have you… had it for long?”
There’s a pause, before an almost imperceptible nod comes from him. “Three hours… three hours and eighteen minutes…. I thought it was gonna pass but… it’s getting worse….” he swallows before forcing out the next part “…I feel sick….”
You give him a small nod and a pursed expression, becoming increasingly concerned as he continues his explanation, and you can just barely catch how pale his face has gone underneath his hands.
“You should go home Spence…”
He looks up from his desk at that suggestion. As he’s trying to answer he gets cut off by a blinding pain that explodes behind his eyes. He gasps and clutches his head, dropping back into his chair before closing his eyes. “Agh….”
“Spencer…” You can’t help but wince slightly at Spencer’s clear display of pain. “Let me drive you home, you’re not fit to work right now,”
He wants to argue but his mouth is dry. The pain is just too much for him to focus on anything else, including having an opinion, so instead he simply nods.
“Give me two seconds okay? I’m going to go and tell Hotch and then we can go,”
That seems to be a satisfactory answer for now, because he just nods again. He’s not quite ready for the onslaught of light and sounds that will be the outside world just yet. He simply leans his head back and closes his eyes, trying to relax and focus on his breathing.
It takes you a little under two minutes to return, and the first thing you do is take both of your messenger bags onto your shoulder and dispose of your coffee mug on your desk.
You hold out a hand tentatively to him to help him up from his chair. “Here, let’s get you home,”
He takes your hand, slowly getting on his feet as his change in positioning sends another wave of pain shooting through the front of his head. He’s leaning on you for balance as you lead him out of the BAU office. His vision is still blurry, but at least having someone to lean on stops him from having to risk tripping over.
You have to help him into your car once your reach the parking lot, reclining the passenger’s seat as far back as it’ll go so that he’s not forced to sit upright for the whole ten minute drive.
You make an effort to keep the vehicle smooth as you pull out of the office, checking periodically over at your side to make sure that Spencer is alright. Or as alright as he can be anyway.
Once you reach Spencer’s apartment complex, you shut off the car and collect both of your belongings, getting out yourself and then walking around to assist Spencer in getting up.
It’s clear from his expression that he wouldn’t’ve managed the task on his own. He leans on you in a combination of gratitude, comfort and convenience, and he continues to use you as a crutch through the front entrance to the elevator and all the way up to his apartment door, where he struggles to insert his key in the lock through his shaking hands.
“You got it?”
He gives a weak “mhm” as he fumbles with the keys in the lock for a few seconds more, but eventually manages to unlock the door and step inside with you.
“Take a seat Spence,” You lead him carefully over to his couch and sit him down before walking across the room to pull his curtains shut and dump your bags on his reading chair.
As you pull the curtains shut and turn around again, you notice the room being a little messier than usual. Books and papers have been scattered over the room, and there were several mugs and glasses dotted around.
Clearly this wasn’t his first migrane.
Spencer is increasingly grateful the room isn’t too bright as the shade covers the room, allowing him to relax into the cushions of the sofa as you kneel to help him remove his shoes before removing your own.
He doesn’t resist your assistance. The pain still hasn’t subsided enough for him to be in the mood to resist anything. He keeps his eyes closed the whole time you unlace his shoes, just grateful for any relief he can get.
“l’m going to get you some water okay?” Spencer nods at this suggestion. At this point he’s too tired and nauseous to try and fight you, so as you leave the room, he lays his head over the back of the couch and just waits for you to come back with the water.
You return with both a glass of water and a small holding a few ice cubes, handing Spencer the glass and leaving the towel on the coffee table to chill under the presence of the ice. “Drink,”
He takes the glass from you, before slowly leaning forward and sipping the water. Your presence seems to bring him a lot of comfort, much more than he probably realises.
He continues drinking until the glass is empty, seemingly more dehydrated than he realised.
You take a seat next to Spencer has he finishes the glass, and you take it from him gently and place it down on his coffee table.
He takes a deep breath in, and out, leaning back into the couch once more.
He’s trying so hard to focus on something other than his pain, but it’s difficult. So instead he focuses on one of the only other things he can feel, which is the warmth you radiate as you sit next to him. “Here, lie down Spence,”
You put a hand on his shoulder to help try and ease him down slowly so he doesn’t put himself in any more pain. “But there’s no space..”
“You can put your head in my lap it’s okay,” You lean over to grab the now cold towel, leaving the ice in the empty glass before patting your thighs as an indication for him to lie down. “Let me see if I can relive some of that lingering tension,”
If he were of his right mind right now he would’ve been somewhat embarrassed in such a scenario, but right now he’s just too tired and in pain to do anything else but submit to the situation.
He lays his head into your lap slowly, his face relaxing as he looks up at you with grateful eyes.
You chuckle softly as he blinks up at you, leaning down over him slightly to brush some hair off of his forehead. “Close your eyes Spence,”
You can see a slight pinkness in his cheeks as he closes his eyes. His expression is the perfect combination of relaxed and sleepy, although you can still see the traces of the pain he’s feeling through the knit in his eyebrows and the tension in his shoulders.
Just hearing the sound of your voice fills his head with warmth and relaxation; Even if his head is still pounding he feels a lot better just being able to listen to you.
As his eyelids flutter closed, you place the damp cold towel over them, raking your fingers gently through his hair to ensure that nothing gets caught underneath the fabric ans slowly detangling it in the process.
For a moment your touch sends him into heaven, and he can actually feel the tension and pain receding from his body.
As he relaxes, his body slowly begins to respond to the touch with warm and fuzzy feelings. He wants to savour every second of this, to commit the sensation to memory, to never forget the feeling of your warm and gentle touch.
“How long have you been having migraines for Spencer?” You make an effort to keep your tone as soft as possible, moving your attention from running your hands through his hair to kneading your fingers against his temples.
“they’re a fairly recent thing… been having them on and off for a few weeks now….” As your hands work on his temples the pain once again starts to recede significantly. It’s still there, it probably will be for a long time, but it’s no longer all pervading. “…they can be a little debilitating some days….”
“Have you…” you trail off your question, unsure if your right to ask him it. “Never mind-“
He pulls the fabric of the towel from his eyes and blinks them up at you. The dark circles under his eyes are still clearly evident, but it’s not really surprising considering all that’s been happening to him. “…you were gonna ask if i’ve been using again weren’t you?”
“…i’m just worried about you…”
You continue to gently massage at his temples as he sees right through your apprehension.
He can’t help but sigh softly as you indirectly admit to him being right in his assumption of your question. Your concern is appreciated, albeit unnecessary. “…I’m not using anymore… I quit… I’m serious…”
He plasters a small smile on his face as a form of reassurance, though it’s pretty weak considering the fatigue his headache was providing him. “Just having a bad bout of migraines this week… that’s all….”
“Can I just- see your arms? Please?” Your fingers halt their movements as you ask the question, fully focused on receiving an answer. “I just want to make sure…”
His body tenses up a little bit as the request is made, but he complies nonetheless. He slowly raises his arms and hikes up his shirt sleeves, exposing the flesh of his forearms to your view.
There’s no marks on them, no dark scars and no signs of track marks.
He’s clean, and you can tell from his body language alone that he’s telling the truth.
You can feel your shoulders physically relax as your eyes examine his skin, and your expression softens as you look down at him. “thank you…”
“I told you, I’m serious about staying clean….” He lowers his arms, closing his eyes again. He’s back where he was a few minutes ago, a man almost fully at peace despite the fact that he’s still in pain.
“I know Spence..” You scratch gently at his scalp, feeling a little guilty about unofficially accusing him of a potential relapse. But you had to know. You had to know that he was alright.
“I just care about you… I want you to be okay..”
As your fingers brush the base of his scalp he shivers slightly. The feeling is incredibly relaxing, more so than even the previous massage. He smiles softly at the fact that the pain has at least become bearable for now. “Thanks for looking after me…”
“Always,” The pad of your thumb brushes lightly against his cheekbone as you move to tuck a stand of hair behind his ear, knocked loose by him pulling on the hand towel that now laid crumpled on the floor.
Spencer’s eyes flicker slightly. The movement of your fingers across his cheeks is soothing, but also makes him feel something else entirely. It’s hard to describe.
He can’t deny the sensation that rises up from his stomach at these small gestures of affection. A part of him is enjoying it more than is probably okay, given the situation and how tired he is. All it amounts to are butterflies, but that’s enough to make his cheeks flush slightly. “you should take a nap Spencer,”
“mhm…” He nods in agreement. “but can I ask you a small favour first…?”
You mirror his nod with one of your own, your fingers returning to scratching gentle lines against his scalp. “Of course you can,”
There’s a small moment of silence before he speaks again, his eyes flickering between you and the ceiling.
“can you stay with me?”
His question is more of a request, and you swear that you melt from the innocent pleading in his tone.
With you around it’s almost like he doesn’t notice the pain at all. When he closes his eyes it feels like the world is completely at peace, like there’s no need to worry about anything else at this moment in time.
“…please…?” the last word is almost a whisper.
You don’t hesitate in your answer, giving him a soft smile. “of course i will..”
You let out a small breath of air alongside your words, your eyes entranced with the relaxed expression on Spencer’s face, mixed with relief at your willingness to spend a few more hours with him.
Spencer feels a small smile form on his lips as you respond. His hands raise slightly and clutch at your thighs, gently gripping at them almost compulsively.
Now that he knows you’ll be sticking around for a while, all he wants to do is fall asleep in your company.

literally can't stop thing about highschoolsweetheart!au where darling is 24/7 clinging onto a slightly annoyed/frustrated könig's arm, autistically chatting his ear off about random things like cute cat videos that she saw, dinosaurs or art, gushing about how much she loves him, how utterly handsome he's looking and that they're absolutely meant to be!! 🥺 always nuzzling him and pressing sweet kisses to his face.
until... maybe he snaps and shuts her up :// not in a nice way. maybe i'm projecting here, but i've been silenced before and it did nasty things to me. (bit of advice for unknowing peeps, don't make autistic people stop rambling, if you can help it. let them down gently if you must 💌)
back to our sheep... she suddenly shuts in. doesn't chat as much as before, slowly sticking to only utilitarian stuff. avoids his gaze oftenly, gradually starting to keep her distance, stops initiating affectionate things. she still absolutely adores him, but she's hurt, heart constricting in her chest. thinks she's doing him a service by listening to his 'request' at shutting the hell up, thinking she's making him happier. she's still itching to babble, making an active effort at stoping herself from going back to her rambling habits.
how would könig feel? react?
imagine what would it be like, if after some time of this distance, at a social gathering or something, he sees a man approaching her. another MAN!! how is this possible?? and he's... he's asking her about things? looking interested in her talk, eyeing her up and down??
would you do me the honour of tormenting this poor man for me? :33
Her ramblings were cute at first, then they started to go in one ear and out the other. König has a budding tinnitus from work and only wants to rest, but she skitters to him like a lovesick cat, climbs into his lap, and starts to talk his ear off about attachment styles and some pop psychology.
The enthusiasm in her eyes is what bothers him the most – he’s hit with envy, bright hot and red, because he has no time for intellectual interests these days. There's nothing but gun oil and gym to keep him busy. He was supposed to become either a philosopher or a fighter, but since they said philosophers can’t get pussy, he chose the other option (and still got little to no pussy), sad wanker as he was back then.
He either doesn’t know what the hell she is talking about or, he would want to discuss with her about the subjects she’s into, so much in fact that it would soon become an autistic competition of its own. But the deeply ingrained memory of being called a scrawny nerd is keeping his mouth shut even now, when he’s approaching his mid-thirties.
So he tells her she should read an actual book about the subject and stop filling her head with nonsense layman theories.
It hurts; it fucking burns, the mute, helpless stare she shoots at him. She scoots away, sorely upset, and won’t come back to him before the evening fall.
There's no cute noises and kisses peppered all over his face, no dangling from his neck and prattling away about the differences between C. S. Lewis and Tolkien; no videos where a cat tries to fish the last pringles with its paw or memes that remind her of him. There's just a broken girl and a knife in his heart, but he’s too ashamed and proud to apologize.
And so she comes back to him when he won't go to her, the deep yearning always overthrowing her pride. It feeds his self loath by gallons: she's better than him, always has been.
She hugs his middle when they lie down to sleep, forehead pressed against his upper back. She’s too small to reach the back of his neck, but she won’t wriggle upwards like an adorable little worm to place a kiss there like she used to. Just falls asleep with a sigh, holding him tight.
His sleep arrives only after hours have passed, and the knife inside his heart has finally done its duty and euthanized the whole organ.
They never talk about it: but she prattles far less nonsense to him now. He nearly breaks the silence one day and asks her about the Myers Pigs test or whatever it was called, see if she would crack open from her shell and laugh. He could coax her to tell him what her newest interest is nowadays, what makes her eyes bright and shiny when he’s away. But he’s too fucking ashamed, too goddamm proud to tell her that she’s annoyingly cute when she talks so much and that he fucking loves her for that. That she’s the silliest girl he’s ever met and if he had a hat, he would take it off every time she wanted to share another monologue.
If he had the balls, he would ask if she had all this madness inside her when they were kids but never had the courage to spill it out… If he's the only person she has allowed to see this side of her without fear.
...
He returns to the party after having a smoke – a bad habit everytime he knows he's about to down a few beers – only to see she’s engaged in a heated conversation with some other guy.
Or, the guy is asking questions, while his girl is about to burst out of her dress from the eagerness to tell him everything about some new hyperfixation of hers. Something she hasn’t really shared with him; not anymore...
The knife is still in his heart, it seems, because it twists. Violently.
He looks for a weapon to defend himself: an empty beer bottle, a knife on the table, an untended umbrella by the door; his fists, ungloved. It’s just a routine check, a simple habit that was hammered in his system years ago, and of course this is not the time or the place for violence. He just… fantasizes about stabbing that guy in the liver with some blunt cutlery, pounding his ribs to pieces until his knuckles bleed with jealousy. He even fantasizes her screams when she sees what kind of a man he really is: a weak wanker who turned into a pitiful beast of a man.
These flashes take only a second or two, then he squares his shoulders and goes to get his girl back.
“How about we dance,” he offers his hand to her, palm up like the other guy was made of air – or not even that.
Her eyes light up with surprise, pure, undiluted hope, her interest in her chat companion now completely gone.
“You... You want to dance?”
His lips compress into a thin line, his nostrils flaring from the need to either claim her right on this floor or turn and beat the competing dick beside him into a pulp.
Then her hand finds his, her soft little smile pulls him back, her eyes now shining to him and only him.
It’s a slow one, the song, and he only notices it when she lifts her hands and cups the back of his neck. Tingles shoot down his spine and send a curious little twitch down his dick – even his testes pull up a notch. They’ve fucked a thousand times, and still, she has this effect on him... All she needs to do is smile and touch his neck, and his body answers; he’s hers.
“Does this mean you like me…?” She asks with a playful smile when his hands come to naturally claim her waist.
“...What?”
“You saw me with that guy and came to whisk me away.”
He tries to avoid her stare, fakes to steal a glimpse at the other pairs dancing, but it’s challenging when she looks at him like… like that.
“He was drooling all over you back there,” he mutters.
“...Oh? So you came to save me?”
“You have difficulty saying no.”
She's relaxed, while he's stiff, the adrenaline leaving him slowly and with a rising boner. It doesn't help that she's drawing little circles on his skin, right there where it tickles and sends more pulls down his cock.
He tries to breathe deep and slow, but it doesn’t really work much. There are times when he gets a hard-on from her playing with his hair or brushing a set of fingertips across his nipple, and then there are times when he really wishes she wouldn’t do shit like this. Not when they’re at a party and he almost had a temper tantrum in front of everyone.
“König… You never dance,” she says with a weighted stare. He answers it with a heavy glare of his own, eyes that should tell her enough about his true feelings for her.
There’s a thin line between love and hate, but never has he felt this undeniable truth as acutely as he has with her...
“If you don’t stop with the tickling I’m going to have to take you upstairs for a fuck.”
Her tiny little fingers stop immediately, but her eyes shine brighter than ever before. From shock, love, or awe, who knows. Then she picks up that annoying habit again, a bit too keenly to convey any kind of actual fear.
“You’re begging for it, aren’t you...?” He comments with genuine contempt.
“...Yes?” She answers with a breath of a smile, pure love in her stare.
He grunts as if tired, then scoops her up, right there on the dance floor and takes her upstairs when everyone can see.
“You like me. Admit it,” she babbles when he carries her inside some guest bedroom and kicks the door shut, with her snug and smiling in his arms.
“Yes, yes. You can tell me all about everything when I’m done with you.”
“All about everything?” She giggles as he throws her on the bed and starts to take off his shirt. Her eyes shoot to his pecs, then to his fingers when he unzips his pants. There's no lie, no deceit in that stare, just adoration and want.
“First you have to be quiet. Think you can manage that?”
She opens her pink little mouth, then shuts it, starts to nod like a broken doll.
When he eventually slides in, the poor doll whimpers, just like he thought.
"Hush," he gruffs, but doesn't cover her mouth.
He can have a little taste, a sip, a treat... Because the knife in his heart stops rattling only when he makes love to her – he does that often, even if he calls it 'fucking' in his mind.

Fluffy February (Catching Up) #20: Partners
SWTOR
Rating: PGish
Time: KotFE
Pairing: Theron Shan/Eva Corolastor
Words: 875
~~
“Hey, Spike.”  Eva’s voice crackled over the comm.  She suspected the shadow had been him, but she had to confirm it.
Using the “Spy Guy” nickname from the Holochat would have been a bit obvious; using Bowie’s alternative was a better plan.
 “What’s new, darling?”
So was using a far, far less obvious nom de guerre than “EC” (which strangely still worked in a remarkable number of places).
At the word “darling,” Eva let the corner of her lip pull up slightly but no more.  They were on a job, and Theron had just confirmed it was him, far up and away.  She refocused her attention on the safe that the old omnitool was cracking, one binary digit at a time.  “Doing a little bit of shopping.  Waiting for a store to open up.  Think the owner is on a caf break.”
“At this time of the night, you would think.”  A shift of high-tech stealth fabric, the filaments scraping on duracrete. “I was just going for a run.  Never have time anymore, what with work being as it is.”
“Don’t tell me I’m not getting your heart-rate up enough for that high-intensity thing you do…” Eva taunted him.
“You aren’t around all the time –”
“I could be if you –”
Just then the omnitool sang its note of completion and unlatched itself from the safe door.
“Should I take it that you’re buying something nice and expensive?”
Eva opened the safe door, carefully, and used one of Theron’s gadgets to scan for surveillance, weight sensors, and laser deployments within the lead-lined safe. “We’ll see in a minute,” she muttered under her breath.  “Gotta do some viewport shopping.”
Theron cut the comm, giving her the silence she needed to do the checks properly.
Anyone who sliced their comms or intercepted their signal would assume they were just romantic partners.
Not partners in crime.
Part the business of Very Awful Things (VAT), LLC, included corporate espionage and theft of various data and prototypes.  Theron was looking for Akaavi and Risha, the other proprietors…but since they had been good smugglers who disappeared, the LLC name had been disused since the last job they’d done (a little moonlighting thing while running something for Marr, after Ziost, before Eternal Fleet).  No tax filings, no indication of the disposition of the owners.
Maybe when Eva filed taxes this year, that would perk Risha’s attention.
Until then, Eva was going to use VAT as a contractor for Odessen’s less than benevolent business.  Although Theron had indicated he was less enthusiastic about the very not nice things VAT did, corporations weren’t people, and the acquisition of tech for the Alliance would be for the great good of the galaxy.
When Eva had asked him about payment as a subcontractor for VAT, LLC, he’d just grunted.  She was sure she’d be able to compensate him for his time.
The checks finished, all green.  Eva carefully extended her left hand ---
And nothing happened.
She carefully grasped the device, shaped like a dodecahedron (“a 20-point word!” crowed Corso, in her mind).  She lifted its base off the floor of the safe and paused.  Waited.  Nothing.
She withdrew her hand, not too slow.  Not too fast.
Eva’s ears rang in the silence, a sign of too many high-octane adventures.  Her eyes dropped to look at what she had retrieved.  It matched the schematics and the surveillance holos that Theron had acquired.  She gave it a slight lift.  Weight was right – the same as Dr. O’s flimsi-weight.
Even through the tinnitus, Eva could hear something click or move outside of the room.  Could have been the building settling.  Could have been the heat turning on.  Didn’t matter.  She had to go.
Eva shoveled the device into the specially designed interior pocket of her catsuit, off to the side, right where a shoulder holster would rest if she was carrying that day.  It slotted in neatly, and then Eva was out the window.
She planted her left hand on the outside of the transparisteel window and, using the activated webbing, swung herself around the window sill.  The second that she felt her feet secure to the side of the building (right hand unknown), Eva pushed off and the window slid shut.  With a gesture, the locks reactivated, as if she’d never been there.
“Ready to go home?”
Eva’s head tilted up toward the voice.
As planned, Theron waited for her exit, perched just below the window ledge, the webbing on his stealth suit activated as well.  He’d covered her with his sniper rifle from the building across the street, and as extraction grew near, he’d migrated to their departure point.
“Thanks for picking me up.  We going to my place?” she asked as she raised her right hand toward him.
Theron reached beyond the hand to grab at her elbow and hauled her up the side of the building.  “It’s the place with the food.”
With ease, Theron quickly climbed up and over the ledge, turning to grasp Eva’s left forearm and bring her up the rest of the way, her feet touching down on the roof neatly into front of his own.
“Hey.”
“Hey.”
Anyone listening in could guess how they greeted each other.

Just had to spend 330€, most of the money I have left for this month, to get new noise cancelling headphones. Definitely could have done without that, but they were 70€ off for a limited time. My old ones were mid at best (cost 100€), the noise cancelling not very good, and I needed to put music with the ANC on because the noise they made worsened my chronic tinnitus. The leather is coming off the ear things too. I'll keep using them inside as regular headphones, avoid any waste
At least with that price they should last longer and be better since they're Bose. And there was a pretty blue one too. Moonstone Blue. I'm really annoyed I had to get it from Amazon, instead of the store I wanted to go with, because the last three orders I made, of manga, were all opened clearly enough to get the stuff out by someone who seemed a bit too curious during the delivery process, maybe hoping for a phone, tablet or video game

‘The supposition is perfectly reasonable,’ said I: ‘there is no reason it should not work; save that, –’
‘Save that the Nirnroot,’ said Tara, ‘has evaded knowledge for a thousand years. That it glows whilst alive, means nothing, –’
‘That is the sort of attitude,’ said I, – quite undeterred, put the leaf in my mortar, – ‘that has ignored things for a thousand years.’
I detached the roots from it; shook it a bit; crushed it a bit; and wondered at last if there was anything which might be done to stop the damnable ringing, which Sinderion after all had warned me about. – ‘I shan’t be deterred by that,’ I had told him. – ‘Could you speak up?’ he had replied: ‘I cannot hear you over the tinnitus.’ – Leastways it would not stop: and to my left, a poor scholar gave up on his own work, and departed. I mashed the thing a little more; and invited Tara to prepare the milk-thistle.
‘There are much easier ways,’ said Tara, whose skirt-hems were still damp with lake-water, ‘to make a potion of light.’
‘Oh!’ said I: ‘I do not believe the Arcane University has ever done something easily, which might be done more interestingly.’
‘No,’ said Tara, – mashed the thistle with good-humoured resignation: ‘no, we haven’t.’
The materials prepared, I got a flask of water on the boil; set up our calcinator; and began to hum, a vain reattempt to drown out the ringing. – Absently nibbled a bit of milk thistle: was most startled when the whole room lit up. – All was in place: we had only to boil the thing, and then test it.
‘Anyway,’ said Tara at length: ‘if you and Sinderion keep pulling up nirnroots, we shall have none left by the end of the era.’
‘That is a long way off,’ said I, ‘we are hardly four hundred years into it. Oh! there’ll be droves of them somewhere we can’t get to them. – Is that nirnroot charred enough yet? It is still ringing.’
‘Only very faintly,’ said she: ‘it must be your ears;’ but she passed it over regardless; along with the thistle-pulp. I became most delighted by it even before we had finished: for the ingredients were perfectly prepared; and Sinderion and I being pioneers in nirnroot experimentation, we must take the utmost care over it.
‘Well!’ said I: ‘you do the honour of the thistle; and then I shall, –’
The milk-thistle is so-named, because its pulp is white: and when put into a potion, it so resembles milk, that one is fooled until one tastes it, and gets all the sentiment of having consumed a liquified hedgerow. The water became cloudy, but had no bits in it: we had done well so far.
‘The honour of the nirnroot,’ said Tara, ‘is all yours:’ and quite to my consternation, she took two steps back.
‘You will want to watch this,’ said I: ‘whatever happens, it will be novel.’
‘That is one way,’ said Tara, ‘of describing all of your experiments.’
I dismissed the barb; drew myself up; and already imagining the quill in my hand, to write up my tribulations and victories, I collected up the nirnroot from the calcinator, and poured it into our funnel. At once the water became not dirtied, but a wonderful glowing sort of dark green, – began to fizz, – I took out the funnel, and waited in triumphant anticipation.
The mixture settled for a moment; but quite as if to spite me, when I had just leaned over, redoubled its fizzing, and without warning shot up from the flask, and in a bright pillar almost to the ceiling. Tara, who would later suggest the addition of buckets to the Lustratorium, rushed forwards by instinct, and caught enough of it on her robes, that she could see them a little in the dark for ever afterwards. There had not been very much water in the flask; yet infinities of it poured out, and faintly ringing all the while; and when it had done, I was left to look in dismay over a table quite drenched, and an afternoon of ingredients spent in disaster.
‘If you say: I told you so, –’ said I at last, –
‘Well,’ said Tara, ‘I did say that I did not believe it would work. If you had meant to create a potion of levitation, perhaps, – but light, –’
‘Did you see that!’ I cried: ‘we illuminated the whole room!’
‘And so might we have done,’ said Tara wringing out her robes, ‘with a potted nirnroot on the corner of the desk.’
I opened my mouth to disagree; but could say only something about utilitarianism and novelty; and becoming glad that if there was one thing that might be done easily and without exciting novelty, it was cleaning, – went laughing for the towels.

Why Get a Tinnitus Assessment?
If you have ringing in the ears (tinnitus) it’s important to get an assessment. This will be done by an audiologist and usually includes a hearing test.
The good news is that tinnitus is very treatable. There are many different approaches and most people find their tinnitus disappears within 12-24 months of starting treatment.
Causes
Although tinnitus assessment perth is usually associated with hearing loss, there are many other health conditions that can trigger it. Some of these include blood vessel disorders, such as atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, and kinked or malformed vessels; thyroid problems; and migraines and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Other factors that can affect tinnitus are noise exposure, stress, and sleep disturbances.
Tumblr media
Some people who have tinnitus say it sounds like ringing, buzzing, roaring, whistling or hissing in the ears. This sound is only heard by the person who has it and can be continuous or intermittent. It can also vary in pitch and tone.
A doctor or audiologist can diagnose tinnitus by doing a physical examination and checking your ears. He or she may also refer you to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist for further tests. If the tinnitus is caused by an underlying health condition, treatment of that disease should help your tinnitus.
Diagnosis
In most cases, tinnitus is caused by an underlying hearing loss. It can appear as ringing, buzzing, humming, or whooshing noises that occur in one or both ears and often impact quality of life.
The first step in diagnosing tinnitus is to see your primary care doctor for a basic exam. They’ll examine your ear canals to check for earwax or fluid, and ask about any medications you’re taking (tinnitus is sometimes a side effect of certain drugs).
If your tinnitus is persistent, an otolaryngologist or audiologist can evaluate it using hearing and tinnitus tests. These can include tympanometry, which measures sound waves reflected by your ear drum, and audiometry to determine how much hearing loss you have. Your doctor may also order neuroimaging, such as an MRI or CT scan, to look for any structural problems in your head and neck that could be the cause of your tinnitus. They might also use electronystagmography, a test that assesses balance and movement.
Treatment
If the ringing in your ears is caused by an underlying condition, such as high blood pressure or a jaw problem, treating the problem may help with your tinnitus. Your GP will check your ears, and may refer you to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist for hearing tests.
Most tinnitus is subjective, meaning that only you can hear it. In some cases, such as pulsatile tinnitus, which sounds like your heartbeat, the sound can be heard by others through a stethoscope or other device.
Treatments include counseling, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, which teaches you to change your reaction to your tinnitus and helps you learn coping techniques. Masking devices play a quiet background noise to make your tinnitus less noticeable. Other treatments include relaxation and stress management. Newer treatments use transcranial magnetic stimulation to reduce neural pathways that are involved in perception of tinnitus. These treatments are usually short-term and work best when combined with counseling.
Follow-up
For some hearing loss in australia, a definite cause of the tinnitus will never be found. This is particularly true for those who suffer from tinnitus associated with a neurological condition such as tinnitus that follows exposure to excessive noise or neurological tinnitus, which may result from a stroke, tumour, head trauma or other conditions.
These patients often find that their tinnitus can be managed in other ways, including using cognitive-behavioural therapy to learn to ignore the tinnitus. Other strategies include avoiding loud noises, taking precautions in the workplace and limiting alcohol, caffeine and nicotine intake.
This scoping review suggests that many help-seekers are dissatisfied with the quality of their healthcare experience, particularly at the initial stages of seeking care. However, satisfaction ratings appear to increase once the patient accesses specialised tinnitus clinics. It would be very helpful if healthcare providers could offer information about and/or refer patients to these services in the initial consultations. This would facilitate patients’ access to the tinnitus treatments that are most effective for them.

Hearing Near Me - A Directory of Audiologists and Hearing Instrument Specialists
Hearing Near Me is a comprehensive, online directory of audiologists and hearing instrument specialists across the United States. It allows consumers to search for a nearby clinic, learn about different types of hearing aids and read verified reviews from past clients.
The site also provides information on various ear conditions, like tinnitus and dizziness. It’s a good resource for anyone who is concerned about their own or a loved one’s hearing.
A hearing loss can range from mild, in which a person misses certain high-pitched sounds, to severe deafness that makes it impossible to hear at all. Sudden hearing loss is a medical emergency that should be treated as such. It can occur all at once or over the course of a few days and should be checked immediately by a doctor.
People with hearing loss are more likely to experience depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions, and they often face social isolation because it’s difficult to have conversations with others. It’s important to let people know if you’re having trouble hearing them and to try to find ways to communicate that work for both of you, such as speaking clearly and making eye contact.
There are several things you can do to help manage your hearing loss, including dietary changes and exercise, as well as using assistive devices, such as hearing aids. Hearing aids make sounds louder and can help you follow a conversation when someone is talking to you. They can be fitted at a hearing center or by your family doctor. If you have a severe or profound loss of hearing, a cochlear implant may be an option for you.
The National Institute on Aging explains that sound waves enter the ear through the auditory canal, hit the eardrum, and cause it to vibrate. The vibrations pass to three bones in the middle ear called the ossicles, which amplify them. The ossicles then transmit the sound to the inner ear, where tiny hair-like cells pick up the vibrations and turn them into signals that are recognized as sounds by your brain.
The site Healthy Hearing explains that it’s important to get your hearing tested regularly, and especially as you age. Seeing an audiologist can give you a more accurate assessment of your hearing and determine what needs to be done to correct it. Your family doctor or otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat surgeon) can refer you to an audiologist if needed. You can also check your hearing for free on the internet or by downloading a smartphone app. The app will give you your Hearing Number, which is a measure of your overall hearing ability. It is recommended to use a device in both ears.

Tinnitus is a disorder that causes you to hear sounds that aren't coming from somewhere else. What causes tinnitus in the first place?
Although the actual cause of tinnitus is uncertain, the following are the most prevalent causes:• Loss of hearing • Being exposed to loud noises • Trauma to the head • Adverse effects of medications • Hypertension (high or low blood pressure) • The ear canal is clogged with wax. • A accumulation of fluid behind the eardrum • Heart, blood vessel, neck, jaw, or tooth problems.

The infusions work, yay! I still hear beeping in the ear (well, both ears, but I've got a tinnitus in the left ear for years now, so I'm not counting that), but I don't hear my own pulse in my ear anymore! Monday is the third and hopefully last infusion and then we'll see if my hearing is also returning like it should. (honestly, hadn't I done a hearing test I wouldn't have known I went like half deaf in one ear, because thanks to my auditory processing disorder I already misunderstand sooo many things that are said to me lmao.)

Hello Pája my lovely friend! I didn’t pay attention to new releases last month as much as I have in the past, but I did listen to a handful.
I think my fave (other than NCT) was TXT’s comeback. The EP as whole was pretty great but my favorite song by far is Farewell, Neverland. I also really loved Crescendo from Monsta X’s album. Oooh also GOT the Beat’s mini album. It was super musically different and I found it very interesting but it’s definitely not for everyone. Honorable mentions to SF9’s comeback and Primrose’s debut!
Ohohoh! I almost forgot that Onewe released an English album! I haven’t listened to it yet but I’m sure it’s great because they’re a super talented band!
Rae Rae Rae!! Hello and how have you been? ^^
Thank you for all your recommendations, I'll give them a listen right now!
💬TXT's TEMPTATION:
I like the underlying beat in Devil by the Window. Wow what is that ending eheh, I didn't expect that. And now for something completely dfferent with Sugar Rush Ride ahah. Oh that little Billie Eilish moment. Happy Fools where have I heard that intro before UGH. Wow that beat is so familiar. I like the lady singing. Tinnitus, I feel like I've heard it already ahah. Maybe it's TXT's signiture sound. (hold on let me check, I def have other TXT songs in my playlists....huh, nevermind then :D ). Neverland definitely the best track of the album for me. I feel like I would like it even more if their voices would sound, like, a little bit less accentuated? That's not the word.... I feel like some parts are kinda strained, I don't know how to put it lol.
👾 MonstaX's REASON:
Do we even need to talk about Beautiful Liar, I am so in love witih that song. Daydream has such an interesting sound. Like a depressed circus. What is Crescendooooo, it's a bit of everything oh my gosh. Wait did they say let's get sexy ifusskjdf. The way it ended so abruptlly. Lone Ranger sounding kind of basic so far. Feels like a filler song. Deny a vocalist song I see I see. Okay no we still got the rap as well but IT FITS THE SONG, vocals and rap can COEXIST in balance in one song, NCT please try harder. Oh I like It's alright. The piano <3 Hhhh I like it! It's like relaxed. Sigh, should I listen to more of MonstaX? Maybe I should pay more attention to them.
💃💃 GOT the beat's STAMP ON IT:
I actually dread this one, I've heard the two title tracks (?) they performed during SM's concert and my ears bled :// (Also I thought they're called Girls on Top and not GOT the beat eheh.) But! I'll give it a try. Here goes. Sigh. It's like... we have all these beautiful extremely capable voices and we make them shout all at once. Also why does everything have to sound like NCT. Wait why does Alter Ego have a bit from 2 Baddies???? Mark's iconic line. (Like not the lyrics I guess but the delivery is exactly the same??) I don't know I guess I'm kinda tired of the "bad bitches, touch me and die, loser" concept. If I had to pick one song that didn't make think about skipping it within first seconds, it'd be MALA cause we can hear some actual vocals in it and also I kinda like the tone shift in the chorus.
9️⃣ SF9's THE PIECE OF 9:
At this point everything starts sounding the same to me T_T Nothing really stuck with me with thie album, sorry :(((( Maybe Fighter. And Stay with me.
💮 Primrose's RED MOON:
I haven't heard about Primrose before, let's go. Always love a good intro. Ooh, here we go with the Neosound again eheh. Okay so it's a girls group. Sounding like GOT the beat but less chaotic. I say it's a standard girls group, well done! ^^
I've already listened to Onewe because I was confused for a moment and thought that Onew released a new album jgdfkg.
Rae, thank you so much!!!!!!!!! I can always rely on you ^-^

Tinnitus Assessment
There is variation in how tinnitus is assessed when people first present. Appropriate information in a timely manner can reduce distress and prevent symptoms from becoming debilitating.
It is important to identify any underlying health issues which may be contributing to the tinnitus. This could include head trauma or surgery, dental issues and TMJ dysfunction.
Identifying the Symptoms
If you have ringing, buzzing, roaring or hissing noises in your ears, you should go to your doctor and describe what you are tinnitus assessment. This information is important to the diagnosis of tinnitus. Your doctor will ask questions about your medical history, medications you take and supplements you use, your exposure to loud noise, and other factors that might be related to the tinnitus.
Tumblr media
It is important to identify if the noises are pulsatile (like blood rushing) or constant. Pulsatile tinnitus often indicates a neurological cause and needs immediate evaluation, as it can be life-threatening, such as with a stroke or brain tumor.
Your doctor will also perform a physical examination of the ears and sensitive internal structures, using a handheld magnifying device for inspection. They will assess the degree to which your tinnitus bothers you, and may ask questions about your ability to concentrate, sleep or think clearly. They may also use a questionnaire like the Tinnitus Functional Index and visual analogue scales to assess your symptoms.
Identifying the Causes
Tinnitus can sound like ringing in the ears, buzzing, whistling, chirping, hissing, roaring, or other noises that are inside your head and not caused by anything you can hear. The noise may be constant or it can come and go. It can be in one ear or both ear(s). It can also be a low noise or a high noise or it can be pulsatile (sound that beats a steady rhythm).
Some people have tinnitus with no other symptoms and they can't find an underlying cause for their tinnitus. But if your tinnitus is bothering you a lot, or if it is causing problems with sleep, work, concentration, or social interaction, your doctor might do a physical exam and check your ears. They might order a hearing test or other tests such as a CT scan, an MRI scan, blood vessel studies, or x-rays.
If you are experiencing tinnitus that is associated with the sudden onset of other symptoms, you should be seen by a mental health management team for assessment and treatment to prevent suicide. This should be done as quickly as possible.
Identifying the Co-morbidities
People often report having tinnitus in combination with other health conditions, such as insomnia, concentration difficulties, or depression. If left unaddressed, these symptoms can affect a person’s quality of life and have a direct impact on the way they function.
It is important that healthcare professionals take a detailed medical history to help either rule out or account for comorbidities. These may include thyroid status, vertigo, hearing loss and/or tinnitus, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), and anxiety.
A hearing test (audiological exam) is used to check for underlying issues that can cause tinnitus, such as diabetes, fibromyalgia, allergies, low vitamin levels, hormone changes, and autoimmune disorders like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. The test involves sitting in a sound-proof room wearing earphones and listening to sounds like birds chirping and refrigerators humming. It can also reveal any damage to your ears. Your doctor will also look at your head and neck to see if there are any signs of inflammation or infection.
Developing a Management Plan
When hearing loss in Australia is bothersome or impacts quality of life, people should be offered a range of interventions to improve their management. These are often provided by an interdisciplinary team (e.g., nurse, audiologist, physician, psychologist, therapist, counselor).
Questionnaires are useful tools for quantifying tinnitus symptoms and assessing the impact on a person’s quality of life. However, the committee also agreed that discussing the answers to component questions with people can be more useful than simply presenting the results of their questionnaire scores.
Some of the available tinnitus therapies include biofeedback training, hypnotherapy, myofascial trigger point therapy, and neuromodulation (e.g., TRT). In addition to these modalities, patients may be provided with sound therapies and/or tinnitus maskers. The tinnitus maskers are designed to suppress the tinnitus signal, helping it become less prominent in the background. These techniques are not expected to change the loudness of the tinnitus, but they can significantly reduce its intrusiveness and improve quality of life.
