Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion Álvarez Defends Titles Against Undisputed Junior Middleweight Champion Charlo Saturday, September 30, Headlining SHOWTIME PPV® From T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas

LOS ANGELES – August 16, 2023 – Boxing superstars Canelo Álvarez and Jermell Charlo faced off for the second consecutive day Wednesday, this time at a press conference in Los Angeles before they meet in a historic clash headlining SHOWTIME PPV (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT) on Saturday, September 30 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Canelo Promotions will present the Premier Boxing Champions Pay-Per-View.

After kicking off the fight promotion in New York on Tuesday, the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo and undisputed junior middleweight champion Charlo hit the west coast to preview their showdown that will pit two reigning undisputed champions against each other for the first time in the four-belt era.

“I’m very happy to be involved in big fights like this. I hope that everybody enjoys this fight because it’s going to be a great night for the fans and for everybody who has wanted to see this fight for a long time.

“We’ll see if it’s true that I’ve lost a step. We’ll see. I understand what the people said, and I agree. I didn’t look my best in my last two fights, but I know why, and I’m ready for this fight. We’ll see what happens. We’re going to see something different.

“I always say that outside of the ring, I look like I’m an easy opponent. But when fighters step in the ring with me, it’s completely different. It’s not the same watching me from outside the ring as it is actually being inside the ring with me. I’m a different guy.

“I think both Jermell and Jermall Charlo are great fighters. No disrespect to Jermall. But I think Jermell has had better opposition in his fights. I think he is the better fighter. That’s just what I think.

Finally saw this fight! Super late I know but I just realized my new paramount+ subscription came with showtime boxing. Got it just in time for it the die 🫡 Anyway I'm mostly a hardcore MMA fan who only recently started following boxing, even though I watched a lot of the big fights in the 00's and 10's growing up, but holy shit I like this guy. Again, I'm a boxing white belt, but he fights so ummm ugly? He uses his long body in weird ways that are somehow also brilliant at times? Like his defense is good but he does get hit but he kinda just eats it? Straight face. He smiles sometimes. He's so weird in my opinion but god damn is he ferocious once he starts rolling downhill on you. He kinda reminds me of Nate and Nick Diaz, who also fight ugly and look drunk half the time but then all of a sudden it's the second half of round 2 and their landing 5 piece combinations on you. Obviously their not elite boxers but idk that's the MMA connection I had watching the fight. If Nick or Nate grew up boxing full time and developed real power they probably would fight a lot like Benavidez.

Christy Martin vs Deirdre Gogarty - March 16, 1996

Realized that I've mentioned this fight in multiple posts this week but haven't actually posted the fight proper. And seeing as I'm posting about combat sports history for women's history month, this fight deserves some context seeing as it was "the fight that made women's boxing."

On March 16th, 1996, the biggest boxing star in the world Mike Tyson was set to challenge to regain the heavyweight title after spending multiple years in prison. It was a highly anticipated rematch with Frank Bruno that would go on to sell 1.1 million PPVs.

Don King, Tyson's promoter, had dipped his hand into women's boxing, signing Christy Martin in 1993 off a string of KO victories and her impressive record. He had been putting on the undercards of other big fights going on around the time and was looking to set her up as an attraction. Heading into this fight, she had actually just fought like 3-4 weeks prior making her debut on Showtime.

Deirdre Gogarty was an Irish woman who came to the US to pursue a boxing career after women's boxing was banned in her home country. As a result, she kind of just took fights where she could get them. This fight between her and Martin actually came together on 10 days notice. It also hurt Gogarty that Martin came in with a weight advantage.

But the two would meet that night and completely steal the show. The 6 round affair would launch Christy Martin into heights previously never seen for a woman in boxing. She landed the cover of Sports Illustrated a month later.

Omg ok so current storylines Dean is most definitely digging the death riders storyline but also wondering what Mox is doing and how is it gonna end.

He and Sam are both bummed that Private Party lost the tag belts already to Hurt Syndicate and they wanted to see them with the belts longer and wished they had more chances to defend them.

They both miss the conglomeration, they're wondering when Eddie Kingston will be cleared to come back to set Chris Jericho on fire and to approach Mox on the whole situation with the death riders.

To me Sam's fav is definitely Kenny, he was rooting for him during his recovery and so excited for Kenny's return during Wrestle Dynasty.

He's definitely looking forward to him and Will Ospreay teaming up for the next PPV.

For the women's division he is heavily invested in Toni and Mariah's story but also wishes wrestlers like Shida, Queen Aminata and others got more screen time cause let's face it, women's division doesn't get enough screen time or promos.

Now Sam has noticed how much Dean is heavily invested in Hangman's storyline. He's been there from the feud with Mox up to the feud with Swerve and is a huge fan of the Texas Death Matches. (He's always rock hard and Sam ends up blowing him during the matches or Dean ends up fucking him rough and nasty)

Sam is of course thinks it's part of Dean's obsession(fetish) with cowboys until Sam's going through old BTE's and sees a button up that hanger has and it looks suspiciously identical to the one Dean gifted him a couple of years ago.

Sam pauses the video and reverse image searches the shirt and realizes it's actually Adam Pages shirt from an auction he did a while back.

Cue jealous sam

Accusations of obsession start getting thrown around and of course Sam tells him he's got issues and it's honestly funny that the brotherwife is calling Dean out on all this.

Eventually it comes out, that Dean met him during his ROH run, it was during the time when Sam was supposedly dead and in the cage.

He didn't know that Sam was topside hunting with their estranged grandfather and cousins.

Hang- Adam reminded him so much of Sammy, of a Sammy that wasn't weighed down with everything that had gone wrong in their lives, a Sammy that didn't die due to Dean's failures.

Sam gets it, he understands what Dean was going through. He was grieving and he found a temporary Sam.

Who hasn't done that. (Sam thinks back to ruby and Amelia)

It doesn't hit Sam until later that Dean did all this while he was with Lisa, he don't have the energy to question that when things were supposed to be good with Lisa lol

Jarrett Hurd vs Erislandy Lara: April 7, 2018

Context - ProBox TV is a YouTube channel for boxing. They have talk shows, post news, and highlights but the thing that makes them unique is that they host fights. And not just random fights. While the hole PBC left when Showtime pulled out of boxing is slowly being filled, there were a lot of fighters in the umbrella PBC promotion that kind of just fell by the wayside. Former world champions that did not get picked up and did not have big time promoters behind them to help them build or rebuild their careers. And that's where ProBox shines as a boxing platform. They get legit world class fighters on the rebuild and give them an opportunity to get back to the world level, or in some cases breakout. If you watched the Crawford PPV, you might have seen David Morrell face off with a guy named Radivoje Kalajdzic. Kalajdzic is a ProBox vet who took out former world champion Sullivan Barrera earlier this year, lining him up for that fight. Their most successful rebuild story? Angelo Leo just had a KO of the Year contender to take a world championship up at featherweight. Another successful ProBox rebuild project. Cool stuff.

All that to say, if there's anywhere for a guy like Jarrett Hurd (23-5, 17 KOs) to go, it's ProBox. Hurd was once the super welterweight world champion and seemed to be on course to becoming a proper star in the sport. He was exciting, had big wins, and was knocking folks out. Then he got cracked. J-Rock dropped him en route to a decision loss and then he would lose two his next three. All of a sudden, Hurd is 2-3 in his last 5 after looking damn near unshakeable. So he's looking to rebuild his career up at middleweight. He is set to face off against another former super welterweight world champion on the rebuild path, Jeison Rosario (24-4-1).

Hurd and Rosario will fight on the ProBox TV YouTube channel this Wednesday (Aug 21).
