Many people have a formative book in their life, and while I have many, this would make the list by any metric. My childhood dog's official name according to the Kennel Club was Skinny Legs and All, and while we called her Morgan, the name still intrigued me. When I found this on the shelf as a kid who read voraciously, I never stopped to consider whether it was for me, or even what it's about. It's especially relevant now, much of it discussing tensions in the Middle East, but I certainly didn't understand it then. Its a really fascinating book, and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in a book that's a bit weird.
