"...Dean?"

"What's up?"

The look on Sam's face tells him.

"No."

"We need to talk about it."

"We really don't."

"Dean- we had sex!"

"I didn't know it was you!" A defensive burst, guilt, eyes that flash over to, and then lock solidly away from, Sam.

"I know! I know." A little softer now, tempering down the initial outburst, the strength of discomfort. "I didn't either. But. It was good, wasn't it?"

"Sam." Pleading. "Let's just forget it, okay? Neither of us knew and its nobody's fault so let's just not, not talk about it, okay?"

He meets Sam's eyes then, and he's begging, just begging for Sam to agree. To say "okay" and then let that be it, the big Thing that they don't talk about that let's them go back to normal, back to the way they were when it (if there even was an "it" which there won't be if Dean has any control over it) was small enough to swallowed down and hidden.

"Okay?" He prompts again.

"But I can remember." Sam says. "I remember how it felt. What I wanted."

Sam steps just a little bit closer, and Dean feels the bottom of his stomach drop.

"I thought it was good. And I still do. Even now."

Sam's voice is so quiet now, every word feeling heavy, dreading Dean's rejection but still pressing forward, getting it all out. Because it's important.

"I enjoyed it. I enjoy the memory of it."

He's all up in Dean's space now, hardly any air between them. He wants to reach out and grab him, pull him close and prove it, but he waits for Dean. Only reaching out a finger to tug gently on his belt loop.

"I don't want to forget."

Having Sam be the way he was in It's A Terrible Life was wild. Like, he was right, but can you imagine propositioning your casual coworker to abandon their life and job to sleep out of motel rooms with you, because you've been having dreams about him and now you know that ghosts are real?

A man you have barely ever talked to, by the way. But now you're saying come live hand to mouth with me, in each other's back pockets, "details" like food and money don't mean anything to me because I'm just that drawn to you and I'm ready to upend my whole worldview and identity because of it?
