Moominvalley Snufkin with pointy cat ears and a fluffy cat tail

I painted and edited these official scenes from Moominvalley (2019) to make it look like Snufkin has cat ears and a cat tail. I did my best to make the ears and tail look like they came from the show, but I’d like to hear any critiques on how I can improve my painting skills.

Drew one of the Moomins chapter art in Moominsummer Madness because I love that book and this chapter. I also actually drew the rest of the chapter in comic form after drawing this so when I crop the photos of those I’ll probably upload them since I did the entire chapter.

OK I must ask. Does that little chuckroast guy from the Dungeon anime actually have a tail or is that just how some people draw him ??

in Dungeon Meshi he's a race called a "half-foot", which is the equivalent to a dnd Halfling or a tolkein Hobbit. It's fairly common for people to depict Halflings and Hobbits with more animalistic traits, like mouse-like ears & feet, whiskers, and a tail. I'm really fond of these types of designs (I've never been into moomin but I know people do this for snufkin too), but personally I dislike it when it comes to Dungeon Meshi. The author has put a LOT of thought into her world's inter-racial conflicts, and depicts bigotry and cultural racism in a fairly nuanced way, and I feel like changing the look of one of the races That Much for the aesthetics kind of undermines a lot of her worldbuilding. Half-foots already receive a ton of discrimination so something Having Tails seems like it would be a pretty big deal.

but I'm also not like, the fandom police, and not everyone is going to go out of their way to invest themselves in the abundance of bonus worldbuilding content (especially anime-onlies who might not even know it exists). and that's fine! the designs are appealing and people draw them for a reason. I just personally don't like it in this circumstance.

What’s up with the humans in Moominvalley?? (2019) Like are they actually human, or just humanoid? Because I’ve seen people draw Snufkin and sometimes Little My with a tail. I mean Mymble seems to be a human rabbit mix because of how many children she has (lol) but seriously there’s only like a handful of humans and whenever they pop up I’m just so confused by their presence

Too-Ticky seems to be human and imma just assume so because 😎👍 but Snufkin and Little My aren’t off the hook because I’ve seen that in a different version of Moominvalley Snufkin has a dad?? (Pfft can’t relate) and isn’t his name like The Joxter? And that he has a tail in that version because if so then does Snufkin in that version have a tail too or not? And if not is that because of Mymble?

I’m not sure either way but I will say I do love seeing Snufkin with a tail, I think it’s adorable and tails are under appreciated in my eyes but thank you for reading this and have a lovely day/night/time!!

HERES ANOTHER LITTLE GUY!!!

I like this tone of green better but I gotta figure out how to draw his face. I did make his hat and ribbon lighter because I imagine that moominmama made him a whole set of coat +hat, and since the hat is always in sunlight it has been lightened. I also forgot but I love that one tumblr person (avrilcircus?) That gives snufkin a tail and claws. And furry ears. So any other fanart will include that.

Moomin rant part 2: Snufkin's tail

Hi again! So something I've seen a lot on here and on other apps is fanart of Snufkin with a tail. Personally, I LOVE IT! One, I think it's just cute. Like, look at this little guy with a little tail! And the artists who draw him with a tail always have such nice art styles (part of why I spend all of my free time looking at fanart is because you're all so freaking talented). I also think it connects him more with how I've seen Mumriks described as cat-like. I'm pretty sure it even says that on the Moomin Wiki page, but don't quote me. It also has a nice tie to All Small Beasts Should Have Bows In Their Tails (or they'll find themselves locked in Hemulen jails). The song is most closely associated with Snufkin and Little My, which SIBLINGS! But it could also be a tie to Joxter. Maybe it was a song that they learned before Joxter left/Snufkin was turned into Moses. Also sad side note, maybe if there is an invisible arc, Snufkin's tail is constantly invisible. It's sad, but also kind of funny because I imagine everyone being like "you have a tail?!" Anyway, thanks for reading my rant! These funky little Finnish creatures are the sole thing in my brain.
