Hmm good question, if I'm being honest I never intentionally tried to get my art seen by a large audience, really. I just created what I thought was fun and slightly therapeutic, and people seemed to like that. I've honestly no idea how I've managed to gain so many followers. Not to mention I haven't used tumblr in years up until recently again so I'm not sure how exactly to get your art out there other than reblogs n such. I started my @luckyclovernb account on twitter, and it just took time for me to gain a healthy following. Plus I won't deny, I think I was at an advantage since I joined the SDJ fandom early on. So no matter your skill level, sometimes it's just blind luck. Especially considering the algorithms. From my experience if you create art you enjoy and love then the ones who share that passion will find you. But, if you just want that sweet online validation (/pos) then I'd say knowing your audience is a pretty good place to start. If you solely want to cater to people's tastes, you can keep a close eye on trends and popular content/genres. This is subjective, however, so it'd definitely help if you made something you also enjoyed.
